My husband, son, and I went to Plane and Level last night for dinner. It was awesome! The tapas really did remind me of our trip to Spain. The oysters were delicious, the egg and caviar was a delight, the Gambas Al Pil-Pil was just the right amount of spicy, the Albindingos and Patatas Bravas were soooo delicious, the short rib with truffles was fantastic, the octopus was the star of the meal for sure. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. The wine selection is fabulous. My only small complaint and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the charcuterie board left things to be desired. Such a small amount of jelly, and a mustard or different jelly would've been much better than the celery relish. Plus there is such little meat to go with the bread and cheese. Also it was HOT in there. I was sweating by the end of the meal. It was so hot we skipped dessert. read more

Plane and Level is a hidden gem! Having lived in Spain for some time, this establishment hits very close to home. My favorite and simple dish: patatas bravas ... authentically Spanish! A great combo: albondigas & patatas bravas... so great we ordered it twice. We also tried a dozen oysters (half raw and half grilled), prime rib, beef empanadas, 2 glasses of rioja then a bottle of Galician red. The wine list isn't complicated or overwhelming. Very simple and straight forward with flavors for all palates. It's a must! It is definitely high-end but worth every penny. You won't br disappointed. We dined on a weeknight so we were seated in their more intimate dining room. We sat at the bar which was perfect for my husband and I. It's a great space but for small groups. We dined on delicious their bread, which is actually made in Spain and sent over! That was followed up by grilled octopus, which was very tender and had amazing flavor. Alongside the octopus, we enjoyed fresh cut jamon. A real delicacy and hi-light of the meal. But I think my favorite this time was the tuna crudo, the flavors and herbs not to mention made this good, but what made it exceptional was the texture. It literally melts in your mouth. It's a feeling of satisfaction coupled with ecstasy consumes you as it fills your mouth. After these courses, we enjoyed the beef empanadas, tremendous in taste with a satisfying crunch from the pastry that it's wrapped in. And finally seared foie gras, which is one the most delicious tasting experiences you can ever have in a lifetime! Jenna and Thomas were excellent hosts. This plane ride was one of the best ones ever. Made my November! I stumbled upon this vintage aircraft themed tapas & wine bar while out exploring Old Town Spring. The flight attendants provided superb service. This was the best "airline food" I've ever tasted and paired well with the recommended wine. Upon arriving we were inspired by the decor. I felt like I was in a 1960's Airstream Camper but it really was a 1960's airplane with revits in aluminum. The oysters were firm with a salty sea flair and very delicious. Next we had the Iberico Ham, very good! We ordered a wine pairing from Spain. Specially made for the restaurant only 600 bottles available, a spicy light red that was very good. Then we ordered the roasted duck breast and the pork paella. Both dishes were excellent but we liked the duck the most. It was perfect. We finished with a handcrafted desert liqueur and flan made so perfectly. Almost all the tapa plates we ordered were incredibly delicious. They are small portions of food at high prices just so you are prepared, but the food was amazing! The wine I had was so good! Randomly found ourselves on a Saturday morning in the old town spring area and stumbled upon this place for lunch. Hands-down the best place I've been in a while. The food was divine. We ordered around 5 dishes and all were incredible with special shout-out to the crab stuffed piquillo peppers and duck breast. Yum!! First, I hope you are lucky enough to have Stefany as your server. She was my guide during this culinary journey and I had a blast!! I started off with the Jamon Iberico ham from Spain. Drinks coast are reasonable. My only complaints are the work's uniform. Reminds me of a 50s flight attendant uniform; which makes the place feel out dated. Texas heat and the uniforms; I can't imagine Plane & Level being good work place if they are not considering the employees work environment. Bar tender was amazing. Such a cute date night spot. The location is different. It's small and can easily be missed. Walking in is transformative. Server (Amanda) and food quality were both better than expected, and most dishes were appropriately priced--maybe not so much the ham @ $30/oz; but, everything else was about right... Portions were diminutive even by tapas standards! Don't plan on sharing anything here besides the wine, and do order at least 3 portions per person of the crabmeat stuffed peppers! Really adorable place in old town spring. The wine was tasty and the tapas delicious. Staff was wonderful. I went with a friend and spent over $150 for two flights (3 sample wines) and four tapas. The portions were extra tiny so we were supper hungry and had to get dinner after we left. Only reason for 4 stars. I think that if we wouldn't have been hungry we probably would have stayed longer to enjoy more wine. Recommendation to future customers, eat dinner before you go there or plan to eat dinner after. We will return but be better prepared. read more

I took my Chilean wife to this cozy restaurant in Old Town Spring. We were dazzled with the wine selection (as this location sports renown sommelier Thomas Perez.) The clams and sausage were spectacular and the 6 month-aged Chimichurri might have been the best we've tried. We saved room for the wagyu beef empanadas and they did not disappoint. If you can slip some of the Catalan "glass bread" in your pocket you'll make away with a small slice of heaven. I selected the scallops and they were fantastic. A unique combination with fennel and apple puree. One tip. Allow the staff to pair your wine as this is a can't miss culinary treat. Wow what can I say since there is so much to say about this place. It is a truly hidden gem. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place and were able to snag a seat. Stephanie and Alia were incredibly hospitable. Food was very authentic and the wine selection as well. Turns out the owner is a sommelier who studied in Spain and also has a culinary degree. Very eclectic feel yet you feel like you are a part of the neighborhood. This may just be our new favorite spot. read more

