It was essentially all milk. Did not taste any tea and if there was any, it was watered down or the ratio was way off. The milk also tasted funny. Staff was nice and fast. The seating area was small but accommodating.
The musubi was big and delicious. The red bean smoothie was very good not too sweet and the boba was chewy and not very sweet. Boba is an add on. (Worth it) . The bottle it came in was really nice.Very nice to ) handle and big. It is reusable and convenient. The place is clean and comfortable with a counter and some stools. Great place to relax and get a fast snack.
I like how you can order a drink here and get a nice glass bottle. It's very easy to carry and can be used for multiple uses. It can be used for any future drinks you want to make. The strawberry tea was also good and I always enjoy lychee jelly.
I used to stop by this store pretty often for boba, but I'm writing this review because of a sanitation concern, an inconsistent policy, and a "very unpleasant" experience I had today. On multiple occasions, I saw employees simply rinse my returned bottle with water, "without detergent", and immediately refill it with the drink I ordered. I've also seen employees take properly washed bottles from their dishwashing machine, so I know they do have clean bottles available. I wasn't comfortable drinking from "a bottle that had only been quickly rinsed with water". So after seeing this happen a few times, I started asking if I could put my returned bottle in their bottle return basket and have my drink served in one of the clean bottles instead. Every employee I asked before today kindly said yes and still gave me the 10% discount. Today, however, a manager I had never seen before told me, "I won't give you a discount if you put that bottle in the bottle basket." She said I could only get the discount if I handed the bottle to her and let her wash it and refill it with my drink. I explained why I didn't want to do that and told her that all the other employees I had asked had allowed me to put it in the basket. She responded that regardless of what they had done before, she would tell them not to do it anymore. What bothered me even more was "her attitude" throughout the conversation. Her tone was "very firm and dismissive", and she looked visibly annoyed while I was simply trying to explain why I wasn't comfortable having my drink put into a bottle that had only been quickly rinsed before. I wasn't trying to argue with her over a discount. I understand that the sign says, "10% discount if you bring back clean bottle to refill with your own drink." So if their actual rule is that I need to wash the bottle thoroughly myself before bringing it back and then reuse that same bottle, that's fine. But if that's the rule, someone could have simply told me that before. Every other employee had happily given me the discount without saying that they were making an exception. And this is the part I still don't understand. If the bottle needs to be properly cleaned to qualify, why had I seen employees simply rinse my used bottle with water and immediately refill it? They already have a dishwashing machine for returned bottles, and I've seen employees take clean bottles from it. Why is putting one more returned bottle with the others to be properly washed such a big deal, while giving me an already-clean bottle for my drink? I wasn't going to fight over about 70 cents, so I just gave up the discount. I'd rather pay the regular price than have my drink served in a bottle I don't feel was properly washed. I came here pretty often and never had an issue with the other employees, which is why this experience was so disappointing. I think the store needs to be clearer and more consistent about how this program actually works. And regardless of the policy, I don't think a reasonable concern from a regular customer needed to be handled with that kind of attitude. I'm not sure if I'll come back anytime soon
Pretty good boba and served in a glass container, I like that. I got the taro with honey boba and it was good! Taro was fresh taro. Some tables inside but not the cleanest, but staff friendly and service fast. Id come back if in the area.
Quality boba drinks. Always hit the spot. Collect the containers, and get rewarded. Staff was nice and efficient.
The Plentea is my favorite Grub Hub milk tea spot. I've ordered the Plentea special from them on numerous occasions, and it has always been consistently great! Our order from Plentea My friend/coworker loved her Jasmine Milk tea with Lychee jelly so much she wanted to pose with it. We also have ordered the red bean smoothie and this has been consistently great as well! Will definitely continue to order!
I had a wonderful experience at Plentea in downtown! I ordered two iced milks, and both were absolutely delicious--perfectly balanced, creamy, and refreshing. The atmosphere is cozy. We will be back!
Plentea used to have a soft spot in my heart because they're eco friendly with the glass bottles AND you get 10% off when you use reuse them here. We always get the grape fruit tea with salted cheese crema. The recipe/ingredient have changed a few times. It used to have these purple grape pulp that added good texture and flavor. What happened to y'all? :(
Cute, clean, modern boba shop with fun drinks! I enjoyed getting the Plentea. It looks like a little plant because they put Oreo crumble and a little mint on top! There's a wall of counter seating and some tables, but it's all near the open front door, so dress warm if it's a colder day. Service is nice and attentive! When you order, you can choose between a plastic cup or a glass bottle, no extra charge. If you choose the glass bottle, bring it back the next time you go and you'll get 10% off if you use it for your drink.
I haven't been up this way since Covid and I was happy to see that Plentea is still around. They have one of the most refreshing milk tea and I just love the grass jelly that comes with it. The prices are very reasonable and I like the reusable bottle. They offer musubis now and those are always a tasty treat. Casual. Fast service. Dairy and non-dairy options. Please come and create your own adventure.
We came here for a late night boba run and was happy to find that they're open until 11 PM, which is quite rare in SF since most spots close early. We ordered the roasted oolong milk tea & jasmine green milk tea with boba. The jasmine milk tea was good, can taste the tea, just the right level of sweetness & the boba was still chewy, even that late at night. The roasted oolong, while it looked well brewed, tasted a bit watered down to me & didn't really have that tea forward flavor I prefer in milk teas. One thing I really appreciate is that they serve the drinks in glass bottles, great to reuse & reduce plastic waste.
I had Plentea 7-8 years ago and remembered how amazing the taro milk drink (we made sure to go back a few days later before we left the city) was so paid them a visit when I was back in SF. It unfortunately didn't live up to my memory's expectations. I remembered large chunks of real taro and a strong taro flavor to the drink. This time around, the taro flavor wasn't as prominent and less taro. Overall the drink was fine, but it wouldn't drive me to come back for it again.

