First time there with my wife. I had the pumpernickel bread with sauerkraut appetizer. It was great. My wife had French Onion soup. I then had the brats with warm potato salad. The brats were good and they brought out their own sauces which were pretty good. The potato salad wasn't like what you get in Germany, but wasn't bad. I had cole slaw as a side as well too but I think it was store-bought. My wife had scallops and she said they were perfect. Chocolate fudge cake for dessert. I don't think it was homemade but it was fine. We'll be back, I want to try the pulled pork options. The place was quite busy on a Friday night. Have heard from multiple people in the past 6 months that we need to go here for smoked meats and we're glad we did! Much better quality than some of the franchise options in the area, and at reasonable prices for large portions. We got the tater tot appetizer, which was more than enough for 3 of us. My wife got the 2 sampler - pork and brisket, and I got the 3 (same but with ribs). Meat was cooked perfectly and nicely smoked. They have 3 house-made sauces; all good but I wish they had a hot one too. Atmosphere was great - place was packed and from what I'd strongly suggest calling ahead or making a reservation. My family loves going to Point Phillips Hotel. Our favorite night is Thursday for the burnt ends special, but it's delicious no matter what day you go! My husband will order wings, and he says they are some of the best he's ever had. They smoke the wings and then you can get them fried so they're nice and crispy, too! Wonderful service and a friendly atmosphere make this a perfect 5. I'd recommend calling a few days ahead to make a reservation--tables fill up quickly for this deliciousness! read more

Point Phillips Hotel is the best barbecue I've ever had in my life period. I always get the wings as an appetizer and we request to have them smoked and fried. They are unbelievable. For the main course it's so hard to choose what to get so I normally go for a pick 2 or pick 3 combo. The ribs, brisket, and pulled chicken are my favorites. It's a lot of food when you do the combo meals so I almost always get to take some home. I'll also ask our waitress for a container so I could put some of their amazing barbecue sauce to take home with me to use with my leftovers. They have 3 different barbecue sauces on the table. Everyone in my group has a different favorite. My brother-in-law loves the vinegar-based sauce. The sweet barbecue sauce is my favorite. The side dishes are all out of this world also. Make sure you either make a reservation or do call ahead seating. This place is packed every day so make a reservation on weekdays as well. You might want to reserve a table for Saturday two days in advance. read more

While visiting friends in PA a few weeks ago we stopped by Point Phillips. The first night we decided to stop in without reservations - they were booked until 8pm! Too hungry for a 2.5 hour wait we reluctantly moved on to another restaurant. Point Phillips had an opening the next evening, which we gladly accepted. Before getting to the food, let me talk briefly about the atmosphere and this beautifully restored hotel. When we first arrived at the hotel parking lot I could immediately smell the smoker. This semi-sweet, smokey scent filled the cold winter air as we walked from the parking lot to the main entrance. Once inside the amazing smell was amplified as we were greeted by friendly employees and the sounds of laughter and conversation. There is a small bar area at the front entrance and immediately to your right (down a few stairs) is the main seating area and another side room for seating. It looks as though they could turn the side room into a private dining room for a large party or group. Note: This lower level IS wheelchair accessible. I cannot remember how old the hotel is, but the remodeling is nothing short of extraordinary. Perhaps I should watch more HGTV so that I can adequately convey my thoughts with proper terminology. I'll just say that it is "classically rustic." Go see for yourself! Food....[finally] The menu is fairly large and offers a wide selection of foods. We started with the rueben dip appetizer. I'm not a huge fan of reuben sandwiches, but LOVED the dip. Such a unique dish to complement the Point Phillips experience. We also started with the smokehouse wings (smoked and fried for crisp). These wings are slow-smoked with a blend of spices and as I mentioned before, we also got ours fried for a little extra crisp and more plaque in our arteries. I was a little disappointed in the taste of the wings. I feel as though I may omit the sauce and just have the wings smoked and plain (except for the blend of spices) next time. For dinner I got the simple, yet delicious pork platter. The BBQ was very good, with one caveat: NC BBQ is still better! I added sweet potato fries to the dish and was full and happy when we exited the restaurant later that evening. The service that night left much to be desired. I had an empty water glass on multiple occasions. The server was friendly, but would be rated higher if she had a little more interpersonal tact and was more attentive. No big deal, though! I am sure there are better servers at Point Phillips - do not let my service experience influence your decision to stop in. I will absolutely be back if/when back in the area. PA is a beautiful state and this hotel fits in perfectly. read more

