We purchased a pre assembled inexpensive bike from a low cost department store as a Christmas gift for a child we have never met and who is in Childrens' Protective Service. Previous to presenting the bike, we noticed that the bike had been improperly assembled with problems with the gears, caliphers, and brakes. We brought the bike to Planetary Cycles and spoke with Danny Savitzky, the owner. While the shop was busy, Mr. Savitzky personally examined the bike and carefully adjusted all aspects of the bike including brakes, caliphers, seat, chain, etc. and made his time and expertise his gift to this child. Planetary Cycles certainly will be our bike shop of choice in the future. It was clear that there is a great difference in quality between bicycles purchased and assembled in a professional bike shop as compared to low cost stores. read more

Walked in and was treated poorly. Men working there were condescending to say the least. Felt that because they didn't know me, then I was not part of the "club." And I am a grown man with children I would really hate to be a woman and have to deal with their obnoxious machismo. Went in with a broken bike....God forbid the bike is not expensive enough for them to even look at. So bad that they didn't even offer to sell me a new one!!!! And I was with my son...they didn't even try to sell one to him either. If you are just a casual biker, then this is not your place. They will make you pay for your ignorance in biking with snide comments. They also gain up on you verbally to make you feel as small as possible. Would have given one star, but I try to support non-chains and products made in USA. read more

My husband and I were trying to track down a very specific, yellow bike for our daughter for Christmas. After realizing it was no longer in production, we knew we'd have to hope we could find a shop that still had one in stock. We found a few out of state, but unfortunately, they were unwilling to ship to us. That's where Matt at Planetary Cycles stepped in. He not only located the bike at another shop, he worked with them to have it brought over to Planetary for us. The whole process took less than two days and amounts to some of the absolute BEST customer service we've ever received. It's evident the staff at this shop aren't just bike shop employees, but true enthusiasts of cycling. Matt definitely went out of his way to help us make our daughter's Christmas wish come true! Would definitely recommend this shop! read more

Stopped by the store last week to check it out and ask questions about a shifting issue with my bike. The staff was helpful and suggested I bring the bike in, which I did today. Adam, the owner, made some adjustments and the bike was good to go. I especially appreciate the fact that he was willing to work on the bike today since I am training for a triathlon. read more

Team is awesome! Brittany and team outfitted me with a great bike! I brought my sister the next week for her bike and have told others! Dedicated selection of bikes and gear for women and Brittany is excellent! I visited 3 major stores before finding Planetary - now I'm a raving fan! PS Jared is fantastic at fitting you to your new bike! read more

Went in today and was helped by a middle aged man who was very knowledgeable and pleasant when trying to figure out why I was getting so many flats on my rear wheel. We weren't able to figure out the reason (the metal wheel frame didn't seem to have any issues and there were no holes in the tire or the tube protector). The prices are higher than most places but it is close by and they seem to be knowledgeable and friendly. read more

visit this place, my experience is that they are a good bunch friendly. you'll see some of the last made in usa bikes here... if you care about that... read more

Great staff and great selection. Competitively priced. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. I'll be back.

Knowledgable staff...Adam is the man for all your bike needs...gave me a fair price on two new chain rings for my mt bike and had them installed on time for my Friday night memorial park ride...he's earned my repeat business read more

I was visiting Houston from Australia, and saw that Planetary had a good range of Mountain bike brands including Santa Cruz which is tougher to find in Oz. I went in to just browse, and told Adam that I wasn't in the market for buying a bike in the US. He didn't care, and spent over 30 minutes explaining the pros and cons of XC vs Trail, the differences in spec, wheel size, tube vs tubeless etc. Fantastic customer service! Even for someone who he knew wasn't going to be a customer! It's always great to find a true professional who's passionate about what they do and are happy to help anyone. Thanks Adam, much appreciated. read more

Just purchased a recumbent trike and the staff was so patient and helped me choose the right one based on my needs. I would recommend this shop and they had a big selection. Thank you Sebastian! read more

