If you enjoy repeat visits from your installer to fix design and measurement errors, misrepresentations from your designer, and being the target of hostile and profane language from a delivery worker in your own building, then Plus Interiors is the company for you. We spent over $20K on custom cabinetry and received damaged parts, misaligned installation, a miscut sink cabinet, a defective drawer insert, and multiple unprofessional interactions. The range hood cabinet was fabricated too tall. Instead of acknowledging the error, they insisted the problem was elsewhere - until we demonstrated the hood still wouldn't fit. Only then did they admit the issue. Their handling of the appliance garage lighting was even worse. They routed lighting channels and installed sensors in both compartments, then backtracked and claimed the upper lighting wasn't part of the design. Suddenly, it became a "complimentary" feature - conveniently after the system failed. The excuses and contradictions are exhausting. Their behavior shows a clear pattern of denial, bad faith, and cover-up. Avoid this company if you expect professionalism, accountability, or respect for your time and money. read more

Update: Someone from Plus Interiors came by and fixed the lighting;. Friendly and quick turnaround in response to our request. He also added three handles to cabinets; forgot about that issue in my initial review. Bumped up the rating (probably a bit higher than 4 stars). Everything looks good and works! Original review: We had cabinetry and lighting for a kitchen and two bathrooms designed and installed for our condo in Honolulu. Not as much attention to detail and quality as we would have liked. First, they apparently didn't get the specs right for our cooktop so our contractor and the stone fabricator had to figure out a way to adjust things to make it work. Second, the ribbon lighting installed over one of the bathroom vanities is falling out. We've contacted them and will see if they fix the problem. Stay tuned for an update. Requested a consultation through their website (it says you'll receive a response within 48 hours), waited two weeks and received no response. I then physically went to the store in the Kahala Mall spoke to the employee on the California Closets side and gave her my information. She said she would pass it on to designer Corrine Davis. Waited another month with no response. Tried going through their website again and finally received a response asking what services I was interested in!! I responded over a week ago and haven't heard anything back. I'm done. If this is how this company communicates, I can only imagine what happens when the job starts and problems arise. Exotic Woodlines has a showroom within the Pictures Plus store in Kahala Mall. Although I think this space is to showcase their work as I never see a designer there. I contacted a designer who came to my house and helped me plan my kitchen renovation. The designer, Joanna then prepared the shop drawings and we met to select the wood. The cabinets are manufactured in Hawaii and so far, they are beautiful. Joanna is responsive and efficient. Warning: they are not inexpensive as the cabinets cost me the equivalent of a small car. But you can tell that Exotic Woodlines takes pride in their quality and workmanship. The woodwork is top-notch and so are the hardware that they use. I have only good things to say about our experience in working with LJ at Plus Interiors. We remodeled a kitchen and bathroom at the same time, but obviously the kitchen was much more complex. Through good, thoughtful suggestions from LJ, we went through multiple designs to get the plans for the kitchen right. It was not thinking just cabinetry but the utility of the kitchen and how it would work, which includes consideration of cabinet styles, cabinet placement, sinks, and appliance locations. Without the designs, it was hard to imagine. Heeding LJ's suggestions, we constructed two single walls into double walls, rerouted the water pipes, prepared new electrical outlets, and removed tiles to install new flooring. LJ had wonderful suggestions for the kinds of sinks, appliances, and flooring to seek out, and even provided names of vendors. There are many choices of the types of cabinets, handles, and countertops. It is not easy without guidance. When we finally started the activities, California Closets, related to Plus Interiors, came to do the demolition of the old kitchen cabinets. That began a preparation stage when all the electrical, plumbing, wall construction, and other tasks were done. Then came a few week wait for the cabinets to be constructed. Because LJ was so meticulous in measuring and checking everything, the installation of the new cabinets was perfect. A carpenter from California Closet carpenter with the same quality mindset as LJ put in all the cabinets with precision. They were checked and adjusted. Appliances fit perfectly. Last came the countertops (Ace Tile), turning the kitchen into a wonderful place to cook. Without LJ managing this project, the result would never have reached the high quality that I hoped it would be. read more

