I am giving this place 2 stars instead of 4 because we got really really dry, old rice. I came here Sunday afternoon with a group of 8. I dragged them all here from Cerritos bc I heard good things about them on yelp. Poke was good. They give you samples with a smile. But since there is no seating in the restaurant, we didn't realize our rice was all old until we sat down to eat after driving to a nearby park to sit down. I was very disappointed in their rice which ruined many of our experiences. It was old and hard. Like it was left out to dry uncovered. This warrants minus two stars bc when you're eating poke, all it is is rice and fish. You can't really have bad rice and still enjoy your meal. Spicy tuna was not very spicy but it was good. When you go into Angelito's Market they invite you to try any and all. $6.50 for a half pound $12.?? for a pound My only negative was the size of the chunks. Been coming here for years now and this place never let's me down! I always get the the spicy mayo, wasabi mayo, ahi limu, oyster sauce, I can go on but those are my go to! I order a poke bowl with any one of those choices but if I feel like eating a lot, I just get the 2 poke combo plate. Yes they give you a pretty good portions too! Came here for the first time today for lunch and ordered a combo plate with Kalua pork and the spicy tuna with mayo. My stomach has been upset since lunch and am now fully experiencing some food poisoning. My go to poke spot in the area. Plenty of parking, fish is always fresh, and workers are super nice and friendly. They'll typically have their tuna poke ready mixed so you can have a quick meal ready to go. Their salmon poke is made to order so it may take a little longer but only a few minutes and not even worth stressing over. They do serve breakfast all day which I haven't yet tried and a few other cooked dishes. If you don't want to wait and want to grab and go, order ahead by phone or through Eat24 and they'll have your order ready in a hurry. We came in on a Saturday afternoon to pick up a couple of plate lunches. We ordered the Ohana and Lau Lau plate with ahi limu and shoyu poke. No mac salad included on the plate lunches so we ordered a side of it. It was the last one in the display and the guy noticed it was a bit dry and insisted he add more mayo. It turned out he just added a dollop to the container which didn't look appetizing but was better since we could mix how much we wanted. The ahi limu poke was good, the closest to traditional poke. The lau lau, kalua pork and shoyu chicken all tasted good too. The shoyu chicken was the big surprise for me because I expected more shoyu flavor but it tasted more like the herbs/spices used with char siu pork. I enjoyed the flavor but if you're looking for the traditional shoyu chicken, you need to go elsewhere. I always made fun of my brother for being such a traditionalist. No matter how good the meats/poke/mac salad was in a plate lunch, if you didn't get two scoops of rice, you wouldn't get his approval. This time, I wholeheartedly agree. With this plate lunch, I was dying for a second scoop of rice. There's just too much salty protein to make it through with only one scoop. No scoop of mac salad included? No second scoop of rice? At first I was really excited to try out Poke Etc. I saw the good reviews on Yelp and gave it a shot. First off, the place where it was located is like an inception of stores. It's a jewelry shop with a tax preparer with a small grocery store AND a poke spot. Walked in and already felt skeptical about the place but I'm all for small businesses. They also had a sign that they had spam MISIBI. MISIBI?! REALLYYYY?! That should have been my indication to not order anything and leave, but ignoring my better judgement I went for it and ordered the spicy mayo poke bowl. Once I got home and tried it out I really did not enjoy my poke. The fish was definitely not fresh and had a funny taste to it. Bottom line. I would never come back to this place. The Poke is 5 star and is always Fresh & Delish. They seem to be tinkering with their recipes and the flavor seems to be getting better all the time. I'm not as much of a fan of their other offerings. They are 4 star good. You should get just the poke. Although they do offer an excellent Hawaiian Portuguese Sausage. I can't wait for the new storefront to open. Hopefully it will not be as ghetto and I can give them 5 stars. The current location is not really dirty, but it's not a restaurant but an old store. Thank you, Yelp and Yelpers, for this find. I was getting some serious withdrawal symptoms for poke after having it for the first time in Hawaii last year. I got the poke + kalua pork + rice combo. I LOVED it. The spicy tuna is wonderfully seasoned (spicy!). I didn't think it was much at first in terms of portion size, but it did fill me up. The service was really friendly. It seems like a family-run business, and the people are really sweet. There are definitely issues with the tubs of poke being under the wrong labels... I.E. "tuna without mayo" was under "tuna with mayo" and vice versa. I don't think they have signage on their side of the display. Either way, we figured it out. Also -- I would suggest that you make it known ahead of time if you are in a party of 2+ and intend to pay separately: we had a little miscommunication mishap where the order was rung up as one, but my boyfriend and I intended to pay separately. It appeared that the cashier was having a very difficult time rectifying this, so we just paid together to make it less of a hassle on him. There is no place to really dine-in. Expect to bring this home or somewhere else. Overall: nice people, GREAT food. I will be coming back to fulfill my next poke craving. read more

