The person making my boyfriend's drink added boba in his jar because he heard my boyfriend telling the cashier he wanted boba in his drink. Then the person making the drinks realized that the cashier didn't ring up boba for my boyfriend's drink since it would be an extra charge of 50 cents for boba. My experience was quite disappointing. Ordered the peach fruit tea with 75% sweetness and could not taste any sweetness at all nor any peach flavor. It honestly tasted no different from a regular cup of tea with dried fruit floating around. Only thing I appreciated from this place was the glass bottle they serve their teas in. The drinks here have definitely gotten A LOT better from when they first opened a few years ago! They've expanded their menu quite a bit to include more fruit teas and smoothies which is great! They are also serving baos now! I like plentea because they use all fresh fruit for their fruit teas and smoothies. This does make everything a bit pricier than other boba spots around campus but you can definitely taste the freshness, and you don't get that artificial syrup taste! My go-to drinks are the dragonfruit tea with sweet crema and the passion fruit tea with sweet crema when I want something fruity, the matcha smoothie when I need a pick-me-up, and the brown sugar ice milk when I want something super sweet. Definitely gotta add boba to everything too! They also have a plastic cup option now which is a couple oz bigger than the glass bottles, but you can bring your glass bottle back for a 10% discount (and it's getter for the Earth). They are also selling two kinds of metal boba straws! One rainbow one that's a bit longer and a plain silver one. The cleaning brushes for the straws are $1 extra. The only thing is that there is virtually no seating inside, and I have no idea whether their lounge area is going to open up again too or not. read more

My favorite boba place in Berkeley is back. I love that they have glass bottles that are nicely recylable/reusable, but they've also added the option to get your drink in a slightly larger plastic cup which I'm honestly a little disappointed by. That said, their black milk tea has a malty chocolatey bitterness I love and that is hard if not impossible to get anywhere else, which is why I was so upset it was closed for so long! They also have bao now and I tried the off-menu cheeseburger bao and it was actually worse than you might imagine. However, they have other more traditional flavors that should work a lot better. Probably not a place anyone would go to for the food but it's nice to have the option to grab a bite with your tea. Hopefully they stick around this time. read more

Everyone comments about how terrible, but I honestly think that it's better than Ucha or Sharetea, however I've only tried one drink here. The Ice Milk drink with brown sugar and boba is pretty good! Due to the reviews, I thought that it would be terrible, but I thought it was better than the drinks I've gotten at Ucha and Sharetea. Additionally, I don't think it's that expensive when comparing it to the aforementioned boba shops. I went to Ucha the other day and with a topping and tax, the drink was $5.75, which is comparable to Plentea, but you get a bottle! Brining the bottle back, you get 10% off, which is essentially a free topping! Not only do I support reuseable bottles, $5.50 after tax (if bringing the bottle back), really isn't that expensive when comparing it to other boba shops. However, a better design for the bottle would be to make it a wide mouth bottle because it's super difficult to wash as is due to the small mouth. read more

This place opened up when there were already so many boba places in Berkeley so I had to try it. I got the matcha latte and it was just bad. The drink was very watery and it didn't taste like matcha at all. It was also very pricey for the small quantity and low quality of the drink. The glass containers are interesting and an aesthetic plus but the boba is just not worth it. I got the strawberry green tea. I really liked how it was served in the glass bottle. It wasn't too sweet which is what I enjoyed. The boba was cooked perfectly. I finally checked this location out after hearing about it, and I really enjoyed my experience! I love matcha, so I ordered the matcha latte with soy milk and boba. My friend was deciding between the apple black tea and the strawberry black tea. She was able to try unsweetened samples of the two teas before ordering a apple black tea with boba, 75% sweetened. The staff were very welcoming and kind! Because this was our first time here, neither of us had a glass bottle. We were told that if we brought this cute glass bottle back, we would receive 10% off our drink (the bottle comes with your order by default). In hindsight, I would have asked for a cap with my bottle. The drinks are a bit pricier because they come with the glass bottle you get to take home, but to get boba of a similar quality at other Berkeley shops, you'd have to drop about $5 anyway. I loved the matcha latte and boba! The drink didn't taste powdery. The study lounge is spacious, with free wi-fi and comfy couches. They won't let you alter your tea's sweetness or milk content because aparently the owner is a purist of sorts. Kinda rude though because I like my tea milky and sweet! I tried the black milk tea 120% sweet (that's the highest they'll go, lame) and it wasn't that great. It kind of tasted coffee-ish, like they had coffee sitting int he galss, then dumped it out and filled it with my tea without a rinse. Maybe it was just super super strong, but I didn't really care for it that much. The only thing about this experience that I liked was the nifty milk bottle type glass I got to bring home. It's sitting in my cabinet with the rest of my cup collection. If you bring back the glass bottle, you get a discount on your next tea though. I'd try it again for another flavor. Maybe mine was just a fluke, and if it was, my review will change. The actual boba balls were alright though. Not overly chewy and nice and sweet. I love my new bottle. Really not sure what's going on here but this place has been shut since December :'(. I've been back three times now (each time lugging a clinking bag full of glass bottles to return) - in early Jan and there was a sign on the door saying "opening mid Jan", then again in mid Jan and there was a sign saying "opening late Jan" and then again in early Feb to see a sign saying "opening late Feb". I can't really comment on the interior/staff of this place since my brother made the boba run for me. Also, first timer! Their pearls are really nice; they're sweetened, soft, and taste kind of herbally, similar to purple kow's pearls in a way. However, they didn't put in an adequate amount of pearls in the drink. I finished the pearls before I finished the drink. Usually with other bubble tea shops, I finish the drink before I finish the pearls. The Nutella Milk Tea was okay, but leaning more towards the eh side. It didn't really taste like a strong Nutella taste. It tasted more like a dark chocolate milk tea instead of a Nutella milk tea. This drink was nothing special and I wouldn't get this drink again. The Oolong Milk Tea w/ pearls tasted alright, but it was still missing something. The pearls tasted better than the drink itself. There wasn't a strong Oolong presence in the tea and the tea tasted a bit watered down. I wish the drink was more creamy and decadent; although, it was a little refreshing due to the wateriness. Maybe it was just this particular day that it tasted bland. Who knows. I don't know if I would get this again, haha. The drinks were a bit pricey but it's most likely due to the glass bottles that customers get to keep. I really like the design of the bottles and I think the bottles are pleasingly aesthetic. Apparently, if you bring the glass bottles back, it's 10% off your order. I really appreciate this philosophy because it encourages one of the three R's: reuse. This helps our environment dearly. According to their brand's philosophy, they use real, natural ingredients and they make their own simple syrups. Their fruits are also seasonally satisfying. I appreciate this. Final verdict: I would come back just so I could try their other drinks and reuse my glass bottle. But I won't get the Nutella Milk Tea ever again and the Oolong Milk Tea is questionable. I've tried the Black Sugar Milk Icy at the SF location and I enjoyed that drink so I'm looking forward to getting that again. Prices were a bit steep but boba was good. read more

