We were hankering for brunch & we ended up stopping by during the Sunday rush, so we waited about ten minutes for a booth, as we did not want to sit at the counter. We ordered a wet breakfast burrito with bacon on the side and corned beef hash with scrambled eggs. Both entrees came out quickly, and they were fresh, hot and delicious as usual. Service from the regular team of folks working the dining room was efficient, friendly, and kind - as they always are. They made us feel welcome & took good care of us. The restaurant still has its vintage feel, and it is homey & comfortable. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are good-sized. We love Margarita's, and if you are looking for an unassuming and old-school, diner-type of breakfast & lunch resto with Mexican flair, then you too, will love Margarita's! Gracias! read more

I really love this spot for breakfast with my dad. We go about once a month, and the food is always consistent. OB is a nostalgic place for him, and we love walking around the beach afterward. The service is friendly, and we never have to wait long for a table. It is a classic diner with Mexican options, which gives everyone something to enjoy. Since I do not eat meat or eggs, I usually order the chilaquiles and substitute potatoes instead of meat and eggs. I absolutely love their hash browns. The portions of the hash browns have gotten smaller, and my dad has to order an extra side now. He loves the biscuits and gravy. Fire little Mexican breakfast spot in OB right on the main strip. You can't go wrong with anything after their Mexican breakfast menu. My man got the huevos rancheros and was super happy with it. But my food honestly was even better. I got the enchilada ranchero with eggs. I told the server to pick my options and she gave me one cheese and one chicken and my eggs were over medium. Both of the enchiladas were awesome, but the chicken surprised me how tender it is! Our server was super nice and fast and very enthusiastic. We will definitely return. read more

I haven't been to Margarita's in about five years, and it is exactly how I remember it: delicious, "greasy spoon" Mexican food. I had the Huevos Rancheros and my fiancée had the Enchiladas Rancheras with two eggs. My dish was great--the Mexican rice was perfectly cooked and flavorful. The beans were good, though a little on the salty side. The coffee isn't the best, but you can't have it all! My fiancée's dish was the standout; the chicken was tender and the cheese was delicious. Service was quick and friendly, with '80s hits playing in the background. It's a great spot for a tasty breakfast, and we'll definitely be back. read more

Went to Margaritas for breakfast and it didn't disappoint! I had the omelette with sausage, bacon, and ham--super tasty and filling. The breakfast burrito was also good, though I felt it could've used a little more flavor or a good salsa to kick it up a notch. Great hole-in-the-wall place on Newport. We went twice so far and each meal was delicious. The breakfast sandwich had a little too much butter on the bread, but the flavors were amazing. The machaca is not wet, so it's perfect in my book. The gravy is creamy with lots of sausage. The servers are great, very friendly. read more

Took my wife and daughter here for a late Sunday breakfast, early lunch. I have to say, this place did not disappoint. I had the chicken chilaquilles, with beans and rice. The chicken was tender, moist, and well seasoned, tossed in a fantastic green salsa. The beans and the rice were excellent! My wife had the chile verde, it was the best I have ever had, and I am a Mexican food snob! The sauce it was in had a great seasoning, the meat was tender and the serving size was pretty amazing. My daughter had the carne asada plate, well carmelized onions, the carne had a nice "kissed by the flame" taste, almost similar to a fajita type serving with beans and rice. The real treat here was the service. Our server, April, was taking good care of a number of tables and keeping up with all of them. We never once had to flag anyone down, they were very attentive. I only have one negative thing to say about this place, they don't allow tips on credit cards. My wife and I didn't have any cash on us and April definitely deserved a 20% tip. I hope they reconsider this policy after reading this review, the servers were all really working hard to make sure people will come back for good service and they are getting shorted by this policy. If you notice, almost every review says something about the great service, this should be rewarded. We will be back, I want to work my way through their menu. read more

