Some Notable Dons Don Cornelius, the founder of "Soul Train". Let's call him the Soulful Don. Don Zimmer, the legendary baseball figure who appeared in uniform across 8 decades. Let's call him the Longevity Don. Don Henley, the co-founder/co-lead vocalist/drummer for the Eagles. Let's call him the Musical Don. Don Corleone, the Patriarch of Mario Puzo's crime family. Let's call him the Persuasive Don. Which brings me to a very good Poke Shop on Manchester's Deming Street. Let's call them the Poke Don, because that's their name. Poke Don is fairly new and just had their Grand Opening on Saturday Feb 13, 2021. By now, most everyone is familiar with the Poke Protocol - choose one of their Signature Bowls, or or embrace your inner creativity and design your own. Just pick your base, protein, mix-ins, sauce, toppings and crunch. I designed my own with lettuce as a base, salmon and shrimp, onions, cucumber, corn, Hijaki and Ogo Seaweed, Shojang and Chili Garlic Sauces, Seaweed Salad, Scallions, Spicy Crab, and Tempura flakes. The Don's two protein bowls run $12.75, so they are comparable, if not a teense higher than the other Poke Palaces I've visited. I gave my Bowl high marks -the seafood was super fresh and tasty, all of the ingredients were very good, the two sauces added a nice Zing Factor, and the Tempura flakes added some nice crunchy texture. Service was very good as well, The masked young lady behind the counter patiently walked us through the ordering line. Nice job, Poke Don !

Stopped in for dinner with my aunt after she had been here a few times and suggested it for a bite to eat. A new addition to the busy plaza that has Panera Bread, T Mobile and a few other stores. With a packed parking lot parking a little away and walking is always suggested. The layout is open and fresh; without tables due to the current Covid Climate. Order ahead or there is very straight forward paying per amount of protein that you want, either two or three scopes. You could pretty much get three different types of proteins but I opted for two scoops of tuna and one of salmon. What sets this place apart is the choices of toppings and additions. One of the noticeable ones was two different types of seaweed which was cool to see. Didn't really taste them distinctly as the proteins were mixed up with toppings and sauces but the bowl was jammed packed with so many things that each bite had some much flavor. My aunt got a poke salad instead of a rice based bowl which I opt to get next time. You can fit toppings like oranges, mangos, greens and even Himalayan salt. I'll be returning with my sister one day to see what other combinations with the sauces I could make. Time to adventure out from the miso dressing that I got before. For now they do have a social media offer for freshly fried sesame balls that were nice and warm as we ate them on our way to Ellict Brewery!

"Fast food poke bowls? Pinch me, I'm dreaming..." ...is what I'd like to say, but I'm willing to give Poke Don another try before I give a final verdict. I have to rate it based on my experience now, in which case it's not a good look. I've been meaning to try this place for awhile, so I was stoked when I drove by around lunch time. I was going solo for lunch today, so I only tasted the one item, the Hawaiian signature bowl. I've only ever ordered poke bowls in places like BJ's Brewhouse or Maggie McFly's - that is, only one kind of poke bowl, no options - so I got the first thing on the menu, which is normally the most popular item. Sadly, I was disappointed. Don't know if the worker was heavy-handed by accident with the "sweet" onion, but boy howdy that was the primary flavor. This onion may have been of the sweet variety, but it certainly wasn't acting like it (I did notice a lot of pieces from the core of the onion). The texture of the tuna was good, the sauce was great, the rice was a good portion, but again, when you have a powerful fighter like onion, the balance was way off. Full disclosure, I like onion, so this isn't an anti-onion spiel. I'll be back another time, probably go for the create your own bowls - and definitely skipping the onions that time around.

Good food, great quality. i love the custom bowls. so many options! My bowl was ready on time. My only qualm is that they don't update the online order tracker. I only have a certain amount of time for lunch so it would have been nice to get it earlier if it was ready

I previously had PokeDon in Gladtonbury during my time at Whole Foods. Honestly, the Manchester location is just as good as the Glastonbury location. No complaints here.

I stopped by to have a light meal. Fried Gyoza dumpling has a vegetarian flavor that was not mentioned in the menu. I went for that and it was nice and crisply. The sweet and spicy bowl was nice and fresh. Quantities are small.

I ordered takeout from here on a Friday night to try this new spot in the area. The food was ready right on time for pickup and the folks inside were friendly. It was exciting to see a build your own option and we opted to get two poke salads. You get to choose a good amount of toppings, sauces and proteins and they all are fresh tasting. The flavors seem to go together well too no matter what you choose. I'd say it's a little expensive for the size you get, but tasty. I'd recommend a stop in!

