The food was excellent. The salmon was cooked just right loved it, it was served with vegetables and mushrooms. The Tiramisu was very well done too. Very cozy and beautiful restaurant to eat with the family or friends. Customer service was excellent. I didn't have a waiter on top of my table handing me the bill as in other places that have a rush to serve and hand the bill. I had enough time to eat and relax while chatting with my family. Never going back. I ordered the rib eye steak medium rare and it was overcooked. I didn't even get a steak knife. The mashed potatoes were in the style of hospital cafeteria food. The best part of the order was the broccoli. I saw the owners and told them how crappy their food was. I just had to. I admit that I am not an expert in Polish cuisine by any means but I have found the food here pretty solid. I have been here for a few times and have always ordered their polish platter which consists of pierogis (polish dumplings), stuffed cabbage. Kielbasa, hunters stew. It also comes with a beet salad It's a lot of food for only $10ish. And I always leave this place too full. I can't really comment on other dishes but the Their Polish platter is very tasty and I also like the variety. The restaurant itself looks more like a diner. It seems it's been around for some years and it's not a place I'd bring a date to but a decent place to grab a dinner when you are around the area! read more

I really loved this restaurant. My mother was visiting from out of town, and we originally had planned to go to Karczma. However, we were not received very politely upon our attempt to enter the restaurant and place ourselves on the waiting list for a table. Because this was the second time I'd had a rude welcoming at Karczma, I decided it was in our best interests to support a business that actually wanted to take our money. The interior of this restaurant is cozy and dim-lit. I have an anxiety about being seated at a table in the middle of just about any restaurant, which happened here, but it was spacious enough not to feel as if we were on top of the table next to us. The atmosphere is casual and the noise level is comfortable. I had an order of potato and cheese pierogies, which I would rank on the favorable end of the pierogies I've had from various Polish restaurants. The same goes for their kielbasa and mashed potatoes. Oh, and their prices are very reasonable. Their wine, although limited in selection, is tasteful. Unless you're extremely picky about your whites, you probably won't have any complaints about what they have to offer. The only reason I took a star away is because the service was extremely, extremely slow. For some reason, it's something I've come to expect as typical of a Polish restaurant, but I did become a little impatient here. However, they were busy, and I got over it, and the waitress was also very nice to us, so it's not a dealbreaker. I would come here again! read more

My review is not of their greasy food. It is regarding the blackboard sign outside their cafe. My mom walked by it and cut her arm open on the knife sharp edge of that sign. She bled and bruised! Who wouldn't want polish food after a beautiful outdoor yoga class in McCarren park? A bunch of my yogi friends and i decided to stop in for a late lunch/early dinner yesterday. The place brought back memories of my Nana's kitchen. It was warm, welcoming and smelled like kielbasa. Nana always liked to cook up a good sausage. The flowery lamps (which I'm sure were exact replicas of Nana's) also added to that home away from home feeling. We were a group of 8 and everyone seemed very pleased with their entrees. From chicken liver to borscht to The Polish Platter and Zywiec beer (yes, yogis do eat meat and drink beer), everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. I had the stuffed cabbage, which was great (for stuffed cabbage, but I wouldn't run back for it). However, their red cabbage would make Nana proud. And I loves me some red cabbage. (especially a hefty portion, hooray:) The service was speedy and very friendly. And, also, might I add, quite attractive. Food is dirt cheap for nyc. I don't think there was a thing on the menu for over 10 bucks. But be forewarned, they will tempt you with the breakfast menu even after they stop serving! (damn my love of breakfast food!) All the better though, I was at an authentic polish place for cryin out loud. Ok, so I was born in Poland but grew up in Minnesota. So I know from Polish food and I hit up Greenpoint often. This was the first place I went and I love the Hungrian pancake. Kopitka are like grandmas, all the soups rock, and perfect sernik (cheesecake). All the waitresses are model-hot, which I find weird but could definitely warrant a star for some people. EDITED: To say that a recent meal there, hungarian pancake, bigos, 3 soups, 2 pierogi, 1 kopitka, and 5 beers cost us $83. Still reasonable by NYC standards and the food is still good, but Krolewski Jadlo and ven East Village Ukrainian Restaurant have much lower prices. **************************************************************************** It's RIDICULOUS that there's no restaurant category for Eastern European restaurants! It's not like I'm asking for a category for Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Albanian, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Cyprian, Serbian, Slovakian, Slovenian, and Ukrainian cuisines, but come on, that's 12 countries that Yelp is saying "F*** YOU" to. According to urbanspoon.com, that's 73 restaurants ignored, and we all know that yelpers could probably quadruple that list in a month. Wina, wina, wina wina dajcie! I came in here on Thanksgiving with a friend, mostly because it was the only place around us that was open. It seems a bit divey, but the atmosphere is pleasantly Eastern European, and they even serve Polish beer, which I've been having a hard time finding in the states. My friend got the pierogis, while I got the Polish Platter with pierogis, bigos, stuffed cabbage, and kielbasa. It was almost as good as my mother's cooking. I wasn't expecting to love Christina's, but I totally do! It's definitely a laid back, no frills type of spot. The waitresses are adorable, friendly and very attentive. They didn't seem to mind answering my questions, since I was a Polish food newbie. I ended up getting the Polish platter (kilelbasa, pierogies, bigos, stuffed cabage with potato and salad). OMG, it was delicious. I didn't think I was going to be that into the stuffed cabbage, especially when I saw that it was drowning in this orange colored sauce, but it was awesome. I requested all 3 pierogies be potato instead of the combination, and they were happy to oblige. They were fried heaven. Almost made me wish I had ordered a full plate of pierogies, but then I wouldn't have been able to try the kielbasa, which just put it all over the top. I wasn't too crazy about the bigos, but I think it was just me personally not liking bigos. Anyway, everything else was so damn good, it really didn't matter. My Mom got the pig knuckles, bavarian style. HUGE portion of fried knuckles. She said it was really tasty, and very tender. Her only complaint was that she wished it came with some sort of gravy or sauce. She asked for hot sauce, and the waitress brought some nearly empty, watery looking red liquid. The minor inconvenience didn't ruin our meal, we kept eating happily. Shared a blintz for dessert, Christina style. I don't even like blintzes, but this one was delicious. Really good Polish diner, which is essentially what it is. The hungarian pancake is evenly cooked, which can be the bane of the dish, and loaded with paprika and they even have a chicken hungarian pancake option. I am a bit of a fan of this dish. Also, for a good leisurely breakfast, they have a nice chocolate blintz that is kind of amazing. Great place for a cheap breakfast on a cold day. Like one review below, I remember when it was a true linoleum-floor dive, though the all-chick waitstaff startled with uniforms that could have been from the racks at frederick's of hollywood. It's true that the prices have gone up by 30%-50%, and the space has been substantially upscaled (though still with the tacky greenpoint charm of a wall-mounted waterfall). But the "polish platter" is on the menu as always: pierogies, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa, and soup, which will forever draw me back to this place. The food's the same, and it's darned good. read more

