back door by parking lot

"At last My love has come along My lonely days are over And life is like a lovely song" (Etta James) Our days of travelling over the mountain into West Hartford for a Poke Bowl are over! At long last, Poke has come to the Farmington Valley and I'm confident that Poke Bros will be our guys from now on. They just opened yesterday and you'll find them in the Whole Foods Plaza on Climax Road in Avon. They have two doors, but you'll probably use the back door a lot. That's the one by a big parking lot behind the stores. The front door is only accessible from a sidewalk, so unless you're walking over from Whole Foods, you'll use this one quite a bit less. The retail space is a long rectangle with tables and chairs on one end and the big ordering line and bins of bowl ingredients and sauces on the other end. Like most Poke Palaces, they have "Signature Bowls" -six of them with various pre-set combinations of proteins, vegetables, and sauces. We just about always opt for a "Build Your Own" Bowl, where you're the boss and construct your own creation from their array of 4 bases, 8 proteins, 12 vegetables, crab stick, tofu cubes, 6 sauces, and 6 toppings. I crafted mine with half brown rice and half greens as my base, spicy chicken and shrimp for my proteins, plus all kinds of goodies like masago, cucumbers, scallions, and corn. I love spicy things, so I finished off my bowl with their Gochujang sauce. The portion size was very comparable to other Poke places. The price was $14 per bowl with a $1.50 surcharge for the crab stick (of which there was a ton of). They also have about a dozen different flavors of Mochi Ice Cream balls which we'll try next time. One final note -because this was just their second day of business the owner walked over to greet and thank us, and gave us two bottled drinks from their refrigerated case. We walked out with a Perrier, a Diet Coke, and gratitude knowing that we now have our own local Poke Palace. Best of luck to the Poke Brothers. Go support them, please?

Love that we have a close Poke Bowl option for dining! This place offers the freshest ingredients made to order. I did a custom bowl and it didn't disappoint. Staff is friendly and helpful!

First time trying poke!! My husband loves it so I was excited to try CT's first PokeBros location! You can order one of their signature bowls or make your own! I opted to order one of their bowls and went with the "Hula" which had shrimp, cucumber, avocado and crab. It was all dressed up and really good!! For my first poke experience, I loved it! It's like deconstructed sushi. I saw they have spicy tuna that you create your own with, but I'm not sure I'm that ambitious yet. Would definitely be back if I'm in the Avon area and hope they open more CT locations!!

This place is very new. There is parking in the back. Poke bros is located right across from Whole Foods. Wanted to try some new poke place and happens to spit this. When you walk in you're greeted right away. The place is huge and with a lot of seating. You walk up and can pick a poke bowl already with the ingredients or you can make your own. The place has a lot of ingredients that you can choose from. But there are a few that is missing that I like and they didn't or don't have. But, all in all it wasn't a bad place. They are new so it definitely was clean.

Definitely my new favorite Poke restaurant! Visited for my second time tonight and my bowl was just as fresh and delicious as the first time! Poke Bros. offers a bunch of special bowls, or, you can do what I do and make your own and add a ton of toppings, most of which are free (others are a small upcharge). Everything is super fresh and tasty and the owners make sure to give you your money's worth with your bowls. I also have to make note to try their drinks and dessert next time! If you're in the mood for a great Poke bowl, definitely check out Poke Bros.!

It's a fairly new poke place, and my family loves it. We've been to other poke places, and my 2 sons (10 & 13) weren't enthused, but they both seem to like this place. My husband likes this place the best out of the poke places out here. Also, a man (who I assume is the owner) comes out to greet you, asks you if you like everything, and is really helpful and accommodating. The first time we ate there as a family, the owner asked if we had coupons and then gave us a small stack of take-out menus which has coupons. The second time my husband and son stopped by to get take-out for the family, the owner made a balloon-twisted long sword for my son. The owner was very kind and considerate to ask if he had a sibling, and when my son said he had a brother, he blew up another balloon and twisted it into another long sword (which made my boys love this place all the more, as they sword fought at home).

