This is my favorite poke place, and I frequent this almost once a week for lunch. I love the quality of the ingredients from the fish, to the sauce, and to the generous toppings given the price, especially in this day and age. The store also has an online ordering system, which makes it convenient. And the employees are fast and efficient, so there isn't ever really a wait. All the employees whom I've encountered have been very kind, and I think several times the owner has helped me with my order. The staff and owner is friendly and this place is always busy. I've been to A LOT of poke places around OC for the past two decades and this one is hands down the best. Crab and avocado are standard with each poke bowl and NOT up charged. They have fresh jalapeño (not pickled) which I love and is rare to find. They also use sushi rice (have brown rice option too) which I personally prefer as it pairs with the fish very well. And the rice is fresh but not steaming hot like other places where it warms up your raw fish. The cucumbers are always fresh and crispy and being that I work across the street and have eaten here dozens of times, I've never had a bad or spoiled ingredient. There was literally one sliver of white onion, the scoops of fish were meager, but I did get 20 slices (yes I counted) of cucumber...which was under the fish, making it look like a lot of fish. Hidden in an unassuming sea of white, mostly unlabeled buildings, Pokenoya might be hard to find, but look for a corner spot with the door open and a table with an umbrella in front. The gentleman who took my order was so friendly, and he was very patient as he made recomendations and answered my questions. He genuinely wanted to help me and other customers. It's refreshing to experience this kind of service. One thing that nearly made me walk out, however, was the price of the regular three-scoop bowl...it was nearly $19 after tax!! But I committed and went with half brown rice/half spring mix, 2 scoops of salmon with 1 scoop of ahi tuna, and a non-spicy sauce with just a dash of the spicy. After getting my add-ins and toppings (first scoop of avocado is free!), it looked like a sizable bowl. However, I wasn't that hungry and still finished the entire thing, so maybe it wasn't as substantial as I thought? Both the salmon and tuna tasted fresh. The wasabi mayo recommended by the worker was delicious, luckily not too pungent, spicy, or sweet. I'm also glad I asked for a medium amount of the non-spicy sauce, which is like a combination of ponzu and sesame oil. Any more than what I got would have soaked everything and been too overwhelming. Yesterday I came in super excited to have my first raw fish in 8 months. I was diagnosed with cancer and due to chemotherapy I was not allowed to eat any raw fish during treatment. The inside is comfy and there's outdoor seating as well so it's a perfectly fine place to stay and eat. The staff were very friendly and were pretty fast in their service. Lots of quality food options and it's a nice touch to have avocado included for free. However, considering the price, for a few bucks more you can get an AYCE Sushi lunch nearby, this just isn't worth it. Pokenoya is located in a business plaza, so don't be alarmed and think that your gps is mistaken. The bowl was shallower than at other poké places, and since I got spring mix as my base, once I mixed it, it didn't seem like there was that much poké or anything else in the bowl. I was lost at first coming into an office building but no, this is corner Poke-stop out of place but seemingly home for me. To me, it seems you'd have to look this place up beforehand as it's not marked anywhere outside and there's almost no foot traffic to Pokenoya when everything within 1/2 a mile is a generic office complex, so the only way you could really find this place is if you're ordering Ubereats or just look up decent Poke while you're at Costco. Anyways... I wasn't sure if Pokenoya could compare to the good poke places that I'm used to, but after trying their it definitely held up well for the most part which surprised me. Prices are around the same and Pokenoya did a solid on the most part. With a large bowl of 5 proteins, I'd say that the spicy tuna was the best, although I probably recommend going lightly on the sauce when they drizzle the food with spicy mayo or you'll miss out on the taste of the fresh chunks of albacore or shrimp. Can't really go wrong with any of the proteins really. If I have to rate it though, 5 out of 5 for the proteins, 3 out of 5 for the rice. The issue for me was that it was late afternoon and I felt that the rice was kinda hard for me, and that is why I can't give higher than 4 stars. It wasn't as good as I'd like, but it's okay if you went for spring greens or a half greens and half rice bowl. Oh and just a heads up, there's virtually no seats inside. You'll have to sit outside in the sun under a tiny umbrella or just takeout, which I do the latter fairly often. I wouldn't call this a hole in a wall as this is Irvine, there aren't really hole in the walls here lmao. Its priced slightly higher than what you'll find North of the 133, but it's decent if you're doing takeout here. read more