Planetary has been one of my favorite Houston shops since I moved to the city a little over four years ago. Adam and Danny have always taken terrific care of me and my bikes. They listen to what I need, and even help me find obscure items most places don't carry. Their friendly neighborhood atmosphere has kept me coming back again and again. And their new store is phenomenal! Great layout and stock. It's easy to find what you're looking for and folks are always there to help. Great job guys, keep it up! read more

My husband bought a recumbent bike from them and is now in the process of buying another recumbent bike. They have always taken time with us and explained the pros and cons concisely. Danny is wonderful and offers great customer service. He is very knowledgeable. They are 45 min. From our house but worth the ride. So many other bike stores have little knowledge about recumbent bikes. They are always diligent in keeping us within our budget. read more

Mark was super quick, totally friendly, helpful and down to earth. I am far from a professional rider and brought in my schwinn gateway for a tube replacement. Fast and affordable and none of the pomposity I've experienced at other bike shops around the city. Thanks so much for being so awesome, mark! I may puncture another tire just to have an excuse to go back! :-) read more

Planetary Cycles has great service and their staff always go the extra mile to help you with all your questions. We've bought several bikes from them and accessories and couldn't be happier with our decision. read more

We came in to look at bikes - we knew immediately we were in the right place. The whole shopping and purchase experience was absolutely perfect. Sebastian spent so much time helping us select the right bikes for our desires and budget. He also answering all of our stupid questions (we are new to biking). After that, Jared painstakingly fitted us - he definitely knows his business, a true professional. The only way to describe this experience is that they treated us like family. We will certainly be shopping here from now on! read more

I came in to have a flat tire repaired. I wanted to make sure there was not any damage to the frame of the wheel. They repaired the flat tire while I waited. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. They answered all of my questions and were very professional. I paid $14.00 dollars for a new tube and installation. I am pretty sure price will vary depending on tube and your specific extent of damage. I will be coming back for future bicycle repairs. read more

Everyone is very knowledgable but it's hard to get individual attention. There is no commission, the incentive to stay with one customer is not there. The store is very well kept and the layout is easy on the eyes. One major drawback is the lack of guarantee of the bikes you purchase. They offer no return or exchange policy, excerpt a verbal agreement they offer maintenance and tuneups. I had to take my brand new bike in cause the front wheel got bent and I got questioned on the validity of the claim. I guess it's expected when you deal with single store brands with lack of cash flow to guarantee customer satisfaction. read more

I have purchased a few bikes from these guys over the years and have always had great experiences at Planetary. The crew there is knowledgeable and laid back which makes for a nice shopping experience. They cater to everyone from the Tour de France 'wannabees' to the casual cyclist and their pricing is fair. The best part of the shop, however is the mechanics. They explain everything well and offer reasonable options. Best of all, they are quick! I took my bike in recently for a minor repair and Casey had me on my way in no time even though they were clearly extremely busy. read more

Fool me once, fool me twice, not a third time. (I do not like to write bad reviews, but will be candid with my experiences) Two experiences. One in their shop; one via email. Both very disappointing and very similar. The need, a very expensive tandem trike for a special needs son and I to ride. The first time I was interested in the very expensive Greenspeed. They failed to follow-up. Decided to track down a rare ICE tandem and asked them for an estimate to retrofit some items and replace others in addition to assembly and tune-up. On the initial call Matt gave me the cost for assembly and tune-up. He also requested details on the tandem and promised to contact ICE and provide an estimate in the next few days. I provided the detail on Friday following our call. Five days later, Wednesday, no email response, thus, I followed-up as I did not want to lose the opportunity to get the rare ICE tandem. Sadly, no response. 48 hours later, on Friday (a week), I wrote again letting them know that I would appreciate their following up as I needed to make a decision. Good news. They responded. Bad news, Matt's email validated he did not do anything. It reiterated the assembly and tune-up cost. Said they could replace the components and some things they could not estimate until the tandem was in the shop. Why did the follow-up lack options and prices for components? It was supposed to be an estimate to get us further along in the process. The results: we were no further along than where we started a week before. I had wasted my time and the seller's time. Clearly, Matt did not care. At this point, I will work with a shop that does. read more