Wasn't place we originally thought, but glad we stopped in for breakfast. Classic diner type of breakfast- special was 3 eggs, bacon, hash browns, & choice of toast. Great mix of Mexican and American breakfast and lunch options. I got the carne asada omelette with a pancake and coffee for $20 and change. A guy in my group got the breakfast tacos that are bigger than you'd expect. This is what I'd get next time, for sure. Our server was busy but nice and quick. It was a cute little mom and pop restaurant in Ocean Beach. I think Machaca was definitely my favorite. Pancake was nice and fluffy, but wish the waffles were more crispy on the outside. Kids enjoyed chicken nugget but it was nothing special. Waitress was super sweet and attentive and she made sure we enjoyed our meal. Tip: make sure to bring cash! It's cash only. read more

My fave when I crave Mexican food. The best chicken tostada (I get the small one on a corn tortilla), chile relleno, and chicken soup I've ever had, and I've lived in S.D. over years. Everything is outstanding but those are the items I tend to order. Sorry for us but glad for them that they close at 2:00 pm. It's a family-owned and operated place so I get it. My now-retired husband used to handle their refrigeration and vouches for their clean kitchen, kind of important. read more

Took a little trip, I did. Back to my hometown of San Diego. I had a grand time showing my spouse around my old haunts. I would have made a grave error if I didn't include Ocean Beach, San Diego. I learned to surf by the old wooden pier. One of the things I remembered and loved about OB was the restaurants adorning Newport Ave. There was always at least one that catered to the locals. It was a place that had good home-cooked meals at a very reasonable price. It seems Margarita's has picked up the torch and feeds their customers good, rib-sticking, meals at a price you don't need to take out a loan to pay for. I lived in several areas of OB and have so many excellent memories accumulated over the years. It was an excellent adventure to find Margarita's and relive a bit of my past while sharing experiences with my special someone. I give Margarita's a thumbs up. Walk around a bit, you'll love it, then saunter into Margarita's for a revitalizing meal. read more

*Pandemic update: before it started they were just finishing up their back patio, and the air is fresh and the food is fine.* We've been coming here for years. They have a solid line of great cooks, experienced staff that does not constantly turn over, and an interesting menu to keep you coming back. I like to order from the "Breakfast Combos" because you get so many unique flavors all on one plate. And it's not all carbs, you get protein with the combos for a really fair price. I love this place! My boyfriend and I come here all the time for their chili verde breakfast. The pork is cooked perfectly and the sauce is delicious. Their tortilla and salsa is also amazing. Service is always greatest and prices are manageable. The ONE thing I recently found out is that their fries suck. We ordered a half order of carne asada fries once and realized they use steak fries. Steak fries for carne asada fries just doesn't work for me. Other then that everything else we've tried on menu (chicken fried steak and pancakes) are great! read more

This Is your basic local diner with Mexican food options included. Staff is very friendly and attentive to tourists and locals. I liked the fact that they had many breakfast options for both big and little appetites. Prices were decent for the food. My husband had one of their Mexican dishes and he absolutely loved the flavorful rice and beans. Most of the time these types of sides are neglected ... Not here .... The waitress said they made vats of the stuff in house including home made salsa. I highly recommend this place. Great service, never had to ask for refills or anything. My boyfriend and are new to San Diego and were exploring OB when we stumbled across this gem. Eggs Benedict was one of the best I've ever had and it's been my go to breakfast since I was like 7. Our server was so friendly and brought out menus quickly since it was self seating. The outside seating was the perfect spot for some people watching and generally enjoying the weather. Now in terms of the food.. we enjoyed the little pickle platter. Unfortunately it came out much earlier than the rolls and we were quite hungry so we ate most of them before our rolls came out. They would have been great pairings with the rolls themselves. The kabocha squash roll was so unique and surprisingly tasty. A sweeter creamier roll for sure. The salmon skin roll was a nice savory balance to the squash roll. I'd have to say the salmon skin roll was my favorite. We'll definitely be back to try some of the other rolls!