I went to Poke Bros for the first time the other night and was not disappointed! I had actually never had poke before this, as I'm not a big fan of fish. However, I do like shrimp, and also saw that they had chicken as a protein option, so I decided to give it a try... At Poke Bros, they have six "signature" bowls to choose from, or you can build your own bowl, selecting a base (rice, salad, etc.), protein, veggies and toppings, sauces, etc. I opted for the "Hula" bowl, which included shrimp, green onion, cucumber, crab stick, avocado, masago, OG sauce (their original sweet soy sauce), sriracha aioli, and coconut ginger on top of warm rice. I also added some wonton chips. It was so delicious! I was worried that the sriracha aioli might be too spicy (I don't like anything spicy), but it wasn't at all! The ingredients tasted so fresh, and I felt healthier as I was eating it! Before leaving, I tried a few of the Mochi flavors they had, mango, strawberry and salted caramel. If you've never had Mochi before, it's really hard to describe the texture and consistency, but I can assure you it's amazing! My favorite was the salted caramel. Rather than trying to eat it with a spoon, I found it easier to hold it and take a bite out of it. The inside of the restaurant was super clean, and the staff were all very friendly. There's a large parking lot in the back of the building where the rear entrance is. Overall this is a great spot for a healthy but delicious lunch or dinner, and I'm already looking forward to going back!

First time here. The staff members were very patient and very helpful to us while we learned their ordering process. It's real simple, choose a signature bowl or build your own bowl. If you choose to build your own, they have a great selection to build upon. It's kinda like ordering at Subways but without the attitude. The staff was wonderful as we shuffled down the selection process. Great rice choices, veggies, protein choices and sauce choices at the finish line. We will be back for sure.

Excellent topping options, fresh seafood, good portion of sushi, and all around great experience. I would highly recommend.

We actually had our baby shower there in the Ballroom back in 2021, and I was impressed with the food. We have done dinner there as well, and greatly enjoy it. Parking was easy, we were seated right away, and we grabbed a cozy spot in the bar area. The whole restaurant has that warm, comfortable feel that makes you want to linger over another drink or appetizer instead of rushing out the door. It's a vibe. I ordered the Caesar salad with blackened salmon, and honestly... the salmon completely stole the show. It was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of spice, cooked beautifully, and made what could have been an ordinary salad feel like a real meal. Sometimes restaurants treat the protein on a salad like an afterthought. Not here. Service was friendly, attentive, and quick without ever making us feel rushed, which made for an easy, relaxing lunch. If you're looking for a casual lunch spot in Avon that's a step above your typical pub food, The North House is definitely worth checking out. Next time, I think I'll be back with a few girlfriends to check out happy hour because this feels like exactly the kind of place you'd want to unwind after work. Can't wait to come back!!

"Well, listen buster You better start to move your feet…read moreTo the rockinest, rock-steady beat Of Madness" (Madness) Teriyaki Madness is a relatively new chain in Connecticut. They have locations in Hamden, Enfield, West Hartford, and Manchester before their newest store just opened in Avon, CT. The chain now has over 160 locations spread across the country in 39 states. We visited their spanking new Avon store tonight and had a very positive experience. The store interior is very bright and colorful with wall art and a big menu display board. Their menu is fairly straight-forward- you build a bowl with some customizing choices and add sides or make a combo if you want a little more than a bowl. Let me break it down for 'ya. There are nine bowl choices -chicken teriyaki, chicken breast teriyaki, spicy chicken teriyaki, orange chicken, steak teriyaki, teriyaki salmon, chicken katsu, spicy tofu teriyaki, and double protein. Next step is customization, which is just a fancy term for "what do you want your protein piled on top of?" white, brown, or fried rice, or noodles, or a veggie base. I had a spicy chicken teriyaki with brown rice and a side of veggies (broccoli, onion, cabbage, zucchini and shredded carrots. My bowl ran $14.49. It was a large portion which I'll get two meals out of. And yes, the spicy chicken did have a slow spicy burn that took a while to heat up. I do have a suggestion for management- consider getting a Sharpie and marking which "to go" bowl is which. We ordered a regular chicken teriyaki with the spicy chicken teriyaki and when we got home and unbagged our order, had no idea which one was which. That seems like such a simple thing to rectify, doesn't it? The service was great, the two gents we interacted with were helpful and funny, and a pleasure to interact with. Most importantly, the food was fresh, hot, and an OK value. Pro Tip.. don't skip grabbing one of the sweetest eating utensils I've ever seen. It's a yellow thingamabob that's a fork at one end and an attached pair of chopsticks on the other. You're Welcome.

The restaurant is nautical themed and it's not a fancy place but definitely a homey place. The service was great with ordering and picking up takeout. The prices were a little higher for the dinner options; I understand the situation, due to inflation and fresh seafood is usually more pricey. For starters, I had to try out their thick and creamy New England clam chowder; it was not the best I've ever had but it was a 3.5/5. My main meal was the crab cake sandwich and fries; it came with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and spicy delta tarter sauce. The crab cake was deep fried and perfectly crunchy. The fries were one of the best takeout fries I've had, it's was super crispy even after picking it up and driving home with it. Overall, my family and I enjoyed our meals!
