    Shellac gel manicure in G88
    Cindy P.

This place is overall a very good nail salon. They do autoclave their utensils and use personal plastic bags for pedicures! Service: Overall my technician was great (she sat at hollys desk but I wasn't too sure if she herself is holly since she didn't introduce me). She was nice and would talk to me about anything. She is very detailed and would remove all dead skin present for my pedicure and manicure. The only thing I didn't like was that she cleaned the dead skin under my skin without telling me and after looking at the other reviews, that's why I was charged $5 extra. My gel manicure was even and she would always ask for my opinion on the shape of my nails. Selection: The color selection is definitely huge and there are walls as well as samples of many different colors. They had a lot of chairs and desks for customers to come in. Technicians: Overall they were very funny to each other and had a very friendly vibe. I understand Vietnamese and many people always worry about them talking about other people, they don't. Even with other customers, they mostly just talk about making sure to greet the customers and answer each other's question when it comes to nail service Pricing: My gel manicure was $19 due to the yelp deal but it's usually $30 which is standard. My pedicure was $26. Both came with massages which was super nice. Overall I like this nail salon, I heard other salons were not that great compared to this one. Even my friend who goes to Celfie says this salon is nicer and friendlier. The only con I had was the extra charge when I was never asked to proceed with the callous remover and that it cost $5 extra. Other than that I would've gave them 5 stars!! Also if you pay cash, I believe they will lower the prices on some services, I would call to clarify.

So excited that my nails are on point for SXSW 2018. Thank you Jenna from PJ Nails and Spa. She fixed two of my nails that had been done incorrectly from another salon. Jenna is amazing, you should make an appointment if you want her to do them.

So many scratches in the nails, more hang nails, and blood.

Great pedicure. Worst manicure of my life. Still have SNS on my nails. Multiple cuticles left bleeding. Did not clean beneath the nail after weeks of SNS wear and tear. When I told her she left lots of glittery SNS on she told me it was my nail! I asked them not to file and to only soak (a recommendation lots of friends gave me - this was my first SNS experience) and she filed them anyways. Nails left jagged and uneven. Then she barely slapped a top coat on and said I should never do SNS again. When it came time to pay I was practically crying. She soaked my fingernails for another ten minutes- no top coat this time "to let them breathe" Very disappointed.

I bought a groupon for the gel manicure. I called before I went since the voucher said I needed to make an appointment. When I got there they were a little backed up so I ended up having to wait about 20 minutes. Laila, the nail technician was very apologetic for making me wait. She immediately offered me something to drink, which is really nice to have at a nail salon imo. I started with a pedicure. It was a fairly simple pedicure, but it did include a massage and hot towel wrap. This took about 30 minutes and costs $26. Then I moved to the hand station and got the gel manicure. They have a policy of fixing your shellac nails within 10 days if anything were to happen to them! Normally it costs $30 for a gel manicure. After using my groupon, I was given a voucher for $21 on my next gel manicure :) Overall they have a decent selection of colors (for both regular and shellac), they have great service, and maintain their salon well. Despite having to wait a bit, Laila did a great job on my nails. I have been struggling to find a nail salon in Austin, and I will most definitely be returning!

Opted for a natural shellac shade.

This was a perfect nail experience: quiet, soothing spa music, no wait with my appointment. Laila was great to talk to, and also have a great hand and neck massage! I definitely gave her a nice tip for that. It had a nice spa like atmosphere, I will definitely go back! Update:: sadly I had to change my review from 5 stars to 3 stars. Just 8 days later since writing this review my nail Polish is peeling off from the bottom up. Almost all of my nails are peeling so I will probably have to get them redone in a few days. The whole point of shellac is for it to last for weeks and weeks. :(

I've tried several places around town -- "fancy/boutique" salons, "Yelpers know best" salons, and "I'm on a budget and this is close by" salons -- and PJ is *my place*. They don't abuse my nails (which is my biggest problem with other experiences -- ripping, not clipping, my cuticles, filing like they've got a score to settle with my nails, etc.), the staff is friendly, they always open the tools from a sanitized pack, and the prices are very reasonable. I get gel on my natural nails with designs -- I highly recommend David and Kristy!! I bring in a pic or two of the style I'm looking for and let them go to town. They always send me off looking fab and getting compliments up until my next appointment. I call ahead to make sure David or Kristy have a spot for me and I've never had a problem getting in when I would like to. TL;DR I wouldn't be a regular nail doer if I hadn't found PJ.

Usually I past this nail salon many times but hesitant to go in for the reason seems vacant but I know why the door in the front is sort hidden and located in a small shopping mall on a very busy crazy street. The nail tech was pleasant and sweet but I am used to two nail techs working on me at the same time. The place seems ok, but needs a little TLC. I prefer a very well managed Nail Salon where you don't want to catch anything like toe fungus rot or anything unhealthy or scary. BTW it does take a almost 3 hours for my nails at PJ Nails here which is'a long time for me. Next time if I am in the area I will peek in to see if any changes before I procede with my refills on my nails and deluxe pedicures. One pro is they serve wine at this location which a nice gesture. Will I return not right away have too MANY nail salons in my neck of the woods that are 5 star ratings. So I be watching if the stroke of luck happens.

