Everything you need for a good bike, whether you're a casual rider, commuter, or racer. I went in the first time to browse and the sales guys helpfully showed me a number of different bikes that might interest me -- no pressure to buy, just "here's some stuff to help you figure out what you need." I went in the second time to buy. Lucky me, the model they'd assembled for the display was exactly the right height for me. I took it out for a spin on the road out back and was sold! But first -- I needed a safety check, and the guys at the shop needed time to make some adjustments to make sure the display was ready for the road. Sebastian was my sales guy, and he took me around the store to find a helmet for my not-much-bigger-than-childsized head. I tried on several of the dozens of different kinds they had in stock. He also showed me the different options for accessories, should I choose to buy any, and let me know what I might actually need vs. what just looked cool. All in all, it was an awesome experience, and I was happy to give them my money. I will definitely be going back for all of my biking needs. read more

Great bike shop with very knowledgeable staff. Good deals on last year's models. Found a great road bike on sale and they made the buying experience very enjoyable. Highly recommend! read more

This place was amazing! Me and my fiancé are super new to bike riding, Matt helped us find plenty of new things we didn't know we needed, tire kits, air pump, and biking shoes. I will definitely be back here! read more

I haven't bought anything here, but I dropped by twice scoping out bikes and found them to be very friendly. I went to a couple of spots around town before dropping by this one, and I got the annoying bike snobbery from the other places. Sebastian was friendly and gave me good advice regarding anything I wanted to know. He didn't look down on any of the bikes I inquired even though they were the odd ones out of the bunch. If they have the name brand bike you are interested in -- do check these guys out. The shop has a wide range of bikes and many sizes for you to try out. I ended up buying from a different store, but that's only because they had the name brand I wanted. If these guys had Bianchi's, we would be in business. read more

I went in for a new chain and received amazing service from JC. I paid $15 for the chain and $15 for the service. He went above and beyond when caring for my bike and also gave me a couple suggestions. I will come back simply because of the service. read more

They were extremely helpful in showing me hybrid bike options and Jim (sales guy) was really great in saying what he thought could fit me (I'm only 4'11" so this has always been an issue). I did like a Cannondale women's Adventure 3 (w/700c not the standard 26"); however, they did not have one built out in my size (small). Jim checked their stock and found one still in a box in the back. He mentioned he would build it out and it would be ready for me to test ride this weekend. The very next morning I get a call from Jim at 10 am letting me know it was ready for me to test. This will be my 3rd bike purchase and that was easily the quickest build outs I've ever been notified of. I went in this afternoon for the test ride, Jim was off, so another guy (can't remember his name sorry!) helped me. I explained that my hope is to be able to run errands and that I'd want a rear rack on it. This has been an issue in the past, given how small my bike size and seat are. The sales guy started tinkering around and admitted he would have to do some custom edits to the bike in order to get it to work. He explained that it would take a few days for him to make sure it would work and explained the idea he had in mind. That level of service is REALLY nice. I did end up purchasing the bike because even if the rack can't be done, the bike was exactly what I was looking for and the customer service was phenomenal, as opposed to some other bike shops I visited earlier this week (look at my other review if you are curious). read more

Service Department (as well as the rest of staff) was helpful, friendly, fast and knowledgeable. And if you don't need a repair but a searching for a bike, this is the lace. They've got a great selection of bikes too - from racers to those for Weekend riders. read more

Excellent bike shop. I've been to many did these guys are the best in Houston. Shop does amazing work - after a tune up your bike will be new again. Also bought my current road bike from them and had a great experience at a very good price. My go 2 bike shop! read more

Brought my recumbent (a Burley - Koosah) in for a tune-up after purchasing it second hand. One of the service guys (Danny) was very knowledgeable with respect to recumbent bikes and offered me some insight into the design of my bike and how certain issues could be resolved. He identified wear in areas I would never have looked and proposed some additional servicing (on top of the tune up) to replace the rear tire tread. Josiah did the servicing on my bike and took the extra time to make some modifications that stabilized the rear fender. They were both personable and friendly. I was extremely pleased with their desire to improve my bike and make it safer (as opposed to just doing the standard lube). Even though Planetary is much further away from our house, they've managed to make a believer out of me. I'll continue to use them for bike servicing/parts/etc. The only downside was that they're not a part of the NuRide program. As a bike commuter in Houston, I love getting small discounts for biking to work. read more

Bought a Cannondale Synapse last July and brought it in for complimentary adjustments. The guy who was helping me noticed my bell did not fit on the handle bar and found and extra one they had that did and installed it. He also fixed a knocking sound that I couldn't locate and made other adjustments. He had me test ride it and then I took it out for a 22 mile ride the next day and seemed brand new. They are always very helpful, professional and friendly. read more

I've purchased my mountain bike as well as my road bike at Planetary Cycle and I always received a great service, useful advices and tips. Recently I've experienced an accident during a ride. My road bike was all messed up and Court just fixed it immediately for me. He checked that the entire bike was fine and thus I was able to ride it right away! I definitively recommend these guys for their professionalism and friendliness. read more

This place is amazing, friendly staff, the best place if you are looking for a trike!!

