Karczma makes a pork version which was so so good. Big fat pieces. Thick, perfectly wrapped cabbage. Juicy, flavorful filling. The sauce was bright with tomato flavor. The wagon wheel decor was a curveball, but the warm and comfy vibe in the restaurant is what mattered most. We loved it.

This continues to be the case. The waffle is cake-like but not overly indulgent, and just the right size. Unfortunately the fruit is more on the tart side, but balances out the waffle well. Next time I will be better prepared. And oh yeah, I still made it out to Peter Pan and got my donuts afterwards.

It's warm, comforting, and a little tart, with slices of smoky, meaty kielbasa and hard-boiled eggs. You can get a 12-ounce "cup" or 16-ounce "bowl," and I like opting for the latter so I can bring the rest home and make it last a little longer. For other standouts on the menu, their fried cheese and potato pierogis are great, with a decent amount of filling and perfectly caramelized onions on top. The sour cream's a must, though I hate that it was an extra 75 cents. Their platters are also hearty and can easily be split into two portions. You can't go wrong with the flavorful Polish platter, which features stuffed cabbage, kielbasa, hot sauerkraut with meat (my mouth is watering just thinking about this), and three pierogis. My partner's enjoyed both the Hungarian-style potato pancake with beef goulash and the stuffed cabbage with mushroom sauce.

Many of their dumpling items are in large packages (2-3lbs a pack) and range from $8-$15 per lb depending on the filling. $15 a pound for their lamb and short rib Pierogis. Price-wise, it's very fair! And you can taste to quality and heart they put into these Pierogis. Can't go wrong with any flavor. I got the lamb and it was stuffed with tender lamb pieces, no filler. And they make for great quick meals! I also snagged a box of cabbage rolls stuffed with a pork and rice filling. Simple home-y flavor and better than rolls I've gotten from restaurants. Just reheat and it's ready to go! $15 for 5 large cabbage rolls was a great deal as well! Would get again. The only thing I wouldn't get again is their soup dumplings, as it was a bit difficult to cook and was a little too doughy near the top of the dumpling. Flavor wise, it was delicious and had a nice broth (assuming you didn't pop them. Only 1 didn't pop). But it was a difficult item to cook right in boiling water, like the instructions mention. Perhaps, user error. Every item is sold by weight and labeled after selecting your items. But they're happy to check the weight/explain price before purchasing.

I came her with my mother today and you all should sit down for my review on this horrible so called "Restaurant". The dumplings were the only Decent part of the meal. My mother ordered Hungarian goulash thinking it would be served with noodles, unfortunately it was a fried pancake. I had the beef stroganoff which is nothing compared to what I eat in Briten Beach, doesn't even compare. We polity told her that the pancake was not what we ordered and with an attitude the waitress left bringing back dumplings with old beef. When we asked for a check she even charged my mother four dollars for a small salad and even charged me for the Hungarian pancake we did not even touch. The bathroom was dirty and so was the place. I will never return or recommend to anyone unless they want to feel cheated on. We should have went to Ginos. This place is horrible never come here she was rude to my mother and I and the food is old and nasty. read more

Polonica was a great experience for someone who's tried Polish food before but doesn't eat it often. The stuffed kielbasa was really good, hearty and flavorful, while the chef's pork chop was a bit dry, decent but not quite as mouthwatering as some hype suggests. The cheese and potato pierogi were soft, comforting, and delicious, easily my favorite of the night. I really loved the tripe soup. It was rich, hearty, and full of tripe, exactly my kind of dish. The peach blintz was disappointing, with a filling that didn't have the light, sweet finish I was expecting. Polonica is a solid spot to explore Polish dishes, and I would definitely try more. read more

This place has great hearty meals that I can only handle in winter - it's BYOB but there is a polish bodega next door that sells polish beer - what more could you want. I have a word or two to add here about beets! Anytime I say the word I get looked at like a complete nut - you'd think people have never heard of the things. Certainly most of my friends refuse to even try these earthy delights. Here is a great way to start exploring beets - try the borcht! Nibble at some beet slaw or salad. read more

