[Pre-Covid review] Before the pandemic I had been working in the Financial District which was right around the corner from Plentea. In past years they've been known for the cute mason jars that you can take home for an extra price, but I never remember to bring them back when I'm in SF to get that discount, so the bottles would eventually pile up and I stopped coming. However, when I decided to give Plentea another try back in 2019, I noticed they had a new drink under their "Special Milk Tea" section, for Taro (Fresh Purple Yam" and decided to give this a try. After that initial try I'd make a point to try to get a drink here every so often since my office was so close. The fresh taro was not so sweet and they use legit fresh taro paste, which I love. I think flavor-wise, it is definitely leaning more towards purple yam than taro, but I still like it nonetheless. I recommend mixing well before drinking otherwise the taro paste will stick to the sides! read more

One year later and we're back! Coming in half an hour before closing time, I was scared that they would run out of boba. Luckily, they still had some!! (: The first thing I noticed was that there have been a few changes since we came back. For instance, if you PLENTEA of their glass bottles at home, they give you an option to put it in a different container at the same price. They also use paper straws, which does not surprise me since Plentea has always been eco-friendly. But, what did surprise me was how sturdy the paper straws were (that's a major plus). I have always been a huge fan of their milk teas and sea salt cream, so of course I got my roasted Oolong milk tea fix. My sister opted for the classic Jasmine Green Milk Tea, while my parents got the Taro Milk Tea ($5.25). The milk teas are around $4.50 without toppings, which is a bit on the pricey side. We forgot to ask for our cashier's name, but she was super accommodating and friendly. It made our "late night visit" a lot more fun. Once our drinks came out, we noticed the drastic change in their Taro Milk Tea. Instead of the regular ol' purple liquid, there was half a bottle of actual taro chunks in there with the other half being just milk tea. Not only was presentation nice, but the drink was SMOOOOTH. The taro chunks mixed well with the milk tea and had a strong taste. You can definitely tell they did not use any sort of artificial sweetener! While it looked cool, the flavor of the taro wasn't that strong and it felt like a really dense drink. I wasn't a fan. The space is deceivingly small because they actually have a 2nd floor with a few tables as well. I also like that they have cute reusable glass containers! I don't work in the area and with all that I've heard, made me want to try it even more. The menu was limited and simple offering, classic milk teas, some specialty milk teas, fruity teas & smoothies. I'm glad it's not an extensive boba menu like other places where the selections can be overwhelming. I still had a hard time deciding what to order. Having never been here, I ordered the mango green tea and it was served in a cute glass bottle instead of the standard lidded plastic cup. I currently reuse the bottle by my bedside, it's not clear if I can bring it back to the store to reuse for another drink. I was pleasantly surprised with my drink. I love the glass bottle and wood aesthetic of the inside of their storefront. I got a roasted oolang iced milk tea w/ double tapioca, half & half & in a glass bottle. Total $8.95. It was awesome! I won't lie I was captivated at the first sip. The bobaristas were super busy pumping out orders! I saw them prepare mine in a quick and delicate method which was topped off with capping the bottle and then wiping it down. Check it out! I recommend walking to Maiden Lane or another canyon of a downtown alley to enjoy your drink. It's especially loud at the storefront.
