AWARENESS: Waking up hungry for breakfast on May 2, 2025, the wife and I decided to try The Good Egg because of its close proximity to where we staying, the Point Loma Annex which is directly across the street on Harbor Blvd. * I believe this location was once the Smash Burger but, I'd have to review my past reviews and photo's of this location to be sure. NARRATIVE: The good Egg's front entrance faces Lanning Road and the first thing you'll notice is, they have seating just outside their entrance doors. Once inside, you'll notice a bright and airy interior and extremely attentive staff. The wife and I looked ver the menu and my eyes went directly to their Salmon Eggs Benedict. I'm not too sure what the wife ordered. Our orders were placed with "to go" instructions and we were told it would be a 20 to 30 minute wait so, we headed next door to Starbucks to kill some time. Once our orders were picked up, we headed back to our cottage to check out the eats. My Salmon Benedict looked great and I appreciated the fact they placed the hollandaise sauce in a separate container, not to contaminate the food. My order was very good but my wife had a mixed onion about hers. Maybe it was the time delay from carry out to the actual time we ate or, maybe something wasn't cooked to her expectations. I really don't recall what the issue was, I just know when I returned for the same breakfast the next morning, she declined in joining me. SCENE: The Good Egg is located at the corner of Lanning Road and Harbor Blvd, right next door to the Starbucks. The location can get busy, especially on the weekends when joggers park their cars in the lot and take off for their runs or walks over Harbor towards the wharf. RECOMMENDATION(S): I thought my food was good but it was not exceptional. Would I eat here again? Yes, It's good. It's just not great.
Arrived here for breakfast at about eight o'clock on a saturday, service was very quickly sat down in about two minutes. Food was good, the tuna melt was really flavorful. Try it. No complaints very chill place, prices average $15+. Open concept dinning areas, very well lit with natural light.
My new favorite breakfast place in Liberty Station. We usually go to Breakfast Republic when craving a good breakfast, but my sister told me about and suggested this gem, and it did not disappoint! The place is clean and cute with ample seating. Service is friendly and expeditious. Staff is nice and attentive. Food is excellent with huge portion sizes! I highly recommend The Good Egg! We will be back!

