We went to brunch here last Mother's Day and had a wonderful experience. The food and service were excellent, so my husband made 10:00 a.m. reservations again for this Mother's Day. Unfortunately, this visit was a huge disappointment from the moment we arrived. We were the only people there, yet the floor around our table was dirty with old Goldfish crackers and blueberries. We ordered the banana bread appetizer, an egg tortilla bowl, a western omelet, and two kids' waffles. The banana bread appetizer didn't come out until the rest of our food arrived, and everything was ice cold. The breakfast potatoes tasted old, as if they had been made the day before. While it wasn't ideal, we tried to be understanding since it was a holiday and the staff may have been overwhelmed. The highlight of the meal was the fresh-squeezed orange juice that we enjoyed with our BYOB champagne. However, no one checked on our table during the meal, and I eventually had to stop someone just to ask for the check. When reviewing the bill, I realized the kids' waffles seemed more expensive than expected. Sure enough, we had been overcharged for each one. When I politely questioned it, I was told, "That's the price in our register," and the staff gave me a hard time about correcting it. After asking again, they reluctantly handed me cash for the difference. The waitress was rude and dismissive throughout the interaction. Overall, it was such a disappointing experience, especially compared to how much we enjoyed it last year. Sadly, we'll be choosing a different spot for Mother's Day brunch next year. read more

Worst dining experience I've had in a long time--if not ever. To start, the restaurant was uncomfortably cold. Our waitress was just fine, but it was clear she lacked proper training in basic service and restaurant etiquette. Honestly I don't think she wanted to be there, was wearing sweatpants and could barely hear her when she spoke. The issues with the food began right away. I ordered a fruit cup for my son and was initially told they didn't have fruit--despite it being listed on the menu. After pointing that out, it was brought to the table, but the fruit was clearly spoiled, especially the strawberries. They had tried to cut around the rotten parts, which was honestly disgusting and concerning given this was being served to a 2-year-old. We immediately sent it back. I ordered a burger with sautéed onions, but it came out with just a few small slivers of what turned out to be pickled onions instead. The burger itself looked incredibly lackluster. I ended up sending it back and, at that point, was completely turned off from ordering anything else. I also wasn't asked if I'd like to order a replacement, there was no apology, no accountability, just a blank stare while the plate was taken away. To make matters worse, we were still charged $6 for the fries that came with the burger, which my son had started eating before I sent it back. I hadn't taken a single bite of the actual meal. My husband's "Kobe beef" sliders came with bacon that was completely inedible, so he had to remove it. My mom ordered eggs Benedict with Canadian bacon but received regular (inedible) bacon instead, and my father's meal was served cold. Overall, the quality of the food across the table was just poor. The bathrooms were also in rough condition. The women's toilet seat was loose and coming off the hinges, I nearly fell. The bill came to $146 after tip, which felt like a complete waste given the experience. Afterward, we actually drove across the street so I could grab chicken soup elsewhere because I left hungry. This was our second time giving this place a chance, and unfortunately, it will be our last. read more

The reviews are eye-opening.. I agree with others about the slow service which often seems to prioritize the loudest patrons. If you're sitting quietly and just want to pay and leave, it can be frustrating. However, I like to support new businesses and this one has a lot of potential. The neighborhood is charming and quaint, it's where the annual Christmas tree ceremony takes place! Just be aware that in winter it can get very cold by the window so dress accordingly. On the plus side, the chicken wrap is delicious and the baby greens with toppings are fresh and tasty. read more

I'm so confused about the great reviews for this place. That was the whole reason I came. And I'm sad to write a bad review but I feel like someone here has to be honest. 1. It was 15 degrees outside and the temperature was essentially the same inside (maybe a little higher?) because every door had an aggressive draft. We felt bad leaving so we just moved tables instead. Our server suggested moving to the center of the room so we did. Even then, we had to wear our coats the whole time. The tables around us had to do the same thing. This was the first thing to go wrong but I looked past it since it's not their fault. 2. We were one of 3 tables in the whole restaurant and service was terrible. My coffee was cold, and when I asked for a refill (thinking it would warm up my cup) I realized the entire pot was cold. Our server was really young so I tried giving her the benefit of the doubt, but we had to flag someone down for everything we needed. Because there were so few people in the restaurant, I was surprised to be ignored the whole time. Both servers were busy doing side work around us and didn't notice we were waiting to be approached. It made me wonder how much worse the service would be if the whole place was filled! They clearly didn't know the menu either because when we asked for eggs benedict with home fries, they gave us each an extra side of home fries instead of telling us that our meals already came with home fries. We ended up eating them and paying for them, but why wouldn't you let me know?? 3. Our meals were VERY staggered. My fiancé got his meal a while before I got mine, and when I finally got mine, it was cold. Very average food, and even worse coffee. My family and I went here for brunch and we ordered the "Healthy omelette" There was nothing healthy about it there were shards of glass all throughout the dish We also got the steak poke bowl and the steak was Grizzly, undercooked and not very flavorful. The Power Bowl was some super market yogurt, 1 strawberry, 1/4 of an apple, and 1/4 of a banana. The Blueberry Pancakes contained about 6 blueberries and were served with cheap corn syrup as the syrup. The Juevos Rancheros had 1/4 of a chorizo, 1/4 of an avocado, 2 spoon fulls of beans, and served on top of cheap super market tortilla chips. Even the ice in our water tasted like freezer burn. Each dish cost over $15. The service was fine. The ambiance was medicocure. However we were the only customers in it; it had that empty feel. Sorry to keep going on about it, but I feel violated somehow. Like I was taken. What a waste of money for a bummer Experience. We have had the pleasure of dinner at Mountain Hill Bistro twice recently. The food was excellent both times. The first time we both had the seafood risotto special - loved it! The second time one of us had the short ribs and the other the papardelle. I have to say that the slow roasted short ribs were absolutely scrumptious. Although my dish was good- pear &gorgonzola salad , the "standout" blueberry pancakes were cold. They were waiting for our other orders. I could see the syrup had hardened along the edges of where it was poured. As I said,the pancakes were cold but the husband was afraid to send them back because he was afraid he would never see them again. Just a word about the service- The general consensus of opinion was that the service gave poor service a bad name. Not only did she deny that we had reservations but she basically told us to sit wherever. So we did. For 3 hours. Chatting-talking- and loving up our dear friends who we met there for a visit because it was halfway. So the idea that she was completely inept (and shockingly left to manage the whole restaurant) was a gift to us. That is the only reason they got a 3. We stopped for Gatorade on the way home because we were dehydrated from the lack of water. And THAT is all that can be said about that. read more

