This is one of my favorite Poki places HOWEVER, I gave it three stars and this is why. Most of the time if not all I have no issues and the customer service is great. I've had one complaint about how one worker or two of them give skimpy servings. The female that works there gives the tiniest portions ! Totally UNCOOL, I literally have to ask if someone else is working that day to get my money's worth or try to ask nicely to add more without being rude, or charged extra which I'm not trying to get away with or take advantage. If you don't speak up you will see for yourself as someone posted a pic which (I believe it) because it happened to me! But why should you have to tell them?They raised the prices so there shouldn't be half empty containers! It's very upsetting to be honest if you're expecting a tip which I always tip except the one time when I had this problem. Also, there is way too many homeless in this area and looks bad for business and nobody wants to feel uncomfortable. Cops are always over in this spot. read more

This place is GREAT...if you like rice and don't like raw fish they are stingy with the protein and fillings (like crab meat) and fill the bowl with rice instead. I'd highly recommend considering Wicked Poke or other establishments over this one. read more

We just returned from Maui two weeks ago. If you've never been, they have a Foodland market in Lahaina that features a deli with some of the best poke on the planet, made by real Hawaiians. So good! So addicting, we ate it many nights we were there with just crackers and beer. So when we heard Poki Poki just opened in Oceanside we just had to try it to compare. So glad we did! IMHO not quite as good as the real Hawaiian stuff but it definitely satisfied our poke cravings. On the upside you customize your own plate at Poki Poki. Ahi was fresh, so was the the shrimp and crab. The toppings and sides were tasty. We definitely will be back. Highly recommended! read more

I love this place. My girlfriend and I come here at least 3 times a week. The food is always fresh and have a good variety of toppings. For less than 9 bucks we get a big bowl of poki with a scoop of ahi tuna and scoop of yellowtail. I have been here at least 20 times the last couple months and haven't had a bad experience yet. I read a lot of reviews about their customer service and see where people are getting their bad opinions. They have a few young kids who seem stoned and/or not motivated at all. But they haven't messed up my order yet or gave me any attitude so I just ignore it. Plus they usually can have my order completed less than 1 min, so I don't mind. I also love their water they put out. They have a water cooler with fruit in it that is really refreshing. The only negative thing about this place is the seating. It only as 3 tables and about 8 bar seats. But most people get it to go so i haven't ran into the no seating problem yet. This was my first visit to a Poki Poki (the Oceanside location). They just opened another location in San Marcos, with two more locations on the way (Vista and another in Oceanside at College and Oceanside Blvd). I went in at 12:20pm, so right in the middle of lunch rush (my mistake). In summary: good customer service and the poki bowl was very good. Great variety of ingredients to mix and match to your specific tastes. While the quality of the food was good, I am not sure that the price was all that good of a value ($16 with a drink, including the extra $ for a scoop of avocado) for a quick lunch. The Good: - all the fish (I had salmon, ahi, and shrimp) all tasted fresh as did the other ingredients I chose. - the crew taking and making your order were all friendly and enthusiastic. - they have one of those 'choose your own' digital soft drink machines, so I was able to get plain seltzer water. - they have indoor and outdoor seating, with plenty of shade outside. The Bad: - the layout is really poorly planned. The order taking is at the part of the counter nearest the front door, so once there is more than 4 people in line, the entry way is blocked and makes for alot of shuffling whenever someone else enters the restaurant. Additionally, if there is a significant line (like when I arrived), the line snakes around the indoor tables and making it pretty awkward to eat with people standing right next to you. - they are definitely not staffed for peak times. Three people serving customers and one person refreshing the ingredient trays. From the time I entered to the time I received my order and paid for it was 28 minutes. There were 8 people in front of me when I arrived, 9 behind me by the time I reached the front of the line. When I finished eating, the lunch rush was over and there was basically no line. - the person refreshing the ingredients was a bit rude - not to me, but to her coworkers. I am kind of assuming she was the manager due to her age compared to the other workers and the fact that they all acquiesced to her. Basically she would cut in front of the workers to refresh a tray, which made that worker have to step aside and stop serving the customer in front of them and wait for her to finish. She could have waited the 10 seconds for them to finish that particular part of the order then they would have moved on to the next ingredient and she could do per part then - all without disrupting the service flow. The worst part is - none of the trays I saw her refill were even near one third empty. She really could have been helping the other 3 serve customers in order to make the line go faster - nothing was in danger of running empty. - lastly, when the edamame was refilled, she refilled it directly from the plastic frozen vegetable bag. I would have at least poured it into a bowl in the back instead of pouring vegetables directly from the bag in front of customers. So, even though the volume of words in the "Bad" section outweighs the "Good", I will likely try them out again, especially when the locations close to home are open. read more

