Sometimes I go in there and the staff is friendly and awesome. But majority of the time it feels like we are bothering them . Honestly selling stuff online is way better than going here but occasionally I find a good deal. The trade in value is never very good - and the selection probably be better if they offered better trade in value. I'm very happy that new people came in and bought the store from the old owner. I didn't want this place to go. They're doing a great job in these pandemic times. You can't go inside the store, they have a table set out front. I wanted to buy a golf putter so I called beforehand and they were able to quickly tell me what they had. Ive enjoyed having a used sports equipment store in Eugene and have bought and sold many things over the course of 30 years here. Today, I had an unpleasant experience with one of the staff there, perhaps even its owner, though I dont know. He was a moustachioed, thin man. I brought in a camp stove and three river-rafting jackets for them to consider. Another man there, quite burly and courteous, said he was interested in the rafting gear. But the other man said that they didnt take camping equipment. Fine. When I moved to place the rafting stuff on the counter, the moustachioed man repeated that they didnt take "it." And then, as I put the rafting gear on the counter, he said, "No takee!" I am Asian American. I knew what that meant. I said, "I speak English. I heard you the first time," and added an expletive. Then he said, "And how--I guess you do," likely referring to my expletive. Then he added he wasnt going to take "anything." I gathered my stuff and left. This kind of thing used to happen to me fairly regularly here in Eugene, but that was 20-30 years ago. I am angered its still happening now. I am disappointed that a staff member or the owner of this business felt so free to insult me with this comically racialized speech. Is Play It Again Sports a place for "Whites Only"? read more

Found the staff very friendly, helpful, and honest here. A much different shopping experience from a big Sporting Goods Store which I appreciated. Get your gear from a sports store!! This is not a place where your satisfaction is guaranteed or where you would expect customer service. We purchased two sets of snow shoes (brand new) with proof of purchase. We used it once and told them if would could return and maybe upgrade to a better set. I came in to see how much an item would cost. I stood there for at least 5 minutes. They weren't really busy at all and they saw me. They didn't even acknowledge me. As soon as someone else walked in, I felt like they gave them the royal treatment. Very poor customer service. Believe me, I will never return. It seemed to me that they didn't really care at all. The staff are consistently knowledgeable never making fun of my ignorance of sports. Came in today looking for a pair of baseball pants for my son. Store is well stocked; but lots of treadmill type machines. Does seem clean and tidy! Customer service is seriously lacking; 3 employees up at the front desk were involved in their own conversation and didn't approach us or ask if we needed assistance. We found the baseball area and were looking to purchase blue pin-striped youth baseball pants. We thought by checking with them first we may save some money! We are visiting here from California for a baseball tournament and my son forgot his "other set" of baseball pants. I didn't want to spend much & since he would only be needing them for one day, we thought we would check this spot first, but unfortunately they didn't have what we were looking for. I approached the employees and asked if they could call another site : 1 of the 3 locations listed. The one guy, I managed to pull away - I had him call the closest location which they didn't have anything either! He then claimed they didn't have the number to the other one ( farthest place ) he said "we don't have their number because we generally don't do business with them". Okay!?? We just left & ended up calling around to Dicks, Sport Authority and checked a few thrifts with "no luck" either. Our best bet is to have my son "barrow" from another player who may not need them that day ( if their not playing) or from another player here from our "other" team. Found an awesome longboard in great condition for much less than it would have been new. Plus found a really nice basketball that my daughter wouldn't stop bouncing so we had to get that too :) Service was good, prices were right, and they gave me a 10% off coupon for the nest time. I found the staff to be arrogant and kind of abrupt. I went into get a long-standing credit for which, when it was issued, I was assured I could redeem for cash at any time. As I walked in I was asked what I needed and I told them. The young salesman told me Getting cash for a credit was not allowed. I said that I had been promised that I could do exactly that. He, in a fairly demanding voice, said "who told you that?". It had been years so of course I didn't remember and I said so. He told me he was sure it was not possible to get a cash refund and "I'm not gonna do it". I was then invited to "wait around for 15 minutes for the manager and you can ask him". As I was telling him that I wasn't planning to do that and that the manager could call me, the manager walked in. The employee yelled at the manager" this guy wants to cash out a credit" to which the manager said "fine", and proceeded to give me my money. What could have been and should've been an ordinary business transaction was almost a confrontation because of the immature sales person with the bad demeanor. I felt like I was dealing with a child (with a beard). As soon as the manager volunteered to give me my money the offending employee got super embarrassed and left the scene. Basically, it was poor customer service incarnate. But, it should be said that the manager gave me no problem and was fine. read more

While I love this concept, this business does not execute. Visiting on a somewhat busy Saturday afternoon, I was not greeted when I entered (not a big deal for me), and was left to myself to navigate a disorderly, helter-skelter of cardboard boxes and sports randomness. After perusing for awhile, I was disappointed that "used" prices were not too different from that of brand-new equivalents found at competing stores. Willing to give the benefit toward a local business, I heaved my item to the front desk and was greeted with clerks more interested in their phones and lunch, than in customer service. Granted, the savory pizza laid out on the front counter looked amazing...but I digress. When the clerk finally rang me up, he gave me a total that was nearly twice the amount I expected to pay (based off of price posted above product on floor). I told him this, but he didn't seem to care, and neither did I. I left sans sale, and will not be returning any time soon. I really want this place to flourish, but it needs some serious overhaul in order to do so. read more

Yes they are happy to pay you $5 for $60 soccer cleats. However, you will get more value out of the tax deduction by giving them to St. Vinnie's I bought a u-lock for my son's bike and it was stolen a month later. They only carry the one brand. The locks have no warrantee and reviews on line indicate that they can be opened with a PEN. When I talked to the manager about the quality of the lock, he claimed that they had never had a complaint about them. He went on to say that even the manufacturers who warrantee locks won't honor the warrantee in Eugene. (So why bother to carry good locks right?) In the city with the highest rate of bike theft in the country, I expect the local shops to carry quality merchandise. Play It Again fails to meet that expectation without appology. Once again, Play it Again is willing to take your money and leave you in the lurch. read more

My daughter is attending UO and wanted a used bike to get around campus since she is on a budget and believes in repurposing. She is on a tight budget and this was her first larger purchase unassisted, something she wanted to do on her own. She had saved her birthday money and purchased a bike that was older, but was assured by the salesman that it was in great shape with minimal use. She was proud of her purchase and looked forward to biking instead of walking to school. The first time she rode it the chain broke in half two miles from her home, leaving her stranded. Upon further inspection by a reputable bike shop, we discovered it was so worn it wasn't worth repairing. Beware and do not take the word of anyone associated with the store. Don't purchase anything without and independent inspection unless you are knowledgable of the product, unless you want to get ripped off. read more
