My last 2 or 3 visits have definitely not been 4-star experiences. Based on my experience dining this evening, I think even 3 stars is generous. I ordered ribeye with baked potato and sides of salad and soup. The soup was a puréed broccoli cheese soup that was bland. The salad looked good but the blue cheese dressing was somewhat bland a watery. The steak was ordered medium but no more than medium. It was about 1/2 inch thick, over spiced and over cooked. I'd put the steak in the pathetic category considering the price ($52). One of my companions had Caesar salad. It was salty and lacking the zest from lemon. She wasn't impressed with the "seasonal vegetable" which was a corn and pepper dish. She liked her entree, the lemon salmon. My other companion had the same impression as I did of the blue cheese dressing. He liked his steak (NT strip) and was grilled to order. The service and ambience were good. All things considered, our experience was quite disappointing. I can no longer recommend The Den. read more

Definitely have to increase to five star. They remodeled their kitchen recently, and it has been a wonderful experience ever since. This restaurant is quite expensive compared to other options in town so it's a fun experience to be able to eat out fancy for a special occasion. I have given this place multiple attempts to be good, and I have had a good experience and then bad experiences. It is very disappointing how different your experience can be depending on the day, for how expensive it is (at least $100 spent every time I went) I would expect it to at least taste good every time. I have had to send steaks back half the time because it was cooked wrong. I decided to leave a review after I took a partner here for a special birthday dinner and I had a terrible experience. Both meals did not taste good, my meal tasted dry and overcooked and my partner had to send his steak back because it was undercooked just for it to come back gross and charred (it was supposed to be medium originally). I was told at the beginning of the dinner that we would get a free cheesecake slice for my partner's birthday so we were excited and then suddenly when I asked about it, we were looked at like we were stupid and told we had to purchase a dessert. I could've went anywhere else where it would have had better food and a dessert that was free for a birthday. This is our last straw and we probably won't be returning sadly. I would recommend to go anywhere else for birthday celebrations. read more

If you're driving the highway and come upon Dillon and it's rather late in the day. Take my advice and stop at The Den I'll never lead you astray. I'm talking steak here. This is Montana. The Den serves Reserve Angus. Not too lean, not too fat, perfectly cooked. We split a one pound ribeye. What a sandwich it would have made. Our ice teas were excellent. The salad components fresh, chopped to bite size. Our server Jada is a barrel racer and roper and vegetarian. Go figure! Also a Veterinary Medicine student at the local Mintana State U campus. I had the Red Pepper Soup. She thought it would be too hit for July. It was red bell pepper or unhot Chiles in a butter base. Perfectly delicious. We also ordered mushrooms and onions to attend the steak. They were fabulous dahling, fabulous. So close to Idaho and it's Famous Potatoes, we had mashed with from-scratch steak gravy. When in The North, I do as the Northerners do. I have huckleberries. When I have huckleberry cheesecake I have coffee. I'm no fan of heavy cheesecake. I didn't have any issues with that airy, tasty huckleberry-crowned slice of dessert delight. This is no rustic old-timey steakhouse. It's definitely not a chain with 360 identical dining rooms across the nation. It's crafted modern with taxidermy. The Den is like the famous opals of the region, created when magma pushed through the dolomite Cambrian seabed long ago. It's a gem of local freshness, great cooking and good service. After dinner here, I don't know how to give any other eatery five stars. Don't forget the huckleberries. read more

What a wonderful find! On the way up to Canada recently, my husband and I stopped in Dillon and were able to enjoy a delicious dinner at The Den. Drinks were spot on (the lovely bartender, sorry can't remember her name but she's originally from Wyoming) did a great job making our drinks and providing advice on the menu. We started with the dinner salad and onion soup (both were awesome); my husband had the Montana NY strip, medium rare and cooked to perfection. I had the beef dip with sweet potato fries. Arrived early on a fall Friday night. We chose to sit in the side patio since it was beautiful fall day. Our waitress was top notch, attentive, and fun to speak to. Had the summer salad and clam chowder both were delicious. Nice win and beer selection including other drinks as well. You can tell this is the local favorite family place to come to. Been there twice, each time the food was served cold, lame and overpriced. It's more of a place to be seem there instead of eating there. The management must be harsh on the staff because they are always running an add in the local paper for help. I just stay away from the place. read more

We had the Rib Eye (cooked to perfection, medium-rare), French Onion Soup (Besides my Grandma's the best EVER) and Caesar's salad and a bottle of wine..couldn't have asked for a better meal after a long RV drive (We were staying at Right Turn Clyde's RV Park, walking distance) What made it even better was the attention we received from Lainey (?), what a sweetheart and the best service we've had from someone (especially her age group) in a long time!! No way this CFS covered half my oval plate. It was huge and delicious. My husband had the Flat Iron steak and it was really good also. It was cooked perfectly and was well seasoned. My daughter ordered a Caesar salad which was interesting. It had very thick and traditional Caesar dressing which is made with anchovies. She sent it back and got a regular salad. The service was great with the waitress providing good suggestions. The French onion soup was homemade and probably the best I have ever eaten. The hamburger steak with caramelized, onions and mushrooms, and brown gravy was excellent. Homemade patties, nothing store-bought. cheesecake with Field berries was excellent, just as good as mine-- not too sweet. And the crème brûlée was great. And the cute bartender made me the best dirty goose martini. We had shishito peppers appetizers and mini shrimp tacos (flavorful). For our main meal we ordered the ribeye and a baked potato. My husband picked this place and it looks nothing like the dive I danced in when attending summer school at Western Montana College (which is a big clue as to how long ago that was). We split a prime rib dinner and opted for the twice baked potato. The salad was fresh as was the vegetable of the day, sautéed mixed squash. The prime rib was tender and cooked just right. The hotel recommended this restaurant. So we said why not. The Den is a very nice restaurant with a great outdoor seating area, inside bar and dining room. We got there about 530, were seated immediately, given menus and our server came over to greet us with water and took our drink order. I asked for food recommendations and decided on the Beurre Blanc Rice Bowl. It was absolutely delicious. Husband had the halibut which was also very good. Service was excellent.