Can you poke me with some poke? (Lame) Finally, Carson and the South Bay have a legit poke spot. This is definitely not your fancy shmancy fishy place. It's located inside a tiny Filipino convenience store. Once you enter, the ladies here are welcoming and sweet. They would let you sample different poke flavors and styles. My favorite is the spicy tuna with mayo and fish roe. They also have tako (octopus) and mussels poke and some other Filipino and Hawaiian dishes (sold by the lb. I think). Oh man, this place is good! Ok, I'm not Hawaiian. I don't know authentic, but i think this place has great food. My wife and i came in just before noon time on a Saturday. They just opened so everything was fresh. I saw about 6-8 poke. We'll be trying out everything in the next few weeks. Poke Etc is inside a convenience store in the back. A Filipino family owns this place. They have a couple other things to offer like kalua pork, laulau, musubi, just to name a few. I went for the kalua pork combo. Which consist of white rice, kalua pork and your choice of poke. Its was $8.50. You can buy the poke by the pound as well. Its $13 per pound. I guess pick and choose what you want. I think you can also get a tray of poke with at least a 1 day request. Last they take card, credit has a small fee but debit is free. read more

I happened to stop by this place while on my way to Santa Monica. Boy am I glad I stopped by :) it's really small and can easily be overlooked, but a must try! I ordered a half-pound of the kimchi poke and another half-pound of the oyster poke. I love that they have a variety of unique flavors. Both the kimchi and oyster were pretty good. Very good! I ordered the limu poke bowl and the calamari salad from the Filipino Auntie. They don't have much on display, but I think it's because they make the poke fresh. I ate the limu poke as soon as I got home, and oh man, it totally hit the spot. I haven't tried the calamari salad yet, but it looks legit. I have poke bowls maybe once every two weeks and I'm accustomed to pointing,picking, and building my poke bowl so when I walked in to this place I was a little confused. I asked the girl "are the bowls premade or can I chose the toppings? "....she just stared at me. So my husband ordered and I since I was so confused about the lack of menu options I just said "I'll have the same". We both got the ginger tuna poke bowl. That's all you get the fish and rice. The tuna was warm, mushy. My hubby said he "liked" his, however, he was starving and hadn't eaten all day. Yay! Happy to have found a good poke spot close to school. I was in for a long day and didn't have time to pack dinner and Yelp led me here. The shop is very small with only a couple of bar seats but the poke is delicious. The poke served here is pre-marinated (not made to order/Chipotle style) and can be served al la carte, with rice, brown rice, or salad. I had the wasabi poke with brown rice and the serving was GENEROUS. The wasabi poke was good; nice cuts of tuna with a nice sharp wasabi taste to it but next time I will request only a half order of this flavor as it started making me cry after a while. They have lots of other poke favors that I'm excited to try. Will be coming back on my long work/school days! read more

Another poke place that I finally got to try! This is probably the best poke place I've tried so far in LA area. The place itself is quite hard to find. It's located inside a liquor store. The set up could be a lot better, definitely not the nicest looking place...However the poke is really good. It was almost as good or just as good as the poke that I had in Hawaii. There were a couple different types of poke such as ahi-limu, spicy (with or without mayo), wasabi poke, oyster sauce poke, tako poke (octopus) and kimchi poke! The workers were super nice and the guy asked if I wanted to sample anything. He was super nice and generous about allowing samples. I decided to go with the ahi-limu and the spicy with no-mayo for my boyfriend. I liked the wasabi one too but it was just a little too spicy for me. Next time I want to try the kimchi poke. I love the vibe in this place, it really makes you feel like you're in Hawaii. My overall experience was great and I'm only giving this place a 4 star because the space is small, seating is limited, and the seats are only high chairs. Nonetheless, the food and service was great! One of the best poke I've ever had. The tuna pieces were big and flavorful. The spam musubi was huge, but I do wish there was some sauce inside because it was kind of dry. They also offer salmon poke made to order upon request! Don't expect a smile or friendly face. The one and only time I went to this location wasn't the best experience. When I walked in there were maybe 3 groups of dinners with a total of 5 people sitting down to eat. There was no line and maybe about 4 employees behind the counter. First thing I noticed was unlike the other poke places I frequent at there wasn't the classic "welcome greeting". As I walked to the counter not one of the 4 employees addressed me, I had to initiate contact to get my order started. After about a minute of grumbles and stares, someone drew the short stick and was made to take my order. There still wasn't anyone else in line and the employee rushed me through the hole process. He rolled his eyes and made many sighs at any slight hesitation from my selections. When I went to pay, before I could even finish signing for my purchase, he disappeared into the back kitchen without a 'thank you' or even basic eye contact. All in all he was extremely rude and impatient. Even though this location is a tad bit pricier than most, the portions are larger and it's conveniently located for me. I just hope to have a better customer service experience the 2nd time around. I'll be back with an update. read more
