I went to Market Grille with my family this weekend, and we sat outdoors. Surprisingly, we had been passing by this place for years without realizing it was there since it is a little tucked away. It is a beautiful spot to catch a summer sunset and enjoy a meal. As someone who is gluten-free, I was really excited that they had gluten-free bread rolls. Honestly, the rolls were the highlight of my afternoon. I even took extra home because they were that good. I almost did not need anything else. I also tried the risotto and scallops, which were pretty good, and I ordered the New Bedford cod fra diavlo. It was okay. I was not expecting anything revolutionary, but it was solid. The table also had a few other appetizers, including calamari, clam chowder, truffle fries, and risotto fritters. Our server was amazing!! I would go back for the gluten-free rolls alone, and maybe next time I will try the chef flatbread. read more

Had dinner with 3 others- all of our entrees and starters were delicious; escarole and bean soup well seasoned; recommend the giant pretzel- with antipasto type meats and cheese, salad greens; and tiny crunchy gherkin pickles. This was a really fun starter! Mussels were prepared as requested with red sauce; the salmon entree was perfectly grilled; the burrata with tomato salad, was served with tasty, well cooked but not dried out shrimp Also of note, Market Grill offers a price fixe meal on Sunday (and 2 other days) that includes a starter, main entree and a dessert - very reasonably priced. The graham cracker crunch ice cream was very delicious- try it!! The service by Matt was excellent - attentive and gracious. We also really liked that the manager personally came over to greet us and asked how we enjoyed our meals. Also Market Grille has cozy outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. read more

I took my wife here on Mother's Day. The service was fantastic. My wife loved the seared scallops and risotto. My filet mignon medallions and potato purée were excellent. We both enjoyed our specialty cocktails. It was a really great meal and we are thankful. read more

The service was great, the food was only ok. My husband had the fish & chips & was disappointed. I had the beef short ribs & I have got to say it was "interesting ".( not in a good way) We were with friends who picked this restaurant because they had a gift card. We didn't want to seem like "those people" who send back their food for no reason, but mine was flavorless & hubby's fish was cooked in old oil. AMBIANCE: The inside is nice. You could go dressy or casual with either not being over the top. There is outside seating for warmer days, we went in January. Our friends had a good time and really that's all that matters. We had a fabulous time on New Year's Eve here. Their dinners offered were excellent. I had the rein fillet mug on with their garlic sauce which was epic , the creamiest mashed potatoes and asparagus. We went here for valentines day, it was a prix fixe menu costing $60 per person, we ended up getting additional beverages bringing the total to $160. What does not make sense and is the reason for me writing this poor review is the automatic add of $45 for gratuity to our bill. I understand some places add 18% gratuity for special occasions but this seems beyond excessive thats 28% gratuity automatically added to our bill without explicitly informing us. The service was ok but nothing to rave about. It is unfortunate because otherwise we had a good experience but still feel like we were taken advantage of. Just want to warn others that this may also happen to you and to be cautious. read more

Good food but place is showing its age Came here for a lunch, saw they were doing a prix fixed (they called it a price fixed) menu so I decided to try that out. The bartender was the only one serving the entire bar area, so he was rapidly jumping from tables and bar patrons. Didn't get as much attention being solo, but that's fine. The place was clean, but there was lots of signs of wear. Dirty glass panes, dust and debris on seats and light fixtures. the back of the padding on most of the chairs was disintegrating. The tabletops were worn and scraped. This normally doesn't bother me, but this place is trying to be a upscale dining experience. Lies of areas were clean and polished, but a lot wasn't as well. The food took a while to come out. The soup was very basic, really needed salt. The 3 shavings of parmesean really did help, but that was only 3 bites. The lasagna was buried in a cap of melted cheese. For some that's ideal, but in this instance it just cheapened the dish. Really did like the meat sauce, almost no ricotta, and the pasta sheets were aldente. The cookie was a cookie. Did appreciate the Mascarpone next to it. Very nice creamy bite to go with a mealy but chocolate laden cookie. Milk did cost extra though Overall, a disappointment but not so much so that it made me sour. It was okay food in a use-to-be fancy food place. I hope they get a chance to remodel and rebrand, cause they got a awesome view and good staff. They just need better food read more