Assuming you, like me, don't speak Polish: take a stab at pronouncing "Zwiec". It's the beer of choice among Greenpoint bodega-goers and oh so delish. And, thanks to the nice waitress at Christina's, I learned that it's actually pronounced something along the lines of "Jivi-etz". Weird, I know. This tale is especially weird because it involved a friendly Polish person in Greenpoint. Forget the waitress... The pirogies! Home made, deep fried and sooooo yummy they'll melt in your mouth and distract you from the old guy passed out at the counter. The stuffed cabbage with mashed potatoes is equally worth sacrificing your arteries. This is the first and only Polish restaurant I've frequented since moving to Greenpoint six months ago. Gentrification is definitely taking its toll on the prices, as most entries are now around $9 instead of $7 in the same time frame. When I first visited, beer price had been nearly doubled by pen on the menu. Even at $9, you get a good amount of food. Like at least one other reviewer, I prefer the beef goulash with potato pancakes and two sides. You also get a burger deluxe for around $7. Two eggs and bacon plus home fries was $3.95 in mid-2007, now it appears to be more around $5. The breakfast portions are on the small side, but still filling. The atmosphere is on the nicer side, with dark wood trimmings and even a little waterfall. Seating is relatively sparse as this restaurant is rather small. read more

Christinas is maaybe a 1 minute walk from my apartment; I'm there at least once a week. My family is Polish, but I had no idea that *everything* they cooked was polish, also...until I walked into Christinas. Cucumber salad? Just like mom's. Pierogies? Just like Grandmas. Polish Beers? While we were still eating, we got a bill and a "no rush, but also we are closing at 10..." If you are a "meat and potatoes" kinda guy, you will love Christina's. Seriously, I think everything on the menu contains meat and/or potatoes. Now, I am not a meat and potatoes kinda gal, but I still love Christina's. The price absolutely can't be beat and everything I've tasted there has been delicious. As a recently reformed vegetarian, I can definitely get my meat fix on the cheap there. Stick with the Polish classics--pierogies with golden fried onions, kielbasa, etc. Everything is cheap enough that you can even get adventurous and try something that you haven't heard of, like the "house specialty" Hungarian pancake, which is a super crispy potato pancake with a kind of tangy chicken/tomato stew on top. The vibe is very casual and neighborhoody. It seems like they're making an effort to dress it up a bit--if you're lucky you'll get there on an evening where the friendly Polish waitresses are wearing matching leaopard-spot tops. read more