Due to its location on the periphery of Liberty Station, I have never stumbled upon the Good Egg until now. One thing I appreciate about this establishment is that they took reservations for large parties! It's surprisingly difficult to find a brunch spot that'll take these big groups. My party of about 16 people came here for brunch on a weekend morning, and it was already lively with families and patrons. One thing to note for reservations: Your entire party must be present before you can be seated. I understand that, due to our party size, it is difficult to expect amazing service. Our waitress was great, and she did her best to take all of our food and drink orders. It may have been a painful and slow process, but it was super chaotic, so I think she did a great job taking charge. Nonetheless, one small complaint I have is that my water was not once refilled. It's honestly not a big deal, but I finished my water before the food came out and it hadn't been refilled by the time we paid the bill. But again, I know it's difficult to wait on a huge table. My main gripe is with the portion size. I ordered the Classic Benedict with fruit, which came out to be around $16. And for the portion size (see below), I felt rather underwhelmed. Let's just say I finished fast, and was left unsatisfied. Judging from the other plates my party ordered, I think the other dishes may have been a better bang for your buck. Overall, I had an average experience at the Good Egg. I don't think I'd go out of my way to come back though, unless I had another huge brunch party.
This is a cute little spot right on the outskirts of Liberty Station. Stopped in after a workout and some coffee, the chilaquiles, and pancakes to split. Pancakes were good. I asked what the protein options were for my dish and they said egg, and chicken. I wanted to add steak but they told me it would be an additional $15 which I thought was really overpriced just for a side of steak to add to my chilaquiles. Never had an up charge like that for a side, so I decided to pass, which made my dish just ok, not very much flavor. The service staff was nice but didn't really come back to check on us after we got our food, and also would take our small plates away but leave our big plates, despite being empty sitting on our table for the duration of our meal. Overall, the price of our food, and inconsistent service, our experience was just ok.
Came here on a Saturday around 9:00am no wait to be seated. Seating inside and outside. Bathrooms in the back. Service was friendly, music a bit loud. Ordered stacked pancakes with bacon strips. Size was huge however taste was okay it was a bit dry and heavy. Bacon was okay more on the toasted side. Strawberry's were on the sour side. Price point is high so expected more better tasting food.
When this place opened it was amazing. The atmosphere is bright and cheery. Each time we go back, the food isn't as good. It is a shame. The restaurant is suffering because fewer people are coming in and they are cutting staff. The one stable thing is that Jade is terrific and keeps the place going with her service. She remembers your likes, dislikes and allergies every time. Now for the food...I ordered an omelette with goat cheese, spinach and tomato. The tomato was not great and having lots of it did not make it. Better. The spinach was fresh but was not cut up which made it difficult to chew. Overall, the omelette was overcooked and the English muffin was lukewarm. The fruit was the best part of the meal. This used to be our goto breakfast place, but we are now searching for a new place because of all of the disappointments..
Breakfast is my favorite meal so The Good Egg sounded like a great option for me. I arrived at about 12:30 looking for a quick brunch. The restaurant was empty except for me and the staff with was great for me because I was in a hurry. The waitress was fantastic and ready to answer any questions I had. The star of the menu was (of course) egg related foods. I ordered the Santa Barbara omelette (grilled chicken, avocado) and a coffee. The food was ready within 10 min, fresh and hot. I got the fruit as my side which was a delight, with every major melon and berry (including raspberries!) represented. The entire seating area was spotless and well appointed with matching silverware and dishes. The bathrooms were very clean. The ambiance was laid by Latin music which wasn't overly loud. I'll definitely be coming here for lunch ask week!
This place is good, we chose it last min and I was not disappointed. One thing I have to say and the reason I decided to give it a 4 instead of a 5 is that the portions are HUGE and we weren't warned. I wish we would've been told, because we ordered a good amount of food and couldn't finish it all. Otherwise I got the French toast and the side of country potatoes. The size of the side is pretty big so if you're wanting to get them maybe share with someone. The French toast was very good and I'll definitely get that again if I go back. Overall good, it was quite busy when we went so we had a wait a while for a table and after we got a table but if you have time and are hungry definitely give this place a try
The service was nice with kind waiters and an average wait time. The ambiance was awesome with some blue lighting and good greenery. The food was pretty good I ordered a Legend Sandwich with a side of Country Potatoes. The legend sandwich was amazing but the country potatoes were okay.
Fresh pancakes were right on point! Service, ambiance, & music are very inviting with a welcoming vibe for breakfast & brunch.
Breakfast enchiladas: (3/5) Their green sauce, lemme tell you, it had a GOOD KICK like for reals. I was shocked because it's hard to find spicy things at non-Mexican spots. I had to ask for a side of more sour cream to tame the heat. It was also vegetarian but it was missing a protein. Hubby also ordered a side of bacon for us. Even though our food was all ordered at the same time, the bacon came out WAY later and we were half way done with our meal. So the first half of my meal was lacking bc I was missing the bacon. Once we had it, it just brought my dish all together. Drip Coffee (2/5) It tasted burnt. I had to add A LOT of creamer to hide the taste. I get they don't do espressos and things like that, so I would hope that they would do their drip coffee well. Service was okay. The ambiance felt clean and open.
Got an eggs benedict with fruit. Everything here feels very.....standard? It's a simple and unassuming breakfast place. Great texture on both the poached eggs and the English muffin. It's maybe just a tad on the smaller end, but it's relatively affordable. Coffee had a light, even taste. Fruits were fine. read more
I agree with a few of the other reviews that that service is lacking and the food is just OK. Notably, it is not that flavorful. Which is fascinating, because The Good Egg has this very visible sign right when you walk in praising their 2023 Beacon Readers Choice Awards for the area's best breakfast. This is not an award-winning restaurant or experience. The first feeling I had was that the Good Egg reminded me of a hotel restaurant. The ambiance and decor are generic and stale. The team barely gave a good morning when I walked in, and I noticed they had the same nonchalant attitude toward other guests. I will say that that I was impressed with the cleanliness, and the menu is extensive. with breakfast and brunch served daily. The menu features lighter options, like yogurt parfaits and avocado toast, a variety of Eggs Benedict, hearty skillets, classic breakfast plates, omelettes and Southwestern-inspired dishes, such as chilaquiles and huevos rancheros. They also have pancakes, a Belgian waffle and French toast on the menu. It seems the stuffed French toast is popular. There are also sandwiches, wraps, melts and salads. They also seem vegetarian and kid-friendly. But, goodness, the food is quite bland. It has no soul in it. I will say that the bacon is outstanding. But all else -- underwhelming. read more