Came when there was a huge line so I figured I'd stop by too. Small compact seating around, but definitely available. Kiosk ordering is convenient and simple. Staff do reach out to give suggestions even after ordering so that was appreciated. Red Dragonfruit Plentea - lacked flavor and was pretty watered down so I was disappointed. I've been searching for a better dragonfruit drink but haven't come across much in San Francisco. Staff did tell me that 50% sugar wouldn't be good and increasing it would be better, so I obliged. Even so, it was like drinking water with bits of dragonfruit infused. Jasmine Milk Tea with Boba - chewy bouncy boba but not sweet so good texture, but can get stale fast. Tea was solid as in there was a strong tea flavor, definitely leaning towards tea over milk in the ratio. read more

Recently went to Plentea with the hubs over the weekend. It was a Saturday night and pretty dead since it was raining. For our first time trying it out and we were pretty satisfied with what we got. We ordered three teas + a spam musubi with egg to snack on to hold us over until dinner. The coffee and oolong with creama were pretty standard, nothing extremely spectacular but still enjoyable. Also got a grape green tea which was just alright. Staff was very nice! They accidentally made our coffee drink wrong and immediately fixed it. We appreciate them for being upfront and providing great service. I think that if you're in the area, Plentea is still worth checking out. They have (limited) snacks, which is always a plus, and again, their drinks are pretty good. Can't complain! read more

I like how the glasses are free! I wish the menu was made a little better. I think all of the prices are covered so it's hard to gauge how much everything is. It also made it pretty distracting to read the menu. But it feels super nostalgic coming to Plentea because it was super trendy back then! Service was also great too! read more
Refreshing smoothies! Plentea is a bubble tea shop. Picked up some smoothies before we headed back to our hotel. Lots of choices on the menu board. Stared at it until finally I was able to choose and opted for the Strawberry Banana Smoothie. LoL! It came in a cute reusable souvenir glass milk bottle, ahh sadly, I forgot to bring it home from the hotel. For the hubby, his favorite Avocado Smoothie. Our drinks were made from fresh ingredients... delicious and refreshing. The staff was friendly and helpful. Located in the Financial District of San Francisco. Parking isn't the best here. In fact, it sucks! Lucky for us just a 5-min walk from our place on Bush Street. Mentioning again... Plentea is a bubble tea/boba shop. Was in town for a long wekeend and only had time to try one boba place. Glad I chose the right one! I enjoyed the drinks here. Not very sweet and flavors were on point. I could taste the taro bits in the taro milk, didn't taste like a powdered taro drink. Not sure if it was made with powder or not but definitely made with real taro. When I ordered the passion fruit tea at 50% sugar, they warned me it would be bitter so I opted for 75% because I'd rather it be unsweetened than too sweet. It did taste unsweetened at 75% which I didn't mind, now I know I could order it without adjusting the sugar level. I didn't know they have musubi until I was at the counter ordering, it wasn't bad. read more

