The whole place reeks of patchouli as soon as you walk in. Didn't seem like the type of place that Glutards, and other fringe 'societals' would frequent - in fact, the clientele seemed rather normal. My guess is that I either must have missed a hippie who'd bathed in it and just left before I arrived. Or it was one of the staff, either way - it was strong enough to set off the beginnings of a migraine. When I inquired about the scent my waitress seemed oblivious to what I was referring, and deductive reasoning would then suggest that she's accustomed to the scent, and that it would almost certainly be a co-worker (it wasn't her, as she was standing right beside me). To Doug: There's many reasons why, in food service, staffers aren't allowed to wear perfumes/colognes. Aside from the fact that you're, by default, in the business of hospitality and people's personal tastes/preferences vary so wildly that it is bound to offend someone. They way people taste their food is due, in part, to scent (which is way everything is bland when you get a cold), so...overpowering odors have NO place in a food service setting. Came in they asked my kids and I leave our Starbucks coffee in our car. Understandable. Diner was practically empty. I wanted to sit by the window to get some sun. I was seated then moved and told I couldn't sit there because it's reserved for larger tables... I'll repeat the diners practically empty. No large parties came in and I was forced to sit somewhere I didn't want to sit. Made it difficult to enjoy my food. Food is served in large portions but service could improve. Never had our drink order taken but food was ordered. Had to ask for water after 30 minutes of being seated. She said, "Oh I just thought you only wanted to order food." Really??? What an unexpected find! Out in suburbia tucked between rock creek and flat irons mall. I didn't have high hopes for this place but ended up loving it! First of all they have the thickest bacon I have ever had at a restaurant. It is wonderful! Most breakfasts come with three slices which is almost impossible to finish, and I love me some bacon! Hash browns are made from scratch and are delish! Come here if you love basic diner breakfasts like I do. Minus one star because my side of fruit was made of canned mandarin oranges. Hanging out in what feels like the Orange County of Denver, there are pretty limited local options. Checked this place out based on the reviews and a solid breakfast spot but be warned, the portions are huge. I got one of the Papa plates which essentially a ton of stuff on top of hashbrowns. The hashbrowns are awesome, the selection of toppings are awesome (carne asada was different than I expected but very good) but the gravy is just ok. Service is solid and the space is strip all-esque. Definitely recommend if you're craving some good hashbrowns and a massive breakfast. My boyfriend and I have been to Doug's day diner on several occasions. It has a casual atmosphere and the food has been consistently delicious. His favorite thing to order is the papas with carne asada, smothered in half green chili and half gravy. It's so good, I've ordered it a few times myself. The only drawback is that they don't have an an à la carte menu. There are several times I've visited and wanted to just order a biscuit and gravy. Been going here over a year now and love it. I don't know what they do to their hash browns but they are addictive....something about the wide cut shreds.... I bring the family here for brunch on the weekends. Don't judge a book by its cover. This restaurant is hidden in the middle of a strip mall and looks fairly small from the outside. Plenty of seating on the inside. Had the Tasty omelette that included guac, a first for me. The portions were giant and everyone in my party was very pleased. We stopped in for breakfast on a Monday, no wait which I believe is different then the weekends. The lady with short gray hair was very nice and helpful and made some great suggestions. I had the Taos Papa's which was great(served on a large plate). The homemade browns where spot on, so was the the homemade green chill that covered it and the two perfectly cooked eggs over easy on top. No need to add anything to this dish. It was my first time going here, and last. I ordered the "hillbilly" the food to me was absolutely awful. The so called hash browns had no taste or season to them, I felt like I was eating paper. The sausage patties, I don't know what's going on with those or where they come from, but they did not taste like sausage, at all. The food was fantastic, especially the hash browns!!!!! Everything was cooked perfectly. I had the Sweet Toast with 2 eggs, and sausage and a side of hash browns. My husband had the Papas and He loved it. The portions are very generous and the price is fair for the amount of food you get. They have an open kitchen so you can watch them cook (and keep them honest while doing it...lol).