And this review is after that experience, so we can compare and contrast things like pricing and quality. When you come here you must bring a loaded wallet. To try a sour beer or any of their Russian River beers, (which was a surprise to us that there even was beer coming out of Russian River, a place I love for wine) .... is $19 for a bottle. And if you've never tried a sour beer and no one likes it, there are no returns. You pay your money and you take your chances. They are creative at The Joint. I mean an eel roll with macadamia nuts is a brilliant twist on sushi. The second thing we try is their soft shell crab roll. Delicious. Everyone at the table 'seconds' these comments. I ask someone on the way in, seated at a table eating sushi if it is good. He says: "I'll let you know". Later, he comes back to our table to let me yes! It's really good". So is this a good place to go for Sushi? The answer is yes. Is it a little confusing as an asian fusion place to have so many diverse choices? The answer is yes, but I also admit I do like all the options. Again, they call their Happy Hour food 'Tapas'. Is that Spanish, or is it just me? Japanese fried chicken or an arugula salad or oysters? lol Your taste buds must travel all over the place and that's hard on the palate and my headspace of 'what am I eating'? Is it overpriced? The answer is yes! And if I'm being honest, it surprises me that no one else on yelp is mentioning this. If money is not an issue and you want good sushi, our group recommends trying The Joint. Just don't count on happy hour having happy prices. $4 for an oyster is not happy! It's regular priced. Maybe even over priced for a happy hour menu where oysters come in at $1 and $2 for happy hour. And today, they are all out of oysters. lol We usually just tell you what to order when you go to a restaurant. This is the first time we have felt the need to let you know what you're in for, price wise. Sorry to the wonderful staff and great chef. No idea why they need to represent themselves as 'happy hour noon - 6pm every day', leading me to believe there is good pricing. But it's not my zoo, not my monkeys. Honestly, this place surprised me…read more First parking will be a disaster. It's in the heart of OB beach/downtown area. We got lucky enough that we got a spot right in the front. But most likely you will have to park more than a few blocks away from this area. We went to their happy hour. In this economy, we can't be picky. They are very dog friendly so they were a lot of calm trained dogs. We have tried their brisket bbq taco, french fries and I also had their spicy margarita. Brisket bbq taco: the meat was tender, I really loved the combination of spicy salsa with cold corn and warm cheese. I don't know why but it was so good! Fries were also great, you can't go wrong with some fries with cheese. And I think the lady who was working as a bartender did a good job a making spicy margarita. She did say she just started to bartend so I was decently impressed. Little bit water down but now I'm just being a little picky. Overall, this place was surprisingly good and if I'm around town again, I would probably come back.

Onion rings had a crunchy batter and delicious onion flavor. 2nd visit I tried the brisket and french fries. Fries had a crispy outer layer and fluffy inside. Loved the seasoning salt and the fried potato flavors. Brisket had a nice smoky flavor from being smoked in red oak. Beef was very tender. Tasted great with a dab of the sweet and smoky sauce. Staff was friendly and efficient. They were also very informative answering all my questions. This is a very relaxing place to eat. Ocean breeze is refreshing. I love relaxing here with a drink in hand watching the world go by.

The band was great, the sound system was on point and the bar was very busy without feeling overly packed. We went upstairs to use the bathroom and get our drinks before the show started which was definitely the right choice. Not nearly as busy up there and only one person ahead of us to use the bathroom. I saw some folks eating the infamous OB Noodle House wings and taking peanut butter shots, I had half a mind to stay up there for a while but we didn't want to miss the band! There's also an awesome rooftop patio with a view of the ocean that we didn't go to that night. Highly recommend checking it out for their happy hour. Back downstairs for the show and I've gotta give their staff props, they did a great job sweeping through the crowd and picking up empty drinks throughout the night. My only beef with this bar is, there were so many people smoking on the patios that you couldn't get away from the smell pretty much anywhere inside. I don't remember that being an issue on previous visits but it was horrible that night.

Loved the decor of skateboards and license plates. Will definitely dine again next time we're in town.

This spot is the only restaurant I've seen that served plain ramen noodles, perfect for my picky eating child. And meanwhile, I could enjoy some delicious ramen! The cocktails looked innovative. I wish I had gotten one! Check out the bathroom! There are fun, funky lights that my kids couldn't stop talking about.
