I live in Baltimore Md & whenever I work in Laurel or the DC area, I always stop at Pollo Campero to get some of the best chicken ever to take back home to my family. I've e-mailed several times to suggest that there be some Baltimore locations considered. In Hawaii, we don't have restaurants like this. Whenever I would pass this place on our way to Navy Federal, I always said that I would try this place. There's alot of mexican/latino restaurants off of Rt 1 so was curious to try a "chain" mexican chicken joint. Never, ever had yucca fries but I was addicted after my first try. Hubby was like, what are those? These are mine and just keep your grubby hands off of them! Yucca fries are like, light an airy but heavy? Weird, I know, but it's addicting! The sauce, I don't know what it is, but it's good too. I dip it in that sauce as well as their spicy salsa sauce. The first visit, I had a grilled 2 piece chicken plate with a side order of campero beans. As much as I hate drumsticks, it was very juicy and tasty. The chicken breast, was indeed dry. I just ate the skin. I'm glad I had the yucca fries and beans to tie me over. I was going to try my husband's burrito since all he kept saying while eating it was "I like this place... I like this place alot.. This is great.." Sorta in a tantric mantra state. Also I had their tres leches cake. I guess it is as good as a chain place can get? I just had a couple of bites since I was full but it was very sweet, spongy, and creamy sweet. Oh, forgot to mention that the beans were mild but flavorful. Pintos? The next visit, I had the fried chicken bowl and my favorite yucca fries. Now the chicken bowl was a winner. Everything my husband was eating in his burrito was in a bowl sans the tortilla, sour cream and cheese. Most delish. 2nd visit, he ordered the same thing. The food here is always super delicious! Since COVID-19, I generally used curbside pickup and for the most part everything is usually great! The customer service is top notch as well. If there is ever an issue, I guarantee you the manager on call is always on top of things and will provide outstanding customer service. The folks there are kind, supportive and accommodating. Well, I hate to do it, but I have to remove a star because they've changed the recipe, and it's no longer the best fried chicken sandwich I've ever had :( We went in for a quick dinner tonight, and there was a sticker on the menu next the sandwich saying "New sauce!" Oh no! It wasn't a bad sauce, sort of a lime-cilantro mix, but it was so good before... It still is better than Chic-fil-a, with it's side of political interference, though, and has some other cool stuff on the menu. Plus, this place just gets grimier each time we go. Would it kill you guys to wipe down the tables once in a while? And keep the salsa bowls filled? And what's up with the rude customers in this place? (No, I don't fault the restaurant for its clientele! So I used to go to this place all the time for the combos, decent food attached with a decent price. So I went tonight, like 15 minutes before they closed. Instead of just notifying us that they were closing soon, the employee ran to both exits to lock us out. One of the other employees let us in to offer us some food, at that point it wasn't even worth it. I first fell for Pollo Campero when I lived near Herndon VA. back in 2002-2005. The chicken was excellent and so were the sides. The service was friendly and fast. That said, the Laurel location is relatively new compared to the Herndon, Wheaton, and Hyattsville locations. It is closer to my home and now you can order online. YEAH!!! But the quality of the fried chicken and the new sides is disappointing. I am sad to see they no longer offer a mixed-green salad. My drink ordered online was not available. I ordered the guava but it was not available when I came to pickup my order. My greatest disappointment was the chicken. The breading was overly salty. It was so salty, too salty. The saltiness overwhelmed the chicken flavor. The chicken was crispy but sloppy. The skin on the thighs and legs was salty and falling off. Great customer service. read more

After moving to the Laurel area in April, I gave this place a try. The young girl at the register was really nice and explained the differences of the menu items for me (she even gave me a small sample of the chicken!) I opted for the roasted chicken and paid the upcharge for the plantains. Wen I got home, I was disappointed because the chicken was so dry! It honestly made me sad because it looked so good in the store. The plantains were delicious and the serving side was quite large (so worth the upcharge). I stopped here with my mom, famished, after a day of car repairs & furniture shopping. Our expectations weren't high, however I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered both the Peruvian and fried chicken (because again, FAMISHED) and both were juicy & well-seasoned. I ordered the yuca fries (yum) and my mom ordered the corn salad (unremarkable). Take note that although it's fast food, they serve patrons on actual plates, not disposable. I don't frequent Pollo Campero too often but when I do I am always satisfied. I've only tried their bowls with the crispy chicken, camperito bites, and fries. It's always slow to get your food, but they have the best fries! Sometimes the nuggets can be a bit salty, but never too much for a super taster like me. So I rarely ever review chains, because you know, a chain is a chain is a chain. By design. But so few people are aware of the existence of Pollo Campero that I thought it'd be worth the time and minor effort. I tried Pollo Campero for the first time in Takoma Park, while attending nearby UMCP. Back then I thought it was unique among the offerings of fast food chicken, but had some work to in the way of being a one-stop chicken shop. A feature on that Marc Summer Food Network show and several years later, I rediscovered Pollo Campero and decided to give them another shot. Talking about coming a long way. Not only had they expanded their selection but they now have a very good, very streamlined online ordering system. No wonder they've managed to stay in business this long! I've used this system to order a variety of menu items (as I always do when testing an unfamiliar food joint) a few times from this location and so far everything has been really good and at worst average. Among my favorites are the original fried chicken and grilled citrus chicken (both unique, juicy, and bursting with flavor), empanadas (deep fried decadent bliss), campero beans (I never like beans as a side too), and the excellent sweet plantains (made perfectly). Oh and the sauces at the sauce bar are actually worth your time. Very fresh and very good. The only knock on this particular location is no drive through! read more

