I picked up my bike from Planetary Cycles yesterday - they were amazing! I haven't owned a bike in many years, and they provided really helpful consultation when I was trying out different models and sizes. I got a special order color, and when I picked up my bike, they spent time showing me how everything worked and adjusting the seat and handles bars so it fit properly. They also installed accessories on the spot very quickly so I could ride it home. My husband had purchased his bike at Bike Barn a few weeks ago and said "you guys are 1,000 times better than Bike Barn!", and I couldn't agree more! I used to live near Planetary and regularly went there for bike fixes and buying bike gear. I've been to many bike stores and I can definitively say Planetary is the best there is. Every time I walked in, an employee greeted me and asked how he/she could help. The employees are well-knowledged and very helpful choosing bike gear. Whenever I had bike issues, the mechanic would stop what he was doing, take a look at the bike, and explain what the problem was to me and possible options. They fixed my bike in a timely fashion and when I picked up my bikes, one of the mechanics would walk out the door with me and help me mount my bike back on my car. Planetary Cycles also sponsored the Meetup bike group's pizza and beer nights, creating a space for Houston cyclists to hang out and get to know one another. She went between a few bikes and he just kept going and never showed anything but patience. We were able to find the right bike for my daughter and leave with it the same day. I just bought my first road bike here and I appreciate all the help I got from Brittany. I had questions and was trying to decide between a Cannondale here or a Liv bike at another shop. There was no pressure and she even suggested I look at the other bike to compare. The other store offered incentives to buy from them, discount on the bike and future purchases, but I came back to Planetary Cycles for the service, better quality bike and the Guru Fit Service. Matt, who do the Guru Fit was very patient with my lack of cycling knowledge, like being able to clip in and out of the pedals. He took the time to help me, made the bike adjustments and even gave me a mini lesson in shifting before I did my test ride I my new bike. I've had nothing but great one on one service directly from the owner Adam here. I bought a $7,000 mtb here (my most expensive single bike purchase yet yikes!) and had a follow up text every few days asking how I liked the new rig etc. Nothing better than dropping big bucks on a bike to have follow up service because the guy really wants to know you like the investment you let him guide you into. Nothing worse than spending that kind of money and leaving feeling like you gave a jerko all your cash. Great selection. Good mechanics. Great owner / owners Adam and Danny. I purchased a pair of Giro Sante cycling shoes for my spin classes a while back. I also purchased the clips and the sales associate placed them on and secured them very well. However my left shoe clip has shifted a couple of times despite being placed on very tightly. This was very much an inconvenience when I attempted to clip in before a class and my left shoe would not. I managed to safely complete the class without any injuries with only one foot clipped in, as I was desperate to burn some cals. Upon going back to the store they were very friendly and helpful readjusting my clip and giving me advice on the upkeep of my shoes. Brittany was exceptionally helpful and friendly. She readjusted my clip and gave me excellent pointers. She also threw in a complimentary portable wrench to keep in my gym bag to prevent the problem in the future. The staff is very knowledgable and helpful in addressing questions and concerns, and they do it with a friendly smile. read more

Outstanding service! My husband is new to road biking & just bought a used bike. It wasn't riding smoothly so he called Planetary for help. Planetary was more than happy to help us with fitting & adjustments, free of charge. Jared also talked to him & taught him a LOT about riding & gave answers to all of his questions. Jared also discussed the components and different angles of riding with my husband. The bike is now ready to ride, & I feel secure that he'll know how to ride it safely. It is rare that you have the opportunity to walk into a store and feel happy that you are spending your money there. Planetary Cycles is that place. I called asking for advice about bikes. I know how to ride one (who didn't ride one as a kid) but the fact that I am really tall, and I'm still about 4 feet short for my weight does not make the task of choosing a bicycle easy. Heck, there is not much choice. I was afraid that I was going to have to spend at least a mortgage payment to get a bicycle that would work, but when I asked about the options, Adam, the owner, mentioned a very affordable cruiser (which is kind of what I was wanting) so my wife and I headed over there. The store is nice and clean, they have an indoor bike track (small) to test out the bikes and a ton of advice. My wife pressured me into buying a helmet because my life insurance is never paid up...they even had one my size. They let me take the bike out to the parking lot to try it out and then gave it a good once-over before we walked out of the shop with it just a few minutes later. Matt, the salesperson that we spoke with while at the store, was amazingly helpful. I really enjoyed my experience here. The money stayed local, I had a great customer service experience, and got to work with people who love what they do! read more