Coming from a place where boba is at almost every corner, I had to look for some while in San Francisco. A couple of friends and I walked all around the area looking for great boba. We not only saw the positive reviews on Yelp and Google, but also saw that there was a crowd and small line coming out, so it must've been that good! We waited our turn in line and we're finally able to place our order on the kiosk. From there, we just waited for our orders to come out as the baristas were calling them out. I love that this place gives you the option of either getting your drink in the nice plastic boba cups or you have the option of selecting a reusable glass bottle (has their name on it like a souvenir!). I chose the regular cup because I didn't want the hassle of having to open then close my bottle while walking around the city. I got the house blend black milk tea with boba (less sugar). I was very pleased with my order! The tea was just right and the boba was perfect texture. They have several milk options which was convenient if you're picky like me. I highly recommend them if you're in the area! Great quality product at fair prices! read more
I found this place on yelp while visiting SF and I'm so glad I was able to try it ! I ordered their roast oolong milk tea with boba and I'm so glad I did! I thought since we arrived late at night the tea would be watered down but it still had a strong oolong flavor! The boba was a tad bit hard but it was still somewhat chewy. When ordering you get to choose between the regular cup or the glass. We opted for the glass since it was pretty sure BUT fair warning the straw does stick out so if you wanna close the lid you're going to need to bend to straw a bit. Hopefully next time I'm in SF I can try some of their other items! read more
I've realized I've been sleeping on reviewing this place for too long. Back in August 2023, I proposed to my now fiancée at this Plentea shop. It was where I first met her in 2019. I noticed the 2nd floor was closed off and for those who may not know, it used to be open to the public until 2020 for obvious reasons, so only the 1st floor was open at that point. I contacted the manager to see if I could borrow the 2nd floor for a few hours to propose and he worked with me! Such an incredible human being to chat with! I had two friends help me set up the day of and it looked so nice! The staff were very polite and helpful. Plentea helped make it a special day for us. As for the actual food and drinks, get the Deluxe Spam Musubi. I ate this every time without fail when visiting Plentea, there's just something about a nice fluffy egg on a soam musubi that changes the game. The Taro Milk Tea, Coffee Milk Tea, Thai Milk Tea ate my favorites here! The glass milk bottle they give you is such a unique concept, I love it! Check this place out! read more

I used to come here all the time, but haven't been in the area in a while and decided to come back to give them a try again! Quality of drinks are really good has remained pretty consistent over the years. I ordered the earl grey milk tea with boba. One thing I really enjoy about Plentea is that the drinks are never too sweet, even at the regular sweetness level. You have the option of ordering your drink in a glass milk jar or a plastic cup, both of which are priced the same. The plastic cup is slightly larger by 4 oz. There are a few chairs and tables for seating downstairs but they've closed the upstairs loft that was a larger seating area. read more

5 stars for sustainability alone at Plentea, they have these really nice small glass bottles you can get a variety of nice drinks in and keep for yourself to store milk or other stuff in later. There's a lot of variety of drinks, a nice asynchronous digital ordering system, and they also let you know if the drink you ordered might turn out to be too sour if you go for less sweet. My watermelon drink was refreshing and delicious. read more

1. The atmosphere in the beginning was not very welcoming. The staff looked at us like they were judging us. At the end they did not acknowledge us. Overall, staff should be trained to have better customer service. 2.We ordered the Super Fruit Tea with Chia Seeds and Mango Tea with Lychee Jelly. Both were standard sweet and ice. We spent about $15, so for higher priced drinks, the expectations were higher. However, the drinks were horrific. The Super Fruit Tea tasted sour and old. Half the fruits were not fresh and the others were not ripe. The Mango Tea was not the best. Usually you can't go wrong with a Mango Tea but honestly this drink was disappointing and tasted watered down. Both drinks were thrown away after a few sips. 3. Aesthetics of the place was alright but the experience itself was terrible. Please do better and at least try to have better customer service. Unfortunately, this place is a letdown. read more

