They scheduled me incorrectly for a men's haircut which would have been good to know before sitting and waiting for 20+ minutes. Not the mention the stylist was very rude.

I do not pay to get my hair done often but when I do I love a bouncy regular blowout with a slight curl underneath (the curl that is formed naturally from the round brush). Always thought the term blowout was understood in the salon industry as straight with a slight twist but she added a lot of curls (could've been my mistake). She was kind enough to redo them twice when I expressed dissatisfaction, but was still not understanding the concept of what I was asking for or my reference picture. Ended up going with a straight blowout since I knew that was something I could work with to achieve the look at home. Just upset that I ended up paying $60 which already felt like a lot for a fully straight blowout (and spent an hour at the salon), a result that I could've done myself

That's the only way to put it. She is absolutely amazing and creates magic. It's been a bit over a month now since my haircut and I am still obsessed with it. She did such an amazing job and I can't wait to have her cut my hair again. She made it such an amazing experience and chats with you the whole time. At the end she gave me a blow out and I was so happy with the results. This continues to be my favorite place to get a haircut, and I will continue going back! Thank you Philips salon and Ersi!

I have nothing bad to say about the ladies who work here, I know they're hustling and trying their best. But if you're not trained properly even if you work your ass off you could still not achieve the outcome you're going for. Please don't hold anything against the employees who work here. Cons: Highly defensive and gaslighting owner. Cares only about the reputation of her business, but doesn't have the genuine care it takes to retain loyal customers. Very fake "friendly," like aggressively friendly to the point where you're not allowed to have your own feelings or opinions. Will cut you off and claim you're the one interrupting, will assume any pushback is an attack, will think the worst of you when you're trying your best to be courteous to everyone else. Also: your brows will be bleached off such that you don't have any brows anymore lmao. Bro I'm so embarrassed, fortunately I wear glasses so the top frame of my glasses can hide my (lack of) brows And yes, my hair was messed up this time again, too. I look like a clown up-close right now, but it can wait a little while for me to find another salon to fix the mess. If you want the full story see my photos. And please, read the other one- or two- star reviews... they show a pattern. I should've done more research before getting my hopes up so much. I wanted so bad to find "my stylist" that I would be loyal to forever. It's just like dating I guess, gotta kiss a lot of frogs...

NEW LOCATION, NEW NAME, SAME GREAT PEOPLE!…read more I've been getting my hair cut here since ~2001 (guy), so of course I followed them to their brand new digs. No longer called "MK Hair Studio", they are now "Studio 3" (because it used to be an event space for the restaurant next door). It is a much bigger, quite attractive salon space now. Easy to find, just look for the giant Julia Child mural on a Monolith out front on the sidewalk of Broad Canal Way, just down from Cafe Luna on the same side of the street. You may see a sidewalk sign on the corner directing you to another business, but that is a barber shop of the other side of the street (don't go there lol!). Your GPS may give the wrong location for the salon, so just remember it is on the first block of Broad Canal Way, just past where it runs into 3rd Street (again, look for Cafe Luna on the corner and then Julia Child). As far as parking, not quite as good a deal as the old OKS location (that was $5 for $35 3 hour parking), they now charge $10 for 4 hours parking which would normally cost at least $32 (I stayed less than 3, so can't confirm the time limit and they didn't seem 100% sure). Which is nice if you also want to get lunch at Shy Bird nearby (excellent fried chicken sandwiches and smash burgers). No chaser tickets now, they validate via computer at the end of your appointment The parking lot is the "350 Kendall Garage", but don't use that in your GPS. Entering 302 Kendall St, Cambridge, MA 02142 in Apple Maps gives me the actual entrance to the spacious underground garage which is behind Studio 3 on the next street over intersecting with 3rd St (so come down 3rd and turn on Kendall St and it will be on your right). You'll then have to walk a couple of blocks to get to Studio 3. There is some confusing construction, so pull a map up on your smartphone. When you enter the garage building on the way out, bypass the ground floor office and put your validated ticket into the machine next to the office and pay by credit card. ***The trick I learned is to remove your credit card very slowly, or it won't take it.***

Salon JLS is awful. I got my eyebrows done by a cool stylist, who did an amazing (AMAZING!) job…read more However, I can't give the business more than one star, because the owner is a joke. While I was in the salon with two other customers, the stylist, and Joao (the owner), he decided it would be appropriate to scold the stylist for accepting a walk in haircut appointment 30 minutes before she had a scheduled appointment with someone else. Like, do you not want business, Joao? Would you prefer the stylist not care about customers and rudely turn her away for no reason? The stylist apologized for the delay, and the other customer was totally fine with it. No one was upset, except Joao. He continued berating her unnecessarily, making the situation much more dramatic than it should have been, until she broke down in tears and explained to him that she felt really humiliated by the way he was talking to her (which just seemed to fuel him further, he just kept going). It was such an awkward situation, and so so surreal. It was like he didn't care that there were 3 paying customers in the room who didn't really want to watch him making a talented hair stylist who was doing nothing wrong cry...actually, I think he even liked it! He was smiling; it was very disturbing. Really, there are so many good salons in Boston. Salons that will at least offer you some tea or coffee while you wait for your $65-80 haircut. And you can drink that tea or coffee in an actual waiting room! Salon JLS is a no-frills, unclassy salon with no waiting area that charges the same as a nice salon that DOES have the frills. It doesn't even feel like pampering at Salon JLS; not worth it! *especially when they don't take responsibility for their actions. Don't you want to go to a nice salon where they treat everyone with respect and say sorry when they mess up? Just saying.
