They put new reader lenses in my frames and I had to bring them back because I could only see about 12" in front of my face. Paul advised that this was my fault because everyone knows that "readers" means for reading books close to your face. He completely put the blame on me. I wear readers for work, and have for over 10 years, and have never had this issue. Who is buying glasses for books only - he was insulting my intelligence and refused to take responsibility for his incompetence. I would have purchased frames from them but he refused to sell them to me because, in his personal opinion, they wouldn't look good on me. What the customer likes is irrelevant. In general, I found everyone in this office to be extremely defensive, regardless of the situation - from the front desk to the person administering the eye exam. I will never be back. read more

We have been going to this office for over 10 Years, we have had nothing but positive experiences each year with two young children in glasses. Very accommodating with appointments, never wait longer than a few minutes, excellent selection of glasses with the latest styles always available. Such a gem of a place! Moved from out of state and a little behind on my eye care. When I called for an appointment, they were able to get me in the next day. Insurance collection was a breeze. The people who work there were so helpful and knowledgeable and I received such a thorough exam. When picking out my glasses the staff were so helpful and I even remarked that I felt like I was in a jewelry store with the attention and detail of finding the right fit for me. This is my 1st review. The people giving good reviews must be family and friends. The employees at the front are the most Obnoxious, Incompetent, Optical employees I have ever come in contact with. You could be the next victim! Don't get fooled by the nice voice on the phone. Once your inside they will mess up your paper work, add the wrong thing and expect you pay extra out of pocket without telling you that it's not covered by insurance. Paul is a jerk. He displayed plenty of attitude with customers trying to protect his employees from their mistakes. They just lost me and 10 other customers which are members of my family who come here. Good Luck! So we just left plaza optical and had another unpleasant experience there and they always involve the owner who you would think would be better suited to handle customers correctly. Definitely would not recommend this place to anyone. So my wife and I are trying on frames as we're interested in purchasing for our upcoming appointments in the near future and found frames we liked. We were taking pictures of said frames and Paul rudely walks over and snatches the frames from my hands. His staff is very pleasant but the problem there is him. Again definitely would not recommend. Very disappointed. I called to make an appointment for my husband, gave his name and was NEVER told that he wasn't yet due to be seen under our insurance plan. Any reputable medical office will tell you whether or not it is time under your insurance plan. They made the appointment, and only AFTER he was seen by the doctor did they tell him that he wasn't due to be covered by our insurance! Really? You couldn't call to tell us that? How about when he walked into the store BEFORE he saw the doctor? The heavy girl behind the counter claimed she called and left a message, she DID NOT. They proceeded to tell my husband that it's up to him to figure this out, which is complete BS, because when I went last year to get new contacts, they told me I wasn't due yet under the insurance, and asked if I had another plan I could see them under. Now all of a sudden they're saying it's up to the patient to "know?" Give me a break! When my husband explained that he has insurance for a reason, they pretty much just brushed him off and said it wasn't their problem. We've been with Plaza Optical for the last 2 and a half years and this is how you treat your customers? Maybe it's because we're Latino? I never really liked Paul, because he's always been very standoffish, and he proved me right today, he was a complete jerk and actually told my husband to never come back and to not bother bringing his family either! I have been going to Plaza Optical for many yrs. They have a doctor there for all your needs and a staff that is so friendly and knowledgeable it's unbelievable. Paul usual helps me. I would NEVER let anyone else pick out frames for me. He's has an eye for what glasses looks good on your shape of face. He's just incredibly talented at it. He instantly picks out 3 or 4 glasses and you always leave with one. Always! I love once I purchase a pair of glasses months go by and if I twisted my glasses, sat on them, whatever I did to them they would always fix at no charge. They have a wide variety to pick from also. One year i was going thru a horrible time, my health... a divorce and wasn't prepared to hv to buy a pair of glasses at the time. Paul knew what I hv been going thru and out of the goodness of his heart gave me a free Pr of glasses. My health was terrible, my medical bills were piling up n just couldn't get a Pr of glasses at the time. For someone to do that for me I don't take that lightly. I will forever be grateful to Paul and his staff for the great care they've given me over the last decade. No matter where you live they are definitely worth the travel. Wouldn't go anywhere else. Dr. Miller is very nice and very thorough. Also very accurate, which is the most important part. They have all of the most current styles and can find the perfect glasses for your face. They really know how to fit your needs. Very unprofessional and the back office did not know how to process Eye Med insurance and discounts. After going over a very confusing sales process, akin to purchasing a car, something was not right. After I checked with the store to make sure my insurance was accepted, they conveniently dropped the ball at every step. Instead of showing us frames 100% covered under the plan they showed us very overpriced and cheaply made frames. I was charged for exams, where they where free, under my plan. Over the years this family owned establishment has been an icon. Our family has been a client for over 20 yrs and recommendations from Paul & Betsey and their friendly staff have gained us compliments on our glasses for many years. Betsey's patience when introducing our daughter to contacts could never be matched at a chain store. On a recent holiday weekend vacation we had a glass emergency where a family member could not have enjoyed the trip to its fullest since he couldn't see anything. Contacting Plaza on the Friday of a holiday weekend was amazing. Paul went out of his way to make a set and ship them to us overnight after hours so we could all enjoy the holiday. Very nice people working there. You're in and out with excellent service and plenty of styles to choose from. Only one problem - it's all garbage being sold. But that's true no matter where you go. The glasses won't last a year and they real problem is not these nice people, it's the A-holes that make this crap (in China). JUNK, people. You will pay hundreds of dollars for pure junk that is not made to last. And, let's face it, they expect you to come back in a year and buy another pair - toss out the old and in with the new because we live in a purely DISPOSABLE SOCIETY. I have eyeglasses my father bought in the 1950's that won't quit. But buy something today and be ready to replace it next year or the year after. I will never go back to Plaza Optical because I can spend $400 in NYC and get a pair that I think will last longer. All the glasses I have purchased in Manhattan have held up - none have fallen apart like the crap I bought from Plaza Optical. And I'm easy on glasses. They go on in the morning and off at night. I don't put them on and off all day long or toss them about. No, it's just all garbage they make these days. If anyone knows of a place in the USA that makes glasses - or even Germany ... tell me, please. I will get them someplace else going forward. But, if you must get your eyes checked, Plaza has a nice facility and the people are friendly and professional. They can't help the fact that they are corporate shills for the Great Chinese Manufacturing Scam that has wrecked our economy and degraded the quality of our lives. They seem to have no choice. Pros: The store is very modern and seems to have a nice selection of frames. We liked the doctors that gave the exams. The staff in the front are very accommodating. Cons: You cannot walk up to the glasses which is very strange. Most of the glasses are along a wall that is about 3 - 5 feet from the counter. The frames must be handed to you over a counter. It's very frustrating as you really can't see the frames across the counter since you are visually impaired. The staff is selecting the glasses for you. However, my biggest problem with Plaza Optical is that they are not transparent about their pricing. Other optical places that I have visited, have gone over the cost for each item, exam, frames, eyeglass features, contact lenses and the Insurance discount for each. Plaza Optical gives you a total cost and do not provide an itemized breakdown. I shouldn't have to call them back for them to review my bill or have to call my insurance company to see if I am being charged fairly. In spite, of the good doctors, the lack of transparency in pricing is a deal breaker for me. read more