They do have a tofu option for the vegans/vegetarians of the community. Everything is customizable to your taste, and the half salad/half rice option is perfect (you can choose white or brown rice). I loved the heat of the thinly sliced jalapeños and the kick of the fried garlic (like crunchy garlic pebbles). I skipped the spicy mayo in favor of the miso dressing. The fish was delicious (I had salmon, ahi and tofu). They are opening locations in Vista and San Marcos as well, so this bodes well for our North County healthier dining options. The food was very delicious, but they are getting a three star rating from me because of their service. I was super excited to try this place for the first time and already planned to come in after my 12 hour shift, which by the way...I work in San Diego. I got there 20 minutes before closing and as soon as I walked in, I called my husband to get his order. I saw the employee shoot an annoyed look to her co-worker which immediately got my attention. They build your bowl in front of you and offer a lot of variety when it comes to the toppings. Make sure you don't pass up the fried garlic, it adds a nice crunch along with a pop of flavor. I got the regular bowl with spicy tuna, salmon and shrimp. The choice of brown rice works for me! The only thing I would add is more variety when it comes to the fish marinades. Been coming to this location since they originally opened, and I was very disappointed with this visit. First the young girls behind counter were not dressed very professional and could they gossip mostly about their love life. Ordered the 3 scoops and the rice filled the bowl ¾ of the way up. In the past portions were so large, now the fish and side portions were so small, that in the past when a cover was placed the fish touched the cover now there is space between. The owner should come in and check out what is happening. Very sad, doubt I will be back will go to sister location in Encinitas, portions are large and offers a loyalty card as well. read more

Decent meal for a chipotlesque poke spot!! You get to choose your base, poke and toppings and its def worth the money for the portion you get. I would recommend getting the half and half with salad and rice so you can get a good mixture of greens, rice and poke. This place is just unbeatable. Hands down the freshest, most filling, and most delicious place to go for lunch. I feel like it gets better every time I go. It was OK, it costs more for three scoops than Poki One N Half for a regular bowl and avocado isn't free. I got a regular bowl and got everything on it except for jalapenos and the items that cost extra. I noticed the bowls are all the same size and I wasn't feeling very inspired after a couple bites in. I was really excited to come across this place on Yelp late last night. I woke up this morning with plans to try it out. I walked in and this place is super clean, the guy behind the counter was extremely friendly as well. However, I consider myself a huge food snob especially when it comes to poke. I know what a good poke bowl should taste like and consist of and once you experience greatness you should settle for less. Looking over the spread I was certain these guys would be on point. Sat down in their awkwardly quiet shop with no music or TV on... You could hear the sound from a grain of rice drop on the floor. The rice... It can make or break a poke bowl. In this case, it destroyed it. Super grainy and poor quality of rice is used, not to mention it was hot... When it should be brought to room temp prior to serving. The hot rice threw off what would have been good tasting fish... Parts of the fish were cold and others were warm. There's only ONE place I trust with Poke, and that's Yoshino in Carlsbad. Never been here? Message me! This is definitely a one star joint, but their service squeezed out one more star. read more
