    Plantains

Hubby's been waiting for this place to open. Said he had this a few times when he was younger. We tried a few things. Hubby had the 4 piece special with plantains and fries. My daughter got the 6 piece nuggets with fries and I got empanadas for me and hubby to try and the Yuca fries. First, everything smelled good but I usually double check the order and we were missing our plantains which is ok we were still there. When we got home I didn't realize we were missing the rolls for the meals either. We didn't want to go back a third time and left it. The chicken was decent not that bad. Hubby preferred grilled over the fried chicken. Said flavor was delicious. Plantains were not bad. Fries I think were the best. Not salty at all kind of soggy but very delicious and I personally prefer soggy fries. The chicken nuggets were also ok. They weren't bad. Girls ate a couple and the fries. Now the yuca fries, they tasted a bit old. They were kind of stale and not my favorite. Empanada was crunch and filling was tasty. Those are good. Overall, I had higher hopes for this place and so did hubby. We were a bit disappointed and then given we were the only ones in the drive thru and the restaurant was kind of empty, we still received our order incorrectly. The staff were friendly I will say that.

They are slow but we dont care. Food is great and workers are very lovely and polite

I've never been here before and was excited to finally try it. I ordered a spicy chicken sand-which. The breading was soggy and the chicken itself in some spots was really hard. It grossed me out!

I was so excited to see a new easy to grab place so close to me !! I went ahead and tried it and omg just amazing smelled so good even ordering in the drive through the anticipation was well worth it ! it was super crowded inside so we went through the drive through and it was sooo quick i was expecting to wait and would've been fine with that. the fries are so crispy and as a ranch lover im thankful they have ranch:) I also got the grilled chicken thigh and it was honestly comparable to homeade chicken just amazing ! i'm not sure why there are bad reviews here, I loved it so much i went twice today amazing service, food and location !

Ordered the family 30-piece Campero nuggets...although crunchy, some were old & dry. You could tell by the coloring...the fresh ones were lighter in color. These were not worth the price...over $31.00. So each nugget averaged over a dollar!

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly The GOOD First time trying out Pollo Campero. What motivated me to try them were reviews online and elsewhere about their fried chicken. I've had no luck with finding delicious fried chicken in Lake Elsinore or surrounding cities. Only place I had found was in Pechanga Casino food court but that is little far for fast food and if I go the slot machines will eat up my $. Glad I did try Pollo Campero today. Their FRIED CHICKEN was DAMN GOOD. I ordered the 3 piece meal which comes with 2 legs and one thigh. I have to say that when I opened the box to take a peak at my fried chicken I thought all pieces were kinda small. As I bit into the chicken I realized why it seemed smaller. The chicken was all meat with no fat and just the right amount of fried batter layer. It was fried just right. It's been my experience that other places around here the fried chicken pieces look huge but when you bite into them they are all fat with mostly clumps of fried batter. BUT not at Pollo Campero. I pray to God they keep this consistency because if they do I will be eating here weekly and I'll tell my friends, family and neighbors. The side dishes, beans and rice, were proper sizes. I mixed the beans and rice which had a unique yet familiar flavor. Reminded me of the Central American Casamiento dish which is rice and beans reheated in pot or pan to create a unique flavors from both. The BAD This location is new and seemed a little under staffed at 11am. Also the one cashier was moving somewhat slow. Probably still learning. However I will say they were all polite and friendly. I say all because the cashier excused himself when it was my turn to order and called the manager to take my order. The manager was professional and friendly and rung up my order right away. The Ugly I don't really have anything too harsh to say except that this location needs a little refinement as far as staffing and employee training on order systems. One other thing, the gentleman who was taking orders had a filthy hat and shirt. Filthy as in batter powder and his shirt & hat. He also had "sweat" spots on shirt. It appeared like he actually worked in the back prepping and cooking the chicken in hot over or fryers. Perhaps keep him in the back and not helping on register or have him clean up before facing customers in front. I imaging the staffing is the challenge. Having said all this, will I return. YES YES AND YES. Because my Pollo Campero fried chicken was finger licking good.

Cold Tortillas on my Family Meal while eating "Here"

I did in fact, like the beans out of everything

Pollo Campero in Lake Elsinore provided a positive drive-through experience with good customer service and a cool aesthetic. I did like the beans. Also, the mac & cheese isn't available at this location was told that , but it's on the menu .... and available at other locations. Here are some pictures and their menu.

A mango drink . Thank you Monica for recommending the mango drink

I have a confession to make. The last time I ate here was when El Comal was on Mission Trail in…read morethat tiny little building with just a few table for diners before the disastrous fire destroyed El Comal 1.0. Since re-opening in their new location several years ago, I never ate there again (work schedule) though my wife and sons would take our out of town family to eat here often. This past Saturday, I was craving some really tasty pupusas and suggested to my wife we have an early dinner here before heading to Balboa Park-San Diego for an evening concert. We arrived around 1530 hours and honestly I was expecting that El Comal would be in that quiet period from just finishing their lunch service and prepping for their Saturday night dinner service. I was so wrong. The parking lot was full and when we walked in the place was full of happy customers. We were warmly greeted by a friendly hostess at the entrance desk who advised us there would be an approximate 10 minute wait for a table. We agreed and waited hungrily. We were soon seated and our server Brandon quickly took our beverage order: a frozen strawberry margarita ($11.00) and a soda (4.00) for me. We looked over all of the tempting items El Comal's menu offered but we finally settled on: 1-Taco Salad w/meat ($16.00); 1-#12 Combo (1-Chicken Enchilada & 1-Chile Relleno) $17.00; 2-Spinach & Cheese Pupusas $6.00 each ($12.00) Pre-Tax/Tip Sub-Total: $60.00 My wife tried her margarita: just by her initial expression, I could tell that El Comal's bartender was not stingy with the booze. Her cocktail was very tempting, and I will definitely have to order one the next time I'm here and not driving. One thing I observed is soda refills were never offered. A complimentary small basket of fried tortilla chips and a kinda watery, mild salsa was brought to our table. Despite the watery salsa, it still had nice flavor to it. Just wish it had a little more body to it. Soon our entrees arrived excep tfor the pupusas. I'm thinking to myself,"That's ok, I'll polish off my combo plate and then scarf down one of the pupusas, because that combo plate won't fill me up. My wife's taco salad was huge and very generous with all the fixings that went inside the salad. My cheese enchilada and chile relleno were very tasty. The accompanying refried beans and rice were equally good and I joined the clean plate club that afternoon. While the amount of food of the combo plate looks kind of small, it wasn't. Once I finished the combo plate, I was pretty full by tiem the pupusas arrived from the kitchen. I wanted to have a small taste so I ended up cutting one of the pupusas into quarters and my wife and I each savored one quarter. My wife has a cousin who dated a Salvadorean. She told us the pupusas and cabbage slaw here reminded her of her exe's grandmother who would offer "J" homemade pupusas with slaw which she always greatly enjoyed. We really appreciated Brandon's attention to detail whe he brought us a couple of to-go containers: he thoughtfully provided a small bag of that wonderful cabbage slaw and a small container of the sauce, both used for eating with the pupusas. I'm glad to see El Comal rose from the ashes and continue to present great service, hospitality coupled with great tastng food and cocktails in their present location. I promise to eat here more often moving forward.