I love love this place! It's a deconstructed sushi in a bowl that's the best way I can describe it. When I first came in I was overwhelmed with the possibilities of toppings. You can get one of their creations or make your own. I decided to make my own and chose the 3 protein option. They have a 2 protein option as well. You can get brown or white rice. This is a great place to go to if you're in the mood for sushi and have a big appetite and you get your monies worth. Don't get me wrong I still love sushi, but when you're hungry especially after a workout you need something filling and not a hefty price tag. I ordered their fried food options for my mom and this was her review: I enjoyed the texture and the crunch of the Gyoza Dumplings. The flavor of the Shumai Dumplings were delish!! (Wish there had been more.) The Coconut Shrimp were tasty, but had a slight oily flavor. Now the biggest trouble I face is that this place is also near chipotle. But who said you can't have both?!?

Do they have anything containing peanuts or peanut oil here?

I assume you are allergic,so I would be safe and ask the staff that assemble the dishes. You select every item like a subway grinder, and then add the toppings and sauces. So you control everything that goes on the dish.

This tastes great! Easy to eat. Very light on the stomach. I ate the last of it! For my next drink, I'm trying the Alien Orchard made with Crown Apple whiskey and cranberry juice. Oh, it's a martini! The Negroni is a classic Italian cocktail known for its balanced bitter, herbal, and sweet flavors. Invented in Florence in the early 1900s, it's typically made with equal parts gin, sweet vermouth, and Campari, and garnished with an orange peel. The Negroni is complex and refreshing, with notes of juniper, grapefruit, and citrus. The sweet vermouth balances the bitter and herbal notes, making it suitable for all seasons. This was made just perfectly! What a great meal here!

This is possibly the largest pho (Vietnamese) restaurant in the state (next to Pho Boston). The decor is real nice too. The menu is huge. There are a lot of options including classic Vietnamese non-soup dishes (one of which I am getting). Unique items include salmon spring rolls and salmon noodle soup. There is no music. That should be on while they're open. The owner, Pete, immediately serves me a huge glass of ice water with a lime. It's warm outside so it's very refreshing. For my drink, I'm having a Nuoc Chanh (fresh lime). Nước chanh is a classic Vietnamese limeade, known for its refreshing balance of tart, sweet, and occasionally a hint of salt. In Vietnamese cuisine, "chanh" usually refers to green limes, though lemons can be used as a substitute abroad. This is good! It tastes closer to lemonade. For my appetizer, I am having the Goi Cuon Ga (chicken spring rolls). Gỏi cuốn gà are fresh, non-fried rolls filled with poached chicken, rice vermicelli, fresh herbs (mint, cilantro), and lettuce wrapped in thin rice paper. They are a light, healthy alternative to the traditional pork and shrimp version, often served with peanut hoisin dipping sauce or fish sauce (nước chấm). These are light and easy to eat. The cubed or diced or minced chicken is a different approach I haven't seen before. Add sriracha sauce for a little kick. These are good! They do serve everything on styrofoam plates. Adding some ceramic plates would be a nice touch. For my entree, I'm having the ga luclac (also known as Shaking Chicken). This is stir fried chicken breast with mixed vegetables and white rice. Vietnamese Shaking Chicken (gà lúc lắc) is a popular dish featuring wok-seared, cubed chicken thighs marinated in soy sauce, oyster sauce, and garlic, resulting in a caramelized, savory flavor. It is typically seared at high heat to create a crust, served over greens with onions and tomatoes, often accompanied by rice. I've asked for extra spicy. Let's see what comes out. There's always sriracha sauce as a last resort. This is more like it! It's served sizzle hot! That's a big portion! This tastes great! It's nice to be served by the owner himself! What a great meal here! P.S.: When paying, you need to go up to the front counter.

Don't concentrate too hard on trying to figure out if Pho 99 is the best the region's got. After all, luminaries like Mrs. Lee's and Pho House are gone, but Pho 99 is still here, and it's still so damn good. As a vegetarian, I love the tofu and veggies in Pho 99's pho chay. The pillows of tofu have the right combo of chewy skin and pliant interior, there are the right amount of auxiliary veggies, and the slender noodles always melt and dissolve just so into a silky oneness with the broth. I love the slight cinnamon smell in the broth and the way it gets better the longer it sits there, absorbing the squirts of sriracha and the bean sprouts you dump in. If you want something else, take it from my husband, a philistine on whom the delights of all soups are wasted, who says he adores their shaking beef. Family run, consistently delicious, and not overpriced at $20 for a large bowl, Pho 99's enduring goodness is a reminder of the astronomically high level of Vietnamese food in Hartford we are privileged to enjoy.

The sandwich, still tasty, seemed much smaller than normal, the meat still had good flavor, but the portion was lighter in comparison. The prices are also a bit high. Too sugary, no flavor, gummy, and disappointingly small and thin. A detractor for sure. As a deli, it feels like it's on the decline.
