    Glamorous Rooms...

WOW!! Where do I begin? This was my first visit and last visit at Shiitty Rest. Checking In: I entered the "resort" office. I walk in, and barely even get a hello or a welcome.. They don't even take your temperature like every other hotel I've been at this summer. At first I bought a day pass, because that was my original plan, but extended my stay for 4 nights. (One of the Worst Decisions of MY LIFE). The rep who was checking me in was so miserable! She didn't offer me a tour, tell me about the resort, or even give me a map of the property! They didn't even hand me a map. Didn't tell me any rules or regulations eitherI had to go back into the office to find a map. All she said was, "that's the pool." Really? I've been in and out of customer service for 25 years, and I have never treated a guest/customer the way I was treated. The Room: So, I get to the room, and it's like an oven, there's a couple of dead bugs on the floor, and 2 of the drawers in the dresser smelled like mildew. Also, regarding the room, it bounces! If people are walking on the deck or even the couple next-door walking around or having sex, the room bounces like a basketball! Oh, and there's no room service or fresh towels or fresh sheets, or fresh anything. The Pool Area: I was there for 4 nights and a half of a day (I'll explain the half day later if you're still reading), and did not once see anyone cleaning the pool, wiping down chairs, checking chlorine, or anything else regarding maintenance or cleaning, especially during COVID!!! Disgusting! Bugs in the pool. They say the hot tub is open either 24 hours or until 2AM. We never got an actual time, but either way they closed it at 11PM! Food and Bar: Apparently, there was an electrical fire in the onsite restaurant, which they failed to mention on the website. Instead they have this food truck there that only has food if you're looking to carb load, and it's not very good. You're supposed to get a free breakfast, which you do, but don't ask for a side of fruit or an extra bagel, because they'll charge you. Oh, and for your "free" breakfast, you have to tip a MANDATORY 18% tip, which you're forced to do at the bar as well. Pretty sleazy! With A Cherry On Top!: I met this girl on bumble, and we had been chatting for a few days. I told her that I was on vacay, and that we should wait to meet in person until I left. After going back and forth for a while we both agreed to just meet and get it over with. So, she came up to the resort. She was able to come right to my room. Nobody asked her to register or anything when they opened the gate for her. She was supposed to stay for a drink or 2, but that was to be it. However, she got friendly with this swinger couple and started hanging out with them. I left to run some errands, and come back and see her with the female swinger with containers of food! I told her she better not have charged the food to my room and she nodded her head in agreement I then went back to my room until the next morning, because I was extremely hurt that she came to visit with me, but ended up with the swingers. Oh well. The next morning I checked out and was told that she purchased food under my account, that I did not authorize! The check out lady told me that I gave my permission for her to get food, which I DID NOT! I told them that if anyone should pay for the food, it should be the swingers, but they continued to charge me. Any other hotel or resort would try to accommodate their guest, but not this place. I said, "This is BS," and the lady replied, "Well, you don't ever have to come back." "This place is a shit-hole anyways," I said, and went to the pool. 15 mins later this lady with a security guard told me that I am no longer allowed on the property and can never come back! They would not refund my money for them forcing me to leave before I was planning to. The security guard watched as I went to my car, and made sure I left the premises. You would think I was a criminal or something the way that I was treated! I have never been treated like this anywhere, let alone on vacation! As an influencer, I am really looking forward to sharing this to my 25K plus followers!!! There were so many better ways that you could've handled this! I'm not a criminal, geez!

Breakfast is complimentary with choices of making your own waffle, fruit, cereal, scrambled eggs, port sausage, juice, and more. Coffee and tea is available 24 hours a day and when we arrived on Saturday afternoon, there was fresh popped popcorn in the lobby. The breakfast was not to my liking but it's a great option to save money and with the various items available, you can find something you like. I had the waffle, scrambled eggs and pork sausage and the eggs tasted like powdered eggs which they likely were and I don't eat a lot of pork but prefer pork bacon versus pork sausage. The taste of bacon is better for me. I had a room on the second floor, room 204 to be exact. TIP: Avoid this room if you want to open the shades and see outside. This room looks directly at the front entrance overhang so you get to see the roof of the entrance and a little of the driveway. Just terrible. This is approximately 21 minute drive from Blue Mountain Skin Resort.

