Poki DC is honestly my favorite poke place in D.C. - so you can imagine how ecstatic I was to learn that one was opening around the corner from my office. The portions are extremely generous here, and the toppings include a wide variety, with two different seaweed salads as well! The fish tastes fresh and the marinades are not too overpowering, which can happen at a lot of poke places. For your base you can get white or brown rice, salad, zucchini noodles or a combination of two choices. They also offer mochi if you want a sweet treat. What makes this location even better is it shares a space with Gong Cha so you can get your bubble tea fix at the same time. I recommend the matcha milk tea, personally. To top it all off, the space itself is bright and clean, has a good amount of seating, and the service is outstanding - everyone is very friendly. This was my go to long spot when I worked nearby before switching to WFH. They're speedy, there was almost never a line even during lunch time. Half sushi rice half brown rice, marinated salmon + squid salad with avocado top with tempura & sesame seed. Each bite is a different tast when pair with different item. Sushi rice with marinated salmon give you a wasbi spicy + vinegar sour, creamy texture = avocado pair with sushi rice, pair with brown rice will give you more of a chewly bite. I liked my order from Poki DC. They did mess up my order by giving me zucchini noodles instead of spring mix but I wasn't mad. The quality of fish and the flavor made up for the order. They also were extremely fast. I ordered a bowl with marinated salmon, marinated tuna and spicy tuna. I topped it with crab and seaweed salad. I also got a Thai Iced Tea. We ate here twice during our visit to DC because it was fast, quick, healthy and delicious!

I didn't love the poke here. Usually at poke places, when you get the fish, they put all the non-marinated fish in a bowl and then you choose your sauce and they mix it with the fish. Here, they just dump everything on the rice and throw the sauce all over everything. This makes it so the rice is extremely salty and has way too much sauce in it and basically inedible. I ended up just eating all the fish and toppings and left all my rice. read more

I ordered a bowl, asked for 2 sauces - eel sauce and citrus miso. Like other reviewers said, they DRENCH the bowl in sauce. I was shook. I figured they knew what they were doing, and I'm never one to complain, so I paid for it and went on my merry way. I was just not a big fan of the bowl. The eel sauce overpowered EVERYTHING, including the citrus miso sauce. My mouth was filled with eel. I couldn't taste the protein at all to determine if it was still fresh -- it was just eel. Everything was eel. I have now transcended human form and became an eel. It's a real shame because I think Gong cha is great, and it's super convenient to have boba & poke in the same place, but I think I'll just stick to the tea for now. I really wanted to like Poki DC, but after trying it during my lunch, I wasn't really impressed. Pros: - the ability to mix and match your own stuff is a plus, unlike at Buredo. - the bowl is huge and I was able to get two portions out of this lunch. - nice seating areas and you can also get bubble tea as Gong Cha is in the same place Cons: - the fish wasn't really fresh. I got the marinated salmon and tuna poke and there was something texturally off with the tuna poke. It was too mushy compared to other tuna I've had. - the employee drenched my bowl with sauce, even when I asked for a tiny bit. It really muddled the flavors and all I could taste was spicy ponzu. It was a bit too much for me. My most recent experience wasn't great, but they could've been having an off day and just opened so I understand. I'll probably try it again in the future. read more

I visited DC in end of June and beginning of July. Came across Poki DC while walking on New York Ave and loved my first visit. So much so that I ate there a total of 3 nights out of my 4 night stay. I was a first timer but the staff was friendly and directed me well to build bowls bursting with flavor while incredibly healthy at the same time. Polite, courteous, and helpful...the staff was gracious and patient with a newbie. I did 50/50 rice and Zucchini coils as a base which worked well. I varied proteins and veggies each day to try all the flavors. Everything was super fresh, super delicious. I give this restaurant my highest recommendation and I plan on returning every time I'm in DC. read more

Things to note - this is not what I would call true poke where the focal point is the fish, you will not get a ton of fish here. But you will get an array of veggies, fresh and pickled, seaweed salads, crab salad, and fruit options. The number of tables and stools at the window ledge are limited but that makes it perfect for folks in offices.