My wife and I went to the Market Grille for Mother's Day. We went to the Market Grill because we could not get a reservation at The Mill on the River. The Mother's Day menu had set menu, with several options, for a fixed price and pre-set gratuity. We were seated in the outdoor closed in area; which was a little drafty. There were only 2 servers for the entire outdoor closed in area. Service was very slow. When the food finally came, it was warm; not hot. I had to ask 3 times for a napkin. I have been to this restaurant many times before and the food and service has been good. Unfortunately, i think that they were understaffed for Mother's Day. I don't like a guaranteed gratuity when the service is poor. read more

Nondescript location but great happy hour experience! Extensive happy hour menu- we tried the boneless chicken tenders, stuffed mushrooms, and buffalo cauliflower. Good portions and tasty! First time at the restaurant. Don't be turned off by the mediocre outside because as soon as you walk in the door, you know this is going to be a great eating experience. First, I like where we were seated. Not jammed into the very next booth or table in a crowded section. We went there for a late lunch, early dinner at 4 pm. Second, the waitress knew what she was doing, as did the wait staff. We shared stories and pictures about our four-legged canine daughters and felt relaxed right away. Third, and most importantly, the food! We started with a shared bowl of homemade clam chowder and it was delicious. I thought it would be your typical brand name canned food variety, but this chowder was truly homemade - delicious and worth the price. Then came our meals which were brought at the right time after finishing the chowder. My husband ordered the chicken and sausage rigatoni and I ordered the focaccia eggplant sandwich w/sweet potato fries. Right away, I knew I would only be eating half of it and I asked for a take out container right away. The food was delicious! My husband finished his bowl which was deceivingly deep and I ate my half of the sandwich. I'm half Italian and the eggplant was cooked perfectly with just the right bread coating crunch. Our drinks were delish too. I ordered a figgy spritz and my hubby ordered a local specialty beer. I wanted to drink all of mine but just couldn't due to feeling full and satisfied. We wanted to try the dessert, but just couldn't fit it in. When we got the bill, I was pleasantly surprised because we have paid much more for lower quality food and service in our hometown. Best happy hour around. Where else can four people get four appetizers and each have a cocktail for $60? The food is tasty. We shared veggie stuffed mushrooms, chicken teriyaki,hummus and sweet potato fries. The best part is they have a lovely outdoor patio to enjoy. I've been here multiple times for happy hour and enjoy most of the food we order, I've also been once for brunch, but last night I was there for dinner for the first time and it was delicious! THE FOOD: Happy hour--usually really great food but some items are hit or miss. For instance, the boneless chicken wings are akin to frozen chicken tenders they heat up and barely coat in sauce. Brunch--it is simply amazing. Honestly one of the best brunches I've had in the area. I got eggs Benedict and it was to die for. I'm a (self proclaimed) runny yolk aficionado and let me tell you they were cooked perfectly. We did the option to "complete the experience" and got boozy drinks and dessert. The drinks were good quality and the dessert knocked my socks off! I was expecting it to be meh but the cookie one was yum yum yummy! Dinner--I thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. 3 out of our party of 4 opted for the three course meal option (currently $30). They all loved their salads, their main course was good (though one asked for very light bacon and it had too much bacon and was too salty for their liking), and one of the desserts was a lovely portion. The other dessert option though was honestly pitiful. The strawberry shortcake was served in the smallest mason jar I've ever seen! It was smaller than the candle in the center of the table. They really should think about parties where multiple people get the 3 course meal, because it felt like such a rip off for two people to get these giant slices of lemon cake and the other person get a dessert fit for a Pomeranian. For my meal I got the chicken piccata without two of the ingredients. I was happy to see that they accurately cooked it to my request. It was an interesting take on chicken piccata, much creamier than traditional ones I've had, but boy oh boy was it tasty! And the massive piece of chicken (cut in two) was delicious and filling. Again, it wasn't as flat as typical chicken piccata and wasn't the traditional breading