There was only 1 slice of onion, 1 slice of red pepper and 1 small wedge of a tomato on a whole plate of lettuce. For the price of the meal I expect croutons, shredded cheese and a lot more onions and tomatoes. The baked potato should also have the option to come loaded with cheese and bacon. Aka Mack's last cast Gluten free and dairy light eater. Two different dining experiences same place. "Black tail" is downstairs from Mack's. You can chose the finer dining downstairs Or "Macks"upstairs. They all work for the same business since their shirts are all Mack's. I ordered a bacon cheese burger with no bun. I like cheese too much to give it up completely. I was looking forward to good fried potatoes. As normal I ordered it without a bun. But what I failed to realize is the "seasoned" on the menu meant the the fries were breaded. The burger was nothing special it was seasoned well with salt and the bacon was crispy. I should have asked prior but I rarely run into fries that are breaded. This place is a casual eatery. I can't speak for the steak or the pasta but the burger was average. read more

Do not get salads unless you like soggy wilted lettuce. No homemade dressing. It all comes From a package I saw them Opening and pouring. Stick with a burger as it is passable. They do not seem to keep help. Never seem To see the same staff. Drinks at well made and fairly Priced. Steaks are low quality and cooked in a pan. Not caramelized, not cooked in a hot pan or not as ordered, cut thin, not tasty. Some appetizers are good like the shrimp wontons but hard to find shrimp, pretty much cream cheese. Pretty solid restaurant for a (really) small town in the middle of nowhere. Great wait staff, 2 good steak variations, and some local brewskis. Recommend sitting downstairs (the old morgue) vs upstairs (the old bordello) if you have dinner. Way quieter and less fried bar food smell. Best in town that we experienced. read more

This may be Dillon's best restaurant. I'll need to explore a couple others and dine at Blacktail Station a couple more times before I can say it with confidence, but for now, I can definitely state that it's the best I've been to in Dillon. read more

Really disappointed. The website and reviews sounded so good but $40 for a steak should have been really delicious. And it wasn't. I absolutely don't mind paying that if what I receive is amazing. We asked the waitress to tell the manager our experience but got no response, no stop by the table and no reduction in the bill. My daughters calamari was also not very good (she described it as bing like fish sticks) but shame on us for ordering seafood in Montana. Never being here, you walk in and it takes you straight to the stairs going down or you can take a sharp left, no signs saying anything. Confused we took the sharp left. It was more like a sports bar like atmosphere and were told we could eat upstairs or downstairs. We decided on upstairs. Menu basic and the burger was a really good tasting but not for the JACKSON HOLE PRICES! That being said they had good local craft beer but we only saw our waitress 1x and that's when she took our order. I'm not sure what was going on with the service but it was odd. Great choice as this place has excellent food, reasonable prices, friendly and efficient service and a pleasant atmosphere. Friendly but needs some fixing. Door was not open for minutes after business start time, sushi night was twice the price and below average quality. The Ahi was good but the rice it was on diminished the overall quality. The other pieces were without any moisture and certainly not fresh, maybe even frozen at one time. So dry the pieces wouldn't even stick to the sticky rice. Help is young and needs guidance, I hold the manager/owner accountable as they were no where in sight and clearly these girls had a limited amount of customer service experience. I was one of two tables and service was too slow. Not sure I'll try this place again but as a local I'm hopeful. The ambiance was kinda cool. read more

After living in Dillon for almost 2 years now we finally made it to Blacktail for dinner. Wow. I wish we would have ventured in sooner! This is now at the top of our list for great places to eat in Dillon. We ordered one of the featured appetizers (spinach and artichoke dip) to start and then we ordered the larger cut of the ribeye steak smothered (sauteed mushrooms and onions) and split the plate for an additional $5. We both were served a salad, vegetables, bread, and baked potato. The steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The potatoes were large and done just right. The broccoli was steamed to crisp tender. The salad was fresh and had a variety of vegetables. To top off the wonderful meal we tried the bread pudding...just like Grandma used to make. Delicious!! Would recommend to anyone. read more
