Trying to get a couple of food badges including Korean BBQ. I was here twice with my g/f at the time in Winter 2020. The first time was on Thursday, January 30, 2020. She had suggested going to hot pot. It was very good, but I felt the price was high, and was annoyed by having to pay for the parking although they validated but may have been a partial validation; I don't recall. It was still a cool experience, but my negatively spoiled what might've been a good date for us. Then, on Thursday, February 20, 2020, I was sick and was at IKEA taking something back. All dishes were like small portion tapas. I recommend ordering a few dishes at a time. Do not order too much because there is penalty for wasted food. Came here for the first time for lunch on a weekend with a friend. We ordered the AYCE hotpot with 3 broths- Tom yum, mushroom, and rejuvenation herb broth. Total per person came out to approximately $22 (without tip). What's hot - Quality. The broths were well-seasoned and flavored, not overly salty. All the dishes we ordered were fresh, especially the veggies. All the meats were pre-frozen, which is not a bad thing, especially as you're cooking it. - Menu variety. Something for everyone- meats, seafood, veggies and for vegans. You have to order the specific dishes you want. They have enoki mushrooms, fish tofu, lobster balls, bak choy, enoki mushrooms, lotus root, winter melon, daikon, chicken, angus steak, etc. The list goes on. You don't take the food from a buffet line, which appears to help them reduce food waste. They have a sauce bar, which is where you can choose from a variety of sauces- soy sauce, garlic, sa cha, peanut sauce, jalapeños, green onions, etc.... - Portions. Given that there were only 2 of us, they did a good job of providing us with decent size portions and we were always able to finish what we ordered. We pretty much finished everything. - Price. For the variety and quality of food, it's pretty good value for money. - Service. Pretty decent. As we finished up our dishes, the same waiter would always come by and ask us if there were additional dishes we would like to order. As such, we weren't waiting very long for our next dishes to be served. - Location. Easy to find and it's close to other amenities, like a cafe. - Parking. There is a parking lot within/behind the complex and it's about 3 levels. What's not - Service. It's not always easy to flag someone down and get what you need, so be patient. For example, we had to make the same requests a few times and our broths were boiling down and it took a while for someone to fill up our broths again. I was also surprised we weren't given spoons with our dishes. - Time limit. They have signs that you're given a 90 minute time limit to finish your meal. I appreciate they want to keep the customer line rolling and avoid lengthy wait times. However, it made my friend nervous to make sure we weren't staying too long, because she didn't want us to get kicked out. Makes me wonder if they ever have kicked out customers, which would be rude, especially given the nature of eating hot pot. At the very least, it's something to be aware of. - Parking. I didn't originally know there's a parking lot in the complex, so I parked somewhere close by and walked. I'm kind of glad I didn't park in the parking lot, because the spaces are very tight. This is a great spot! We came in for hot pot on a Friday night around 6 pm and were seated immediately. It wasn't terribly busy and the service was excellent. Our server took our orders with a tablet and all of the food came quickly. We ordered all you can eat hot pot with 3 broths - Szechuan spicy, tomato, and rejuvenation and for $5 per person, all you can eat sushi. For the sushi, we ordered a few pieces of sashimi each and 3 rolls to share. They were pretty good but you really are paying for the hot pot. We ordered soo many rounds of meats, fish, and vegetables. I can't remember everything we ordered but my favorites were black pork, lobster balls, lotus root, pork belly, and angus beef. The broths were all very good. The tomato added a lot of flavor to some of the meats. The rejuvenation is milder but I enjoyed it. The Szechuan was also really good but it's super spicy, so don't get it if you're a spice wimp. For a hot pot place in College Park, this place is awesome. First, their broth. I don't remember quite what it is called, but we got the bone broth or something like that. Definitely a broth that has some creaminess in it and it was so flavorful. It had a full piece of beef bone in it which made it seem so much more authentic. Next, the sauce bar. For the most part it had everything you needed. When I went there was some stuff missing, but nothing I couldn't live without. If you pile on the garlic in your sauce anything will be good. The meat was pretty decent. Good amount of red meat choices, some fish, and some other seafood options like scallops. Anything with the word fatty was fantastic. As you cook the meat in the broth the more flavorful it became. They had a decent selection of vegetables, but I felt like there could have been more, but it had mostly what I wanted. Took our 1st year Maryland Terp here for her birthday dinner. It is located in College Park Maryland. There is limited free parking in the back of the restaurant. The