The beef brisket and St. Louis ribs were delicious. The meat fell off the bone from the ribs. For my two sides I had a sweet potato and beets. Desert consisted of a peach bread pudding with caramel sauce, it was so outstanding I ended up getting a piece to go. After many months of trying we finally stopped in for dinner. Beers, cocktails and wine are plentiful. With themed season martini's and other fall drinks with no shortage of choices. There are numerous menu items from appetizers to main meals and specialties. After conversing with the pleasant waitress we decided on our choices. Burnt ends dinner and shrimp with fries were chosen. The drinks arrived quickly as shortly there after the dinners entrees were being set in front of us. The burnt ends dabbed with sauce and taste of exquisite pork. The shrimp I sampled were decent as any dinner or restaurant would expect. Now for the downside of our experience. The meal was ok, with the main offerings great but sides were less than appealing. I could make and cook the sides at home out of a can similar to their offerings. The sweet potato was underdone and the maple butter was lacking the maple. If they had pushed more homemade or spent a little more time with the sides I think it would be more appealing to the taste buds. I would say it's a good place eat and with fair prices. read more

This by far the best smokehouse I've ever been to! The homemade BBQ sauces were uniquely tasteful. The portions are big and definitely had leftovers to bring back. The sangria was very good. Waitstaff was unpleasant and food wasn't anything to rave about. Upon sitting , it was our first ever time there. The waitress acted annoyed that we did not know what we( a party of 5 adults) wanted to drink. Then when question on the price of the drink special for the night. Said she didn't know. Very rude in fact. Once food order was to the table the meat was very dry and a few of our sides were not hot. Waitress no where in sight. Then When most of the table was finished eating, the waitress then came back and then asked if anyone wanted more to drink. Almost 20 mins into the meal.!! This is only the second time I have written a bad review on a restaurant so that should tell you how unhappy I am with The Point Philips Hotel. My wife and I know good food from visiting some of the better restaurants in the Valley such as Beck's Land and Sea, Apollo Grill, The Edge, Hana Sushi, River Grille, Savory Grill and some of the finer restaurants in the New Hope area. I can tell you The Point Philips Hotel is mediocre on their best day. Service is very unprofessional especially the unfriendly bartenders that need training on pouring beers and friendly customer service. The bartenders do not know how to tap quality microbrews or imports and they defend their inexperience. Great if you like paying for 3" of head in your glass so you're only getting 10-12 oz. of beer for $4+. We tried this place three times because we wanted to support the new owner and was really hoping for a nice restaurant coming to Moore Township. All three visits they were out of several menu items and one day even ran out of desserts. I had baby back ribs on one visit that was from the end of the rib section that had little meat and was very dry. My wife had the same thing but from a better section of the rib. Both plates looked like they came from different restaurants. The owner actually defended the ribs I was served saying he cannot control the cut of meat from a steer! The waitress was friendly on this day but messed up just about everything throughout our entire meal, probably due to her spending more time outside smoking instead of focusing on good customer service. Last night was our last visit especially after I talked to the owner about our experience. The nachos we ordered were the worst I ever had and they were $11.99! Nachos consisted of all chips and hardly any toppings. No seasoning, bland and no flavor. The cheesesteak my wife ordered was only 1/2 full, all bread, over-cooked, dry, barely any cheese or sauce. The smoke meats are the most bland/dry I ever had. I almost forgot to mention that you get to wait 1-2 hours for this poorly prepared food. I was honest with the bartender with how we felt about our food. She said, "oh" and even admitted another patron complained about how bad the cheese (horrible/processed) was on the nachos and charge us for everything even though 1/2 of my wife's cheesesteak was going in the trash!! She didn't comp us anything and I could tell she didn't care. I pulled her to the side to explain why she was not getting a tip and why I am only paying 50% for the nachos and cheese steak. She had a real bad attitude with me and was very unprofessional. The owner called me the next day and defended his business, food and bartender. Apparently this man knows nothing about the restaurant business and should have stayed in the beverage business. He gets very defensive if you give him any criticism or if you have any complaints about his poor servers or low quality food. I have to say he did a beautiful job on the historic building but that is the only positive thing to say about this poorly managed establishment. read more