Really interesting concept which at its heart is an authentic tapas bar. The theme is aviation with the servers wearing a flying uniform of sorts and the bar being made from a wooden aircraft wing. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Most of the wines were Spanish and excellent, which was good because they only make wine based cocktails. We had the shrimp, beef and vegetable empanadas, chorizo, ham and cheeses that were excellent. They had a seafood special which was interesting and could have disappointed, there were three different rices in the dish from the well cooked to the undercooked which was deliberate and apparently authentic - the effect was strange and I was tempted to deduct a star for this but the seafood was excellent and we have to be open to new tastes and textures in our food. Saw by chance after our favorite wine place closed early. It's somewhat hidden amonst the bushes/trees. What caught my attention was the German Glühwein. Their seating is visible from the sidewalk and it looked like a cute and unique little place. We decided to try out their sausage platter and of course their empanadas, our favortie being the empanadas. Their German Glühwein was THE BEST THING EVER. We only ordered two glasses because this was supposed to be a quick stop but I would give it a try if they still offer it. Not sure how long this has been open but their menu for both food and wine is limited but they have great choices. Also didn't get to look at their hours, we went by again on a Sunday and it looked closed but wasn't sure since it's kind of dark in that area. I was very excited to try this place and was let down. The food was not bad but left a lot to be desired. The restaurant is very small, but felt very unique and high end. The ham tasted great but very choppy with the slices and cuts being very uneven. Much choppier than I was used to ibérico jamón in the past. The patatas bravas were good. The shrimp was great as well. The chorizo croquettes were a bit mushy on the inside. The scallop dish was cooked perfectly and was delicious, but they only provided 1 scallop!!! I was so shocked that they would charge $20 for a single scallop. The restaurant is very cute and quaint, but I was not as wowed by the food as I had expected. With having a huge love of Spanish food and trying different restaurants around the Houston area, not sure I would come back here for a Spanish food craving. read more

A friend had visited Plane & Level with her husband and raved about it. We had a small work dinner to plan that was to be on the north side of Houston, so this was our first thought. We booked it site-unseen, and I cannot rave enough about this absolute gem in Old Town Spring. Not only is the atmosphere so inviting and intimate, but the staff is top notch! The service was incredible - I can't remember the last time I experienced such hospitality at a restaurant. As if the service and amazing staff weren't enough...THE FOOD! Oh my goodness. A gem. An incredible display of traditional Spanish tapas gastronomy. Seated at the wing (the bar top is a real airplane wing), one feels compelled to prepare for adventure. The amuse-bouche, a house whipped potato and anchovy foam, set the tone for the night and didn't falter once. A crispy cochinillo special was offered on Friday night - before Paella Saturday. Dinner was finished with the duck & seared foie-gras and I can't help but feel as though it should be a mandatory menu item required for dining here. Pairings were phenomenal as Thomas himself walked us through his menu. Was even offered a 20+ year old Bordeaux that elegantly closed the night. I love the food...the owner obviously knows how Spanish food should be prepared and is an expert on Spanish wines. (Something he seems to hold against people who aren't. Your actually competing with US, Italian, French and Australian wines to name a few so you could be a bit more reasonable.) PROS...the dishes are delicious. Every one of them. CONS..the portions are small...even cheap preparations like croquettas are tiny and it forces you to order more food...so it ends up pretty expensive. Unfortunately I have not found a moderately priced tapas restaurants and this one is about as expensive as MAD or BCN taste and tradition. Most Tapas are not that expensive...croquetas mostly flour...so you can afford to give you patrons a good meatball size croqueta...these are mini-croquetas..tiny. The wild game paella was delicious but you kept on wanting more and on the way home my daughter said it was a rip off. I can't say that I really like the food but it's so far away and so expensive that we probably will just have to wait for an affordable tapas restaurant to open. The food was good, what little of it you get, and the service was better than average. The menu prices looked reasonable until we realized these weren't even appetizer portions and there were no entrées. Should have left at that point but we didn't because the combinations looked interesting and as I said, turned out to be quite good. The problem was we would have needed to order everything on the menu to have a full meal. Never have I paid so much for so little food. I literally come home and fixed dinner. You better like wine as that's all they have except water. Again, very expensive. We'll definitely not be going back. read more

Came across this hidden gem while wandering in old town Spring. My best friend and Were seated right away and a wine rep sent over a free bottle of wine. All of the food was fabulous! We had the cheeseboard, The croquettes were supposed to be pork but they were crab either way they were fantastic, and we also had the veggie empanadas! Our waitress was super sweet! Very cute ambiance, plane themed decor, design, and servers outfit. Had the Spanish ham, empanadas, stuffed pepper, paella, croquettes. All are finely presented and good. All the tapas sound delicious and would like to try other items. Even though not required, it will be recommended to make reservations as serving are is small and i saw many people had to wait or come back later. Service is attentive, cute ambiance, wine selection are beautiful (even though I do not drink). Plus i had great company to go with, so I enjoyed there and would go back again.
