You need to eat here! We tried several menu items; Pork Sandwich with coleslaw on it was amazing- lots of meat and the BBQ was so good. Very messy! The Cheeseburgers were delicious and the seasoned fries were tasty! If you just finished your Tour of Graceland and looking for great BBQ this is the place. Ordered 1/2 rack of ribs and they were amazing.Very meaty ribs and that BBQ sauce was lip smackin good. The Pork Shoulder at Pollards is very good. The texture is right, with just a hint of smoke. I ordered the regular sauce, and it was very mild. I'd recommend the Hot BBQ Sauce. As part of my Pork Duo plate, they added Ribs to my plate along with Beans and Potato Salad. The Beans were very good--- a little bit sweet and mild for my taste, but had bits of pork shoulder in them that shows Pollards is doing more than dumping beans in a pan and heating them up. The Potato Salad was the typical Memphis Potato Salad found in BBQ joints--- Mustard/Mayo with pickle and pimento. This seems to be what is expected by many BBQ fans, and this version is tangier than most. The Ribs were 3 1/2 down Spareribs and were average. This cut of rib is an economical one, and a lot of BBQ places use this basic rib cut. The meat was tender, but the meat didn't pull away clean from the bone. The mild sauce was very mild, but flavorful. In comparison to the Shoulder meat, they fell short of expectations. I think a better cut of Rib might help improve this part of the menu. The restaurant itself really threw me for a curve. I've been in almost every BBQ joint in Memphis, and I've never seen anything like this place. I like the color green, but I don't need three shades of green in contrasting blocks to go with the floral tablecloths covered by laminate. I felt like I was in the Pottery Barn. I kept looking over my shoulder for somebody to put out throw pillows in my booth. Then I saw the explanation on the counter---- an article from the Commercial Appeal stating that Pollards had been "decorated" by that idiot on "Restaurant Impossible". I almost laughed when the realization set in. Pollards looks like a BBQ place from the street, but the inside looks wrong for a Memphis Barbecue place. "I'd like a Feng Shui Pork with a side of Pretentiousness". The tourists from Graceland are going to love this one! The Pollards are very nice people, and their food is above-average for Memphis BBQ. That is a compliment coming from me. I will be going back soon to try their Beef BBQ, and their BBQ Spaghetti. Magnificent bbq in a very "hole in the wall" place! Stopped by for lunch because of high yelp ratings and I was thoroughly impressed. You wouldn't think much from the outside, but the food inside is amazing!!! We were kindly greeted and taken care of by Denise, who I assumed was the owner. She was beyond friendly and took care of us very well. I ordered the meat duo (pick two meats and two sides) the bbq ribs, pork, french fries, and potato salad. After a very short wait, our food came out and wowza it was tasty!!! The ribs and pork were moist, warm, and exploding with flavor. Not going to lie, my gps didn't even take me to the right place! Yet when I got here I wasn't disappointed. A hole in the wall that packed a punch. That was my first time and my last time going there. Order some rib tips it was full of fatty meat .the little lean that was on it was hard as wood and it wasn't cooked long enough too. Garbage. took that s*** home and Feed it to my dogs, the difference between pollard barbecue and Pedigree dog food is the barbecue sauce. white people coming there and act like they starving Ethiopians and never had food in their life before. that was my first time and my last time I wouldn't recommend that place to nobody but dogs. Yes, it quite possibly is the best I ever had. Everything from the sauce, ribs, pulled pork, and sweet tea. Eh....I expected a bit more to be honest. It appeared they were out of most things. I don't recommend the rib tips. I had more fat then actual rib meat. The mild sauce was a touch on the watery side. Onion rings were from frozen. The slaw was pretty good actually. It took me a bit of time but I remember seeing them on Resturant Impossible a few years ago. Once again, Yelp steers us right! 2+ years of living in the barbecue desert that is Nashville wqs enough. The family decided to spend a weekend playing tourist in Memphis. After a morning at Graceland we did our search and found Pollard's. My wife got the pork plate with fried okra and potato salad, and I got the rib plate with baked beans and onion rings. The girls got hot dogs with french fries. The meats had incredible flavor. The sauces were good, but the meat didn't need them. Nice, smoky flavor and very tender. My wife declared the fried okra to be the best she has had since we moved from South Carolina. The baked beans had little bits of pork in them and a sweet/smoky flavor that was out of this world. The onion rings were delicious and crunchy, and the potato salad was better than your grandmother's. Even our picky eater girls devoured their hot dogs. They looked a little overcooked, but the taste was great. Mildly spiced and a hint of smoke. The portion/price ratio was excellent. They look to do a thriving take-out business, and if the food is always this good it's easy to see why. If you are from the Carolinas and in town for a football game, you won't go wrong by checking out Pollard's. In fact, you'll want to bring some home just to compare. read more