that makes a piccata, but it was good. THE LOCATION: Normally I would think "eww mall parking lot?" but Market Grille does a lovely job prettying up their outdoor space. The outdoor bar is really cool with the fire place and in the winter we like how it's closed in. The view from this area is also really nice (other parts of the outdoor seating somewhat look at Dave & buster's but whatever). I've also sat in the indoor bar area which is nice, too. For our most recent trip: Family was visiting and we decided to eat indoors due to the heat. We were put in a cozy side room with booth/chair seating. Family was impressed by the ambiance! THE SERVICE: When dining at the outdoor bar for happy hour the service isn't always the best. They are polite but not always attentive. I've waited a while for someone to come out and give us menus, take our order, or check on us for refills. Our latest trip inside was great service! I believe her name was Courtney. She was very polite, attentive, and made sure to check on things if she didn't know the answer to our questions. Overall, I would recommend Market Grille and plan to continue going back. First time I went to market Grill in the fall. I loved it. Food was fantastic. Just left there. And was so disappointed. Had the fish and chips came out lukewarm. Almost seems like it was frozen not fresh. My son had the ribeye and he liked that but he would not have told me if it wasn't good anyways. Met my friends for dinner and drinks at Market Grille. Very pretty entrance and so many cozy areas for seating. They have an outdoor patio with beautiful fall decor and heaters for those willing to eat al fresco. Since it was 50 degrees, we opted to eat indoors. We sat at a high top table with padded benches on one side and stools on the other. I personally am not a fan of high top seating but my friends got there before me and chose the spot. From where I was seated, I could see into the open kitchen with all the hustle and bustle of the staff. The ambiance was dark and very loud. The tables had cute little candles which helped brighten up the table. They use cloth napkins which I particularly like. I ordered a peach cranberry sangria which came in a huge wine glass. Not sure how much booze was in it, but it was light and refreshing. For my dinner, I ordered an appetizer because I wasn't very hungry. I ordered their Filet Mignon sliders. Very, very underwhelming. Chewy, flavorless and 90% bun to 10% meat. The prices are high and not sure if I'd recommend this place to anyone? I am struggling to decide if they might deserve only 3 stars. Stopped by Market Grille for lunch with my wife. The staff seemed stretched as it took a while to order then receive our beverages while the restaurant didn't look overly busy for a Wednesday afternoon. I ordered the fish and chips and was totally disappointed. The fish and fries were very greasy and tasted as if they were out of a Sysco truck and put into some aged fryolater oil. The coleslaw serving was a joke....it was served in a condiment cup the same size as the ketchup portion....not even worth serving, it was so small it felt ridiculous trying to put my fork into such a small serving. The first beer that my wife had received was flat and we needed to reorder. Her fried chicken sandwich and Caesar salad were ok. The restaurant seemed clean and well decorated. I'm so disappointed . Let me set a stage. In what's been the first bitterly cold day, we decided to have dinner at MG. We've been here several times and recalling our last visit, something was lacking but we chalked it up to maybe it been a one off. Well I was wrong. I entered the restaurant first as my wife was running a little late. I wasn't greeted at the door initially and was past over by the hostess for another guest behind me. I disregarded that, as it was TGIF and didn't want to ruin the evening. I ordered my wife and I cocktails to start and fried calamari. We got soggy calamari. I ordered the pomegranate gin cocktail for my wife. Completely off balanced with too much simple syrup. We couldn't taste the gin. My wife ordered the specialty soup. It saw brought out cold. I brought it up to the waitress and they brought out another soup. Second time, cold again! How does this happen? I asked for the manager at this point who apologized and brought out the third times a charm soup for wifey. The service was lacking tonight. Just the basics, Market Grille. If a drink is 1/4 of the way a simple, "can we refresh that for you?" Would suffice. Clear the first course plates before the main entree. I worked in many restaurants in my life and I would of comped the soup and even a round of drinks. Didn't happen here. Just the little details in the restaurant world make a difference. Maybe we'll return in the Summer, big maybe. read more