lot was full, so we parked at the Lidl's across the street. Although it was busy, we were able to get a table within a few minutes. The restaurant was large and roomy. They had tables for both individual or shared hot pots. Since my younger daughter had food allergies, we got a table with individual hot pot stations. The menu AYCE menu was extensive. The dinner options included an appetizer menu. Compared to other AYCE hot pot restaurants, La TAO offers a variety of quality meat choices such as Angus steak, black pork, and lamb. One also has the option to add AYCE sushi for an additional $5. Our server was excellent. She checked on us often to take additional orders, refill our waters, or refill the broth. My only complaint was that it seemed louder than the usual hot pot restaurant. Because all the tables were very close together, it felt like I was back in a school cafeteria again. Thank goodness, there was no eardrum blasting K-pop music in the background. Pro tip, pay cash and get 10% discount. LaTao has an interesting menu / model, as it combines the traditional 'all you can eat hot pot' with an all you can eat sushi buffet. For dinner, either one is about $30, and you can combine the two for an additional $5 -- or, as I thought of it, for $5, you can add all you can eat sushi to your all you can eat hot pot meal. That's a pretty good deal. A little bit oddly, though, you have to order the sushi from the waiter -- there's not a sushi buffet or anything of the sort, which I guess would imply that it's fresher. Still, it's a little off putting to have your gluttony judged by the waiter -- it's like, "Give me 10 of everything, please." The sushi is about what you'd expect for an all you can eat sushi place, and I don't think I'd go back just for it, though I would certainly get it again. It's not the best, not the freshest, but it's not bad -- it's a lot better than you'd get from a grocery store, you know? But, ultimately, it's a hot pot place, and while the sushi is good, that's not what I'm there for. The hot pot can be done one of two ways, with either two broths or three. I went with three, which gets you a lot of variety. They had "rejuvenation broth," which is a pretty basic, mild both, a tomato based one, and Szechuan - this was just too spicy for my taste. (Heck, at one point, the steam was wafting into my face, and I thought I was being sprayed with mace!) To the broths, you add your selection of THREE PAGES of different items, ranging from noodles and vegetables to meats, including some really good seafood and meat selections -- be sure to try the "black pork," which is like kobe beef of porks. You drop them into the broth and let it simmer for a bit, then pluck it out, dip it in your sauces, and eat it. The sauces are available at a little buffet, and there's plenty of options. I was a little disappointed that there weren't desserts on the menu, and the selection of drinks was a little low, but it's hard to want dessert after you've eaten twenty different items. I don't think I could see my shoes by the time I left. The portion sizes were a bit small: I ordered, for example, cuttlefish balls, and they brought TWO. But, you can always order more (and more and more), and it leaves more room to try a lot of different things. There's a parking lot in the back, but I emphatically recommend parking somewhere else. I don't know what the designer of this lot was thinking: it's ridiculously narrow, and assuming you can get your car into one of the spots, you won't be able to open the doors. They have a sauce bar with everything labeled as well as a few different sauce recipes if you're unsure what to make. Their menu was pretty extensive and I was happy with all of the options. They also had some select appetizers (the gyoza and shumai are fried which I wasn't a fan of and the scallion pancake was also more fried than I like) that are included in the cost. And I appreciated that the hot pot dishes were small in size, this allowing you to try a lot of dishes and reorder the ones you really liked without having to deal with potential excess food waste. Our service was exceptional. Actually, beyond exceptional. She was very attentive and very polite. Other than not having a dessert menu I have one more complaint about our experience here that I think could be fixed easily: the timing of our dishes. We had most of our hotpot items arrive before our broth and our appetizers. When our broth came we had to wait while it heated up before cooking. And then our appetizers came a bit later. It would've been nice if our appetizers had arrived either first or alongside our broth and then, a bit later, the other dishes arrived. But we did love the promo arrival with our refills! read more