Great showroom, great staff interactions, and one very happy customer here. Brittany, Adam, Danny, and Jerrod (sp?) and others have all had a lot of patience with me and my questions and multiple visits that culminated in the sale of my perfect version of a BADASS bike for a fair price. They helped me figure out what my needs were, without pressure but with a lot of conversation. They have never tried to steer me into a sale of convenience for themselves, but rather have been an invaluable resource for me as I attempted to navigate a sea of options and equipment. I freaking love my new bike, the fit, and the other equipment purchased there over the last few months, and the next time I need something I will be back. If you like to ride or are shopping for someone who does, give Planetary a shot at your trust and your business. I'm betting you won't regret it. read more

I was a customer when they moved into what then was the South Braeswood location on Stella Link in the mid-1990s purchasing many bikes as my kids grew up in the Braes Heights neighborhood including a higher end mountain bike for myself. My kids grew up and moved out and I began traveling for work and the bikes began to sit unused. With the stay at home orders for Coronavirus I pulled all three out and cleaned them up to ride for exercise in place of the closed gym that had to close. But I had to take one in for some substantial adjustments to their newest re-location on the West Loop North near Lowe's. It had been 10 plus years. Adam took my bike and I was so glad to see a familiar face and learn he still co-owned the business. He took great pains to repair my son's old 2004 Cannondale F300 that my wife now rides. I have two bike shops that are closer to me since Adam moved to the Loop but I remain sold on Planetary Cycles for the personal attention they gave me as Adam welcomed me back. They are still terrific and the whole crew is friendly and caring! This team is great at what they do! Thanks read more

I'm so Bummed, I had such high hopes for Planetary Cycles since I live in Bellaire and they are within riding distance to me. My first visit was nice, all I needed was a new neck for my new cruiser so I can put apes on it, they didn't have what I needed and they referred me to another shop on Bellaire, inside the loop. I thought that was cool, so when I wanted new pedals I went back to Planetary, and bought some $19 pedals. Well, the right pedal had an annoying "Click" on every rotation, at the same position of the stroke. The Plastic POS that came with the bike doesn't have a click. So I took it back with a receipt just wanting to swap out the right pedal. They guy, told me "that's not a high quality pedal, that's what you get" After asking him "Really?" a lot of times, he then showed me another on the shelf doing the same thing. Finally said he could give my $$ back if I had the other pedal. Surprise to him! I had it in the car, just in case. When I brought it in, I showed him I had pulled the reflectors off, but still had them, they just push in! He changed his mind and said he can't take them back with the reflectors removed. End of story, I left really bummed. This store doesn't care about small sales or customer service. Maybe if I had spent $3K on a bike they would have been better. I wish I had first read another Review saying "They offer no return or exchange policy, excerpt a verbal agreement they offer maintenance and tuneups." There is a reason I try to buy local when I can get it online cheaper, its to support local small businesses and to make returns or exchanges easier. There are bike stores all over the area, next time I'll go to one of them or shop online where I can get better customer service. Update: I went to YouTube and found a video describing how to disassemble the pedals and how to lubricate the bearings. OK, so these pedals are cheap and were assembled in China, by the lowest bidder and with no grease. After an hour of messing with new $19 pedals, they now ride better than new. If only the staff had told me they needed lubrication I'd a been OK. Now I think the staff really doesn't know much about their products, at least the low priced products. read more

They didn't quite have what I was looking for so they referred me to some niche shops in town. AMAZING! Good guys here.

The first time I went to Planetary Cycles, I knew nothing at all about bicycles. Sebastian helped me find the right bike and all the necessary gear. He was extremely helpful and patient with all of my questions. His enthusiasm for cycling is contagious, and the experience I had at Planetary Cycles is unparalleled. Everyone there is helpful, knowledgable and friendly. I'd never take my bike anywhere else for service, or buy a bike from anyone else in the future. Can't recommend Planetary Cycles strongly enough! read more

I was in Houston from Louisiana for a visit and used the time to order my Catrike Dumont on May 10 through Planetary Cycles. Britney place my order. She definitely great to work with. Planetary worked quickly to assemble my trike to meet my schedule date of leaving Houston. Appreciate everyone's effort and friendliness, especially Brittney. read more

