Have been craving poke for a while and decided to try this place out for the first time. Overall, poke was great! I got salmon and tuna for protein and these tasted fresh. I love that you can get unlimited toppings and the ones I got tasted fresh and of good quality. My main reason for knocking off a star was whoever made the white rice needs to reevaluate their rice to water ratio cause it was so mushy that I felt like eating it brought dishonor to my ancestors (and this was just the rice itself, without sauce). Unfortunately, since it's the base, the sad rice detracted from the rest of the bowl. Hopefully this was just a one time thing and the next batch of white rice is better. Another suggestion would be maybe having a smaller size. I got the regular and this was huge and I couldn't finish it. Service was also okay. Hands down one of my favorite poke spots in the DMV! I don't usually venture all the way out to Bethesda, but after receiving 5+ rave reviews from my friends, I just had to make my way up north. The poke was delightful -- super fresh ingredients, delicious fish, and plenty of fun pre-made or custom options available. The menu / selection was quite standard, but you can tell that they really invested in having super high-quality ingredients. The staff was generally super friendly and very accommodating of allergies / dietary restrictions, switching gloves / wiping down surfaces as needed and explaining what was / wasn't safe to eat. The space itself was also fun -- it's a fast-casual spot, so the restaurant was rather utilitarian, but they managed to make even the no-frills vibe quite cozy with the dimmed lighting, dark wood furniture, and giant shelf of Asian snacks. I didn't consider myself a poke fan. It just never sounded that good to me. But on a day with limited options I tried it and it was really delious. I got the small build your own bowl with brown rice, salmon and shrimp. It was plenty of food, don't get a premade bowl unless you are able to take it home and refrigerate it, because they are larger. I don't like raw fish! So, why am I here? My wife and I planned to be in Bethesda, and she loves poke bowls. So, she's the reason. :) I looked for a highly rated poke bowl restaurant and found that this place is directly linked to Kusshi Sushi. We love the dishes at Kusshi Sushi. I assumed that the quality of food here would be similar, and it was! We got 2 "Build Your Own" bowls. That way, we get what we like, and I avoid raw fish. If you don't want to build your own bowl, then you can pick from a list of signature bowls. Those bowls have preselected ingredients. Build your own bowl starts with a choice of bowl size. Each size comes with a certain number of scoops of protein. They have regular, large, extra large, and no protein. We picked large. That came with 3 scoops. You can get more scoops for an extra charge. The build order continues as follows: proteins, toppings, sprinkles, and sauces. You can pick more than one type of everything. Some choices have an extra charge. Those are zucchini noodles, avocado, and masago (fish roe). My wife's bowl had brown rice, marinated tuna, spicy tuna, spicy salmon, cucumbers, carrots, edamame, red onions, cilantro, crispy onion, sesame seeds, furikake, wasabi aioli, and sesame dressing. It was SPICY! Less wasabi aioli next time. There were more than enough chunks of fish. The quality was good. They were soft, not mushy. There was no bad smell or taste. The bowl was flavorful, but the fish flavors were prominent. Everything looked and tasted fresh. It was a raw fish lover's paradise. My wife loved it! It was good enough that I could eat it. And I really dislike raw fish! My bowl had spring mix, garlic shrimp, carrots, cucumbers, edamame, pickled ginger, red onions, scallions, cilantro, crispy onion, crispy garlic, tempura flakes, sesame seeds, rice puffs, furikake, wasabi aioli, eel sauce, and sesame dressing. The garlic shrimp was tender and delicious. The bowl was bursting with flavor. Every taste sensation was there - sweet, sour, salty, bitter, savory, spicy, and fatty. I removed the pickled ginger because it was very strong in ginger flavor which was somewhat bitter. This bowl was incredibly well-rounded. Thanks to Poke Dojo for all the great ingredients! FYI, eel sauce contains soy sauce, sugar, mirin, and sake. It was sweet, salty, and savory with a touch of smokiness from caramelization. I'm glad they have it! It's called eel sauce because it is commonly used in Japanese cooking to glaze eel. The service was knowledgeable, helpful, patient, and polite. We were guided through the process smoothly. All questions were answered well. A great service experience! The dining room and restroom were clean. They have one restroom for customers. There were only 13 seats in a small dining room. Parking is available at Colonial Parking garage or Bethesda Elm Street garage. Both have hourly rates. Bethesda Elm Street garage is free on Sunday. Colonial Parking has the closest access with an elevator. If you're looking for poke bowls with quality ingredients, then this place should be on your list. read more

