Some Notable Dons Don Cornelius, the founder of "Soul Train". Let's call him the Soulful Don. Don Zimmer, the legendary baseball figure who appeared in uniform across 8 decades. Let's call him the Longevity Don. Don Henley, the co-founder/co-lead vocalist/drummer for the Eagles. Let's call him the Musical Don. Don Corleone, the Patriarch of Mario Puzo's crime family. Let's call him the Persuasive Don. Which brings me to a very good Poke Shop on Manchester's Deming Street. Let's call them the Poke Don, because that's their name. Poke Don is fairly new and just had their Grand Opening on Saturday Feb 13, 2021. By now, most everyone is familiar with the Poke Protocol - choose one of their Signature Bowls, or or embrace your inner creativity and design your own. Just pick your base, protein, mix-ins, sauce, toppings and crunch. I designed my own with lettuce as a base, salmon and shrimp, onions, cucumber, corn, Hijaki and Ogo Seaweed, Shojang and Chili Garlic Sauces, Seaweed Salad, Scallions, Spicy Crab, and Tempura flakes. The Don's two protein bowls run $12.75, so they are comparable, if not a teense higher than the other Poke Palaces I've visited. I gave my Bowl high marks -the seafood was super fresh and tasty, all of the ingredients were very good, the two sauces added a nice Zing Factor, and the Tempura flakes added some nice crunchy texture. Service was very good as well, The masked young lady behind the counter patiently walked us through the ordering line. Nice job, Poke Don !

Stopped in for dinner with my aunt after she had been here a few times and suggested it for a bite to eat. A new addition to the busy plaza that has Panera Bread, T Mobile and a few other stores. With a packed parking lot parking a little away and walking is always suggested. The layout is open and fresh; without tables due to the current Covid Climate. Order ahead or there is very straight forward paying per amount of protein that you want, either two or three scopes. You could pretty much get three different types of proteins but I opted for two scoops of tuna and one of salmon. What sets this place apart is the choices of toppings and additions. One of the noticeable ones was two different types of seaweed which was cool to see. Didn't really taste them distinctly as the proteins were mixed up with toppings and sauces but the bowl was jammed packed with so many things that each bite had some much flavor. My aunt got a poke salad instead of a rice based bowl which I opt to get next time. You can fit toppings like oranges, mangos, greens and even Himalayan salt. I'll be returning with my sister one day to see what other combinations with the sauces I could make. Time to adventure out from the miso dressing that I got before. For now they do have a social media offer for freshly fried sesame balls that were nice and warm as we ate them on our way to Ellict Brewery!

"Fast food poke bowls? Pinch me, I'm dreaming..." ...is what I'd like to say, but I'm willing to give Poke Don another try before I give a final verdict. I have to rate it based on my experience now, in which case it's not a good look. I've been meaning to try this place for awhile, so I was stoked when I drove by around lunch time. I was going solo for lunch today, so I only tasted the one item, the Hawaiian signature bowl. I've only ever ordered poke bowls in places like BJ's Brewhouse or Maggie McFly's - that is, only one kind of poke bowl, no options - so I got the first thing on the menu, which is normally the most popular item. Sadly, I was disappointed. Don't know if the worker was heavy-handed by accident with the "sweet" onion, but boy howdy that was the primary flavor. This onion may have been of the sweet variety, but it certainly wasn't acting like it (I did notice a lot of pieces from the core of the onion). The texture of the tuna was good, the sauce was great, the rice was a good portion, but again, when you have a powerful fighter like onion, the balance was way off. Full disclosure, I like onion, so this isn't an anti-onion spiel. I'll be back another time, probably go for the create your own bowls - and definitely skipping the onions that time around.

Good food, great quality. i love the custom bowls. so many options! My bowl was ready on time. My only qualm is that they don't update the online order tracker. I only have a certain amount of time for lunch so it would have been nice to get it earlier if it was ready

I stopped by to have a light meal. Fried Gyoza dumpling has a vegetarian flavor that was not mentioned in the menu. I went for that and it was nice and crisply. The sweet and spicy bowl was nice and fresh. Quantities are small.

I ordered takeout from here on a Friday night to try this new spot in the area. The food was ready right on time for pickup and the folks inside were friendly. It was exciting to see a build your own option and we opted to get two poke salads. You get to choose a good amount of toppings, sauces and proteins and they all are fresh tasting. The flavors seem to go together well too no matter what you choose. I'd say it's a little expensive for the size you get, but tasty. I'd recommend a stop in!

I love love this place! It's a deconstructed sushi in a bowl that's the best way I can describe it. When I first came in I was overwhelmed with the possibilities of toppings. You can get one of their creations or make your own. I decided to make my own and chose the 3 protein option. They have a 2 protein option as well. You can get brown or white rice. This is a great place to go to if you're in the mood for sushi and have a big appetite and you get your monies worth. Don't get me wrong I still love sushi, but when you're hungry especially after a workout you need something filling and not a hefty price tag. I ordered their fried food options for my mom and this was her review: I enjoyed the texture and the crunch of the Gyoza Dumplings. The flavor of the Shumai Dumplings were delish!! (Wish there had been more.) The Coconut Shrimp were tasty, but had a slight oily flavor. Now the biggest trouble I face is that this place is also near chipotle. But who said you can't have both?!?