Excelent services, if you are looking for a bike , you will get the help and the expertise of the owner Adam.

Great customer service! Everyone was very helpful, kind and confident. Highly recommend!

Always there when we need help. I'd a lot of my own maintenance and the help with good advice.

Great sales support. David helped tremendously. Very happy with the buying experience!

Only store in town that seemed to have my size for a cycling shoe. Gave them a call, said they had some options, drove up there and sure enough I got to take my pick. Great vibes in this place, super cool people, great service. Installed the cleats on my shoes before I left. Even gave me a free water bottle for leaving this review, I needed one of those anyway. read more

Great local store, great service and they have affordable bikes in stock. Also have all the accessories you could want.

I took my Electra Townie bike in because I thought the tire tube was bad. I didn't buy the bike there but they were more than willing to help me out. They gave my bike a thorough checking only to find the tire just needed air. Nonetheless, they checked everything else on the bike out, tightened up a few loose bolts, etc. and didn't charge me a thing! So nice! On top of that, they helped me make the decision to keep the bike instead of sell it or trade it in. The next day I went in and bought accessories for my bike and they gave me 10% off. So nice! The staff is super knowledgeable and they don't try to push you into something you don't need or want. I really appreciate their honesty and willingness to help! read more

These people were so patient with me! I came back for months looking into the trike I wanted and EVERYONE was so helpful! Once I went in after an owner had left, leaving the mice to play, only they were all working and I had to grab them away to do my things, which they all did. After that I settled down and made an appointment so I got ALL the attention. My trike was built, accessorized, chains adjusted, tried out and made all correct before I took it home. Planetary Cycles rocks as far as I am concerned! read more

I love this bicycle shop. I got my first bicycle years ago from Adam when he was still on breaswood. The staff seems to be very knowledgeable and helpful. They had an employee by the name of Fred. He had nice strong legs and he used to fix my derailer real gud. He's gone now :( read more

I LOVE this bike shop. The staff here knows their stuff, and they'll take great care of you. Today Brittany hooked me up with some caps for my tires and not only helped me pick out a good mount for my cell phone, but she helped me put it together too. Brittany, you rock! This place is great. read more

Great local bike place, just bought a great bike from there with their help. Friendly staff as well.

Best bike shop I've found in Houston so far. It's not a large shop but they have a great selection of the few brands they do have - mostly Giant and Cannondale. If you want that new Giant bike that just came out, this shop will probably be your best bet. The staff is knowledgeable and nice, and their service prices are great. When you buy a bike, I think you get some free service plan for a few months, but they usually won't charge you for minor fixes and checkups anyway. I think I've come here for service 5-6 times after my plan expired and only ever paid once (replacement for a bent wheel). They've always got staff in the service area so fixes that don't require ordering parts are always really quick. No more having to wait a week to get a flat tire fixed at Boone Cycles... read more

I bought my bike here about a year ago. Yesterday, while riding I hit an uneven surface and I flattened both of my tires. Today, around lunchtime I took my bike to get serviced. As a result of buying my bike here, I was able to get one of my tires repaired for free. Woohoo!!! However, because I was going about 15 MPH and hit an uneven surface, I also knew I must have damaged part of my rim. Well, Jeremiah, I got the name from my sales receipt, was super awesome saved me some money by bending the rim back so that it was still rideable, thus saving me money on buying a new one. Also, wait time for the repair was minimal. Woohoo, again!!! read more

Brittany is awesome! Bought my boyfriend's bike there today (after buying my own bike there over a year ago), and it has the same, consistent service every time. Couldn't ask for better service! read more

I bought my Cannondale road bike from these guys a little over a year ago. I was (and still am) pretty much a novice but they did a great job of patiently explaining the different models to me and what I was paying for and even let me know what wasn't necessary. They also fitted me to the bike and were very helpful in picking out accessories (like a speedometer, pedals, head and tail lights, etc. Now, a year later I wanted to have my bike checked out before a long ride and, despite this being one of the busiest times of year for them, they squeezed me right away and and got me squared away. And for free. One thing I will say is that they tend to be a little under-staffed and when there are a lot of people in the store it can be hard to get attention and they may even come off a little rude when they are overwhelmed. But in general they are all nice guys and are very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend them, especially if you want either a Cannondale (since not all stores carry these) or a recumbent bike (since they seem to specialize in them). Also, they are not the best on the phone. I would recommend just going into the store and you will be treated right by these guys. read more

