I was surprised to get ShopRite thin sliced deli meat on my $15. turkey sandwich, really? My white wine was served warm. Unfriendly service.

Celebrated my 40th birthday here, and I'm so glad I opted to not go to a generic restaurant in New York City. Before even getting into the restaurant, you pay $20 for valet (or self-park for free). Once inside, the ambiance is pretentiously fancy. The food is generally good, nothing spectacular, and priced to match the pretentious ambiance. Most of the dishes contained a puréed food of some kind to be pretentiously fancy. Why so many purées? What's wrong with whole vegetables? Your customers are not babies. Dishes that I would probably order again if I return: * Bluefin tuna crudo with avocado purée * Coffee-rubbed Berkshire pork chop with sweet potato purée * Duck with Brussel sprouts, mushrooms, and cauliflower purée * Roasted carrots with sumac Dishes that were fine but not memorable (1 star off): * Brioche rolls with carrot butter: could not taste any carrot flavor in carrot butter; a good plain butter would have sufficed; it also came with a side of smoked salmon roe which I thought was pretentious and unnecessary * New England scallops with carrot and coriander purée, spring pea and mint pesto, and mushroom crumble: the mushroom crumble was good, but the scallops were over-salted * Pan-seared salmon, sunchoke, spring herb purée, salsify, corn, and pommes purée: TWO purées...yay... * Cavatelli with lamb ragu: ragu is basically a tomato purée * Roasted Brussels sprouts and butternut squash For dessert, our waiter recommended the butterscotch pretzel sundae, which has been on their menu for years. The blondie bites, salted caramel, hot fudge, and salted caramel ice cream did sound good. Too bad they forgot to bring it out for us (1 star off), so we never tried it.

Located in a restored 1847 colonial farmhouse, it offers a perfect balance with a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere and top notch service and food. I really appreciate how they strive to incorporate locally-sourced ingredients in the menu whenever possible; you can definitely taste the freshness. I also have to mention that their seasonal cocktail menu is definitely worth checking out. Since it's in season, we started with the freshly flash-fried asparagus tempura ($15) appetizer. It was very tasty and well-presented, with a portion size was perfect for sharing. For my entrée, I ordered the tempura shrimp bowl ($27), a southwestern-inspired dish with four perfectly fried tempura shrimp over a bed of frisee and farro, topped with charred corn and avocado. It was incredibly tasty and way more filling than I expected. My dining companion selected the jambalaya ($28), a cajun-inspired treat packed with shrimp, andouille sausage, and chicken. She absolutely loved it and brought half of it home to enjoy for lunch the next day. A special shout-out to our server, Chris. Even though he's only been there a few days, he was fantastic and made us feel like guests for a meal in his home -- attentive, friendly, and totally on top of everything. Gladstone Tavern is a must-visit whether you're a local or making a drive from outside the Peapack-Gladstone metropolis. PRO TIP: Gladstone Tavern features live music on Friday nights (8pm til 11pm) and Sunday (1130am til 230pm).

[Blowing on my nails.] The menu is a mix of American comfort food and gastropub classics, but with flair, and has a bit of everything to satisfy different palates. Our eyes were probably bigger than our stomachs as we ordered 2 apps, 2 entrees, and 2 cocktails, and it was an enormous amount of food. The portions are definitely what you'd call hearty, and everything was very tasty. Thursdays are all day happy hour so we picked the fried calamari appetizer at the HH price (still a full and generous plate and didn't seem like a downsized version) which were tender and well-battered, as well as the hot honey wings which were meaty and substantial. The short rib parpadelle with housemade pasta and a perfectly medium-rare, well seasoned hanger steak with truffle fries completed our satisfying and belly-stuffing meal. The cocktails are serious as well - the presence of a drink with egg white is my personal litmus test for a bar that knows what it's doing, so the Thyme to Bloom special had my name on it. I'm salivating just looking at photos of dishes I didn't order, and am already plotting my return!

Once you enter through the store, there is a sign to wait to be seated. The place has a nice and bright rustic vibe to it. I really liked the decor and table setup. Even the napkins had a rustic vibe. Started off with the potato scoop ($16) which was my fave item. The potato was shaped like the Fritos scoop chip, and the cheese dip that came with it had chunks of cheese in a melted cheese sauce. For my main, got the pulled pork sandwich ($16), which came in a pretzel knot bun and creamy slaw. It was solid meal and very filling. Other mains ordered were the roast beef "pho" style sandwich ($16) which I had a bite of and it was good and not what I expected thinking roast beef. Roast turkey ($16) was warm and also tasty. Each of the mains came with a side of potato salad. I will be back to try the sloppy Joe and their dinner meals. Chef/owner Scott came out from the kitchen to greet us and other patrons, and was gracious to everyone. Onto the food. The Duck Tacos and Mussels were very tasty. I think I might put a call into Chef and have him make me a bottle of that Mussels sauce to take home with me. Then came the crisp Caesar Salad, which kept everything bright. To finish, we had the Black Cod and Duck Confit, both of which were very well balanced and cooked perfectly. Oh, and the Guava-glazed Brussels Sprouts were a perfect side. Next time, I want to try one or two of their desserts. All-in-all, we had a great experience, and the night was a success. Chef, see you soon. I might just bring a large mason jar for some sauce!..