I previously had PokeDon in Gladtonbury during my time at Whole Foods. Honestly, the Manchester location is just as good as the Glastonbury location. No complaints here.

Ask the Community - Poke Don

Do they have anything containing peanuts or peanut oil here?

I assume you are allergic,so I would be safe and ask the staff that assemble the dishes. You select every item like a subway grinder, and then add the toppings and sauces. So you control everything that goes on the dish.

Food is good, hate the company…read more It's been a hot minute since I've been to this location. So decided to drop in for a lunch. Two people manning the entire restaurant, deep in the orders and unable to assist the front. Going to the kiosk, put in a bowl and everything is an up charge. Want noodles? Extra. Want veggies? Extra. Want them combined with the protein? Extra. Then there's upsales after each bowl entry and when you go to check out. Even after all that, two junior bowls end up costing 36 bucks. The portion was fine for the price paid, and the quality of the food was good for a chain. None of my problems are the fault of the employees, they literally had no time between making orders to address the inbound customers. The problem is the company, and they are openly hostile towards their customer base. Unless you specifically are looking for a teriyaki bowl, I would highly advise that you look local and support those businesses before choosing this place. It's fine in terms of quality, and you'll get a decent product for exorbitant prices. But for me it's a pass

I received a promotional coupon for here and decided to try it out!…read more FOOD -I opted for a spicy chicken bowl with brown rice and veggies -I really like that the veggies are included and that they allowed me to get it with no onions. -very fresh bowl, veggies cooked well still with a little bite (crisp) to them -the chicken is dark meat which I love, cooked perfectly with some nice grill marks! -I think the spice factor can go up a little bit for the spicy chicken, but I will say it did build as I continued eating. -I thought the bowl was a bit lacking in flavor for my first few bites but I poured some of the teriyaki side sauce they give you on it and felt satisfied. I didn't use much but just to help coat the veggies/rice that didn't get much of the coating from the chicken on them. THE STAFF -very friendly, answered my questions no problem -kind, efficient THE ATMOSPHERE -it's in a little plaza so no outdoor seating but a good amount of indoor spots -I was here at lunch time on a Friday and could easily get a table to eat at -from what I saw (mostly sticking to front of store/near cash register area) it looked very neat and clean Overall, I would go back! The portion size (I got a regular) was really good for me to eat a hearty lunch and have some leftovers. I really enjoyed the freshness of the food and with the lovely staff and cleanliness of the place I would say I will definitely be back for lunch again!

The poke here is not the best I have ever had, but it is good and definitely satisfies the craving. They also always seem to have some type of promotion, which is a nice bonus. As someone who is gluten-free, I would love to see more gluten-free sauce options that are not spicy. That would make the experience even better for me. Overall, this is a solid choice if you are in the area and want something quick, fresh, and filling.

Great poke bowls, friendly staff, solid franchise spot…read more I've been to my fair share of poke bowl shops. Lots of them are small local shops that stumble when they start but eventually figure out their flavors and do well enough. This shop is a franchise spot, so it's a little bit more established when it comes to its flavors. So now there's no need to guess, just follow the plan and put in the time. Going inside, this place is very much a modern vibe place. Similar to an açaí bowl place on the other side of the plaza, it's got major beach vibes, fake greenery with led neon on the walls, funky local beach vibes art on the walls, nothing I haven't seen before. The server I believe is either very passionate or was the franchise owner. Very personable and willing to explain everything I had questions on. I got a bowl and a musubi, which the bowl was prepped as I went. Took some quick picks then headed to the car. The sushi rice is seasoned, the wasabi aoli is actually very spicy and packs a serious punch. The fish is fresh and the veggies add much more than just texture. The pickled veggies are sweet and tangy, the seaweed is dressed, everything gives some unique flavor. The "musubi", which is a kind of sushi and spam sandwich, was salty and meaty. Nori was toasted and the sandwich was good but missing contrast. Needed a strong sear or some crunchy element like a pickle, beet, or radish. Would also be great if it was made to order rather than prepped in advance. Portion was good for the price, quality is there, and the staff was friendly and helpful. If you never had a poke bowl, this is a great place to try one. It's also one of the few poke bowl places in the area, and they do it well. The trouble with established brands though is there's no way to fix or suggest things. All the flavors are strong and present, but can easily overpower each other. I would love to see the musubi done on demand even if it costs more. A brûlée torch can do quite a bit if used correctly. Thinking seared pepper tuna, seared salmon, crispy spam, or even toasted rice or warmed pineapple. Lots of options, just not much room to tweak. Out of all the dining locations in that plaza, this is one of the lighter options that still offered a good quality product at a fair price point. It's not the best poke bowl ever, but it's probably the best fish place in that area. A good option for the area
