You'll have to know what you are looking for to find this charming husband and wife run sushi restaurant. It is both small and welcoming and the food is worth pursuing. We came in for lunch on a hot day and the homemade mint lemonade was exactly what we needed. The owner recommended the salmon sushi box as well as bibimbap. The salmon sushi was lightly seared on top, with a wasabi dressing and topped with capers. Excellent and unexpected. The mushroom tempura was perfection (I would have ordered an entire plate of that alone!). Vegetarian bibimbap was bright and flavorful, so so good. And the ramen was chock full of veggies. The ramen had veggies I am not used to in it and gave it too much of a veggie broth taste to me (peppers, broccoli). Randomly chose to eat here for a late lunch on a Thursday. 10/10 for our expectations. We were the only table so it felt like private dinning. Server also spoke Spanish, which was a plus for us. This hole in the wall is run by the sweetest older couple, who make and serve Korean-Japanese food. They were so kind taking my order and were excited that I was taking new menu pictures to share, haha. The shop itself is pretty tiny and wasn't busy at all on a weekday at lunch time. They have tables and chairs for outdoor seating when the weather gets nicer. The kimbap in particular was delicious and made to order, and I'm looking forward to trying some of their boxes in the future. Yes, the prices are a little higher than your mass market build-your-own Korean bowl, but I truly think it's worth supporting this neighborhood shop. Stopped in at lunchtime midweek and was surprised how empty the restaurant was. In the nearby area, this is definitely one of the best places to get a bento box or even just some sushi. I was seated immediately and placed my order a few minutes later. I got the bulgogi bento box. I love that there are lots of different flavors and items to taste in one meal. The bento box came out about 10-15 minutes later. The fried dumplings and tempura fried vegetables were fresh out of the fryer. I love the dressing on the salad. They had one table of four that hadn't been served yet and two other tables that were finishing their meals. Took about 5-8 minutes to get seated, ordered quickly, and their menu is outdated online. I had come specifically for a sakedon but turns out they only had bento boxes available. Took about 40 min for the food to be prepared, my miso soup was cold, and the salmon bento was mediocre and had a strong fishy taste. I had to rush to eat it since I had to get back. Definitely on the pricier side as well even with inflation. I'm sorry but three stars. read more

Meaning, it's surrounded by commercial buildings and there's this small Japanese restaurant. My parents and I got there was only one other party seated at a table. Slow on a Saturday night. We were greeted and seated right away. Ordered a couple rolls, tuna and yellow tail, jalapeno tuna popper, a Momoyama box and ramen. Food came out fairly quick. What I'm impressed the most is the quality of fish. Not fishy but totally fresh. Would definitely recommend for anyone craving fresh sushi and quick service on a weekend. read more

I came here at an unusual hour, around 2:30pm. Lunch specials were still going on - and then it goes right into happy hour at 3:30pm, so that's rad. The service was very nice, not too pushy. They had a special for tempura udon soup for $8.95 - pretty good deal, large size. I got green tea ice cream, which was pretty rich but a little frost bitten $3.50). I kept getting refills of green tea ($1.50), which was nice in the cold! My biggest beef with this place was the bathrooms, which were in the basement, through a tidy by grimy storage room. The bathroom itself smelled like SMOKE + ineffective cover up. I just felt dirty being there... Otherwise, the restaurant is cute. The wood paneling is nice. Apparently they used to have amazing happy hour specials but that was under previous ownership. They are applying for a new liquor license so who knows what they'll offer, but for now you're just going here for sushi and Asian food. This place was dead on a Friday night but I'm guessing that will change when they get their license back so be warned this place is on the small side. This place is hard to find the first time so trust your GPS or hire a sherpa guide. I'm no sushi expert but did order the bulgogi box. This contained a large serving of tasty beef with a ton of white rice (I picked out the broccoli but that's personal preference), seaweed (sounds weird but a little rubbery and not bad), pretty good salad with ginger dressing, tempura (a little too greasy for me), and enjoyable California rolls. Sans happy hour specials, meals ran $15-20 but it was so much food I couldn't finish it all. This wasn't the best Asian food I've ever tried but a solid and not too crowded option, in a hard to find location, and I'll be back here. read more

I love this place and come for lunch once a month. Service is good, food is excellent and pretty fast, there's always seating. I usually get hot green tea and one of the lunch box specials which also comes with miso soup. Occasionally we get moochi for dessert. Good place to have a 1:1 lunch business meeting. Nice cute little place - environment is good and all but their food portion and presentation is PATHETIC! We ordered a Chirashi (assorted sashimi over rice) and a salmondon (salmon sashimi over rice). First off, those pathetically thin slices of sashimi are laughable. Especially the salmon sashimi - so thin they looked like trimmings, like the chef was going to throw them away but changed her mind and ended up over my rice. Then the portion. Both bowls had 1/3 inch thick of rice spreaded at the bottom of the bowl and they charged $3 for additional little scoop of rice. This restaurant is strangely located in what feels like a back alley, yet it is clearly in the downtown area right next to the Department of Labor. It is located next to two bars which were doing fairly good business last night with the unseasonably warm weather. Momoyama, however, did not benefit from this in anyway. In the entire I was there, a 2-top disbanded, and a couple came in for takeout. Grim for a Friday night. And yet, this is a really good sushi place! A gem in DC! I will have to revel in my find. I ordered the sushi deluxe and had their house hot sake. The sushi dinner is served with both miso and salad which is a first for me. The miso had a nice dark broth which isn't so common, but the taste was unremarkable for me; but I find that usually to be the case with miso unless the tofu is prepared on-site. The sushi dinner was very large and filling and had a nice diverse selection of fish. The salmon, eel, and tuna were real standouts. I also really enjoyed the inside-out rolls -- they were especially tasty. Additionally a handroll of tuna with a spicy sauce was served which was very hot and just wonderful. I was very pleased with this. I capped off the dinner with red bean ice cream, but that was just okay. Much better red bean ice cream can be had at Kanoyama in New York. The decor was very simple, but I just felt very relaxed here and managed to have a pretty nice time. The service was very attentive and good. I think this is as good as sushi gets in DC.