Went here after graduation last night. Ceremony ran long, they were very accommodating with our late arrival. Had a cozy table in in a separate small space with only one other table. Attentive service. Food was outstanding. We all literally loved our meals, as well as the apps. Portions generous. Despite being full (with leftovers), we ordered dessert...so glad we did! Cheesecake and milk and cookies were great. Unfortunately I live to far away to visit on a regular basis but would definitely go again and recommend to anyone looking for a place in the Manchester area. read more

Stopped in for lunch today and found that all social distancing and mask requirements have been dropped for diners and staff. Seating appears to be back to pre-pandemic configurations. Outside seating was available but given the heat wave we chose to sit inside. We were seated promptly with plastic coated menus. Server quickly arrived to take our drink orders. Haven't been to the restaurant in a while so I'm guessing they were still running with a limited menu selection but there was plenty to choose from. We ordered the New England clam chowder, Ny sirloin strip steak and the grilled filet tips. Bread (two warm rolls) was delivered to the table with cold butter. The chowder arrived with the usual oyster crackers. Chowder was okay, nothing amazing, and not much different from what I could do at home. Plenty of potatoes, very creamy chowder, bacon bits, and clam pieces. The filet arrived covered in a truffle garlic cream sauce topped with potato crisp and Parmesan crust, really not crusty because of the sauce. filet was ordered medium but came more on the medium rate side and wasn't the most tender filet that we've had. Meal included asparagus but it wasn't on the plate when it arrived. Mashed potatoes were substituted with sweet potato fries which were crispy and flavorful. 3 stars to this dish as it wasn't anything special. The NY was ordered medium rare and was cooked to perfection and had a good portion of roasted garlic herb butter on top. Very tender and flavorful with only one small piece of fat/gristle encountered. Very large portion (15 oz). Steak gets a 5. Meal should have come with broccoli au gratin but passed on that. Did have a large portion mashed potatoes, very bland and nothing different from what I could make at home. Asked for additional butter as the potatoes were on the dry side. So potatoes get a 3 Overall given the cost of the meal we were disappointed as we had high expectations given what we had heard about the restaurant and a previous experience several years ago. Sadly I don't see going back to the restaurant as I think it's over priced and the food wasn't that memorable. read more

I took out lunch from here. Lunch pixe fixe menu is good value. New England Clam Chowder was my favorite here. Ceaser salad was good too. Chef's seasonal tart was a good dessert. Fresh baked cookie was good as well. Pan Seared Blackened Atlantic Salmon was an ok entree. It could have had a little bit more flavor. Panko & Herb Crusted New Bedford Cod was my other entree, and it didn't have any flavor. Overall entrees should improve. read more

This is my second time visiting Market Grille - I went here for Thanksgiving last year and was pretty impressed. My partner and I ordered the watermelon cucumber martini which sounded exciting on the menu but was underwhelming in person. The flavour was not very exciting and the execution of combining these flavours fell short of our expectations. The salad was quite nice and despite its size, we had no problems finishing it. The portion was generous but perhaps there was a bit more spinach than necessary or not enough toppings? The medallions were really the star of the meal - the meat was so tender and juicy. I think sometimes medium rare tends to be on the medium size but this restaurant cooked it very nicely. This is more of a small detail but the variety in asparagus size was off putting as the thinner pieces were nice and tender but the thicker ones were a bit more troublesome to eat. The wild mushroom pasta was yummy and the cheese inside was not too heavy. The flavours were quite light but at the same time, it felt more like a spring themed pasta with some mushrooms as part of the recipe. It was still tasty and I would recommend it for anyone who likes ravioli. Overall, this is a nice place for nice food with decent prices. The staff is attentive even when it's busy and the ambiance is good while still being busy. read more