I'm only basing this on one visit where I had three dishes. The pierogies were fantastic. The cabbage and mushrooms were subtly delicious, but they were deep fried as opposed to pan fried, so know that if you order them fried. The boiled pierogies we had (potato and cheese) were comforting and filling; perfectly accompanied by the apple sauce and dabs of sour cream. Though I love fried things, I'd take the boiled over the fried in this context. But for me, the piece de resistance was the plate of blintzes. I'd never had true blintzes made with quark, a fresh cheese that is more delicate and flavorful than ricotta. The quark is surrounded by a pancake that is both tender and crispy. We had ours topped with summer fruit, which offset the richness of the cheese and sour cream. The Nutella and banana option would have been overkill (for me). This restaurant is the perfect antidote to the encroaching vegan/organic/hipster cafes surrounding it. The food is excellent and authentic, the service is attentive and they still played Katie Melua, to maintain their Brooklyn street cred. My (Polish) mom loves this place, which is the only reason I ever go. Frankly, I think the food is pretty bland, but she loves their pierogis. We got a few order of pierogis to-go the other day and we got two portions of the "Russian style" which has a cheese and potato filling, and one portion of the blueberry filling. We both parted ways and ate our pierogis at our respective homes around dinner time. After one bite I immediately call my mom, she picks up, realizes its me (still no caller ID, my parents live in the stone age) and without me mentioning them at all says "These pierogi are terrible". The filling tasted sour, and completely inedible. I wasn't sure if the cheese had spoiled or if they were using a new recipe with some kind of tangy ingredient. You don't have to be Polish to figure out that pierogis should not taste tangy. There has been a sign in the window that they are looking for "a woman to work in the kitchen" for a while- and now I get it. read more

I would've given them five stars if there were more meatless options, however as anyone who is familiar with european food is aware, Polish food is not made to be healthy its made to be full of comfort, flavor, and butter:) For those who do eat meat I recommend the Polish platter, as u get a true variety of some of the best Polish foods from the pierogi to stuffed cabbage, bigos (cabbage and kielbosa), fried kielbosa ans a side of vegetables (either salad or red cabbage is recommended). This was an adventure....never taken the G before, it was an ok area though. I went here a couple of weeks ago with friends for our monthly dinner get together. We were planning on going to this other place down the street, but they couldn't accommodate a group, so we walked along until we found this place. It was roomy, but not too full. First things first...the wait staff was cute, and very pleasant. We couldn't pronounce anything, and they were all very patient with us. We ordered several of each of the PINT beers which were only like $4 or $5 (good considering they were $2 in the store, not much of a mark up). I can't say that the food was great, it was ok...not expensive at all...Tell you the truth, I can't remember at ALL what I had...some meat thing, but I remember it being pretty devoid of flavour.....but that could have been the 3 beers I had consumed while waiting for it. Service was pretty quick, maybe a twenty minute wait or so for food, and we were a group of thirteen people. They were very accomodating, and didn't mind that we were pretty loud (although not obnoxious). They added a service charge, but it was very reasonable. I would go back, and defintely try something else on their menu. We didn't get to try to blintzes because they closed the kitchen while we were there (pretty late), so no hope there. My husband is a creation of habit....Every other week we have the same ritual... go to Greenpoint Ave. to cash his check...back to a Diner at Queens Blvd for Breakfast, Grocery shop then go home. I was really tired of the Breakast they serve at the Diners..so we stayed in Greenpoint instead... I am so glad we stayed there...I had the most healthy & delicious Breakast....I ordered the Christina's Omelet..which is Avocado, Spinach, Onion & Swiss Cheese...served with Kasha, Toast, Marmalade & butter...Coffee & Orange juice and Nashad, his usual, Two Eggs,with Toast, Coffee & orange juice,...It was so good , I have to go back and try their Kielbasa Omelet, their version of Eggs Benedict & Eggs Florentine. What more our server was very pleasant and accommodating...and the place so cozy nice & clean., and most of all the prices are very affordable..depends what you are ordering ..runs from $4.45 TO $6.00. read more

Oh man, just writing this review makes me want to go back. Went in for lunch and got eight pierogi and soup for $8.25. That's a good deal in itself, but even better when the food is damn good. The bean soup was pretty much white beans and sausage, and whatever spices went into it. And the pierogi were just filled with deliciousness. Nicely fried, sour cream on the side, and onions. We came to Greenpoint on the Monday after Easter hoping to eat some polish food and purchase some goodies at the meat markets. However, to our surprise everything was closed. I'm not sure if this was a holiday thing or a Monday thing. After losing all hope we stumbled upon Christina's...we didn't do our usual take a look at the menu and see if we like the inside...we just wanted Polish food. When we entered inside I was a bit skeptical...it's dark and the decor is very old school...worn out booths and dark wood everywhere. We all ordered the kielbasa entree, which came with potatoes (we all got mashed potatoes) and one side (we got red cabbage and sauerkraut). The entrees were big and filled us up...we only ate 1 of the 2 scoops of mashed potatoes. Everything was super yummy and for three entrees and 2 beverages we paid $27. With these prices and these portions I think I might venture out of Manhattan to Greenpoint a lot more often. read more
