Fast. Honest. Competent. 100% squared away. Jonathan is smart and professional and I recommend him without hesitation.

Jonathan is one of one. He is the complete opposite of the greedy businesses that run rampant in our community. He went above and beyond servicing my bike at a very reasonable price and educating me along the way with information I don't normally receive from other shops. We need more people like him in our society, driven by the desire to do good work and be a positive influence. There is no need to go to anybody else. Jonathan is top tier. read more

Jonathan is amazing. He is meticulous and does a great job. I previously took my Masi road bike to bike barn and they charged me lots of money for a tune up. Sure, I was able to ride; still some grinding on the gears and occasional unchaining during rides. Jonathan took care of my bike like his own. Took her apart, cleaned and lubricated her. Adjusted EVERYTHING. She rides brand new. Jonathan is the real deal at a fraction of the price. Don't bother with a bike shop. This guy is a pro. It's rare to meet someone who takes pride in doing his job well. Many praise and thanks Jonathan! read more

Broken Spoke Bicycle - Cleanest I've ever seen this bike since I purchased it she's 20 years old and rides like the day I got her. - Bike Repair/Maintenance Near Me - Houston, Texas

I found Broken Spoke Bicycle on Saturday and connected with Jonathan. Took it over to him and he told me more about the bike than anyone else has told me in the 16 years I've had it. Showed me his shop and told me he likes to fix them in one day. So I left it with him and sure enough he got back to me Sunday afternoon. When I got there he went over what he did and gave me tips on what to do to keep it in great shape. Jonathan does what he says he going to do. He is honest and is very reasonable. He does business the way people used to do! I've read every review here and what people are saying is exactly right. Don't look any further, let him help you. You'll be happy with his work. This morning I enjoyed a ride on my bike that was like it was when I first got it! read more

He said they were worth fixing and boy was he right. New tires, cables, derailer, brake cables and a compete teardown, rebuilt and complete cleaning. These bad boys look and ride absolutely amazing. I found Jonathan's business after I literally broke a spoke two days ago before a ride. I ran an online search and didn't really wanna take it to a big shop. I stumbled on Broken Spoke and called the number. Since I called in the evening, we arranged drop off for the very next day. Jonathan is a very personable and punctual person. The bike was finished the next day, today, which I did not expect! It looks brand new and he also did a tune up for me. Jonathan did all necessary adjustments that are foreign to me and has me set up and ready to go. I'm super excited about taking it on the trail tomorrow. The incredible value coupled with the outstanding service will definitely make me a repeat customer. I can't recommend this business enough! read more

If you're looking for a bike mechanic and all around solid bike person, look no further. Jonathan hooked me up! Recently my wife and I we're headed to Austin for the Austin City Limits Festival. We didn't want to bring our good bikes and as it would turn out John would come to our rescue. My wife's Dad came across a bike in a trash pile and when he showed it to us we thought it could possibly work for our trip. With a little love maybe it would work out. It did and even more than expected. Jonathan took our project and made it a reality. This bike was trashed and he straightened it out beyond what I thought could be done. Fixed the gears. Soaked the bearings and it rides so smooth I can't believe it! The bike was perfect for the weekend and will be an extra for anyone in the fam. Thanks so much for your attention to detail and great work! read more

Found Jonathan via yelp. Reached out to him on Sunday thinking I would get a response tomorrow or later in the week, but he quickly responded to me on the same day even though it was on his off hours! He's very flexible and accommodating with scheduling for a meet up to check out my bike and get it up and running again for me. New tires, inner tubes, handlebar wraps, and front derailleur replacement. Turn around was less than 3 days! It looks so good and the wraps he picked were an awesome surprise since I just left it in the air for him to pick out the color for me. Definitely knew his stuff and taught me how to use my road bike as well. Took it for a test run and he gave me tips and how-to with all my gears. Love that I can safely ride this bike that got handed to me via my sister (she hasn't ridden it in 4-5 years). He gave me a run down on what I needed to watch out for and how to take care of my bike in between tune ups so I wouldn't have to see him too soon again! He also said I could reach out with any questions if I thought of any as well. On a side note he gives back by helping kids learn how to fix up bikes as well. How cool is that?! I would highly recommend him for your bike repairs. read more