So cool that they use glass bottles here to reduce waste. I really loved the tea too. Such good quality. I feel like I can never tell when the tapioca is good or not so go to some other more knowledgeable reviewer, haha. Love this place tho. Plentea has been one of my favorite boba spots since I moved to SF. I haven't stopped by much since before covid, but I finally went by this weekend and their drinks still hit the same! Plentea doesn't allow you to customize the sweetness of some of their drinks, but I've always found that to be fine because they don't make their drinks as sweet as most other boba places. Also, they still have their glass bottle rewards in place! If you return 10 of their glass bottles, you get a free drink. I love this eco friendly way to reward their frequent customers! Definitely will be back more often! read more

The milk tea was decent, but nothing special. The flavors were a bit weak, and the boba texture could have been better. Prices are a bit on the higher side for what you get. The store is clean and the service was fine, but overall, it's just an average spot. Not bad, but not great either read more
Maybe I had high hopes but this drink didn't taste as good as it looks. For $5.75 + $0.50 for the boba topping, the signature Plentea drink better have been good. By the way, there's only one size option. I thought the crushed Oreo, milk foam layer and milk tea would blend in one glorious, delicious drink. However, once the cap is placed onto the drink, and furious swirling commences, you realize you still only mainly taste the milk tea. Occasionally, you get a chunk of Oreo, but the milk foam might as well not have been there. Also, I chose 50% sweetness, but my drink wasn't sweet at all; it tasted like I got 25% sweetness. The boba was good though. Some other issues: First, I like the self-ordering computer, but wish there were more than one. Also, it wasn't obvious you had to self-order, as my group immediately approached the employee, and so did some other customers. Second, my friends' Thai Tea drinks finished first, and the last drink took a while to prepare, so I was going to bring them to my friends early. The male employee stopped me and said that "we like to give out orders all at once." So I guess maybe it would be better to order individually on the machine so that everyone can actually get his/her drink when it's made? Third, saw some reviews about being environmentally friendly, but they only had plastic straws (with plastic wrappers) when I went a couple of days ago. Also, while they give 10% discount the next time if you bring the glass bottle back clean, shouldn't the glass one cost more than the plastic container when initially ordering? read more