Product Quality - 5 Craftsmanship - 3 Experience/Knowledge - 5 Customer Service - 5+ Price - $$$ Summary: The price, while on the higher end of our range, was at a reasonable premium of a Home Depot and Lowe's quotes that we received and way cheaper than other custom cabinets that we looked into. The quality of the product seems top quality with Italian built hinges and drawer closures, better than the cheaper Made in China hinges, which break within a year (from experience). The product was also approved for commercial purposes from our Architecture friend. Joanna was very helpful and knowledgeable in helping us layout our kitchen cabinets and select our design. She helped us catch small details that we would not have caught on our own or if we went with the big box retailers. Their Customer Service was excellent throughout the process. Joanna even helped us do a site visit to and discussed with our contractors to ensure the cabinets fit perfectly. While we did have some craftsmanship issues, Tom (Production Manager), more than made up for in his Customer Service. They owned up to their production errors and continued to provide replacements or missing pieces throughout the process until everything was perfect. I would use them again! Experience: As the usual homeowner interested in renovating our home, we started our shopping by visiting the various outlets to look for ideas and get an expectation of our price range. After determining a reasonable price range, we continued to search for ideas, until a friend recommended Plus Interiors. We've been there a couple of times to look at their products, but thought it was odd to be purchasing cabinets from a store located withing a retail mall, fortunately we did. When first entering the store, it seemed rather quiet and awkward, as there were very few staff on the floor (this was after 5 pm), so we had to request for assistance from the staff. Our friend asked us to request for Joanna, which we did. After first working/communicating with Joanna a few times, we provided the specs to our kitchen. Joanna is very knowledgeable and detail oriented and thankfully she was. She caught the small details that we would not have considered, which would have been a nightmare and we would have had to change after the fact, something we may not have gotten from Home Depot or Lowe's. Joanna is a very busy person, sometimes it feels like she's the only staff in the company. So yes, sometimes it can be a little difficult to get a hold of her, which was especially true while we were in design phase. However, we were very proactive in communicating with her and reached out to her in many different ways until we got her attention. Once we committed to a design and placed the order, we received the cabinets on schedule as promised. However, upon receiving the delivery and taking inventory we discovered there were a couple of missing pieces, which we were able to work directly with Dawn (production staff) to clear up and have the missing pieces delivered. Over the next couple of weeks, as our contractor installed the cabinets, it came clear that there were also a few production errors in the construction. However, we chalked this up to part of the renovation process; you'll always encounter some issues during renovation/construction. I was very pleased with how the company handled these production issues. They did not doubt me on my reports of the issues, and owned up to the mistakes. Then they immediately connected me with Tom (Production Manager), who kept in touch with me throughout the renovation to continue to fix the issues until it was completed. read more

After working with Exotic Woodlines for our most recent renovation, I do not recommend and will no longer be doing business with this company. Our family is renovating our apartment and hired Exotic Woodlines to assist us with selecting, ordering and delivering all of our cabinets. From the beginning we were rushed into meeting with Joanna Makua, our assigned designer, because she was going on vacation. We selected all of the materials and parts she said we would need prior to her vacation, put down the 50% deposit, and reminded her multiple times to place the orders as soon as possible so that everything would be delivered by our agreed upon date. She did not follow up with us regarding if the orders were placed, and could not be reached while on vacation. After multiple attempts at trying to speak with someone at the company, everyone was on a different page and no one could tell us the status of our order. Weeks later, after she returned from her vacation, we were told that the orders had not been placed. Without any apology, she informed us that the orders have now been placed (one month after our initial agreed upon date), and we have not heard from her since. The contract we signed after the initial delivery was delayed clearly stated that all materials were to be delivered by July 31st, and it is almost September and we have still not received all of the parts necessary to put our cabinets together. Communication with Joanna and the rest of the company have been unprofessional and our renovations have been extremely delayed as a result of the shortcomings of this company. Response to comment below: Hi Renee, Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my review. Yes, we understand cabinet jobs are complicated by nature, which is why we turned to your company for your professional services rather than trying to do the project ourselves. We acknowledge that changes were made to our order while conferring with Joanna about our various options, but if that meant delays and that your company would not make the promised deadlines, that should have been properly communicated to us as these changes were made; it says in your response that the job was finished on July 31st, but we had not even received all of the parts for our cabinets by that date. Handles had not been ordered for the cabinets even though we were told all of the parts we needed were taken care of, and when we followed up with Joanna she said she had not ordered any because we had said we were "interested in them", but had not asked her to place the order. As a professional service, I don't quite understand how she thought we wouldn't need handles for any of our cabinets, or that Joanna had not thought to follow up with us regarding the handles before placing the order for all of the other remaining parts. Your response mentions that you have not received any other negative reviews, but I see that I am only the second person to review your company on Yelp.