I was drawn to the store by their web site as they showed having a massive Cannondale sale only to get to the store and find all were sold out, the gentlemen apologized and said they would correct the web site, several days later they are still on the site. Next I explained I was very new at biking and had no clue what was best for me, the sales guy went into an engineering rant that was miles over my head and I could barely get a word in. It was overwhelming so I left quickly, ended up at Bike Barn and found someone incredibly helpful, bought the bike and left feeling great. Probably a good store for a pro, but if your new and need help find another store. read more

This place is great. I came in today thinking I needed a new wheel. But the staff was honest and, rather than selling me a new one unnecessarily, told me it could be repaired. And then they repaired it for free. Great customer service. I will be back. read more

I bought a Giant Roam3 bike there. From day one it was making a scratching or metal to metal grinding noise on the front gear when I set the gears on 2-6, 2-7, or 2-8. I twice over a period of several weeks mentioned it to one of their shop folks ( name withheld to protect the guilty). Twice I was dismissed with comments like "it's an entry level bike, they don't make the gears as in higher price bikes or maybe the gear is not entirely flat and if we try to flatten it it could be worse. This young man, who could have been my grandson probably thought that this old guy (68) doesn't know anything so I'll just send him off. Well he did send me off, but I contacted Giant in California. They were not very happy about it, they were even surprised that this guy hadn't even put the bike on the rack or that he didn't ride it to duplicate the problem. They suggested I take it to another bike store not far from there - Bicycle World of West U - and explain the problem to them. I did. They guys at Bicycle World put it on the rack and went out on the street and rode it. They put it back on the rack and made an adjustment that took no more than three minutes...problem solved, and they didn't charge me anything. I met Adam years ago at their other location and bought a recumbent from him. He is a nice guy, but if this is the quality of the people he hires I am not interested in going there any more. There is nothing more insulting to a mature adult than to be dismissed by some know-it-all young person who thinks he's so smart and thinks he can rub the wool over the old guy's eyes. Bicycle World of West U won a client and Planetary lost one. read more

This was the last stop for my road bike search and I wish I would have started here. I walked in and was greeted by several employees willing to help me. The staff was nice and patient with me as I wanted to test ride several bikes they had in stock. I was not pushed to buy the entire time I was there. The bike with the color scheme I liked most was not on display in my size and the crew assembled one for me within an hour. They were busy but made time for me since I live out in Katy. My second trip was spent getting sized and a slight check up on all the components. I was once again pleased with the service and I was able to pick up some pointers on how to improve my riding skills. I will be back to do business with them again. read more

This is still a great store. They've done a ton of stuff for me and my bikes.

Not a fan. Why? The owner has a bad attitude. If I ask to buy a bike and you don't have the one I want in the store and you tell me you can get it for me... Then get it! I'm not going to beg you to buy a bike from you. I regret buying anything from you in the past and wouldn't come back to you if you were the last bike shop in Houston. read more

My wife and I went here this weekend to buy a mountain bike for our daughter. Sam M. was super-helpful guiding us through the options and accessories even down to the rear-mount basket (which was very important to our daughter who likes to take the bike to the store for groceries). In addition to all this help, Sam gave us great advice on how to install and mount a rooftop bicycle rack for my 2000 Toyota Camry. Bear in mind this was a rack that I had purchased at a different store and that my wife and I had been procrastinating on assembling for months since it seemed so daunting to get right. Sam guided me through it and it is now on top of our car and carrying bikes. This kind of service is way beyond the call of duty. Can't recommend these guys highly enough! read more

Really gave this place a chance... THREE to be exact... its on the braes bayou which was really convenient for me since it was along my commute. One of the times i was trying to purchase a tubular tire and the whole store started ripping on me about it. LITERALLY took me like 5 minutes to find out the price (which was rediculous for the tire it was) of the tire after they all voiced there opinion upon the matter... Would go into the other stories, but just all end in the same manner... regret for going to this store... now i go to west end or Boone where the staff has more answers than opinions... read more