Went in looking for a bike part so I could try to fix something on my own. Before I knew it the employees were dropping everything to try to fix my problem for me free of charge. I purchased one of the parts I needed there but they didn't the other hard-to-find part in stock so they sent me to another bike shop that would have it but not before telling me to come back so they could install it for me. So, I came in not sure of what I'd get. It has the look of a large brand name store on the outside. But the people inside were really relaxed and nice, what you'd expect from a small local shop. I went to four different shops in Houston before buying my new commuter bike. I ended up on the Cannondale Quick 4 from this shop. It just felt like the best hybrid for the money, and I really liked how light it felt. The first day I tried it, it was raining, but they let me slowly ride it through the shop. No pressure to buy it, it was a relaxed look-see, and the staff member (I forget her name) was really nice and helpful. I came back a couple days later, and took it for a test ride in the parking lot. The only recommendation, for their OWN sake, is that maybe they should provide helmets to riders on test rides. I purchased my bike here last week and am about to go pick it up on Saturday, so I'll hope the great service continues! It comes with a 30 and 90 day tune-up, which I'll be sure to utilize. read more

The guys at Planetary Cycles know a lot about bikes. They organize community rides along the bayou, rent bikes, repair bikes, and sell bikes and accessories. They're usually friendly. The prices here can be steep, so do a little comparison shopping and come back with an offer if you think they're overcharging you. They're not a bad alternative to the big chain bike stores, but I think there are independents in town that carry better (to me) brands than Cannondale, Giant, and Electra. In addition to the standard two-wheeler, Planetary Cycles also sells recumbent bikes and (adult) tricycles. I have kind of a thing against these guys because I once applied to be a bike mechanic here and was pretty much told that girls don't do that, without being given a chance to even demo my skills. However, this is Texas, so I'll let them slide long enough to write this review. read more

There are bike shops and then there is Planetary Cycles. People that own and manage and hire people like them - people that have spent their lives working on and with bicycles. And when I say they're in it - they have designed bicycles and had them manufactured to their specifications. They don't just know, they care - they aren't about selling you the most expensive bike in the shop - they're about listening and learning about what you're doing - so if you cruise the neighborhood or race on dirt or road and all in between - Adam and his crew are simply outstanding. I bought a giant hybrid from this place 2 years ago. My initial purchase experience was a pleasant one. All the staff were friendly to me, especially Josiah who helped me find the perfect bike. I had ridden it only twice when I shortly broke my ankle requiring 2 surgeries a year apart. Normally they offer a free tuneup/adjustment 30 days after your purchase but they were nice about doing mine last week, over two years later now that I'm finally able to get active again. They even adjusted my one knee scooter for me last year when my manager stole it from me, fell, and twisted the handle bars. I will definitely go back again when I'm able to afford my dream bike. read more

Went in to test out a Giant hybrid. Jay was great help, very professional, very courteous. I was able to take a long test ride around the empty parking lot next to the store. Wasn't 100% sure, so I took a cannondale out to compare. I liked the Giant better. A week later had trouble trying to switch out the pedals. Everything you need for a good bike, whether you're a casual rider, commuter, or racer. I went in the first time to browse and the sales guys helpfully showed me a number of different bikes that might interest me -- no pressure to buy, just "here's some stuff to help you figure out what you need." I went in the second time to buy. Lucky me, the model they'd assembled for the display was exactly the right height for me. I took it out for a spin on the road out back and was sold! But first -- I needed a safety check, and the guys at the shop needed time to make some adjustments to make sure the display was ready for the road. Sebastian was my sales guy, and he took me around the store to find a helmet for my not-much-bigger-than-childsized head. I tried on several of the dozens of different kinds they had in stock. He also showed me the different options for accessories, should I choose to buy any, and let me know what I might actually need vs. what just looked cool. All in all, it was an awesome experience, and I was happy to give them my money. I will definitely be going back for all of my biking needs. read more