We have ordered from here before and it was really good in the past. I don't have a problem with the quality of the food, but they really, bizarrely messed up my order. There were parts of what I ordered - there was sushi rice, tuna, carrots - but I had ordered salmon in addition to tuna, avocado, cilantro, seaweed salad, edamame, pickled ginger, crispy garlic, and ponzu sauce. Didn't get any of that, but I did get lots of mango, red onion, and aioli sauce. Maybe some other stuff I didn't order. They stuck a printed receipt on the bag, with what I had ordered spelled out correctly. It didn't describe what was in the bag. If I hadn't already driven home I could have obviously sent it back and maybe they would have fixed it. Tried to use the "Get Order Help" link online, which just gave me a phone number. I've been to the brick and mortar in Bethesda, but I've mostly had poke from their food truck. Happy that the truck is back out and about! I got a bowl at the farmers market today, and it's just as good as I remember it! The sushi rice has a great flavor. A little sticky and chewy without being mushy. The greens are chopped enough so you can take a normal bite without looking like a rabbit hitting a lettuce jackpot! The fish is always great texture and flavor! I love all the toppings, but beware! This is my second time trying this place in Bethesda. Today I ordered One of their signature bowls: Lava Bowl. It came with plenty of tuna and shrimp. It was tasty, fresh and seemed healthy. I like Bethesda area in general especially the location of this restaurant. So I'm going to be a little partial towards this place. Having said that, it is still pretty consistent. Never too empty not crowded. There is a parking garage nearby or you can use the metered parking on the street which might be a little difficult to get. Store interior itself isn't great but there is comfortable seating area in front. It's like the chipotle of poke. But in a good way. read more

I was excited to see zoodles on the menu which I did half Spring mic & half zucchini noodles. Zoodles are 1.59 extra and avocado $2 extra. The best part about this place is that they have a wide range of Japanese snacks to choose from which I've never seen flavors in the states, e.g. shrimp flavored Doritos? Very good poke! The spicy tuna is actually not just Maryland spicy which was a pleasant surprise. Everything in my bowl was great, except they need to care for their avocados better; when my husband asked for avocado on his bowl it came out very black... which caused me to skip it. If you're going to charge $2 to add avocado, do the lemon juice trick and keep it fresh. The only other thing odd was that every other poke place I've been to, imitation crab doesn't count as one of the chargeable proteins -- it's usually included with the freebie toppings. I skipped it lest my bowl get too pricy. The garlic shrimp + spicy tuna combo was nice. Hubby didn't like some of the crispy toppings, said they were a little stale. I didn't add any so mine was just fine. A soda fountain would be a good addition here, they have various sugary drinks (Ramune, Kona coffee) in a cooler but nothing sugar free except water as far as I could tell. But, overall, I greatly enjoyed my bowl and it is easy to park here on the weekends so hopefully will come often. read more

The indoor seating is currently closed due to COVID-19. Regarding COVID-19 safety, the staffs properly wear their masks and use gloves. I normally pile on all of the toppings because -- well, why not? The more the merrier, haha. I don't quite know what some of the toppings are, to be honest, but I love trying new things, so I was open to trying everything. The style of dining is similar to Chipotle, which you choosing your base, the type of meat/seafood, and adding toppings on top. They also have an adorable snack section where you can buy some Asian goodies. My "go-to" base is half white rice/half brown rice with spicy tuna and/or salmon. You can mix and match, which is what I love about Poke Dojo. It's definitely well worth the money. The food usually lasts me two meals since I order so many toppings. read more

Honestly, the main reason that I tried out this place is that they participate in American Airlines Dining point program, and with COVID I needed to find a way to keep my miles active so I can use them whenever the world has calmed down a bit. I was first introduced to poke in Hawaii, so I've had the real deal, and this stuff is pretty good. I had two varieties of tuna in my bowl (spicy and marinated) and both had excellent flavor. There are a wide variety of bases for the bowls, and they're willing to adjust (I asked for half rice). They're also willing to put any of the sauces on the side so you can season and flavor your bowl exactly how you want it! I really appreciated this, because I wasn't sure how spicy the spicy tuna would be (its definitely spicy) and wanted to have the ability to balance it out if needed. There was no one in the restaurant when I ordered so the process was very quick and easy. I didn't notice a menu, but I had looked over the menu online so I knew what I wanted. The only suggestion I have for improvements has to do with the physical store--not the food! Right now they have the options for bases, proteins, toppings, sauces, etc written on the plexiglass that divides you from the staff preparing your food. It was hard to read. Having them printed and posted somewhere, or even written somewhere with a dark background, would make it much easier to read through the options if one hasn't gone over the menu online first. My wife and I received a coupon for $7 off your $15 meal so decided to make Poke Dōjō our COVID mission. We ordered on their website and surprisingly it said our order would be ready in 4 minutes. I went with the brown rice bowl with shrimp and spicy mayo. The website limits you to two sauces which kinda stinks because I love trying them all. For my toppings I did all things crunchy such as ginger, crispy garlic, and scallions. After the first bite I knew I had put together something great. My only regret was adding edamame, which for reason had a strange texture to them. Poke Dōjō is a great addition to Bethesda Row and is an excellent option for poke bowls on the go. Personally this meal reminded me of the wonders of Shophouse and the whirlwind of flavors it delivered. read more