Stopped for a cold beer on a Sunday afternoon, and enjoyed the handsome interior and exterior renovations. Perfect spot to sit on the covered front porch. The bartenders seem quite young and tepid, not quite knowing how to strike up a conversation, or fill the sound void that' s created when there's no music or tv on - combined with no patrons, it was like a morgue, and it didn't encourage one to linger. That said, with iPad and earbuds in tow, I was a happy camper on a gorgeous Sunday. read more

I just went to Point Phillips Hotel this past saturday evening. This was our second time there. We were there when they first opened and are now considering this restaurant a family favorite. The first occasion we went, the food took quite long. Being aware that the restaurant was new, we understood that the establishment had to make adjustments. Given the atmosphere, the service, and the food so we decided to give it another chance. The improvement with timing was incredible. Since it was a saturday evening, there was a wait for a table. The hostess was attentive and right on with quoting us 30-40 minute wait. As we waited, I was happy with what I saw. The staff was friendly and worked well together. Now for the food, I had the full rack of baby back ribs and was more than pleased. I had lunch and dinner the following day. The flavor was perfect. My husband and I went here for the first time to celebrate a belated Valentine's Day after many people told us to check it out. We were beyond impressed by the atmosphere. It has a rustic feel. Their menu selection was creative and there was so many options to choose from. The prices were fair and the portions were huge. I wanted to give this more stars. I really really did. But this place just didn't do it for me. Last night we had a party of 6 at 5:30, we made reservations far in advance and were seated promptly. Our waitress was nice, but it took 30 minutes for our drinks to come out! The salads were delivered before we got our wine & beers. We were all sitting there wondering what was going on, and the waitress kept apologizing saying that she would make the drinks if she could. There is nothing to "make". I worked in the restaurant business, it paid for all my college textbooks. I met my ex husband bartending. I know how its done. It doesn't take that long to pour wine, and draft out 3 beers. So that right off the bat, left a bad taste in my mouth... Then I got my appetizers. I ordered the pierogies with sauteed onions & bacon. My pierogies were slightly burnt. But the bacon... that was black, burnt & crispy. Bacon shouldn't be burnt. Everything tasted burnt. I ate the pierogies, but not the garnish. My entree was the shredded chicken burrito with baked mac & cheese as my side. The mac and cheese was delicious as was the burrito. I had leftovers, so we took a small box home. I didn't order a dessert because I was still put off with my appetizer and how long everything took. Also, our waitress never described the BBQ sauces, so we had to guess what everything was. Was the place busy, a little. The bartenders should have had one more on bar, as a bar back, to keep up with things, or as the dining room bartender. The waitress should have been a bit more attentive. I feel she could have tried to "upsell" the specials as well, she just placed the cards on the table. Would I give this restaurant another visit. Maybe, only if someone else was paying. Its a shame, the restaurant was stunning, loved the floors and the sliding barn door inside. read more

I love this place. I have eaten here about 15 times since it's opened. Anything from the smokehouse menu is amazing. I haven't tried too many other things because the ribs and pulled pork are just that good. The picked beets are delicious! Desserts are good, especially when you get one of the house made ones. Great fancy martinis and good wine selection. The staff is always cheerful and helpful. I have brought friends and family here and everyone loves it. Building is beautiful. I live close by and I'm very happy that this place has opened. I've been telling everyone about it, but maybe I shouldn't have,...because now it gets crowded during dinner time... Best Ribs EVER! I lived in NC for many years and never had Ribs as good! The tomato based vinegar sauce is amazing...I wish they would sell it! Mac and Cheese side is always great too. Wait to be seated wasn't very long on a Wednesday night but the wait to get a drink, order our appetizer and get our meal was extremely long and it didn't even seem to be very busy.
