Breakfast potatoes
Sayonara T.

Its a small place but man is it good! The menu has a variety of items, we have only been there for breakfast and it has not disappointed! We usually stick to our usual, steak and eggs, and a huge pancake and breakfast potatoes. The steak is always cooked just right and the potatoes amazing! And the pancakes I mean just look at it. Our server, Ellen, is simply the best. Didn't matter how busy it was she made sure to check on all her tables! A staple in the area for sure, stop by I promise you won't be disappointed.

Point break cafe is a neighborhood favorite dive bar and comfort food diner all rolled into one. it is spacious and has a full kitchen. I was there on a Sunday during brunch and it was very busy. Nonetheless the kitchen is fast and they are pretty well staffed so food came out pretty quick. I tried the number one house omelette, it was a bit of a creamy mess and the pesto cream didn't really have much flavo. There's also supposed to be artichoke, there wasn't much. I've definitely had better omelettes. Overall, if you're looking for a bar or diner in this area, this does the trick.

Hidden gem on Shelter Island. Great breakfast spot ; the wraps and buttermilk pancakes were delicious, the pot coffee was strong. Friendly service from the time we entered the restaurant. The decor was a bit dated but gave it a good, retro vibe. Well done.

Seagull looking for a quick meal on unattended plates...!

Nestled in the heart of Point Loma, this place is not fancy, but is a local favorite, especially amongst the sailors and live-aboards. When I still lived here I was within walking distance and came here to eat at least once a week. The service is usually great and the food delicious. The portions are large and easy to split with your date and both will walk away full. My favorite add on to breakfast is their pineapple coconut pancakes. Delish! Beware of naughty sea gulls who will pounce on unattended plates if dining outside, and be ready for dogs trying to attack each other from under tables. It's Cali. Everyone has to bring their dog... Whatever. Just don't bite me and stare me down while I'm eating.

Wow. What a hidden gem. I walked here from my hotel looking for a sit down American breakfast. They delivered on all fronts: food, ambiance, friendless, and options. I am here dying the holidays and it's decorated in a cozy manner. I love it. Will probably be back again before I go home I got the point break breakfast with egg whites. Exactly what I was after

Popular for breakfast. At 7:30am, only three of us, but by 8am, over 30 people. Had the fun breakfast with French toast yesterday and biscuits and gravy this morning.

No frills hole in the wall place for locals. Don't expect a tourist destination. Decent food with great almost pre inflation pricing and warm service

We stopped by for lunch before leaving Shelter Island, heading out of San San Diego. It was on a Sunday about 2:30 so a weird time. Main reason we stopped they offer free parking lot and others places charge. Other's post in Yelp "Dive atmosphere " it is but there are tables inside or out and bar top with nice staff members. Theresa answered all our questions and brought out a nice cold beer. Tiki Hubby ordered shepherds pie and I had to try the mozzarella logs as great reviews about them. Well I have to say we were not disappointed. Cheese logs had a delicious crispy light crust that was cooked perfectly so as biting into you get a warm gooey soft cheesy stringy taste with a fresh homemade tomato dip. So good I hated to share. I did share tiki hubbies shepherd pie, a really large casserole dish with bubbly hot thick gravy topped with mashed potatoes and cheese. The filling was dark gravy filled with chucks of lamb, peas, carrots, green beans with your choice of a side , so good. See the photos. Delicious and great choices

I love this bar. Not a tourist in sight...Happy Hour menu is amazing, and the bartender is super friendly. It is dog friendly, with "Yappy Hour" all day, every day, with their own menu. Fun place!

Food was cold! Sausage gravy cold. Biscuits gummy and tasted glutinous! Not fine dining for the price! A fast food place would be better.

