    Chilaquiles

Came here to sample their chilaquiles and was not disappointed. Opted for the green salsa and fried egg topping option. Flavors were great, clearly homemade and authentic in influence. We also enjoyed the concha and guacamole served with chicharrones. Service was friendly and attentive; the staff was super nice. Parking - small private lot or street

Carnitas taco. The plate is a medium size plate not a regular size. Trust me, it may look regular size but it wasn't. Go see for yourself.

Went there for the first time as I see it when I'm on N. Shepherd. Here's my take. Parking is tricky; you have to back out to a busy street. That can be dangerous. The food well, here it goes; I ordered two tacos one with chorizo and potato and one with carnitas (roast pork) on a corn tortilla. Mind you, not a regular tortilla but those tiny ones. The carnitas taco was delicious but the chorizo and potato was very salty. Not to mention that they were tiny tacos at over $4.00 each. I asked the server if they had plain roasted potatoes: I figured I could add potatoes and lessen the saltiness. To my surprise, he said they don't have sides of any kind of potatoes. What? In a Mexican restaurant? Everyone serves potatoes!!!!! Needless to say, I will never go again. if they want to charge $4 a taco you need to give customers their money's worth; do not use those small appetizer tortillas use the regular size Or at least serve the small tacos with two tortillas. My God.

When they serve other tacos a la carte except barabaco but don't tell you until after you ordered.

Our group of six came for Sunday brunch and left disappointed due to poor communication & service. I work in the service industry and value transparency, especially with pricing. From the start, the owner made me move my car from an unmarked spot, setting a bad tone before I even walked in. When our group came in, the staff seemed overwhelmed with our party size, even though it wasn't busy. I asked for water but was given a tiny cup while others with sodas had full glasses. When I requested the same, I got a medium mason jar which was still not equal. I don't drink sodas and felt less than just because I wanted water. The main issue was ordering our food of barbacoa tacos. My friend and I wanted just one taco each, as we had other lunch plans to go to and the server said okay when we each ordered just one taco. However, she came back to tell us we had to "share a plate" without any mention of price or portion size. The owner had to have told her something because she seemed fine on just a single taco when she took our order. By the time the food came, we were shocked when a full pound of barbacoa arrived, and even more shocked by the $35 charge! Which was almost double to what others paid for full plates. That was the most expensive plate on the breakfast menu. No one warned us about this! Keep in mind that some of the other breakfast tacos that were on the menu were no more than $6 per Taco. This is mainly about the principle having to share a full plate with more food than what was asked for without any transparency. The server then told us that they could not do a single tacos of barabaco and it was also because of the "time that we ordered it." Smh She then complained to our other friend, as if we didn't wanna pay at all, which was never the case and Our other friend just ended up paying it on his tab. Which was never even supposed to happen! We are very disappointed to say the least and will not be coming back. If you want a single barabaco taco here, you can't: they'll serve you more than you asked for and charge you premium prices without being transparent upfront.

Finally decided to stop in after driving by it all the time. So worth it. Super fast service and super delicious filling food. I got the Enfrijoladas and they were everythingggg. The black bean sauce was so balanced and rich. It seriously hit the spot. I can't wait to come back and try everything. The people with me got the chilaquiles and huevo a la mexicana and enjoyed them. I did get a horchata as well but it wasn't as much to my taste it was on the sweeter side of horchatas. It's super nice inside and there's tons of seating. Decent parking outside as well.

This place is awesome!!! The food is more than tasteful it is real authentic mexican food!!! The chef is always on top of your needs personally so that brings a huge bonus to the service, its quiet and really mexican traditional decored! It is my favorite mexican food in Texas for sure.

    Delicious chicharrón appetizer!

Delicious and excellent service. Highly recommended for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Their cafe de olla is truly the best. Their cocktail and food menu never disappoint. This place is authentic to the craft of Mexican cuisine.

Amazing food! Flavorful and authentic cuisine prepared and served by Chef Diego. An absolute hidden gem in Houston.

Fish tacos $17.50 (as of Aug 2023)
    Danny L.

The prices are expensive, the building is next to a busy street, and the small parking lot is a hot mess. Ok, now that I got those out of the way, let's taco bout the food. I ordered the fish taco dish. It's $17.50 for two tacos (as of Aug 2023). It doesn't include rice or beans, but instead some sauce elegantly poured across the vast empty side of the plate to let you know you aren't dining at Torchy's. I must say though, the flavors don't mess around! If you enjoy fish tacos, this is a must. If you want something more substantial but still full of flavor, I recommend Chilaquiles with fried eggs. Luckily, my wife didn't finish hers and I was able to try - it's delicious! Service was friendly, especially the person who sells the merchandise. He has a genuine smile and look of care. He walked us to our table, helped setup the kids chairs, and made sure we were welcomed. Would I want to come back? Probably not because of the prices and distance, but I would recommend others to try.

