My favorite shop in Manchester. I've been coming here for years - wholesale spices. They are located on Adams street, next to the dog training place. Spices/spice blends & other specialty spice items. This is a small (wholesale) shop where you can buy the spices at extremely reasonable prices. They also have a mail order business. A long time ago, they would have local chefs come in on a monthly basis to do a cooking demo. And, of course, you'd get to sample what they made. That was pretty wonderful. These events would sell out quickly, and I was lucky to have gone to a couple of them. They stopped long before Covid - I think it was getting difficult to find chefs that had the time to do the demos. I really wish they could start these programs up again.

Oh, this place is my own personal hidden gem. Tons and tons of spices, cheaper than Penzey's, and SUPER knowledgeable staff (who gave me the idea of roasting sweet potatoes with garam masala and fenugreek! mmmm). The Spice Mill distributes spices, herbs and seasonings in bulk quantities, catering primarily to the restaurant industry (it's a pretty big warehouse neighboring Manchester's rock wall gym), but luckily, it also houses a small retail shop. This retail shop carries every spice imaginable at amazing prices- ground spices, plus expensive items like saffron, as well as a wall of hot sauces, oils (even truffle oil), etc. Months ago, my boyfriend and I picked up a container of smoked kosher salt from the Spice Mill and we've been back for refills! On our most recent trip, we scored some blood orange balsamic vinegar and candied dried papaya coated with hot chili powder. Never know what I'm going to find here next!

Im Making BBQ this weekend and needed some bulk spice. If you are in the Hartford area you need to stop at the Spicemill. Its close to the mall in Manchester Its a small family business 100% focused on quality This is one of the few places that you can get the quality spices professionals use in retail sizes. Their main business is directly delivering spices to A list restaurants. ask For Cadillac Jack ..he knows his stuff

Just take a trip to Penzey's in West Hartford, and you'll see just how expensive.

We both ordered the veggie omelet which came with country potatoes and toast- we both had rye. All of it was hot and delicious! I had really wanted to try the poutine but I am a vegetarian and sadly, they don't offer it with a mushroom gravy, which I found at two poutine places in Quebec City. I guess there are not enough vegetarians asking for it around here. I gotta say it was super loud in here as the place was packed with a large group. I enjoy a lively atmosphere but it was just too much. I found myself wanting to rush to get out of there as the noise was overwhelming while eating breakfast. I prefer to ease into my day. I can't fault the restaurant for that. It's obvious people love this place and I do too!

Upon entering, we found the wait staff chatting with each other at the seats or serving the handful of customers in the dining room. Decor was heavily coffee influenced-- from the wallpaper to the wall art, it's obvious a cup of joe plays a role here. We ordered a smattering of breakfast dishes and of course, two of the poutine dishes. Overall the food was just ok, not memorable. The pancakes had a nice texture but were largely flavorless; maple syrup helped somewhat but that ended up being the only flavor. Eggs were serviceable, potatoes were fine. The poutine was okay. I've had much better in Canada. Theirs felt like a beef based gravy out on top of French fries, with pockets of cheese curds, which were the better part of the meal. The Quebecois poutine was better, with added ham & veggies to add some complexity. The downside of our visit came as we approached their closing hour of 2pm. The crew started cleaning up and vacuuming around us as we were still eating before close. I had a single cup of coffee, and when I asked for a refill, the waitress apologized and said they poured it out because it was getting close to closing time. Ironic, considering the amount of pro-coffee memorabilia around the restaurant. We hadn't even hit closing but pouring out the coffee while a table was still eating didn't cross anyone's mind. (Nor cleaning around us, passively encouraging us to leave.) The coffee wasn't removed from the bill in recognition that maybe they made a mistake. Overall.. eh. I was hoping for more, but it is what it is. I'm sure it's fine for the regulars, but this wasn't worth the long trip for what I was hoping was a callback to Quebec faire, in Connecticut.
