BLUF: Portions are large, food is good, waitress nice. 70 minute wait for dinner is unsat. I have been to Chick's restaurant on several occasions and my previous experience was good enough to make the trip from the 30 ish minute trip from ennis MT. None of the previous trips was when the restaurant "busy". We arrived at 7pm, place had 3 clean empty tables out of 10 tables (normally 11, but they had moved two tables together for a large group of ten), the other occupied tables were couples. Our order taken fairly quickly and drinks delivered. the restaurant emptied about 7:30. The remaining orders came out slow, but sequenced in the order of the people arrived. We were next up, and then we were skipped twice. We ordered 2 orders of chicken fried steak, a hamburger & chicken strips. The waitress staff kept the drinks filled in between her taking orders and bussing tables. We got our order 70 ish minutes after order. The bill was $70 ish. read more

We stopped into Chicks Restaurant for a "Juicy, melt in your mouth" 16 oz. Ribeye steak. What we all received was the toughest piece of Filet of Sole ever served. The meat was only 1/2 inch thick, maybe 10 oz. extremely tough and full of sinew. My friend's steak still had whip marks on it Hehe. These steaks were not prime Montana grass fed beef. At best, they were Holstein end of life cattle ready for the dogfood factory. In closing, when my friend complained to the owner, she took $5 off of his bill. Remember, the steak was $35 a plate. Went here on Halloween to eat in the dining room. The waitress was made up as a corpse, nice costume. But she openly insulted my wife and I at the table and thought nothing of it. The insult was enough that she should have been fired on the spot. Slovenly service, I have eaten here for years but I'll never set foot in this dump again. We ordered 2 chicken fried steaks with mashed potatoes and gravy, 1 steak dinner. Steak was good, The mashed potatoes and gravy were cold. she warmed up gravy. the chicken fried steaks were like a piece of cardboard, no exaggeration about that. This place just did not look appealing to me the first 5 or 6 times I passed it, so I didn't go in. That was my mistake and loss. Once I finally stopped in for breakfast, I realized that Chick's is a gem. The restaurant is good and the bar is too. Considering it's location and the availability of restaurants in the area, this bar and restaurant is outstanding! I've had several breakfasts, lunches, and dinners at Chick's, as well as having spent a few evenings in the bar. Every time, the service was friendly and the food and drink was good. Came in for a late breakafast and was not disappointed! Had the eggs your way, hashbrowns and toast combo. Everything was done perfectly per my request. The sourdough toast was amazing. Chick's is pretty dang good for being located in a small town like Alder! They have traditional options like fish and chicken, but they also get a little creative with their Sriracha PB&J sandwich! Usually get takeout so I can't say much about their service but they seem friendly! For being a small town, they do get pretty busy, so if you get overwhelmed by crowded places, I wouldn't recommend eating in during summer time. Especially July. read more

They have shuffleboard, pool tables, jenga, and poker machines. Lacks TV screens for watching sports, just two above the bar. People come here to socialize and drink. Decent restaurant attached and some cabins for those seeking accommodations. Photos on the wall of past customers, my aunt sharon and uncle jim, along with aunt pat, adorn the wall of remembrance. Delicious, homemade food in a friendly, down-home atmosphere. Homemade blue cheese dressing -- so good! Awesome sandwiches on perfectly toasted bread. Fresh salad bar with yummy, homemade side options. Perfect fresh brewed ice tea. We visit this area twice yearly and this is our first time eating here. We will certainly be back! Had lunch here after visiting Virginia city, bar in front restaurant behind, roomy clean place with nice staff, had a Rueben with a pass through the salad bar, food was very good, promptly prepared and served, prices reasonable, beer was cold, definitely a locals place but they were welcoming and I felt comfortable there. I would highly recommend stopping here if you are in the area and ordering yourself one. The beer selection is not too bad either. Blue Moon and tap and Shock Top in the bottle. We stopped in after going up the Ruby Valley on a nature viewing drive. It was Fathers Day and Chick's was jamming. We walked in and asked the guy running between tables if we could seat ourselves. He said that if we could find a spot, we could have it. We got menus and water shortly, and were gobsmacked by all the delicious choices that we were faced with. My son and father-in-law got burgers, wife got the shrimp alfredo (on the secret menu), and I got the porkchop sandwich. The food was great. Fresh, crisp veggies for the porkie and good fries. I would have liked a bit of seasoning on the pork chop, but with its size, I can't complain. The chicken-fried steak that we saw on other tables also looked awesome (and huge). read more

This is a hidden gem in the Ruby Valley! Even though it is well known, it's tucked in an RV park behind the bar....but friends had told us about it and the YELP stars made it worth trying. Wow! Tonight the soup and salad bar included Wisconsin Beer Cheese soup! What a wonderfully smooth soup, with the cheese and beer flavors absolutely melding together. We're taking home extra for tomorrow. The chicken-fried steak was H-U-G-E and we shared it and still have leftovers. So glad to find a restaurant of this caliber nearby while we visit friends for the month of February! read more

In the summer, we drove 102 miles from Henry's Lake, Idaho, across the Centennial Valley and Ruby River Road, Montana in our side-by-sides to Chicks where we spent a night in the motel, had drinks and visited with locals in the bar, then enjoyed an outstanding dinner! The place is a Montana treasure! New Year's Eve is spectacular... a band, balloons, party favors, hats, excellent drinks and fabulous food! They had a wide selection of craft beers and all kinds of wines, but the waitress couldn't tell me what vineyards. Love this place! My boyfriends family has been coming here during elk season for years and I finally got to experience it. It's a great sized U shape bar with enough seating and friendly local people to keep you there all night. The bartender Randy was amazing and kept us there till closing time with his games and conversation. The hamburgers and chicken fingers are arguably some of the best ever and I loved the drinks featuring local spirits and brews. Don't forget to add a dollar bill to the ceiling. Great atmosphere, great people, great prices. Can't wait to come back! Almost forgot to add that we stayed at the Chicks "RV Park" aka the parking lot behind the bar with full hookups and cable and it was better than any campground. If I could give zero stars I would...We had been on their calendar for over a year for our wedding. We spoke several times confirming that date and time and location. I spoke with Randy a few weeks before the event asking if we needed to provide cups or ice or anything and he said no, they will provide all of that. Two weeks before the wedding we called again confirming everything. Wedding day rolls around and they are a no show. He told us he didn't have us down, then he checked his calendar and realized he did, then proceeded to hang up on us...twice. Might be an okay place to go in and have a drink, but do not take them on for an event. Thankfully we had amazing people at our wedding who came through. Big thanks to Main Street Market for carrying a huge variety of alcohol! And a shout out to Lost Cabin Bar for having us for shots after the ceremony and graciously letting us take photos in your amazing establishment! Check both of them out in Twin Bridges!