Chicken Parm: small, half of the size you get from traditional italien restaurant. taste was good but not like wow (in my opinion) Mac n Cheese: was ok, didn't taste much of the truffle. Kimchi Fries: flavor was good, however the fires we got was dark and soggy, the tips of the fries also felt hard like reheated fires, was very disappointed! Crab slider: same issue with fries, and the slider tasted good. Overall: Too expensive for what they charge, i felt like i am more willing to eat in a higher end sit down restaurants with drink menu for main course costs 25$ above. Probably the worst service I've ever had in a restaurant. There were only two people working the place, no one came to take our orders, offer drinks, go over the valentines menu for 40 minutes. I had to grab one of them to place the order. Asked for a cheese substitution in a salad, the cheese was left out. Food was okay, I got the short ribs. Had to again flag down one of the 2 people working to get the check and then had to flag them down again take the check. Don't let mixed reviews stop you from trying it for yourself. We did and we gladly be back! Had truffles Mac and cheese and mango chicken for apps; 2 pasta dishes, lemon risotto with salmon was delicious and the braised short ribs were tender and flavorful. More a 3.5 star place than full 4 stars. The place screams of such great potential. It's in a somewhat odd quiet location but with great rural nature surrounding vibes. Maybe the menu is a bit ambitious for lunch and dinners for a restaurant run by only a couple of people most times. Food is decent and portions are relatively generous for non breakfast service but nothing really too spectacular. Breakfast may be a lot better. I was slightly concerned because I made reservations at 5pm for a 7:30 Sit down and they had no problem getting me in. Hmmmm ...I thought Sat evening and there not very busy. But then I thought they are new. I love its location. On the circle in Gillette. The decor is really nice. Romantic with about a dozen tables. I brought my kids 12&8 but this place is more sophisticated. Great for a nice meal with your significant other. Prices a bit higher but the menu is not your burger/wings. My app was the calamari and chorizo.....awesome. I ordered the short-rib. Really good. My son ordered the chix parm which came with pasta. Not expecting to write this but the pasta was excellent, not an after thought... I will return to dig into the menue a little deeper and get dessert read more

Went there for my birthday recently. The food is very good, but like all restaruants, they are understaffed. The portions were beyond generous (enough so if you ordered the appetizer and dessert you would have plenty) They had the doors open and a few flies were in, but overall very good, and we would go there again. read more

This is a copy of the email that I sent to Mountain Hill Bistro. Since I received no response, I must assume that my opinion doesn't matter to them. Good Morning I stopped in yesterday for a breakfast sandwich to go. Overall, it was disappointing. A pleasant man took my order making sure to advise me that a pork roll egg and cheese was going to be nearly $14.00 and came with potatoes. I told him to go ahead having looked at your menu minutes before. I also ordered coffee. It was made quickly and I was on my way. I got home and when I went to put ketchup on my sandwich I noticed that for 14 bucks, I was treated to one skimpy slice of pork roll. I chose to eat my sandwich and while the eggs were cooked nicely and cheese tasted like a good product, the lack of much meat in my sandwich took away from the rest of my first experience in your bistro. The potatoes were good and the coffee decent but at the end of the day, $18.00 for a pork roll egg and cheese with potatoes and coffee is way too expensive considering the sandwich content. I chose to email you rather than post a poor review since maybe your cook made a mistake. If, however, you consider your breakfast sandwich to have been made correctly, I won't be back. Neil M. Ate here with my kids and elderly parents. It's in a quiet location near the great swamp and it a fun little drive getting there. Ate here for brunch. It was raining out and the view outside was relaxing through the large windows in front of the building. The service is a little slow and they were out of a lot of things. The communication isn't the best. Our kids had pancakes but they were out of bacon. Fruit wasn't quite the same treat and there was confusion around the whipped cream. Drinks didn't come very quickly and we had to ask several times for refills that didn't come. The food was good and felt homemade, authentic. There is a broad menu to choose from. Dishes came out in waves vs. all at once, added to the awkwardness. Hopefully they can dial things in with more repetition. It was also a little expensive for the location and quality of service. Food is very well made but portions where incredibly small. I ordered the cast iron chicken with potatoes and asparagus. The chicken was cooked perfectly but I had three very small pieces of roasted potatoes and two thin stalks of asparagus.