Overall the experience was simply OK. There was nothing exceptional about the restaurant. Similar to Mill on the River owned by the same parent company, the building is in need of a renovation. Renovations are costly so no stars lost. The issue was the food. We ordered oysters, scallops, steak, and couple drinks. The oysters were not cleaned properly. Very gritty. Clearly this is not Max Fish or Oyster bar so that was foolish of me to order oysters from Market Grille. I let the waitress know the oysters were not cleaned properly. When the check arrived I was surprised to see them on my bill. The sea scallops were small; global warming I suppose. The price was not small; inflation I guess. Overall I think this is my last time eating at Mill owned restaurant. read more

Looking for a good place or an anniversary dinner, so decided to come to Market Grille because my husband had never been. Made the reservation online, but I'm not sure if there was any benefit to it. I wanted outdoor seating, but there is not a way to request that online. When we arrived, there was a group of 6 who were irate and asked to speak with the manager as they apparently made a reservation for an outdoor table, but on arrival were told that there were no outdoor tables and they would have to wait for a table to free up. While this drama was taking place, the 2 hostesses were engrossed in the discussion the group was having with the manager and not paying attention to me or the other customers waiting to check in. It took several minutes and some effort by me to catch someone's attention before they woke up and asked if they could help me. I also asked for outdoor seating, but was unsurprised to be told there were no tables available. To their credit, the hostess staff went outside to check if there were seats at the bar for us, but there were none. We agreed to eat indoors, and the hostess strangely offered us seats at the indoor bar. We asked for a table, and they readily accommodated us. Our server was really friendly, appropriately attentive and the rest of the staff worked well together. Ordered the deconstructed tuna sushi and my husband ordered the crabcakes. The sushi came with fried wonton chips and was overall tasty, once I got past the somewhat pale color of the tuna, I broke into the tuna tower which was made up of sushi rice, mango, avocado, cucumber and tuna with a ponzu sauce. It was delicious but very filling to eat by myself. It is definitely good for sharing! I recommend breaking off pieces of the wonton chips and scooping the filling onto the piece. This allows you to have enough chips to eat most of the tuna tower. My husband also enjoyed his crabcakes. I ordered the strawberry cucumber margarita off their new Summer Drink Menu, asking that they make it spicy, which means that they muddle jalepenos into the drink. It was delicious with a salt rim. For dinner, I ordered the Lobster and Shrimp Scampi special, which came with a lobster tail in the shell, tender shrimp, linguine and a somewhat creamy scampi sauce and grape tomatoes. The tomatoes gave a sweet flavor to balance the garlicky scampi sauce. The dish came with a lobster cracker, lobster fork and towelette, but there was no need for the lobster cracker since the tail was split in the middle to make it easier to remove the meat. The tail must have been grilled, not steamed or boiled, however, because it was stuck to the shell and I had some trouble separating the meat from the shell. The lobster fork and towelette came in handy! The dish was well balanced and had lots of shrimp and lobster. My husband ordered the blackened mahi mahi and said it was excellent. For dessert, I ordered the carrot cake, which our server said was a great choice. He was not wrong! It was the moistest carrot cake that I've ever had. It was delicious, with just the right amount of cream cheese frosting and not overly sweet. Portions were appropriate, but after eating the entire tuna tower, I was stuffed and had plenty to take home for another meal. read more

Had a wonderful evening at Market Grille recently. The ambience on the patio was very intimate, even though I felt the heating vents were a little too hot at some points. We come here for a lot of family celebrations, and there's a reason why! I absolutely love their food and so does my family. I don't think we've ever had a bad meal here.. there housemaid hummus is fantastic and so are the fillet sliders if you're looking for something different. They always have seasonal drinks and anytime I've gotten one it's been enjoyable... You just don't want to stop! They are dessert options are also absolutely delicious.. and they often use local places for example, their ice cream or cookies. We have always had great service and it's a really big place with lots of seating, both inside and outside. read more
