    Tonkatsu Bento Box

Been coming here for 5 years and it's always a treat. So happy they brought back dining inside. Quality is great and service is fast! This time I ordered the Tonkatsu Bento Box for dinner and it was presented lovely. The restaurant also has a section for Japanese groceries and goods.

Now open for limited seats dine-in w/ new menu, a bit pricy especially when they don't offer typical restaurant full services. Seafood quality & selections are better than other Japanese sushi restaurants offer, but still not feel worth the upcharge. Will only repeat when they switch back pre-Covid interior setup & services!

    Chirashi!

Tako Grill moved from Wisconsin Avenue to Hampden Lane but the food is still great. I got two bowls of chirashi and the fish was top notch, a good variety layered atop sweetly seasoned rice. Fresh fish and perfectly cooked rice, a winning combination - I'm not a big fan of the imitation crab sticks but other than that this place is in the competition for the best sushi on Rockville Pike, even if they've moved to a new location deep within Bethesda.

This is the new location for Tako Grill. It's smaller than the old location but still has a similar set up. The menu is the same with my favorite, the soft shell crab maki. This time eating there I also enjoyed the agedofu, and the gyouza were really wonderful. I've eaten at the old location many times, and this place is solid. Many Japanese people consider this to be one of the best real Japanese restaurants in the DC area. There is a Japanese chef. Parking is annoying and expensive at this new location though.

Two unagi & rainbow roll, pieces about 1" across ~275 calories ... eel unagi ~$3.5-4 a piece, rainbow sushi ~$12 for a roll 8 pieces, pricey

I ordered the rainbow roll and two eel unagi... the size of the order was disappointing, and it felt pricey. We spent about $25-30 between the two of us but our dishes totaled about 650 calories or less... I left feeling hungry and with not enough energy to think about playing a racquet sport, which was part of my original plan after lunch. My change of plans included looking for other places with food. I saw a family of five ordering a sushi boat. Their boat prices are about $80 or more.

Pretty decent and fresh sushi! I got dinner at Tako Grill in Oct 2017 and ordered the poke bowl. It would have been nicer if the fish was seasoned better, as the dish was a bit bland, but it was definitely healthy and both the fish and avocado were great. I also liked the large poke chip! Yum! Overall, this was pretty solid food and it was inexpensive (under $10). I'd definitely visit again.

Sashimi lunch (with rice, miso soup, salad) - $17.50

The lunch pricing isn't very competitive, but the sushi was good and I wouldn't mind coming back here. Two of us stopped by for a weekday lunch and were seated immediately. My friend ordered 2 maki rolls a la carte and I ordered the sashimi lunch. The maki rolls each came with 6 pieces but were pretty disappointing in size, especially since they cost around $10 total. My sashimi lunch came with miso soup and salad and generous cuts of sashimi that left me stuffed. I wouldn't mind coming back here, but I'd stick to Gaithersburg/Rockville for better value for sushi.

Not bad! First time here. Ok ambiance. Good for date nights or family dinner. Priced ok. Service was good. Food was good.

I'd recommend Raku as long as you don't mind a crowded place!

Raku is an Asian fusion restaurant and have some verity of Asians menus that's nice things about here. Their popular coconuts curry noodles soup is from Thai or Vietnamese coconuts curry, and not as spicy as authentic Thai or Vietnamese ones so It's easy to eat. You can choose from 3 type of noodles and different soup - curry or simple broth. It's probably better choice here than their sushi for my preference. If we just want Sushi in near Bethesda area, Sushiko in Chavy Chase is good. When we crave for Authentic sushi we just go to authentic Japanese restaurants ( some Michelin stars "Sushi Taro" in DC ) that is truly authentic quality. I also go to other one for sushi ( "Love Sushi Makoto" in DC ) I know that's not even comparable category as those restaurants offers authentic real foods by Japanese owner and chef, and ingredients are real from Japan. I know It's not fair to compare to Asian fusion restaurant like Raku or typical local sushi places that other Asian or American own the place. Raku is very reasonably priced as it should be for actual ingredients. Price stays reasonable that makes this place a popular spot too. I have to be honest their miso soup tastes no real authentic favor to me. But Raku is definitely better choice of quality foods overall compare to other Asian restaurants in Bethesda. Sushi chefs and waitresses are asian and none of them are Japanese and that is ok as most of Sushi chefs and Sushi restaurants in USA the workers are not Japanese anyways. It is actually hard to find Sushi restaurants that owned by Japanese with real Japanese chefs and waitresses and staff in USA. They sometimes says welcome "irasshai" in some Japanese greeting ( that's only used in restaurant setting ) with their wrong accent that is cute to me:) Bethesda is a cute little town and Bethesda row is just like a corner cute village with surrounded by basic restaurants and cafes, normal shops, nothing luxury really, but safer and quiet, clean little town. Neighbors enjoy to go out to restaurants including this Raku as easy to access from near suburbs housing area, so my friends does and walking distance from their houses. This restaurant set small tables very close to next seat and there's very small bar that space is limited, that's as why it's always filled up and crowded. It's uncomfortable and no privacy, I wish they make space between next seats. Except winter, they offer outside seats and dog friendly that's a bonus for dog lovers.

Absolutely floored by the fatty tuna sushi roll. It is on the pricier side, but honestly, I don't think I even minded. We got the katsu and sashimi combo plus some rolls on the side. The katsu was delicious, and the sashimi was super fresh. The combo also came with the cutest little side dishes, really adorable presentation overall. I usually order tonkotsu and am hesitant to try others since the broth makes all the difference but I ordered the shoyu ramen this time and it was delicious! I also ordered the house black tea with boba and cheese foam which was also oishii! I appreciated that they had brewed tea options since often find milk tea to be too much with food. The pork broth is standout, but I absolutely dream about the spider ramen. Named for the fried softshell on the top (which you can ask to swap for more shrimp), has a tom yum-like flavor. Creamy, spicy and slightly acidic, the broth could be poured on cardboard and I would eat it. Noodles are always perfect and the seafood is present, but not a huge portion - so you can focus on the broth. My only complaint? The lobster broth in the spider ramen dish is not listed as an option for the "make your own" bowl...which would allow me to perfectly customize it. I will regularly order the spider bowl in the meantime with no softshell, extra shrimp, and if I'm feeling down additional noodles and broth (allowing me to indulge for multiple meals) . Bubble tea is tasty - especially the rose milk tea. This place has a counter with a handful of seats and two tables for 4-6. After waiting for a table, we decided to mostly do takeout. We can order online. Would be great if they had a spot out front for takeout pickup as parking around the restaurant can be hard at times.