I thought I needed all kinds of work on my borrowed bicycle that has been sitting in my friend's garage for who knows how long. I thought I'd need new tubes, all kinds of stuff. I started the work myself, then quickly realized I needed an expert to do this stuff or I was going to mangle everything. Broken Spoke Bicycle was #3 on my search, and the closest to me, so I set up an appointment on a Sunday afternoon at 2. Jonathan took the better part of half an hour to walk me through some of the more important things on my bike, what to look for and how to fix it, aired up my existing tires (didn't need a new tube after all!), and then tinkered with my brakes to ensure they worked properly. All while explaining what he was doing and why, and showing me the tools I would need to do them if I ever got caught out on my own with a broken bike. After he helped me wedge my bicycle BACK into my sedan trunk, I asked him how much I owed him. He waved his hand dismissively and said "All I did was put air in your tires." No, sir. What you did was cement your position as my go-to bike guy for the rest of my time with this - or any - bicycle! read more

My daughter is heading to college and we wanted to get her bike tuned up and ready to go after a few years of neglect. We were on a tight time limit. I found Jonathan's business by chance. His communication was excellent, everything very clear. We had him do an overall tune-up of the bicycle, and added a new saddle. Not only did he do a great job for a very reasonable price, but he was done the same day. Absolutely outstanding service. Highly recommend. We will be rotating the rest of the bikes in our garage through Broken Spoke Bicycle. read more

Great guy and knows all the right things to do without wasting any money. Friendly and easy to work with.

I found BSB by chance on Craigslist and reached out to Jonathan for repairs on my son's hybrid mountain bike. Broken Spoke Bicycle - My 2000 Trek road bike - Bike Repair/Maintenance Near Me - Houston, Texas

Long story, short...... Mr. Jonathan was beyond wonderful and we are super happy with the results and cost! He is a budget friendly option and he single-handedly is saving bikes from the junk-yard. Bikes that are worth more in memories than in dollars NOW get a second chance with Jonathan's help! Longer version of the same story.... I was worried at first because it was unclear initially that this is a home-based business. So I didn't feel comfortable when I first went to the address provided. Also, later I learned that Jonathan is a hard working fellow and I think I arrived too early so we had some poorly timed communication (on my part). FYI if you experience this too try some patience, Jonathan is worth the wait. On my second attempt I did meet Mr. Jonathan. After our face-to-face encounter and seeing how passionate he is about bike restoration I was sold! Our situation was that we had my husbands vintage (well-used, rusted BMX cycle without any breaks) bike that we wanted to restore for our 7 year old son. I went to 3 larger bike shops in the local area and the price ($200++) made fixing this old bike unrealistic. We ALMOST gave up and were considering going to a buy a new bike. When I found Jonathan he gave me hope! Jonathan helped my budget by guiding my selections of bike parts online. I bought the items he suggested and that I wanted and sent them directly to his home. Also, during the repair he took cost effective steps to ensure the bike worked properly. We had a braking clamp apparatus that was not able to be repaired and it was too expensive to replace, so he make a functional alternative. The restoration took a while (over a month) but: I was not in a hurry, this is his 2nd job (or 3rd job if you count his families business), some parts I ordered took longer to arrive than expected, Thanksgiving happened, and he had rush orders that were time sensitive. I did text Jonathan for updates during this time and he promptly replied on the status of the bike. When the bike was done and I got the call I was beyond excited to see what he was able to do! Mr. Jonathan did not disappoint!!! He went above and beyond to help keep this BMX family heirloom bike rolling!!! Jonathan even gave me on the spot bike maintenance 101 training. I am overwhelmed by the care he took with the bike and my budget. Jonathan is the bike whisperer! Without him this old BMX bike might be in a scrap heap or hanging forever unused in the garage. But now our son will get to cruise for years to come! I hope Jonathan continues to do this work! Thank you Jonathan you are the BEST! read more

