Just flew in from Austin and we were craving a yummy lunch. Every time I see a Caprese panini -- I'm sold! This was by far the best Caprese sandwich I've ever had. Each year when I come back from snowbirding in Arizona I look for places in Bend that I haven't tried. I was in the mood for a Cuban sandwhich . I discovered Planker Sandwhiches menu and bingo! The Pork Belly (ala cuban sandwich ) was there for me to try. Some reviewers said the sandwhich was small in size for the price ($12.50). I tend to agree but food wise the taste was very good. Holy Tri Tip! That Tri Tip sandwich was incredible! Literally one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Cute little space in Bend. My husband got the Italian and it was good but he didnt realize it was a hot sandwich. We got my son the ham and cheese panini and it was delicious! The cheese on the sandwich was so good! My daughter the kids peanut butter and honey sandwich and it tasted like dessert. They had a few beers and ciders on tap which was great as well. Upon giving it another shot today I noticed the price of the sandwich had increased, the chips used to be included, they are now $2 extra and the sandwich is significantly smaller. Unarguably among the best of sandwiches in Bend or maybe anywhere. Sandwiches made of top quality ingredients at great value prices by the nicest people offering gracious friendly service. If I could wave a magic wand here, I'd provide the owners with a better location outside of downtown Bend, with easier parking outside and less tight table space inside so more people could more easily get to and buy sandwiches. The too tight interior is a big miss and the reason for four star review and not five. Otherwise, it is all excellent here. PRICES Unbeatable value for such good quality and generous sizes. Prices run from about $5 to $9 and my hubby and I often find sharing a sandwich works well to fill us up. VARIETY There are options to make carnivores and vegetarians happy and perhaps vegans too. For those who eat meat, note they roast their own meats and make their own meatballs. (Since the owners' surname reflects Italian heritage, I'm thinking those meatballs are likely darned good.) There are cold sandwiches and pannini on the menu. How the sandwiches are plated is cool too. They are served on a little round metal "pizza pan" with a sheet of butcher / waxed paper on top that has the Planker logo. And depending on the sandwich, you might even have a sharp knife thoughtfully provided on the plate to use as needed. They also have two or three salads that look delicious. PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP This is an establishment that reflects the family run nature of the business and also that the owners have experience in the food service industry to make all the quality pieces come together. It doesn't get better than this for the nexus of hospitality and quality. Cool! AWKWARD INTERIOR SPACE The hitch in the giddeyup here is the tiny, tight space of the shop in downtown Bend. It is almost as if a gauntlet in the narrow space between tables lining each wall to get up to the order counter and really no good out of the way space to wait on your order, if you're taking it to go. And if you're eating in, the sardine can tight tables are awkward. You now what I mean - someone getting into the table next to you has to pass their lower cheek too close to your upper cheek to make the squeeze. But that is what it is. THIS N THAT: 1) In summer you might be able to snag a seat at one of the couple of tables out on the downtown sidewalk outside the shop. 2) People using wheelchairs or pushing strollers will likely find the space inside too narrow to be easily accessible. 3) Breakfast sandwiches served all day - can't beat the egg, tomato and cheese English Muffin sandwich for a delicious five buck breakfast! read more

Scanning Yelp for lunch this go round I was immediately drawn here again. I tried to fight the urge, thinking there was something better around the corner, but this time, the universe made sure I ate, and I'm glad I did! I ordered the Tuna Club, thanks to Yelp photos! Creamy white albacore tuna salad with fresh herbs and a bit of celery for crunch, topped with thick slices of tomatoes, red leaf lettuce and nice pieces of bacon. I had them make mine as a melt with cheddar cheese, on one of their English muffins. I was warned that this would be a mess, and I'm glad that message was received loud and clear. The sandwich was easily a 6 napkin affair, and I ended up using the delicious kettle chips it came with to scoop up the remainder. This was delicious, and the smokiness of the bacon was awesome when combined with herbed mayo! The menu is chock full of all star combos and I'm really looking forward to trying more on future visits. Heck, I might even go tomorrow for breakfast! I worked in an A+ sandwich shop in Providence, RI, and these are rules we always followed: 1. Always cut in half diagonalply so the tips can be bitten off first; 2.