We were in the area where I buy my Tea bags and we were looking where to get breakfast nearby and we ended up at GOOD EGG. There are plenty of selections for breakfast, and we had: * ITALIAN JOB OMELETTE - italian sausage , mushroom , black olives , bell pepper , provolone cheese topped with/ marinara * BREAKFAST STACK - 2 eggs , 2 sausage patties , cheddar cheese , avocado , tomato serve in English muffin *GREEK SKILLET - spinach , mushrooms , artichokes , onion Feta * FRENCH ROAST COFFEE At first, we only got the ITALIAN JON OMELETTE but we checked in on Yelp while eating and saw that we got 20% off for our first time dining here, so I ordered another item on their menu to try. The GREEK SKILLET was too bland, I kept adding Salt and Pepper and that just wasn't making it good, so I set it aside and didn't eat it. My BREAKFAST STACK was presented beautifully, but nothing extraordinary in the taste, it was just okay. But my husband's ITALIAN JOB OMELETTE was good and full of Flavors. The service was fast and great, there were a lot of parking spaces around and the food was just okay. read more

If I couldn't give this place a 10 stars I would. I tried it out this weekend and let me just say amazing! I ordered the chorizo skillet and it was delicious! Great flavor and good size portion. Pancake was good as well! I was seeing other food orders come out and let me say I'm so looking forward to coming back and trying some of their other food options! Great service overal and good ambiance. Highly recommend it! Can't wait to be back! read more

Food usually is delicious. SHAME ON MGMT. 25+ people seated at tables and 6 waiting at the door and only 1 wait staff!!! Luckily we are resilient but I actually feel guilty eating here putting this workload on 1 person!! Mgr should get their ass over here to work and help out. Shameful!!! Update: the breakfast was overdone and awful. read more
The owners of Oggi's Sports | Brewhouse | Pizza in Point Loma have opened The Good Egg in the suite where a Smashburger used to be located. Both were in the same plaza across the street from Liberty Military Housing. The inside dining area was clean and spacious while two tables were available right outside the front entrance if you wanted to sit under the sun as there was no shade or overhead canopy. The three-page menu featured the standard breakfast and lunch items for a brunch spot. From the list of seven omelettes, The Bird was my pick with hash browns as the chosen side. Shredded chicken, mushroom, tomato, cheddar cheese, and avocado were the fillings. The portion size and quality of the food were decent for the price. Because I sat at the counter near the register, the service was prompt as the waitstaff was hanging out in that area in between watching their tables. While the menu may not be as expansive as some of the local breakfast chains, it's a solid option for a morning or early afternoon meal for residents in that neighborhood. read more

Good location near where we were staying, ample parking. This bright and sunny restaurant opened around 6 months ago, and I certainly hope it succeeds! Service was quick, seating is plentiful. It's much bigger in here than we expected. Perfect for breakfast/brunch. There's even counter seating in front of TVs, and a fresh bakery case with croissants, etc. We ordered: blueberry pancakes with sausage patties and a croissant sandwich with ham and fresh fruit. Serving sizes were large and delicious, and we left thoroughly sated and set up for a day of adventuring. The ladies' restroom is the most thoughtful restaurant restroom I've been in. It's decorated with positive art, has nice hand soap (not the standard wall pump), and the best part-- something I've never seen before but think it speaks volumes to how much the owner "gets" us womenfolk-- little pink sanitary bags to wrap used pads/tampons before placing in the plastic bag-lined receptacle. What cute spot in one of my favorite areas in Point Loma. Breakfast is delicious and large and small portions. The mimosa flight was refreshing and the coffee was comforting. The ambiance is relaxing and gives a vacation feel. Calling this my new brunch spot!! Food was too good to stop and take a pic. Trust, it is good read more

Fair but not good enough to either go back or recommend. I had coffee and a Greek omelet. Eggs were folded over holding some vegetables that could have been classified as most anything else. And I had a side of two sausage patties which were thin and slightly undercooked. Taste was indifferent. She had pancakes and bacon. Both were just ok. Total price was very high considering the location. Background music prevented conversation even across the table. Not recommended. read more