I am not one to review places but I did not have the best experience here. It seemed very turn table, the nail technician was in a bit of a rush and using a nail buffer file cut me five times which was actually painful. I went in to have my nails done for an event so it didn't look that great having cuts/blood on my nails. Then immediately when she finished she wanted to help me gather my things which is nice but my nails were clearly not dry so I asked if I could use the fan for a little bit. Overall not happy with my experience but hopefully this is not a typical thing for them.

Tia is amazing! SNS full set with gel color on top.

Had a great experience this evening at PJ. I walked into the salon around 6:15 without an appointment. Even though they close at 7 and the technicians were already working on other clients, they were more than happy to help me. Even after I told them I wanted a full acrylic manicure! I was offered a beverage and barely had to wait. Tia did my nails and although I came in wanting acrylic, she told me about the SNS system they offer and I ended up doing that. I'm so glad I did! It looks similar to acrylic but it doesn't contain all the chemicals and doesn't damage the natural nail. Tia was so sweet and explained to me each thing she was doing in the process. She took her time which I truly appreciated, especially so near to closing. I am very particular about manicures and this is one of the best I have ever had! An added bonus is that the salon is in a convenient location in Westlake with easy parking. Will never go anywhere else in Austin!

I am not quite sure what everyone else is raving about but I just moved to this area and had such high expectations for this salon. I got a gel manicure and I loved the color selection. When I was getting my manicure I noticed that the technician was very detailed oriented so I was initially glad I choose this place despite what it looked like on the inside. I felt like this place was dirty and not well kept. When I was led to my station it had a dirty pillow that was like a makeshift back rest. But nonetheless I ignored what I saw due to the yelp reviews. After the manicure, I paid, left and headed to run some errands at the domain. When I got to the domain I noticed that my middle finger had a huge bubble in it and the polish was lifting toward the edge of my nails. When I got home only 3 out of the 10 nails that I had were not lifting at the edges. All the rest of my nails had huge bubbles in them so much so that they popped when I took a shower and now half my gel manicure is gone. I am so disappointed that I trusted the yelp reviews when I should have just driven to my go-to nail place in Kyle. Needless to say unfortunately tomorrow I will be making the 45 minute drive to Kyle to have them redo my gel polish. I am so upset with the quality of this place that I do not even want to go back to have them fix my nails. All trust is lost with this place and I will never be going back.

Took a chance on a new place and was certainly happy I did! Jenna did an incredible job with my nails! I brought in a photo of a set I wanted and what she did with that idea was better than the original! So very pretty! Thanks Jenna!!

After nine days, all of the gel on one of the manicures that was actually completed has come off. All of it. Every finger.

I wanted to try the 'glazed donut' trend, which should have been simple enough... a light pink base with white chrome on top. First of all, there was no nail care involved or included with this $50 (base) dip manicure. When I noticed the nail tech was going straight in with a drill on my hot mess cuticles (I'm a new mom and hadn't gotten my nails done in months) and wasn't going to soak or trim them, I inquired about it and she said she would do my cuticles after she finished my dip nails. I've gotten at least 100 manicures and I've never witnessed this practice, although she acted like it was routine. After she applied, cut and filed the tips, I noticed some were super misshapen and asked her to correct them. She said she would do it after she applied the powder. Not sure why she wouldn't just do it before and I ultimately had to remind her once the powder was on. Some still aren't a good shape; I'll be trying to correct them at home. The photo I showed her had a solid base color on the nails. She just used the light pink she already had on the counter, telling me it was perfect. It was not perfect. It was way too light, you can completely see the white spots on my natural nail underneath and the tips are white, not pink. They basically look like super grown out nails. What might bother me the most, though, is that, since she didn't trim my nail underneath, and because she applied what might as well be clear powder on top of the dip tips, you can see the ends of my square naturals nail through my almond shaped extensions. It does not look good. When it came time for the chrome, she pulled a bag out, opened two seemingly random containers and asked ME which one she should use. How should I know? One was clearly green, so I told, "her probably not that one," and showed her the reference picture again. I asked her if the chrome would cover the imperfections of my natural nails and she said no lol. She chose pink chrome and you can tell it's pink. It's not the more subtle look I showed her or was going for. Also, you have to get up and wash your own hands here during the manicure. And the cuticle care never happened. I guess she thought the drill did enough. No lotion at the end, no hand massage. I was so excited about this self-care experience, my first manicure after having a baby, but every time I look down at my hands I like them less. I really, really wish the base was solid. It's so frustrating. Especially since I paid like $64 + tip for these (the weird pink chrome cost extra). Needless to say, I won't be returning to this nail salon.