Chilaquiles!! 10 out of 10!! GREAT

Enfrijoladas and Chilaquiles verdes were AMAZING!!! Service was great, they explained different choices It is the real deal!!

The Tacos Al Pastor (3), margaritas, and the Rice Pudding Empanadas were delicious. Will be back!

AMAZING SERVICE!!! you have some time? Stop by here! Food was amazing the chef came out after our first small meal and recommended some more options on the menu and it did not disappoint!! We ended up getting tequila shots and had a great night. Our server yessica was so sweet and genuine. Definitely coming back! 1000/10!

    Tacos de carne asada

Came to eat brunch and had the chilaquiles, cochinita pibil taco, and the carne asada tacos. Let me tell you that I am always looking for some good chilaquiles and they did not disappoint. The cochinita pibil tacos were my favorite the flavor is great. The service was great very attentive since we walked in the door.

Allow me to be Review No. 1,100 following my visit to this wonderful culinary gem yesterday…read more By default, Spring Branch is Houston's Koreatown, but it's not unusual to find establishments with Spanish-language branding on them throughout the neighborhood. And Tacos Doña Lena, on which I'll heap tons of praise on, is among them. A group of friends and I had supper here before a live show down the street at Eighteen Ten Ojeman. Upon seeing the storefront when we pulled into the parking lot, my first thought was, "Okay, this is legit Mexican, not Tex-Mex." The interior is quite small with some tables and an ample late Saturday afternoon crowd. What caught my eye is how the environment is what you might expect to find at a family-run taqueria off the beaten path. Rock en Español blaring from the sound system. Colorful papel picado draped from the ceiling. A framed Mexican flag and several references to the central Mexican municipality of Guanajuato. The intoxicating smell of spice-laced grilled beef wafting through the air. Simply put, we're not in Kansas anymore, Toto. I glanced at the menu. There are numerous, delicious-sounding items that happen to be wallet-friendly, a bit cheaper than if you were to go to Gringos or Jimmy Changas. According to a mutual, the tacos here are the main draw, but what really caught my attention and appetite was the ramen birria. Mujeres y caballeros (ladies and gentlemen), let me proclaim that Tacos Doña Lena turns a noodle dish with origins in Japan and is a known staple in college dorm rooms into a must-try on this part of America's fourth-largest city. Two amazing food cultures unite for a fiery meeting of the minds. Anchored by a rich, tasty consomé that's spicy but not enough to where you need to drink multiple glasses of water, there's a prime mix of ramen noodle, beef birria, cheese, fried egg, rabanos, garbazo, and corn accompanied by cilantro, onions, and a pair of fried tostadas. I was so impressed with how the contents of the ramen blended together. Since it was ramen after all despite the south of the border touchup, I still ate it the traditional way: pick up the noodles and sip the soup. There was so much that I had no choice but to put it in a takeout container. Sure, Spring Branch may be home to some great traditional Korean restaurants, but don't sleep on Tacos Doña Lena.

Although I opted for enchiladas rojas. Intense garlic. Rice is too salty for my personal preference. Beans good. Enchiladas also more salty than my preference. But still enjoyable. We ordered: Horchata (small for $3.49), Quesadillas with beef, Quesadillas with chicharron, Gorditas with beef, and Gorditas with chicharron. I don't like cinnamon but the horchata was addicting and it paired so well with the food. My friend got their Melon Agua Fresca and he said it was really refreshing as well. The gorditas were stuffed and they were so delicious, the cheese was melting and the bread was warm and not dry. The Quesadillas were my favorite. You put both the red sauce and the green sauce on it, a lot of lime juice, and it's perfect. I forgot to order cilantro on mine but they do give you it at no extra cost. The prices are so cheap and you get so much food. Everything is around $3 and it will fill you up. Each of us totaled out to be about $10-15 per person and we were stuffed. I would definitely come back here over and over again! There's a parking lot, but we went on the weekend, and while the interior didn't look overly full, it was somewhat difficult to find a parking spot. The restaurant itself is clean. Everything is pretty much green and white. There's covered patio seating. You can get beer, margaritas, and non-alcoholic drinks. There's also a breakfast menu The food was good, and it didn't take too long to come out. My main issue was the service. The individual taking orders seemed to have a bit of an attitude and just seemed "over it." Furthermore, we mentioned having a queso coupon and when we were given the total I placed my card on the reader and I was told that I did it too fast and the queso wasn't taken off. The odd thing was, we walked away and realized that they didn't add the queso and the coupon was for free queso so they could have just rung up an additional queso. This individual had the vibe of eye rolling everything, and it honestly left a bad taste in my mouth Some tips: You can order online to avoid any wait. Just go up to the pick-up window when it's supposed to be ready for a painless interaction There's a little bar area where you can get pre-packaged (to-go) salsas, pickled onions, limes, etc etc etc. the salsas are tomatillo, habanero, and jalapeño (I believe) You can order margaritas to go, which we did!