It's a bit like how Chipotle conducts their business where you order your ingredients down and across the counter. Poke in general is a bit on the pricier side but I think Poke Dojo sets their bowls at a very reasonable price ($10, $12, $14 --for 2, 3 or 4 protein choices). I decided to visit 2 days ago to grab a 3 protein-choice bowl and chose their spicy tuna, salmon and garlic shrimp. I wasn't too fond of their extra charges on Avocado and other ingredients but I think it's worth it. Went here for lunch on a Friday afternoon in February. There was no line and I got helped right away. There's a huge variety of bases and ingredients. I chose the lava bowl that included tuna, salmon, and shrimp. The marinades that the fish were soaked in were delicious and the temperatures and consistencies of the fish were perfect. Really solid poke place with huge portions. This may actually be the biggest poke bowl I've ever received. I've only been here once so far, so I'm not sure if this was an anomaly, but they didn't skimp on the proteins whatsoever; there were large chunks of salmon and tuna in my bowl. The quality of the fish isn't the best I've had but the large portions made up for it. What also stood out the most was their extra ripe and tender mango pieces. I'm used to hard raw mangos that are far from their peak ripeness. All in all, biggest perks of this place are the large fish portion and delicious mango pieces. I don't really understand the $3 open...[something]...fee that was attached to my bill for the can of Kona Coffee that I purchased. While there were no cold cans in the display fridge, the staff gave me a can from an unopened flat. This location is located within walking distance from the Bethesda Metro stop on the Red line. I want to love it here. I've ordered from here several times but it is never perfect. Maybe I need to go into the store and order instead of relying on DoorDash. The one time I did go into the store I placed a few orders for myself and others and had the orders in my phone but they were not written in the order the line is set up (my bad). The employee was definitely frustrated that he was going back and forth because I didn't want to go out of order and miss something on an order . Think of chipotle but starting with rice then salsa instead of meat. ‍ The food is great. I've never had any issues with the quality of the food or fish. I get a medium bowl and it is definitely a full and satisfying meal. I'm just leaving three stars because it is very inconsistent and there are always small things wrong. When I say small things, I mean there's red onion when I didn't order red onion, no ginger when I ordered ginger, sauce on it when I ordered it on the side. None of these things are awful but it happens pretty much every time. The second piece is the inconsistency of each order. I order basically the same thing each time. As an example, sometimes there is a literal ton of fish, sometimes there is way less. The pieces of fish are occasionally too large to eat comfortably in a single bite, sometimes they are more normal sized. I received at least a full cup of edamame in my most recent order and had giant chunks of cucumber. In the past, I've received a more normal amount of edamame and cucumbers were a more average size. Again nothing is terrible and I do enjoy the food I just wish it were more consistent each time we ordered. That said, we'll be back but maybe make more of an effort to pickup when possible so we are there when it is being made. read more

Ordered take out from here and everything came as ordered but it was a mess. Both containers were leaking and there was fairly a good amount of liquid in the plastic bag. This was a good problem I guess since it meant the bowls were completely full and wouldn't close. However, because they were so full, it was hard to mix everything around and I took a HUGE bite of just jalapeños. Now, I get it's supposed to be spicy. But as a TOPPING, I feel like I got a huge scoop versus a sprinkling. It was really unpleasant to eat. I ended up picking them out. Other than that, everything else was good. Spicy tuna was good and not fishy. Shrimp and crab meat were okay. Spring mix and rice were good and all the toppings, especially the crunchy ones, were yummy. The ingredients were placed beautifully in the bowl, showcasing lots of colors. However, I felt as though the ingredients were not fresh. My mangos were extremely hard and inedible. Ingredients were very fresh and I liked that they included a lot of seaweed salad as well. For $13.50 I thought it was a good value. Next time I would probably order a small (2 scoops of protein), but I also like the fact that they offer a "baby" size (1 scoop). The interior is pretty basic, but I liked the fact that they have bar seating along the wall and windows for those sitting down for a quick lunch before heading back to the office. It was tough to rate this place. In California, this would be a 2 star at best. In Bethesda, I suppose it's a 3 star due to the lack of poke options. First off, they only have 3 types of fish: tuna, salmon, and shrimp. You can get the tuna and salmon either plain, marinated, or spicy. I got the spicy tuna and marinated salmon. The salmon did not taste fresh and not a ton of flavor. The tuna was fine but not memorable. The veggie options were fine, but again didn't taste that fresh. Sauce options were minimal. Very forgettable but if you want a quick option for poke in Bethesda, it's serviceable. read more