I made a reservation but we were not seated until our entire party appeared (which is understandable since there's a seating time limit). Unfortunately, the service was less than decent which really affected the experience. They're reeeallly short staffed and so our waiter was minimally accessible because he was running around. It was frustrating because for "all you can eat" hot pot, we could only order our food through him each time but again, he wasn't around often. Other places have tablets to ease ordering but if you don't have it, at least have our waiter be more present. He was also a poor communicator/listener.. not only did he forget a few things we ordered (which was fine), he neglected to put in one of our guest's orders of sushi. He told her the price and walked away? Didn't even give her a chance to put in her order after she said the price was fine. The icing on the cake was us being overcharged.. again, because our waiter incorrectly communicated with the host. Fortunately the host was helpful and issued the refund. I will not be coming back to this establishment as I live an hour away, however if you are in the area and would like hot pot, go for it. We happened to come across LaTAO on yelp and made it a mission to try it out. It was $29.95 +$5 for AYCE sushi Usually we wouldn't order so much to have 2 different types of food but made it a point to have our usual orders for hotpot and 5 different sushi rolls. The szechuan broth was not as flavorful or spicy but it did its job. The fatty lamb was iur favorite choice of meat. It was tender and just fatty enough that there was no after taste that often comes with lamb. Their sauce bar was pretty average with the usual 10 or so sauces like soy sauce, peanut sauce, chive sauce, hoisin, oyster sauce, cilantro, green onions, sesame seeds. I appreciated that they have 2 fermented side dishes (kimchi and fermented daikon) and they also had oranges. I'd never been to hot pot before but was really surprised at the prices, variety, and quality of ingredients. For about $30 you can do all you can eat sushi and hot pot so of course we couldn't say no to that. We definitely ordered too many items since we had trouble finishing our good, and you pay for each pound of food you waste so we had to eat it all. I like the idea of paying for uneaten food; I think it could really help cut down on waste. I'm pretty sure we ordered almost all ingredients on the menu including six different kinds of tofu (which may have been unnecessary) and a couple different types of sushi each. I wish we could get samples of some hot pot items on the menu that we'd never seen or tried before because we ordered them out of curiosity and it was a lot more than we anticipated. Our end of the hot pot seemed to be boiling more than the other side but we rotated the pot to make sure all the food was cooked. I really liked the sauce and topping station because we should add more spices to our broth. I had the herb broth so it definitely needed a kick. I haven't driven down college park in so long! When did this building get here?! Met up with a large group of friends to eat hot pot on a cold night. They have a small parking garage located behind them. Really tight spots to squeeze into if you have a big car! But it has a walkway that leads you right to the front where the restaurants and shops are. It's hard to see in because of the deliciously steamed windows caused from the hot pot on a cold night! Came with a group of 10 so we were seated at a table in the middle. Unfortunately this table only had shared pots. Pros, in the shared big pots, you can order up to 3 different soups! Cons, you have to share the pot, making it hard for some of those to reach the pot itself. I did see that they had tables for max of 6 people that would get you individual burners. So if you don't want to share, magic number is 6! The cool different thing about this place is for $5 more, you can add all you can eat sushi! They had sashimi, rolls, speciality rolls. When made they come out small, which is nice so you don't get filled on the sushi! The whole table doesn't have to join if you want sushi, they just ask you don't share, obviously makes sense! The sushi was alright, definitely $5 extra quality. The side that I sat in tried the rib bone soup and Tom yum soup. Both soups were tasty! The Rib bone soup actually came with a rib bone in the soup for gnawing on! Tom yum had a little bit of spice to it. They had a good selection of sauces to make your own and a great selection of meats and veggies (they had watercress(seasonal)! My fav! Not all spots have it). Another con, we had to order the food with the server. Rather than how many other hot pot places have table side tablets to order! Server was great and very attentive until towards the end when we could tell she was getting busier with other tables. But they did a great job clearing up our table for more plates to come! I was so skeptical before dining here. Just because good Asian cuisine does not exist out here. Im so glad some of my Yelp friends referred this place. What makes this place stand out is the great variety in food, seasoning, free parking and awesome service. Some of the highlights food wise include the meats. Definitely order the lobster fish skin dumpling, spicy beef, fatty beef, angus beef, and fatty lamb. I really loved the special rib broth, tomato broth and tom yum broth. Everything here is so fresh and clean. Meats are thinly cut and come out in pretty plates. The broths are not super salty and rich in flavor . Ordering is really as the well trained staff just processes everything on the Ipad. Overall, this is a great place to come for some quality hot pot. They have a wide open concept with booth seating, large tables and even a karaoke bar in the bar. They do feature a sign that shows you the best sauce combinations.
