Doug's Day Diner. Triple D. Don't let the fact that this diner also has the same initials as Guy Fieri's show turn you away from trying it out. Honestly, it's probably only my snarky New Yorker ass that would notice something like that and then start a Yelp review with it. What kind of Yelp elite am I? Evidently, the worst one.
But anyway.
Doug's Day Diner is a cute diner that is located a little ways away from Denver, but if you have the time for a scenic drive and aren't extremely hangry because you're hungover, then this is the place for you. Sure, it would have been easy to just stroll down the street and sit down at one of the many brunch places that Denver has to offer, but where's the sense of adventure in doing that? My friend and I ended up coming here around noon or so for brunch and boy, was the drive worth it. Aside from the fact that you get to see the beautiful Flatiron mountains on the way to this place, the service and the food are exactly what makes the entire journey amazing. The folks who work here are super friendly and courteous (which, I know, is how ALL folks who work in the food industry are supposed to be like, but there's nothing wrong with pointing it out when they go above and beyond) and it really seems like they take the time to get to know their regular patrons, which really contributes to the relaxed, family-style vibe of the place.
After my friend and I were seated, we started off with coffee and orange juice. I have to say, although I've only been in the Denver metro area for a short period of time, the coffee here is one of the best I've had. I know that Denver is known for coffee and craft brews, but trust me when I say, this coffee was the bomb.com. It was well made and drinking it just warmed my cold, frigid New York heart. I might even have feelings, now. Also, they give free refills, which always makes things better. After taking some time to glance over the menu, my friend and I ended up ordering the chorizo "Papas" and the cowboy "Whimpies." Don't be fooled by the fact that the "Whimpies" is half of the servings of a "Papas," it'll definitely fill you up for the majority of the day. It only took a couple of minutes for our food to come out, and when it did, it was everything that I could have wanted. I wish I had the ability to explain how delicious the food here was, but I don't think that I would be able to do it justice. The hash browns, the gravy, and the chili sauces are all so delicious, and the best part is, if you're an indecisive human like I am, you can ask for all three!
I definitely will be coming back here, if I'm not too hungover to drive all the way out here. I guess the only downside is that they close at 2PM but, like, whatever, right? Responsible adults can wake up and get to places to eat breakfast or brunch or lunch before 2PM like normal human beings, right?
Honestly, there isn't really much to say about this place other than it's goddamn delicious and y'all should really check it out. read more