I came here with some friends during my vacation. We ordered 2 drinks(brown sugar ice milk & caramel ice milk) through the machine in the store, they both showed up as with boba in the images so we didn't add any more toppings. But they came out without boba. I like that you can choose the drink to be in the bottle or cup, creative. The drinks in general are good, not too sweet! The staff is amicable and helpful. This place doesn't have a restroom though. read more
It's a super adorable cute little cafe, here's a photo of the inside with the Matcha Latte I got. Their service was amazing, responded very fast & didn't have a long wait time for my drink. Alright alright, so hands down one of my favorite milk tea places in sf. A lot of milk tea places in sf think that milk tea is sugar with some half and half with a splash of tea. I feel like Plentea cares about the quality of their tea and the consistency of their drinks. Have always gotten a great balance of the flavor of the tea in the drinks ive gotten here Gonna give it 5 stars for being one of the best milk tea places in sf, serving in a dope glass bottle, and the cashier warned me about getting whole milk with the roasted oolong, it did taste better with the half and half. Another very popular spot in town. It's a nice little modern place. Staff wasn't all that welcoming or friendly at the time. We ordered ourselves through the kiosks. My boyfriend got the Honey Citrus Tea and I got the Honey Lime Tea with Boba. Both drinks were pretty refreshing and not too sweet. I came because of their glass bottles but didn't end up getting one because I didn't want to carry it around town lol. But definitely go get one if you can! read more
There are plenty of good milk tea options at Plentea! Located on Kearny Street in the heart of San Francisco's Financial District, the boba tea drinks handcrafted at Plentea have sustained such a great quality in them since their opening in 2014 that they have quickly become stuff of San Francisco boba legend. What makes the milk and boba tea drinks stand apart from so many of their competitors is that they are made from high quality ingredients that are uniquely sourced from the San Francisco Bay Area region and throughout the world. Founder and owner Henry Tang was such a huge fan of boba milk tea drinks, yet he couldn't find one that satisfied his taste buds and also provided nourishment for both he and wife, who just happened to be pregnant at the time. After experimenting in his own kitchen with different recipes, he managed to perfect a recipe that satisfied him and his growing family, and it was so good that he felt people should have a better choice than the mass produced tea that was currently being sold in boba shops in the city. What also makes Plentea shine is their solid customer service and the fact that many, but not all of their tea drinks are sold in glass tea jars that resemble old milk bottles. It's a lovely presentation that no doubt is intended to imply that taking a picture with your new boba is the way to order a drink and promptly take a picture with it, of which I did both. The menu at Plentea is broken up into categories including their Classic Milk Tea, Special Milk Tea, Sea Salt Creama, Fresh Fruit Tea & Sweet Cheese Creama, Matcha, Smoothies, Premium Mountain Tea & Coffee, Artisan Teas, along with Toppings and Choice of Milk. They also have convenient touchscreen ordering kiosks in which customers can easily order anything that they want with the simple touch of a screen, of course that also leads to more questions that sometimes cannot be answered especially when their associates are busy with their boba tea making. Since I haven't been to Plentea in quite some time, I decided to go the more basic route by ordering a Seat Salt Creama Oolong Tea from their Sea Salt Cheese Creama section of their menu, which cost a total of $6.25. For this drink there are no milk or sugar adjustments that are available, and one of the reasons I ordered this drink was that it is served in a milk bottle at no extra charge. I also decided to order a boba topping and conceivably you can order a milk tea drink at Plentea with no boba or toppings, but seriously what is the point in that? So I opted for their Honey Tapioca Boba, which cost 50 extra cents, and for good measure since I knew my drink was being served in a glass milk bottle, I ordered less ice in my drink. My total was $6.25 before tip and with an easy payment on their touchscreen panel, I was all set to wait for my drink as you have to enter in your phone number and they text you the status of your drink and when it is ready for pick up. Once my drink was ready it was like seeing a sparkling new toy on Christmas morning, as that milk bottle was shimmering from all of the boba, tea and cream mixed together, and since it was in a sealed bottle, it was calling to be shaken up. But I waited until I got outside and took a picture of it outside in front of their sign, as it was too bad that that this location of Plentea didn't seem to have a boba wall ready for picture taking that so many other boba shops seem to have right now, as competition is high and you have to get the word out, especially with social media. But drinking my refreshing shaken boba in its milk jar was a simple delight especially since the day I went was a warm San Francisco day while walking to my destination downtown. Obviously many more visits to this Plentea location and the one they have in Berkeley will be coming for me, as their bobas are refreshing without being overly sweet and filled with too many overwhelming flavors. I can't wait to come back and try some of the food items they sell from Spam Musubi to Takoyaki Balls on a Stick to Cheesecake Tiramisu Chocolate Mousse. There seems to be no limit at Plentea and under the watchful guidance of owner Henry Tang, who is a self-proclaimed dedicated Boba and Bubble tea drink lover, they acknowledge that their product can always improve, but I can't see how much more their drinks can improve at Plentea. read more

*chef kiss* I love this place. The Sea Salt Creama Oolong is fantastic, just the right balance of creamy richness with sweetness. I got the 70% and that was perfect for experiencing the full potential of the drink. If I was a local coming back and not an indulgent tourist, I would prob get 50% to make me feel better about myself, but def rec 70% if it's your first time. Would def recommend this place if you're visiting SF! Ambience is cute with tea leaves in picture frames, but seating is pretty limited and there's no public restroom. read more
While walking around SF, I was feeling thirsty and found Plentea nearby. I got myself a Sea Salt Crema Oolong Tea ($5.25) in a glass jar. For some reason, the glass was cheaper than plastic. I guess that's SF being eco-friendly? Anyways, I liked that I can reuse the glass bottle though. But do note that I had to hold the bottle cap as I was walking around and drinking since you can't just poke a straw inside. The drink itself is good. Nice balance of salty and sweet. Solid spot though! read more

yes indoor seating is now available ! though upstairs is no longer available. so it's only the ground floor with a few tables and chairs for you to sit and enjoy boba if you want to work.