BEST BBQ PLACE EVER!!!!!! We found this little gem on vacation last year and fell in love with it! My dad and I walked in and were immediately met with southern hospitality! The staff were very kind to us and helped us get everything we wanted, being from Northern Michigan were not really used to much hospitality from restaurants. At one point I was stuck between deciding if we wanted to get hot sauce of mild sauce, I wasn't sure so they said I could mix the two which I was very happy with :). The food was excellent! How I pick is what's in the area of my travel. It was Pollard's, Marlowe's and Big Bill's this time. We stopped at Pollard's. Wife had pork sandwich, it didn't taste good. We shared rib tips, too much work for the meat. I had ribs, came covered with sauce. If you add that much sauce before trying, it's covering something up. This joint is a great BBQ place. It's spicy BBQ pork sandwich is among the spiciest, if not spiciest, in the Memphis area. It's been a while since I've been pleasantly surprised by a BBQ joint. I stopped by here this past Friday afternoon for lunch with my wife. After touring Graceland in the morning we were looking for some BBQ and Yelp pointed us here. As we pulled up to the restaurant the first thing that we noticed was a sign saying that they had been on the Food Network. Then as we entered the doors we found a nice looking place on the inside. It was L shaped with a long bar on the long part of the L and then tables in the rest. The walls were painted bright colors and they had some sheet music on the walls. Whenever we were told to sit wherever we wanted we choose a table along the wall. For lunch my wife and I decided to try just about everything on the menu and ordered two meat duos. With those we got pork, rib tips, ribs and sausage with our chosen sides being bbq spaghetti, fried okra, fried green tomatoes and pickle chips. Then for dessert I ended up ordering the Elvis which was a banana and peanut butter sandwich in between two pieces of French toast. After a little bit of a wait our food came out and boy was there a lot of it. My favorite of the meats ended up being the sausage which had a nice complex flavor to it. Then after that I enjoyed the rib tips and ribs which while they weren't fall off the bone still had a great smokey flavor to them. For the sides my favorite was the fried green tomato which had a great cornmeal crust to it. The BBQ spaghetti was easily the most interesting and was exactly what it sounds like, BBQ sauce (with scraps of meat) over top of a bed of spaghetti. Although I was pretty full at this point I still had my Elvis sandwich on the way. While I like each individual component I wasn't sure how they would play together. Of course if Elvis liked it then I figured it would be good and indeed it was. Surprisingly with all of the sweets on it the taste wasn't cloyingly so. I should also note that the food alone was probably only 4 stars good so what really made the place a 5 star joint was the service. Our server was very kind to us and constantly checked on us which was pretty incredible since I think she was running the whole front of the house by herself. Fantastic service and decent food. I ordered fried okra which was actually disappointing. My son ordered the ribs with a side of baked beans and slaw and my husband pork and sausage. The meat itself was okay (not great) but the sides were quite disappointing. If you are in the area, definitely go. Really wonderful people who run the place. Decent food. Okay prices. Pretty average bbq. Menu is confusing if you want plates with a few different options rather than just a sandwich or by the pound. Sausage by itself was actually pretty good, but covered in the "ultimate" sauce, it was tough to stomach. Ribs were bland drenched in bbq sauce. They were tough to eat and didn't fall off the bone as I had hoped. Pulled pork was as comparable to any food store in my opinion. This was our first trip to Memphis - and after leaving Graceland, we knew we wanted down home BBQ. Pollards was right up the street on Elvis Presley Blvd. It looks like a little hole in the wall. First off, THEY HAVE THE BEST FRIED PICKLES I HAVE EVER HAD. We ended up getting a second order. We sampled the pulled pork sandwich and wings. Both amazing. The slaw and fries were perfect. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I would recommend Pollard's to everyone!!! For dessert, they have a Elvis dish, bananas and peanut butter on French toast with Carmel drizzle. I mean, come on.
