    Spicy Salmon Roll
    Tracy R.

I had a craving for sushi and checked uber eats and they had a buy one get one free deal on a few items! We took advantage of the bogo deal and chose the sashimi appetizer (salmon, yellowtail, and tuna) and the spicy salmon roll. All of the fish were so fresh and tasty. We also grabbed an avocado salad which comes with ginger dressing. In my opinion, the dressing is a bit on the sweeter side and would have preferred less so. Definitely a winner in my book for quick service that's dependable regarding freshness and taste!

Such good sushi, poke, etc. There's a lot on the menu and for not super pricey either.

Nothing sushi wise has been good here unfortunately. I tried the spider roll this time and the lettuce they put in it plus the soft shell crab just turns the whole thing into mush.

Average fare. There are 3 restaurants when your enter, one was closed the day we visited. There's seating inside at regular tables, bars along the windows, higher tables, and floor sitting (low tables and padded cushions) on a raised dais. There also outdoor seating, if I remember correctly only about 4 tables, but I wasn't really paying attention, there might be a few more. What we got: Gyudon - 4* I wish it had a bit more sauce so all of my rice could have some, but other than that it was fantastic. Tonkotsu - 3* average. I've definitely had better and was very disappointed with this one. The curry that comes with it though is a solid 5*. They also messed up our order on this one and gave us the other tonkatsu bowl, the one that also comes with fried pork (3.5*) and shrimp tempura (3.5*). That miftve worked out in or favor though as the tonkotsu just wasn't that good and it was nice to have other options. Chicken and cabbage dumplings - 3*. We got them fried, and I think in the future I would get them steamed. Are too fried, almost like fried food instead of crispy fried which is what pan fried is supposed to be. The dumplings are also on the smaller side so before you get excited about the amount of dumplings (12, not a measley 6 or 8) keep in mind that your basically paying for the same amount of filling as you would at another place and getting more skin. The dipping sauce though... That deserves 5*. Miso soup - 4* solid soup base.

I always get the curry when I come here. I like how the veggies in the curry are soft and flavorful. Their kaarage is super moist and tender, all my friends enjoy it. The shrimp tempura is generously portioned, I couldnt finish it.

The Spot Mini is set up really differently from the location in Rockville. They still have Poki DC and Gong Cha, but Mian, Alpaca, and the fried chicken place are not there. Instead, they have ramen and sushi items with a few chicken items. I've had their Chicken curry, sushi, Poki, and bubble tea before. Their food is good, but it does take a while for them to prepare. On the other hand, they're super quick with their bubble tea orders (much faster than Kung Fu Tea honestly). Sadly though, they don't do the rewards program other Gong Cha locations have.

Accepts cash and credit card. Does offer delivery service. Dine in and carry out. Imagine the usual Spot in Rockville, but smaller. This place offers decent food selections from bubble tea, sushi, dumplings and other dishes. They offer pretty good sushi selections. From salmon avocado roll, spicy tuna, Philly roll, eel roll, spicy shrimp roll and much more. The food quality is very fresh. Their sushi combos comes with a side of salad or miso soup (your choice). They also serve bubble tea (Gong cha) here. Tons of selections and you can customize your order from ice level, sweet level, etc. We also ordered their steam dumpling. Packaging was good especially since we ordered take out. Dumplings have tons of filling and meat to wrapper ratio was decent. If you are in the area, worth giving this place a try.

Crème brûlée strawberry latte with strawberry pearls!!! (you can ask for 1/2 the sugar)
    Scott E.

With her best friend Casey having just accepted an invitation for both of them to attend a slumber party with four four-star athletes from the Public School 20 Anna Silver Girls Volleyball Team, Lunella Lafayette, the peer-pressure-sensitive teenage alter-ego of Moon Girl, searches desperately for an excuse to back out. But what if, instead of a slumber party, it was a Poke bowl and Bubble Tea party; and it was held in close proximity to the University of Maryland, at 4209 Knox Road in College Park, at a place called The Spot Mini? Would the nearby Research One institution assuage Lunella's nerves? Would the thought of her very own "Crème brûlée strawberry latte with strawberry pearls" override her ill-conceived impulse to invent a telepathic mind-reading device to ensure that she doesn't say or do anything she regrets? How about her very own Poke bowl with a half and-half base of brown rice with quinoa and organic spring mix; spicy tuna, spicy salmon and avocado egg salad; pickled radish, cucumber, Japanese ginger, green onion, masago, edamame, seaweed salad, drizzled with honey wasabi and toasted sesame sauces; with significant patches of Bonito fish flakes, roasted seaweed, garlic crisps, sesame seeds, and onion crisps? Both sure hit the spot for my wife, whose Tony Stark-level intellect never prevents her from being the life of any party.