I don't know from many Polish restaurants, but I do know from food. This place is a hidden gem in Bay Ridge. The Chef's Pork Chop is ridiculously good, some of the best potato pancakes around (not counting my Mother's), and the borscht soup with dumplings are delicious. Great food at reasonable prices. Only drawback is also kind of nice: the size of the restaurant is small. That provides for a cozy atmosphere, but also means you may have a limited choice of where to sit and, if it's really busy, you could be waiting. Big plates, but I can never just choose an entree because I must have a plate of their delicious pirougies or blintzes. I always take something home. Its a small, intimate place, the owner is a great cook, and the prices are very good. No need to run to Greenpoint when there's such a good Polish restaurant in Bay Ridge. read more

When you have a craving for Polish and you live in Bay Ridge, you don't have to go all the way to Greenpoint. This little place has authentic food, quiet atmosphere and nice service. Beet salad was a hit served with big chunks of tender beets. I'm not sure if they boiled and chilled the beets or used another technique to soften them up, but it came out nicely. This time we opted for the khachapuri imeruli. It was delicious. I've yet to come across a khachapuri that I've disliked. Dough was crispy and flakey. Cheese was melty and gooey. Always such a cozy delight. We had the khinkali again - this time with cheese filling. It's a nice vegetarian friendly option, but I prefer the meat or vegetable blend fillings. Cheese in the khinkali was similar to the khachapuri, so it was redundant to order the two together. Would definitely recommend the khinkali but would pick a different filling if you're getting khachapuri. For the main course, we shared the shkmeruli - a roasted chicken in a creamy garlic sauce. I've seen this listed as chicken tabaka elsewhere. It was excellent! Less garlicky than the one I had a Saperavi earlier in the week. Chicken was juicy but the sauce was the star. We dipped the nipples of the khinkali in the sauce to maximize usage. Good list of Georgian wines. Full bar plus some beers including a Georgian one. Service brought out the dishes in a well paced manner. They were very patient as we lounged in their backyard. It was a very comfortable outdoor dining set up. There is one, spacious single occupancy restroom.

Huge Price Hikes, Shrinking Portions, and Missing Ingredients--Unacceptable Value!…read moreI have been a loyal customer of this diner for many years and have lost count of how many times I have eaten there in person or ordered delivery to my home and office. I also recommended this place to many friends and relatives, who then introduced it to others. In the past, the portions were exceptionally generous, the food was flavorful and high-quality, the service was excellent, and the prices were very reasonable. Unfortunately, my recent delivery experiences have been drastically different. The Mediterranean Beeftiki used to be one of my favorite dishes. Previously it arrived as a very large portion, easily enough for at least 2 people, with 2 substantial, perfectly seasoned beef patties filled with generous cubes of flavorful Greek feta cheese and large pieces of fresh tomato. The tzatziki was included, and the dish was incredibly delicious and definitely felt worth ordering. This time, the $20.95 dish consisted mostly of generic, mediocre quality French fries and 2 small hamburger-sized patties. There was barely any feta cheese and almost no noticeable tomato. The portion was dramatically smaller than it used to be and was barely enough for 1 person. I also paid an additional $7 for extra tzatziki. The photo shows exactly how it arrived: in a small disposable cup filled only slightly over halfway. More importantly, the regular portion of tzatziki listed as part of the dish was not included at all. Had I not paid for the extra cup, the meal would have arrived without tzatziki. The food arrived warm, the pita was fresh, and the delivery person handled the order properly. However, the sharp decline in portion size, ingredients, and overall value is extremely disappointing! I completely understand that price increases happen across the board. What is impossible to accept is raising prices while simultaneously slashing portion sizes by up to 90% and cutting back on essential ingredients. Paying significantly more for a fraction of what was once provided leaves customers feeling completely ripped off. By running a business this way, the management is not just losing me--they are losing the massive network of people I personally brought to this restaurant, who in turn brought their own inner circles. Continuing down this path means losing hundreds of loyal customers over time. There are too many exceptional, authentic Greek and neighborhood establishments nearby that still respect their clientele by offering generous portions, top quality, excellent service, and fair value for hard-earned money. Something for management to think about.
