First Polish restaurant we've been to and it was awesome - cheerful, quick service, beautiful brick walls and nice bar. We started with potato pancakes - they were crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside - with applesauce and sour cream, My schnitzel was classic, the egg on top perfectly poached, and fresh thin fries. Cucumber salad was refreshing and dressed with cream, salt, herbs, and a little sugar. My husband had the stuffed cabbage which he raved about. The four of us made it to Christina's after a speed workout at the McCarren Park Track. We ordered one platter and three entrees (Beef steak, veal cutlet, and meatballs with mushroom sauce), which was perfect portion (especially since we were very hungry). Of all entrees, my favorite was veal cutlet, to my surprise. I liked that entrees come with two sides each. Veggies are mostly cabbage and they go great with meaty dishes. Side of beets was seasoned to perfection as well. I'm taking off a star for the forced 20% gratuity - server told us it's 10% tip when she handed us the check, though. Strange. First thing's first: it's CASH ONLY. The closest ATM is in the CVS next door, next to the registers. Came here on Saturday afternoon and the space was somewhat empty. There aren't a ton of tables here so even just a few in the space would probably fill it up. My friend and I split a place of potato and cheese pierogis (boiled) and I ordered the omelette. Service took absolutely forever, and we had to ask multiple times before getting anything. In spite of asking a few times, my friend's coffee arrived as we were almost done with our meal, which was frustrating. Food took more than 20 minutes to arrive which didn't particularly bother us since we had no where to be, but if you're in a hurry it's something to consider. My omelette was ok, but again, I had to ask multiple times for the toast that came with it. It's no fun to get your toast (spread with what might have been margarine?) at the end of your meal. The pierogis, their house specialty were just ok too. I don't get the opportunity to eat them often so they were a treat. I think they come with applesauce and you have to ask if you want sour cream (an extra charge). read more

We ate lunch there yesterday and the service was much worse than during our previous visits, therefore I'm downgrading my rating from five to four stars. We arrived at 1:15 p.m. and only about 3/4 of the tables were occupied - and besides which, the restaurant wasn't short-staffed. We finally had to waylay one of the servers in order to place our order and then it took eons to get our food. No one ever checked back with us during our meal, plus we had to finally ask for the check. Literally stumbled upon this place last weekend and had a hearty meal with a good friend. It was a chilly evening and we both warmed up with this delicious Polish fare. He had the borscht to start and an entree of goulash with potato dumplings and a side of red cabbage. I had the Hungarian pancake with a side of cucumber salad. (A large crispy potato pancake folded and filled with chicken goulash) WOW! Service is attentive but not overwhelming. The atmosphere is relaxed, like a cross between a home-style pub and a diner.
