Been going past Point Break for years, finally stopped and it was a great experience. Kind of a time warp, old school bar and tables, clean and vintage vibe. My buddy and I split a BLT and a Rueben. My friend had chicken fried steak and he said it was DRY :( The "waitress service" was the worse I have ever had. Hopefully you don't get Ellen as your waitress. I think she must of worked at the old Dicks Resort. I felt like I was a Dicks Last Resort that was located downtown San Diego. Her "style" was very similar to theirs. The chocolate chip pancake for $6 was to die for!!! It's perfectly crisp and has a lot of chips, no syrup needed. Service is pretty fast to bring waters and get your order. They also check in and bring extra silverware too. Inside is a cute old school type dive bar like you're in a pirate ship, so cool!! read more

One of the worst burritos I've ever had in my life. The bar smells like junk if you're looking for a good breakfast place avoid this place.

Its a small place but man is it good! The menu has a variety of items, we have only been there for breakfast and it has not disappointed! We usually stick to our usual, steak and eggs, and a huge pancake and breakfast potatoes. The steak is always cooked just right and the potatoes amazing! And the pancakes I mean just look at it. Our server, Ellen, is simply the best. Didn't matter how busy it was she made sure to check on all her tables! A staple in the area for sure, stop by I promise you won't be disappointed. read more

I've driven past this place multiple times while staying at shelter island but never stopped in, but man am I glad I did! It's a cute little dive bar / diner. I had the most amazing server I wish I would've gotten her name. She was just the sweetest lady! We got the fun breakfast with blueberry pancakes, which she suggested my son and I to share since it was a huge serving. She was right! We both were so full after sharing the plate. She gave my son some cuties while we were waiting on our food and some candy after we were done. The blueberry pancakes were to die they were soo delicious and you could tell the berries were fresh. Point break cafe is a neighborhood favorite dive bar and comfort food diner all rolled into one. it is spacious and has a full kitchen. I was there on a Sunday during brunch and it was very busy. Nonetheless the kitchen is fast and they are pretty well staffed so food came out pretty quick. I tried the number one house omelette, it was a bit of a creamy mess and the pesto cream didn't really have much flavo. There's also supposed to be artichoke, there wasn't much. I've definitely had better omelettes. Overall, if you're looking for a bar or diner in this area, this does the trick. read more

The host was AMAZING! She was so kind and caring. I ordered the Mexican scramble and it delivered. Tasted very authentic and the refried beans were delicious! The corn tortillas were likely nuked in a microwave (ugh) but they still complimented the dish nonetheless. Nestled in the heart of Point Loma, this place is not fancy, but is a local favorite, especially amongst the sailors and live-aboards. When I still lived here I was within walking distance and came here to eat at least once a week. The service is usually great and the food delicious. The portions are large and easy to split with your date and both will walk away full. My favorite add on to breakfast is their pineapple coconut pancakes. Delish! Beware of naughty sea gulls who will pounce on unattended plates if dining outside, and be ready for dogs trying to attack each other from under tables. It's Cali. Everyone has to bring their dog... Ellen our server is by far the best server I've ever had the pleasure of having serve me. She is just a sweetest person and gave recommendations to places nearby. Things servers just don't take the time to do anymore. It was my birthday and she spoiled me rotten with an Irish coffee that didn't disappoint. The food was amazing. We stopped by for lunch before leaving Shelter Island, heading out of San San Diego. It was on a Sunday about 2:30 so a weird time. Main reason we stopped they offer free parking lot and others places charge. Other's post in Yelp "Dive atmosphere " it is but there are tables inside or out and bar top with nice staff members. Theresa answered all our questions and brought out a nice cold beer. Tiki Hubby ordered shepherds pie and I had to try the mozzarella logs as great reviews about them. Well I have to say we were not disappointed. Cheese logs had a delicious crispy light crust that was cooked perfectly so as biting into you get a warm gooey soft cheesy stringy taste with a fresh homemade tomato dip. So good I hated to share. I did share tiki hubbies shepherd pie, a really large casserole dish with bubbly hot thick gravy topped with mashed potatoes and cheese. There is no reason NOT to try this restaurant...they have a large and varied menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, serving breakfast til 3:00 if that's your preference. The food is FANTASTICALLY DELICIOUS and well prepared, the price, for the size portions and excellent quality, is amazing. The wait staff is super friendly. Sarah (dinner waitress), and Ellen (breakfast) were both gems. Over the course of a long weekend, we ate here for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