I can't say enough positive things about Johnathan. I thought I had been to good people before and they were, but Johnathan steps it up a couple levels. I'm not a guy who things I know everything by any means but I thought I knew more than I did. He makes suggestions and shows you some things you weren't aware of without insulting you. Jonathan is a mechanical wonder! I have taken two bikes to him since finding his bike repair business on Yelp recently. My "good" bike (S-Works) was skipping gears, chain was falling off, not changing gears -all this after another shopped did so-called repairs!! (Note: the bike came with SRAM components which have always been problematic!) Jonathan not only fixed those problems but also cleaned all the components and they look better than new! His customer service and mechanical knowledge are impressive. After he fixed my bike, I had a minor issue with one of the shifters. I took it back and Jonathan adjusted it -no charge! I was so impressed with his repairs to my SRAM gears that I took my "clunker" bike to him, which had not been serviced in over a decade -except for getting tires and tubes. He gave it the tender loving care it needed and now all the drivetrain parts are shining like new and the bike rides smoother than when I bought it new almost 20 years ago. (BTW, my clunker bike has Shimano Ultegra components which are far superior to SRAM!) On top of everything else great about Jonathan's bike repair business, his prices are SUPER REASONABLE. He's a one-man shop with low overhead. He does not "up sell" and he will educate you about what's happening with your bike and how you can maintain it -whether you want to hear it or not LOL. I can't remember ever walking away from bike repair shops where the bill for major work or complete tune ups was less than $100, $200 or even $300!! So glad I found this business! Next, I plan to have Jonathan switch my crummy SRAM Red components for Shimano Ultegra components. He is now on the lookout for a good used set so that I won't pay full price (thousands) for new parts. That's just one example of his off-the-charts customer service! If I could give 6 stars, I would! Heck, I'd give him a solid 10! Whatever you need fixed on your bike, GO SEE JONATHAN! read more

Jonathan did an outstanding job on my adult trike. It had a broken chain, lots of rust in numerous places, and because the company I bought it from sent me the wrong size fenders, it had never had the adorable pink fenders installed. My primary request of Jonathan was to fix the chain. He said he'd do that, give me a full bike "tune-up," try to remove the rust & see if he could find a way to install the fenders. Well, he did all of this & didn't even upcharge me on the parts he had to purchase for me; used his own rewards on them too. Apparently the trike had been put together wrong to begin with, so he took it totally apart, rebuilt it, de-rusted it, added a new chain & found a bracket that made installing the wrong-sized fenders possible. Now the bike looks adorable with its pink fenders & rides great!!!! We had also discussed my desire for a way to transport the bike so I didn't have to fold it every time. After the fact, he sent me links to the exact type of hitch & rack I'd need to be able to transport it without having to fold it! I'd say this was EXCEPTIONAL service! Great price too! Jonathan was awesome! See attached before & after pics. read more

I bought an old Raleigh Capri ten speed and needed adjustments for it (seat height, change seat, change drop bars height, etc.). I asked coworkers if they knew bicycle mechanics, but they couldn't recommend anyone. I turned to Yelp and found Broken Spoke Bicycle, which has excellent ratings. Jonathan was quick to respond to my voice message and told me I could bring my bike today. He later called me to tell me it was ready, and I was so pleasantly surprised by all the care he took to tune up and clean up my bike. He changed my seat to the one I brought him, and even added a kickstand. He also cleaned off some of the rust on the chrome parts. It looked and felt like a brand new bike to me! I'm so happy with his work that I'm bringing him my other bike too. I'm so glad I found him, and I'm going to recommend him to anyone in need of getting bike repairs or restoration done. I just bought a BeeCool Adventurer (Electric Mountain Bike) and the manufacturer recommended that I use a professional to set the bike up. He asked me to bring it in at 6pm tonight. He was finished by 8pm and only charged me $45. He spent time explaining the things that I need to watch for and how to care for the bike. I own a 12 year old Motobecane mountain bike, and I've certainly used it, as Jonathon explained upon initial examination. it needed a complete overhaul and replacement of the derailleurs, shifters, cables, chain and just about everything else was rattled loose. I was very very happy with how Jonathan kept me updated on the unavailability of parts and how he had to re-source comparable components outside of Texas, as my bike had good quality gear and it was expensive to replace (and unavailable), he even tried some in stock items to keep my overall costs down. He finally found the derailleurs in Alaska after running around Houston trying to find them on the shelves of his usual suppliers, and he had other parts shipped in from various vendors across the country. My overall experience was outstanding, the final price for all of the replacement parts and all of Jonathan's time was unbelievably reasonable, I was very surprised as I had a previous experience at another shop in Houston and their prices were significantly higher. Thank you Sir, I will be back and I highly recommend your services. read more

I have an 8-year-old Mountain bike that has never seen a tune-up in its existence. It's been used.and abused heavily to where a sane person would junk it, but since it was sentimental, I took it to a few bike shops around Houston, and they all quoted me a price to where I could've gotten a new bike. I searched craigslist and stumbled upon Johnathans ad. He replaced everything that he could and swapped out parts. He took his time, but it was well worth it because he doesn't cut corners! I had my bike riding smoother then I think when I got it, he pays attention to every detail such as your hight and he had the seat positioned to exactly where it should be for me.