My family has purchased from Planetary Cycles since I was a little kid, but this was my first experience purchasing a "real" bike (bye-bye Electra Townie!) using my own funds, so I wanted to make sure I went somewhere where I would receive real sales assistance from avid bike enthusiasts. Planetary Cycles was the first thing that came to mind. My husband and I came in on a Saturday evening about an hour before closing, possibly a bit buzzed from enjoying afternoon Hay Merchant brews, in order to check out some bikes and receive a little education about what might be best for our needs (exercise + leisurely rides on paved trails, neighborhood streets, restaurants & bar-hopping, etc...). Matt greeted me within a few minutes and was very helpful even after I explained to him that, besides the occasional spin class, we are novice riders who were just browsing and weren't really interested in purchasing at that time (we were planning to hold off on the purchase until Christmastime). You could definitely tell Matt is an engineer as he was very detail-oriented. He walked us through the different options for male and female, but suggested I would be suited for a mens/unisex bike as I am a taller female and also averse to girly colors (does any adult really want/need a purple bike?!). Since it was raining that day and we couldn't test ride outside, Matt wrote up a list of several models he recommended for us (Cannondale and Giant) and their prices, and we went online that evening to read reviews and compare options. Rather than wait 6 months like we had originally planned, the process made us excited to back the next day to test out our selections and make a purchase (why should we wait until Xmas for bikes when the weather is perfect now?!. Not sure why we didn't think of this before). When we came back on Sunday morning, Sebastian (or Sea-bass, as I heard another employee affectionately call him) was very helpful, too. We told him about our discussion with Matt, and Sebastian even had additional information to add, which was probably a bit more high-level and more appropriate for our limited knowledge of cycling, and he made us feel at ease with our decision to purchase. Before checking out with our Cannondale Quick 4s in matching mariner blue (much to my husband's dismay), Sebastian walked us through the 4 "tions" of cycling, which included protection (helmet); illumination (lighting/reflectors); hydration (water); and... I forget the rest, to ensure we purchased any biking essentials we did not already have at home. He also explained the process for airing the tires on the particular bike we purchased, the process for which is a little different from the norm. When we got to the register, Sebastian put in an order for the second bike as only one was in stock, and waived the deposit. The second bike should be ready in about 7-10 business days, which is acceptable, if not quicker than I had anticipated. In the meantime my husband and I took turns riding the bike around the neighborhood yesterday afternoon and have already put 25 miles on it. I can tell they will get a lot of use and we will definitely head back to PC for tuneups and to purchase additional bike accessories in the future. read more

Friendly staff. Never pressured me. Got a awesome bike and service. Alan took me through the whole store and answered all my questions. I've been to at least a ten bike stores around town and most of them didn't even stop and ask to help me. If you actually go in instead of go online there are some in store sales just like the Cannondale I bought. read more

This is hands down the best bike shop in Houston. Their customer service is fantastic and their staff is very knowledgeable. They have a huge variety of bikes, parts, and accessories. I highly recommend this place. My partner and I had a great experience here with Brittany. She is knowledge, professional and not pushy. Brittany rocks! She helped me size a helmet and check out some bikes. Super informative and friendly and there was no pressure to buy.

My dad and I came to shop for bikes and I ended up getting a Contend 3. I was pleasantly surprised by how approachable all the staff were and didn't try to pressure us into buying anything read more

Excellent service. I bought cycling shoes and broke the Boa by mistake. They assisted me with fixing the problem within a day. I am very happy and thankful with their attention given to this problem. I have given them several opportunities since they are around the corner and it is "convenient", and the first time around I had a gift certificate (I have visit them in three different occasions)... But results are always the same. The people at the shop is very rude, and even a routine tune up for my road bike turned out to be challenging for them... Finally, they charge 15$ labor for a 5 min job... so I would call that VERY EXPENSIVE!!! read more

The atmosphere is such that it is comforting to people with a lot of money to spend and might make other customers feel irrelevant. However, each time I've actually talked to an employee, they were both nice and knowledgeable. If you know nothing about bikes and are looking for a nice bike, I'm betting this will be a great place for you to go. If you know a lot about bikes, you'll likely get a good employee who loves biking and doesn't suddenly have a bone to pick with you if you reject their recommendation. Overall, it was a positive experience compared to other bike shops I've been to lately. read more
