Ahi tuna Poke Bowl - Regular (2 Proteins)
    Simone C.

The bowl was great. Flavorful and filling. I only ordered one protein because I wasn't paying attention that I was being charged for 2. We didn't stay to eat because the food court was really packed, so I ate in my car.

I was craving a poke bowl so I decided to try this spot out. It's located in the food court (lower level) of Garden State Plaza mall. If you've never had poke before, it's basically a Hawaiian version of Chipotle. You choose a base, protein (which is typically raw fish), toppings, and sauce(s). I ordered one of their signature items, the Yuzu Ponzu Salmon ($16-$18). It included brown rice, salmon, cucumber, sweet onion, pineapple, cilantro, seaweed salad, green onion, sesame seeds, onion crisps, and ponzu sauce. I also added spicy salmon. The portion size for the proteins was really small.... I get bigger scoops of ice cream. While the ingredients were very fresh, my bowl lacked overall flavor harmony. I didn't get the citrus-y, tangy, and sweet flavors I expected. I guess I made a bad choice? I also ordered a mango lemonade ($2.75) which was good, but nothing special. Overall not the greatest value for almost $20. They do have a $2 discount if you check in on Yelp. I might give it another try the next time I go to GSP, and would definitely make my own bowl instead of ordering a signature one.

We enjoy Poke so it's good to know there's an option in the mall. The staff were really nice and explained all the options and offered ideas to get different flavors. The toppings were fresh and I thought the portions were good. We would definitely come again.

Poke Your Way (aka custom bowls)

EXCELLENT poke bowls here. No matter if you're a newb to Poke or a Poke-tarian, I still recommend going with the Poke Your Way (aka a custom bowl/salad) because you can determine the exact ingredients in your order. For custom bowls/salads, you can choose 2 or 3 proteins, unlimited mix-ins, 1 flavor, a fair number of free toppings and unlimited free crunch. My wife and I both ordered 2 custom bowls and they were mmmm mmm hit the spot good. The ingredients tasted fresh, most importantly the fish, but what we really loved most was that they didn't skim on any ingredients and filled the bowl to the brim, which not all poke restaurants do. If you're craving poke and have a huge appetite to fill, this Pokeworks location nails it.

The food is fresh and delicious! Staff and service are friendly and courteous. It's located at the food court at the mall The ambiance is bright & airy, clean, and open: it's nice to see the fresh produce on the counter. I'd definitely come back and order from this place again! Pokebowl is the new thing, and I hope it's not just a fad!!!l

My second time eating Pokeworks at this location. While I ordered their signature bowl last time, I opted for a custom bowl this time. They allow for unlimited toppings (except for the avocado) but be aware of the white lady's passive judgmental stare... I still added as much toppings as I wanted but felt peeved with the white lady. She didn't ruin the eating experience for me though! The meal was delicious and fulfilling - I ordered the brown rice, salmon & shrimp , and most of the toppings , the gochujang and the ponzu sauces, and garlic crisps. Safe to say the white lady was relieved I was leaving. I've only ever had poke bowls in NYC at poke bowl station because their bowl prices are amazing (unlimited toppings) & come with a bubble tea. However, this spot comes close in second in terms of flavors. Pokebowl station wouldn't judge you for adding all the toppings since they're prepared for that

The food here was very fresh and quickly put together. The service was great as it was my first time ever having poke and i enjoyed my first experience. They shared how The build your own plate worked and what worked best together. For a mall food court place it felt like a healthier and different experience, i enjoyed my meal here and would recommend if you like raw fish

This is medium sauce (classic + sriracha aoili) with 3 protein bowl. We've tried light & heavy sauce, but medium is perfect.

Pokeworks in NYC was my first pokebowl experience so really happy to have a location in GSP, close to home. I always go with the 3 protein bowl and load up on all the toppings I like. They never miss a beat even when ordering for delivery. There are a lot of competitors out there and this is in the top 3 list for me (Pokebowl, and yes that's the name of the other chain, is really good in NYC FiDi, too.) Looking for a remix to your typical sushi joint? Try pokeworks!

Great tasting fresh poke bowl. Ordered a small poke bowl but added a protein so I could try both spicy tuna and spicy salmon. Loved the spicy salmon, fresh and just the right amount of fat. The tuna was great tasting but the texture wasn't perfect. I will definitely be ordering a bowl again. Tried the hibiscus juice and it's refreshing without being too sweet. Ordered the combo expecting to get fresh kettle chips but was just given a bag of Deep River chips you can get anywhere. Next time I'll choose the option for a miso soup as a side as they are the same price.

This place is located in the garden state plaza mall in the food court. As far as Asian food goes its pretty unauthentic. As far as Mall food goes this place is pretty average. They make it in a timely matter and always double check your order. You can tell though that everything just sits around for most of the day cause nothing tastes fresh. Either way I have no real complaints because it's food court food.

The menu had mostly Hawaiian options to choose from. The pricing was very reasonable as well. I had the customizable poke bowl ($15.95). There was a number of different options to choose from with different proteins, toppings, sauces, etc. I had a base of brown rice with avocado, cucumber, sweet corn, edamame, mango, ahi tuna, spicy mayo, ginger, wasabi, jalapeno, green onion, and cilantro. This was nicely done. Everything appeared fresh and it was a good size portion. I would have just liked to seen a little more ahi tuna present, but besides that, very pleasant and filling. I also had the spam musubi ($2.95) and a side of macaroni salad ($3.95). The musubi was okay. It was a little dry. There needed to be more sauce present. The macaroni salad was a heaping portion, and it was tasty. There looked like a lot of mayonnaise present, but it was not too overpowerful as some type of sugar seemed to be incorporated to balance it out. Regardless of what it was, the salad was flavorful. Will I go back? I would.

Them mango smoothie was a nice size and delicious! I ordered my food to go and had a very short ride so the good was still hot. We tried the Hawaiian Garlic shrimp. Small size was plenty as it had 7 shrimp over sticky rice with some mixed vegetables in a cheesy buttery sauce. It had nice flavor. Also tried was the Hawaiian Ahi Bowl ( poke) which had plenty of fresh tuna with same veggies. Again a small size was plenty. Lastly I tried the Musubi which is a slice of Spam on top of a bar of cooked sticky rice with seaweed paper around it to get it together. Hawaii has been the # consumer of Spam for many years so I had to give it a try. The salty, smokey flavor of the "meat" along with he sticky rice was a good combo, but the seaweed wrap just gave it a slight fishy taste I could do without. The ice cream is rich and delicious, with some unique flavors, and the shaved ice is very fine - fluffy and evenly slushy in texture and sweetness, unlike the inferior versions where you run into bland chips of ice. The toppings are yum too. The ramen noodles are springy, settled in a savory light broth. For a non-prestige grade ramen, I have no complaints. I also want to acknowledge the lovely hospitality. My child was in a tantrum-y mood and went to sulk by himself in a corner. In any case I still enjoy the food, but I think it might be better to just order it online for me as it is quite a far distance for me to drive to enjoy it in person. Overall, we were able to enjoy our meal slowly as we had much catching up to do.. The shop was not particularly busy during its lunch hour so the food was ready quite quickly, which was impressive. I would rate this as 5.0 for the food but 4.5 for the customer experience aspect. It is a recommendation that they at least acknowledge or interact with people who expresses positively for enjoying their food. Because this is not an open food court situation and it is in a restaurant even after you paid for the food and sat down and eat it it would be nice for them to also interact in some capacity just felt a bit standoffish in my opinion.