Their citrus grilled chicken is tasty, and not greasy. Plantain is naturally sweet. Campero beans is very good. Empanada has lots of filling. I also like their chicken tortilla soup, but they have stopped offering it. They used to have delicious salsa on the counter that you could just scoop. They have stopped offering that too. The cashiers and servers are friendly, always smiling. Sometimes they are out of grilled chicken, but they don't tell you until you get to the cashier. I wish they would put up a sign so time is not wasted lining up. I'm not much a fan of their fried chicken. I'm giving them 5 stars for their citrus grilled chicken. read more

Have passed this place quite a bit and finally decided to stop in. From the colorful interior to the Latin music playing and on the TV you'd have thought you were in Florida. I think people overlook it because it is a Spanish/Latin/Hispanic fast food place that looks a little more high-end than it is. You shouldn't. The place is clean and the menu looks tasty and tempting. Definitely a different look and feel than a say....Popeye's, which is directly across the street. I got a two-piece leg and thigh with black beans and fruit juice. They have me a placard and brought the meal to my table. I was able to leave it there for them to pick up when I was done. The chicken was tasty. Not deeply fried and crispy like a Popeye's, it looked and tasted "cleaner", "sleeker"....better. This came with a dinner roll and the table had two types of hot sauce. For the price, I'd have preferred a little more, but the menu is full of complete order options. It's A-OK with me. I think I'll be a fan when I return for something different. I've wanted to eat at Pollo Campero for a long time. My wife worked in Guatemala for a few years and loved the iced tea at Pollo Campero. So I was excited to see I was twenty minutes from one on a recent trip to Maryland. My son and I stopped in for lunch and the place was busy, good sign. We order two three pieces. My son got fries and a roll for his sides and I got rice and a tortilla. Drinks aren't included in the combos, bummer. So I ordered the mango drink and son a fountain soda. Everything totaled $20 which I thought was a bit expensive when compared to KFC. The chicken was delicious , but found the sides were nothing I couldn't buy from the frozen food section at the grocery store. The facility was clean and the employees were hospitable and bilingual. And that famous tea my wife raves about? Apparently they don't serve it anymore. Kind of a bummer. Overall it was a good experience, but won't go out of my way to eat at one again. read more

I like this place. Pretty surprised that a chain restaurant had such good tasting food. I got the grilled chicken. It was extremely juicy. Think it has something to do with pressure cooking... The yucca were actually the best I've ever had. Very soft inside and crispy outside. The plantains were also pretty good. Sauces provided were sour cream and some read dipping sauce. The latter I did not care for. I am use to the yellow mayonaise type, and the verde type. Probably just needed to ask for those. Had the worst customer service experience at this location by your cashier Maria. Never speak to a customer in such a manner to make them feel stupid. Your role as a cashier is to explain and recommend the products on your menu and to ensure that your customers understand what they are purchasing. I highly recommend that your company invests in coaching and developing your employees. It's saddening to know that this individual felt that it was ok to be disrespectful, I can only imagine how she treats other customers. 2nd visit, brought the wife this time and ate in. Grilled chicken is the way to go, get the lime sauce which was excellent, chicken was pretty decent, but not Pollo Loco from Caly. Beans, black and el campero, were excellent as well. Service was fairly slow and a lot of tables were unbussed while it started getting busy. Parents let their kids run out of control and wait staff said nothing. Best option is call ahead and pick up your order for take home where you can relax and enjoy a beverage. read more

Stopped by on Christmas day and was delighted they were open. Very friendly ladies working the front end of the business. This was my first time trying the food here. We ordered the fried chicken and the rice/black beans. All were excellent. Perfectly seasoned chicken. The black beans were delicious, some other places the beans can be bland. I wanted to try the grilled chicken but they were out. My family at home loved the food as well. I went back a couple of days later to try the grill chicken, and they we out again. This is the reason for the 4 stars, because on both visits no grilled chicken was available and this was early in the day. We were willing to wait, but we weren't given that option. We left this time without making a purchase. They really need to work on having all menu items available for the majority of the day. read more

Okay well, I will pretty much eat anywhere & anything. Not here again. I went there for lunch, around noon on the 27th of April. I decided I will try something new. I received cold fries, chicken thats been sitting there, and old mashed potatoes. The price I paid($8.46? for a 3 piece meal), was the only thing making me finish my meal. To follow the horrid so called meal, I was annoyed the entire time I was eating in there. There was a loud high pitch noise coming from the kitchen all the way through my meal... I couldn't even hold a conversation with my co-worker(which by the way totally agreed with me{same with my bosses previous experience}). I could have easily have went to Popeyes across the street and spent the same amount of money and got a better tasting and enjoyable meal. The only thing this place had over Popeyes, is that Pollo Campero is slightly more healthy. Never again will I eat there. read more

Pollo Campero is great. If you want fried chicken, it is better than any KFC or Popeyes around. Their grilled Citrus chicken is also just as good, if not better. Give it a try--tastes like real homemade chicken. Sides could be improved, like plantains should be flat and cooked crispier, as is the norm in Latin America, but overall, a good place to eat, chicken can't be beat (you can even get a mixture of fried and grilled) and it is all good. There is nothing fancy about this place, but if you want good food over ambiance, this is the place to go. read more