I order here so often, it's ridiculous! From the Poke bowls, appetizers, to the bubble tea, everything is good here, so you can't go wrong. I also order sushi from time to time and it's just as good and fresh. Whether I feel like picking it up or getting delivery, the quality of the food doesn't change either, which is really important to me as well.

Not a good Beef Teriyaki bento box
    Karen Y.

This place is okay and definitely caters to a college-crowd. Quite pricey for the quality of taste and I wouldn't really come here unless I had to. I typically visit for Gongcha (which is always super consistent) but everything else is meh. There isn't any long-term parking for this spot so be mindful of that. I would have to say avoid the teriyaki bento boxes. They are not a vibe, water-downed miso, and overly sweet teriyaki whose only flavor profile is pure soy sauce. Wasn't a fan of the salad either. Come for the drinks at gongcha but skip on the food.

Vegetation bento ( it comes with California rolls and you are not able to sub them for vegetables rolls)
    Tymeia T.

The staff here are friendly. The place was clean. I wanted a vegetarian option and opted for the vegetable teriyaki Bento box. Sadly two of the items in the bento box were meat proteins and we could not sub it out. We had to pay extra just to get the sushi without meat. They could've easily given us a cucumber roll or and avocado roll ( which are already in the California roll just minus the meat) . Overall to me the flavor wasn't there. I had to get extra sauce for the teriyaki vegetables because the water from inside the vegetables watered the sauce down which wasn't a biggie. I loved the vegetable choice that was in the bento box ( zucchini, mushrooms, asparagus). If you do not eat tofu make sure to ask them to make it without so that you can enjoy your meal. The drinks were really tasty. Overall it was a good amount of food. I had to give it three stars because of the menu inconvenience and the up charge for the perceived vegetarian option. I would go back.

It took a few minutes for someone to come to the register but I wasn't in a rush so I waited quietly. The kitchen looked very clean and well organized. The floors were clean (no sticky shoes noises here) and that's always a good sign in my book. I was told it would be about 10 minutes. I ordered the chicken hibachi and 2 vegetable spring rolls. I didn't check out the restrooms but they are available for customers. I don't blame the establishment but I wrongly assumed the fried rice would be Japanese style. When I got back to work and saw the rice...I understood why he asked if I wanted yum yum sauce. It was definitely catered to DMV carry out standards. The spring rolls were a tad greasy for my liking.

While we waited we asked questions about the food on the hot bar and the lady that was tending to that didn't understand a single word of English and I struggle translating Spanish words in the correct order to make a sentence. LoL! I know the words but can't put them in the right order so there was a language barrier happening here. LoL! Some of the food on the hot bar looked like it had been sitting for quite some time under the lamp and it looked very dried out. I ordered the beef teriyaki, my husband ordered the chicken / beef / shrimp teriyaki, and our daughter had the chicken teriyaki. We ordered extra Yum Yum sauce to go with it. I didn't taste everyone else's this time because I was hyper focused on mine. The Beef Teriyaki was bland. There was no flavor until I dipped the beef in the Yum Yum Sauce. I asked for steam white rice and I received fried rice. Long review short, I didn't eat this because I'm going to have to add some seasonings from home to hype it up for it to be good. My husband on the other hand enjoyed his dish because of the shrimp. Our daughter ate a big portion of hers. She didn't say whether or not she liked it. 2.5 Stars.

We have been familiar with the area for years, as my father-in-law lived 3 minutes away, and recently we realized this was his go-to carryout. After 3 visits, I can say it's one of the best in the DMV, thanks to its flavor and food choices. You will find Japanese options like sushi, American-Chinese dishes like orange chicken, similar dishes, and Cantonese food like roast duck, Hong Kong-style noodle soups, and whole fish. They are family-owned and operated. Every time we come, the elder father is always gracious and provides excellent service. The restaurant is always quiet; you can hear conversations in the back, and as customers arrive to pick up their orders, we haven't witnessed any negative interactions. Customers are always happy with their food, and the staff say thank you. The only negative is the space. The building itself is older and outdated. In the summer, it is hot, and now in the winter, there is no heat. They have found ways to make it work, like space heaters on each table, but it can still get uncomfortable if you are dining in. The back area near the bathroom and the bathroom itself need a thorough cleaning. To me, it's a turnoff; it doesn't affect the food, but it does affect the dine-in experience. Again, overall, I love their food and believe it's a local gem worth a try.