I bought a pair of Fendi glasses elsewhere and the lens kept falling out because it was cut incorrectly. Had the company fix it and it was still wrong. Brought my Fendi frames to Plaza and they repaired them perfectly. read more

My recent experience with palza optical has been quite a negative one. I purchased a pair of sunglasses and I wanted a different set of lenses inserted into the frames. After paying for the frames I asked the young lady at the counter what the next step was. She told me to take my glasses home and that when the new lenses came in they would call me and place a new lenses into the frame. After about a week and a half went by another young lady called me and alluded to the fact that I had walked out of the store with a set of sunglasses but did not belong to me. She told me my frames had come in with the lenses in them and to bring back the other pair that I had taken. I called back and discuss this with the staff members there. They stated that they had given me these glasses as loners when in fact I should have never received any glasses, as the lenses are not replaceable. Staff mistakes resulted in me being called a thief instead of accepting personal responsibility for not knowing their own product. When talking to staff there they stated they have never loaned out a pair of sunglasses in the past but listed my account as having loaners. I would avoid this place until they can figure out what their policies and procedures are and how to fully implement them with the staff that they have. The staff did apologize for eluding to the fact that I had stolen something. However, I cannot so readily accept an apology for attacking my character for their lack of understanding of their own policies and procedures. read more

It's a gem in an unexpected plaza in Monroe, but the professionalism and care they take to fit you in the right pair of frames was outstanding! I had gone to 2 other places across the river where I live, and decided I needed someone who really could fit my face with the right size frames! Marissa and Paul were in a league of their own, although the whole staff was amazingly sweet and supportive, giving their friendly 2 cents when sought out! :) I will never go to another place for an exam or set of frames - and the special coating (cristal?) was worth every penny - now you can see all of the hard work to the pretty eye makeup that I put on crystal clear! Paul and the Plaza Optical team provide the best service of any business I patronize. They're not only attentive and supportive, they put my needs and desires above their own! As you probably know, that's rarer than it should be. But it's not rare at Plaza Optical; it's their modus operandi. For example, a while back I decided to be brave and try new frames for my eyeglasses. Paul and the P.O. team were a great help in giving me choices and patiently serving me while I hemmed and hawed. When I finally made my choice they delivered a great pair of glasses that I THOUGHT I loved. Flash forward three months and I'm in the store with my son. Paul asked me how I liked my new frames. I told him I was ambivalent about them. He said to come back in and he would remedy that. Flash forward again and I have a new set of frames that I've been rockin' ever since (w/ no additional charge!!!!!). THAT is putting the customer first.
