Absolutely fantastic evening. Hidden gem in Old Town Spring . Searching for outdoor seating near me and this place pops up. Don't expect a full course meal. It's strictly Tapas aka appetizers and wine. We experienced some of best wine at a restaurant in years. The tapas delicious. Grayson was our server and was very knowledgeable of the wine being offered and the menu. They are not in a hurry to get you in and out. My first time at Plane & Level was last night. We hosted a small group and let me tell you, the service was outstanding! We loved the airplane theme! We started with wine and passed tapas on the patio and then were seated for more tapas in the restaurant. Their private room is so welcoming and cozy, but our group was very small so it was a better experience in the restaurant. Thomas, the owner surely knows what he is doing!! Now, let me tell you how fantastic the food and wine were - simply amazing. My wife and I recently tried this place for the first time. The restaurant is small but gives off a cool, classy vibe. We aren't tapas experts, but our waitress gave great recommendations like the empanadas, duck, and more. All were delicious. The location in Old Town Spring is also fun. Some of the most outstanding food I've had in Houston. I had the duck and Spanish octopus which were both outstanding. Who I went with got the braised ribs, salad and the meatballs. Each dish was cooked to perfection and the flavours were subtle but noticeable and impactful upon the palate. If you have a anniversary or high end date this is the best kind of place you could go to. The atmosphere is enhanced by the Spanish guitar in the background, and the aesthetic of the riveted sheet metal like a airplane. While the dining experience (service) was just ok and the actually ambiance quite nice, the overall value is certainly not up to par. For example, wine is the centerpiece of the Spanish Tapas dining experience, the quality of the wine is not good, unless of course your are willing to spend $250+ per bottle. The mark-up per bottle is anywhere from 500 to 700%. Typically, one would expect to pay around 400 % mark-up at other comparable dining locations. So, if you are looking for an average quality wine ($20-30 per bottle at Total wine), expect to pay $100-$200 per bottle at Plane & Level. Their base flight wines are not good, simply put. We priced them at less than $10 per bottle on Total wine's app. Also, food proportions are not commensurate with the price of the food. We ordered both a seafood and a meat paella at $70 each, which both were fairly well flavored, but the ratio of rice to meat and seafood was quite high. Overall, for $70, it was not worth the price at all. We also ordered after-dinner desserts. The waitress told us that the dessert portions could serve two or three people. This was absolutely not the case. For $15 per dessert, one would expect much more than the portions that were provided to us. I will say, however, that each of the desserts were very good, there just wasn't enough per serving. In the end, we dropped over $650 per 6 people and left the restaurant hungry. read more

Best date night my husband and I have had in a while! Totally worth going. The food is incredible and the experience was amazing.

Terrible is an understatement. This was our 2nd time dining at P&L, and it was the worst waste of money. We called ahead to request a table inside, but when we arrived we literally had to argue with the hostess (the same one we spoke to on the phone) to give us the table we wanted and asked for. We finally got seated and then ordered some wine. Every table had a nice decanter, but our waitress decided just to leave the bottle on the table. Fine. We ordered the pan de cristal with boquerones, which are 2 pieces of baguette with some crushed tomato and an anchovy on top, for $9. This was good but overpriced. We got the patatas bravas and had to send them back. Last time they were okay, but they were covered in a greasy cream sauce. The waitress seemed to not like the fact that we wanted to send them back. We instead got the skewers (don't remember the name), which were a joke. Tasted terrible and way overpriced, but okay. Then, came out the piquillo peppers. These were the worst. They were 2 peppers with some greasy cheese inside, that was all over the plate, like it was microwaved. The peppers were not fresh and the presentation was terrible. Then, comes the worst part of the food. We got the paella. The $70 paella. I don't mind paying that one bit if it's good. We are gourmet foodies and travel the world and have had some great paella (which I cook as well at home), but this dish was disgusting. This was SOAKING in oil and the shrimp tasted old (it had a sort-of "film" on it). We ate about 2 bites and that was it. The waitress disappeared during our dinner, so my husband was our wine pourer and water filler. She didn't ask if there was a problem with our paella since it was all there, but I didn't expect her to. Instead, she brought the check and we were out of there. This service and overall experience ruined our dinner. This is like getting your eyes poked out for terrible food and service. I'll happily drive to MAD or BCN, or one of the better Spanish restaurants in Houston that can offer a better overall experience for the same price. read more

I went with my wife and son. The place looks nice and the service is great. The food... not so much. We ordered the jamon ibérico and the person that cut it did not know how. You'd think a place that charges $30/oz would have someone that knows how to cut it and present it. Most pieces had the exterior rotten part which made it taste nasty. The croquetas de bacalao and sashimi DO NOT MIX. The piquillo with crabmeat was very bland and felt like they were reheated. Three appetizers with water came out to $80 and we didn't even get to enjoy it. The only reason this isn't a 1-star review is because the servers were very nice and courteous. read more

I have tried this place three times now because it is small, intimate and different. Each time I've visited I've overlooked the fact that the food is very mediocre; with extremely small servings for a lot of money. The wine is pretty good...but a little pricey. On my most recent visit, which was in the evening , the pendent Lights in the tiny space were so bright that it was glaring off of the metal covered walls. I asked the waitress to turn off the light above our heads because they were plenty of really bright lights in the tiny venue and it was so bright that when I looked at my friend all I could see was a bright glare from the metal wall, which was like looking into the sun. She was nice and turned it off and I Thanked her and told her that was much better. Then a man from behind the bar abruptly walked over and said all the lights have to match and turned on the bright light over our head. I told him that the glare from the light was so bright that it is blinding me and I could not look in the direction of my date. He looked at me with a smug attitude and said all of lights have to match so it has to stay on. We spent a lot of money at this place so it looks like having cheap dimmers wouldn't kill them since it's supposed to be an intimate venue. So needless to say I would not recommend this place for any kind of romantic gathering unless you want to be blinded by the light and treated poorly by what appeared to be the manager. I've given this place a few tries because I enjoy supporting local business but I dont plan on returning. read more