I say "smoothie" because when it was put into the bottle it was clumpy and icy and physically impossible to drink. Like many people I was very excited for Plentea to be in Berkeley because of the great experience I had in SF. I tried the sea salt creama oolong because i love 1) sea salt 2) oolong and *sometimes* 3) creama. I say sometimes because it is a hit or miss depending on the place. I also wanted to try something other than what I ALWAYS get, which is the matcha. However... the drink was very watery and boba very bland. It was strange, because I was assuming/hoping the quality and taste would be same as that in SF. Maybe after a couple of days they will figure out their recipe better. Some of the best boba I've had, but they also have an amazing array of other toppings you can add like lychee and chia seeds. The traditional green tea and boba is fine, but you really need to take advantage of their specialty offerings like the oolong milk tea with chia seeds. All the teas are high quality, and the toppings are made with real natural ingredients (no artificial anything or high fructose corn syrup). If you've only ever had strip mall boba you need to try this place. Everything is natural and top quality at reasonable price. Note: Plentea uses glass bottles, not plastic, but they can be reused and make great vases for small flower arrangements. Also, this location does not have seating and is much smaller than the other location in SF, but there is a public restroom in the alley behind the store. read more

My husband and I are milk tea/boba enthusiasts & have even driven & flown to LA to get our milk tea fix, many times. lol Plentea is our new favorite though. We usually go to the San Francisco Plentea location but when visiting a friend in Berkeley today, we noticed on Yelp that they recently opened. The owner Henry is so nice and with both Plentea locations, if you don't like your drink, they will adjust to your liking or make you a new/different drink all together. The price is great, as it's not much more than you would normally pay for a milk tea drink but you get a beautiful glass bottle with the lid to reuse at home or to bring back to get 10% off. My husband and I highly recommend the Ice Milk drink with brown sugar & tapioca. It reminds us of the popular ice milk drink at Half & Half tea in Los Angeles. The one at the SF location is better for me because the brown sugar iced milk drink is lighter & it's not too sweet. This Berkeley location's sugar tastes more rich in caramel flavor (a bit too sweet for me) but that's because they make it here. Hoping that Plentea opens a location in Cupertino near where we live soon so that we don't have to make the 1.5 hr drive each way. :) read more

I would honestly give this place a zero if I could. This Plentea looks nice and new, but that's about all it has going for it. I've been to Plentea in San Francisco and it's one of those places where the classic black milk tea is the saving grace of the menu. Thus, I stuck to my guns and ordered the black milk tea with boba. I have to say this was legitimately the worst black milk tea with boba that I have ever had in my life. I don't think I am even capable of messing up black tea to this extent. I did not ask for any sweetness adjustments and expected that the sweetness level would be quite high, or at least adequate, due to my past experiences at different Plentea locations. However, the drink seemed almost unsweetened and all I could taste was bitterness with every sip. The tapioca itself was chewy and sweet, thus earning this drink an amazing 1.0 star rating. Also I'm about 99% sure that the they used powdered milk for many of their drinks from what I could observe of their drink making process from behind the counter. The prices here are completely unwarranted, even with the gimmick of the glass bottles. My drink was roughly $5.42 once I added tapioca to it. I typically add a tip so my total was a little over $6.00. The flavor certainly does not warrant a $6.00 price tag and the quantity is not large enough for the price either. This is the place to go if you want severely overpriced, unsatisfying drinks. If you want to try out Plentea, do yourself a favor and go to any other Plentea location but this one. I cannot stress how little I enjoyed my experience at the Berkeley location. read more

After reading the reviews for plentea, y'all are some salty ass customers. They're obviously new, and the baristas are still learning the recipes. Rather than thinking about what you want, and staring at their menu, call out to the barista, even when it's busy. Ask them what they're good at making, what they recommend, and why. Because the drink they like most is most likely the drink they're best at making. Kevin (the barista) recommended the Brown sugar ice milk with egg pudding and it was amazing!! His customer service went above and beyond, where he asked the other barista if he could personally make my drink simply because he recommended it. Every barista has their best drink and keep in mind that the sugars that they use are homemade! If anything is wrong or your drink taste weird, the employees there are more than happy to fix it for you! read more