I told my friend the food was worth the wait. After an hour we got sat at the bar and our first server was friendly. There was a transition of servers (not sure if he left for the day or went on lunch) and the new server would check on everyone at the bar except us. My water remained empty for most of the meal. The bartenders in front of us were clearly having a conversation and I didn't want to interrupt. My friend claimed her Irish coffee was sour? And didn't realize cheese came on a side of eggs (she should've checked when she ordered but the server never clarified either). We weren't checked on during the meal until the bill came and by then we just wanted to leave. I ordered the fluffy pancakes and found an egg shell inside. The cracking of eggshells in my mouth made me loose my appetite. We paid (still tipped of course) and left. It was great the first time and mediocre the second time. I prefer consistently in service, especially if I'm waiting an hour to be seated.

We had spent most of the day around Bankers Hill and decided to grab an early dinner at Books & Records. Getting reservations was easy, but from the moment we walked in, the ambiance alone already had us sold. The place was still pretty quiet when we arrived, and to our surprise it was happy hour, so naturally we ordered a bunch of items off the menu along with drinks. Everything was ridiculously good. Not one miss. What really stood out though was the attention to detail. The host brought us a complimentary glass of champagne after hearing we were celebrating our anniversary. Small gesture, big impact. Stuff like that matters. As the night went on, the restaurant filled up, live music started playing, and the whole atmosphere just came alive. Our waiter never rushed us once, which made the experience feel even more intentional and relaxed. We were able to actually enjoy the moment instead of feeling pushed through dinner service. Good food is one thing. Great hospitality is another. This place gave us both. Next time we're in San Diego, we're absolutely making it a point to come back. Lovely spot. Lovely experience.

Dennise seated us and was so kind, she even shared a few of her favorite menu items since it was our first visit. Our server Anelle was great as well. We tried the Tacos Dorados de Papa, El Sampler de la Abuela, and La Bomba, and for appetizers the Burrito de Machaca con Frijoles Puercos and the sweet corn tamal (which ended up being my favorite). Cocina 35 is a popular Mexican brunch spot in San Diego, with 3 locations in the area. I secured a…read morereservation online for Sunday, and I'd recommend that given it does get busy. Cramped and loud, but nicely decorated and serving solid authentic meals. Mexican Latte-9/10: Pretty straightforward. A solid, nostalgic spiced coffee. Mazapan Latte-10/10: A novelty menu item, both nostalgic and tasty. With a sweetened condensed milk rim and mazapan dust, this sweet coffee is a must order. Chilaquiles-10/10: Cocina 35 knows how to throw down the best Mexican breakfast item: the chilaquiles. The Verde was good but didn't pack much heat. The Salsa Secreta was our favorite; a creamy 3-chile salsa with an artichoke flavor, this one packs an enjoyable amount of heat. The Chipotle was another yummy and creamy option, making your nose run but still very enjoyable. Frijoles Puercos-7/10: They were pretty standard. I've definitely had better. They served their purpose as a good side. Concha Rellena-7.5/10: Another creative menu item. Whipped cream and whole strawberries sandwiched between two french toast-style concha halves and drenched in cajeta. It was sweet and warm, but would've been more enjoyable with fresher and/or sliced strawberries. Fun to order, but a regular concha is better suited for enjoying with your coffee. Service-6/10: Again, Cocina 35 gets packed, so service isn't as attentive. Our party had to order and wait for water, ask for refills, call the server over for more orders and again for the bill, and wouldn't speak to us in Spanish. I witnessed other tables be spoken to in Spanish, but upon ordering I'd only be responded to in English. I know I'm a white Mexican, but native tongue is nice when I make it clear I'd like to order in Spanish. Overall, a fun spot with solid menu items. The samplers are pricey but probably the best bang for your buck. They do the classics very well, and are very much worth your visit!

"Over medium" eggs came barely cooked, still had clear egg gel floating around. The table next to us had the same issue. The fried chicken, which is beautiful looking, was strangely flavorless. Another table was also talking about this issue. Bacon was way overcooked as well. I also really dislike when food timing for a table is way off. I rather it stay in the kitchen under a heat lamp and come together rather that spend 5 minutes staring at my food being polite. So, for a fun "wow that's a ton of food" experience this is it. But I much prefer quality ingredients and attention to detail and flavor over unfinishable portions at a premium price point ($100 after tip for 2 ppl).