The great: We almost booked through a third party website because it looked like it was $20 cheaper but we ended up reviewing the discount tab on the Inn at Jim Thorpe website and noticed a 15% discount if we booked over the phone. Booking over the phone saved us about $50. The staff was kind, professional and helpful over the phone and in person. They even gave us fresh baked cookies when we checked in. The inn is an old, crickety building and the rooms are small but clean. There's a stairwell and small elevator once you're inside the building. I don't know if there was a handicap entrance into the building. The parking lot was easy to find but it is quite narrow, which should be expected in an old building/old town. Ice and a filtered water fountain is located in the basement and they have a vending machine too if you're looking for a late night snack or sweet treat. The not so great: One thing did feel misleading. The staff said the restaurant attached to it ( Broadway something or other) is the only place that serves breakfast & they require reservations. The Inn even provides a $10 off per person coupon for the restaurant but we found a few options for Nitro cold brew, coffee, tea and baked goods right down the block. Personally, this felt like sales tactic to make us think breakfast would be scarce. Maybe that's the case during peak tourism season but it didn't seem to be the case when we were in town. Overall we'd definitely stay here again. Between the trails, the cool architecture and the good food, we found Jim Thorpe to be a fun place to explore.

Live entertainment both nights (fri & sat) with some good specialty drinks. The bartender Tyler was AWESOME. He made our night more fun than we expected. Upstairs bar was good enough, but Tyler downstairs was the best. Other bartenders had little to no personality. The one even seemed annoyed we were ordering drinks? Strange. Both nights we ate dinner at the restaurant, Broadway Grill on the main level. First night was good... second night was a complete 180. Breakfast was good both mornings we ate there. You do need reservations for breakfast which was easy to do online. Plus a $10 off per person each day at breakfast for staying at the Inn. The second night they ran out of the most basic side - rice. still put mushrooms in a pasta dish that was repeatedly asked not to be put in there. A side of fries that were supposed to come out with a meal was supposed to be delivered soon after.... But another persons meal was sent back (awful taste to the chicken parm) and fries were given in place of the meal. Still no fries for the other person. Dry salmon but the sauce saved it. Mashed potatoes cold. The manager was very understanding & i appreciated her kindness. The waitresses were all very nice too. Overall - I'd still go back during another season as we were here in winter & not much was open. I'd stay here again and just plan for dinner elsewhere.

So I wanted to check it out and then I read that they have a bar in the house open to the public. The house is very cool looking from the outside. It's lit up pretty nice and there's a parking lot half a block away. When you walk in you notice it is a huge old school house like hundreds of years old. And there's a little bar set up in a corner. After you get your drink, you can find a seat somewhere in the house and enjoy your drink. There's also a little board games, a fireplace , and a piano if you choose to play it. I had a great time at this mansion. I think we had about three drinks so I got a nice little buzz on. Also, the bartender was very nice, I do not remember her name but I told her I would be writing a review and she got really happy with that. She also told me a spooky ghost story from one of the rooms in the house. I won't spoil it but it was a good story. I would definitely return to this house for a drink and possibly to stay for the weekend because it is also a bed and breakfast. Also they do a murder mystery weekend there but I did not experience that.

The murder mystery itself was the highlight, the storyline was engaging, and the actors were clearly well-trained in improv and very kind. Murder Mystery: 8/10 The room was fairly standard, what you'd expect in an old-timey house. No TV or modern extras, but there were plenty of charging outlets, which was appreciated. Room: 7/10 The food during the stay was incredibly disappointing. Most of it felt like reheated microwave meals. Breakfast included eggs, bacon (very thin, broken pieces), cubed potatoes that were oddly watery, ham slices, stale danishes, cereal cups, and a parfait option that had run out by our 9am time slot. Dinner was similar in quality. I chose the cheese ravioli, but despite being second in line, it was cold. The same watery potatoes from breakfast were served again, along with green beans. The only highlight was the coffee, which was good. Food: 2/10 Unfortunately, the parking situation is very poor. There are only 5-6 spots directly outside and a few more up the hill behind the carriage house. I was dropped off at check-in and informed staff that my boyfriend would be arriving late. I was assured there would be parking available and that staff would be present 24/7 to assist him. However, I woke up to a call from him saying he couldn't find parking. I went downstairs to get help, but no staff could be found. Not wanting to disturb other guests, I eventually gave up, and he had to park on the street in the neighborhood on top of the hill overnight. At breakfast, we were briefly told about additional parking behind the carriage house, but there was no apology or acknowledgment of the issue from the night before, nor any attempt to make it right. Parking: 1/10 The staff overall seemed inexperienced and, at times, unprofessional. While I empathize with younger staff members, there were several uncomfortable moments--such as hearing an employee joke about "killing" another staff member over a small mistake, and staff walking away mid-conversation while we were trying to ask follow-up questions. Staff: 4/10 Overall, there were some enjoyable elements, especially the murder mystery, but the experience didn't quite match the price point. With a few key improvements, this could be a much more worthwhile stay.
