Pizzeria Mozza has been on my Los Angeles pizza bucket list for quite some time. It regularly appears on "best of" lists of pizza in L.A. I live in Santa Clarita, so it's a destination spot for us. Well, we made the trip, and it was worth it. They serve Naples-style pies (though crispy so you can eat the slices with your hands, unlike in Naples where it's mostly a fork and knife situation). There are plenty of vegetarian (and vegan) options, and other non-pizza choices such as pastas, apps, and good-looking wine and cocktails. My family shared three pies: 1) The Margherita...This was fantastic. PLENTY of delicious sauce. 2) The Burrata....This was gorgeous, especially the way the squash blossoms were placed on it like rays...We didn't love the taste so much...the squash blossoms gave a little bit of a weird texture without much flavor addition. 3) The Corn Pizza was FANTASTIC. Everyone loved the unique flavors of this one. It's a seasonal pie, so cross your fingers that it's there when you are....Well worth giving it a try. We had a reservation and were seated immediately when we arrived in a room that looked like a wine cellar. A little more intimate than the main dining room, and the sound was kind of funky...folks at the next table were very loud, and it made it difficult for us to talk to and hear each other at our own table. Not sure if that's the acoustics of this room or the unique loudness of those people, but we probably would have liked it better in the main dining room. Our server was great...we didn't order any drinks or apps and he rolled with that and remained attentive and enthusiastic about our enthusiasm for the food. Another well-deserved Nancy Silverton success. We made reservations and sat at the counter where we could watch the pizza being made right in front of us. The standout for me was the fennel sausage pizza - the crust was incredible and I loved the flavors of fennel, sausage, and the red onions. For dessert, don't skip the butterscotch budino - it's a caramel wonderland in your mouth, and the accompanying cookies are thin and delightful. Service is friendly, but bustling in this small space, with some awkward bumps when you are seated at the counter. Already want to come back and try other pizzas, or their busy takeout! read more

I love the theme of the restaurant, as soon as you step in the bright colors on the walls make you feel like you stepped into an Italian town! First and foremost I'd like to thank the waiter who gave us a breakdown of the menu along with the hostess. They were both so warm and friendly. I was celebrating my boyfriend's birthday, he is a big pizza guy and he was extremely happy with all the food options we ordered. We ordered the meat lovers pizza, the pepperoni pizza, lasagna, Japanese sweet potatoes, and I believe the star of the show for us was the meatballs with the garlic bread. That was the best thing I've had in a while, and it quickly left the table. Sadly this is not the glowing review once was. I've been several times since my original review and each time the food has steadily declined. What was once a staple in our restaurants for a good night out is no longer. On our most recent visit with family from out of town we were massively disappointed and have decided we will not be returning. We started with the squash blossoms which were burnt and left a horrible after taste. The cheesy bread was something that resembled something off the children's menu at chucky cheese. I got the lasagna for my entree and was surprised to see that they changed the way it's presented. Instead a classic layered lasagna which filled the whole tin, we got three small lasagna "rolls." The sizing was an absolute joke, they were so small that it cut the dish in half and still charging the same price for half the food. The chicken Parmesan was burnt and so dry and the edges were curling up. We couldn't eat it as it wasn't even chewable. So disappointing from a place we once loved. I gave it several chances but we'll never recommend this place again. read more

The pizzeria has degraded and it ressembles more of a cafeteria serving pizza. The server was inattentive and you can't blame the crowd as there were a few tables empty. The meatballs were spicier than usual and lacked depth of flavor. I could not discern the subtleties of the original ones and the tomato sauce was not generous. For $21 for 3, ($7 each!!), they could do much better. The fennel pizza that used to be the star of the show was underwhelming: The dough tasted more like oven baked bread and the pieces of fennel sausage were cut thick and lacked in flavor. The meat lover pizza at $29 suffered from the same observations regarding the dough. I sadly think that it was my last visit to Pizzeria Mozza! read more

Delicious pizza of course from the widely regarded best pizzerias in LA. Why is it good? The crust! It's soft and chewy, blistered in spots and crisply charred from a wood-burning oven. The restaurant was crowded as was the valet but yet organized. The hostess did her job well and got various groups seated promptly including my table for 2. Table service was great. Been many times, and never an issue until now. We had planned a family meal before our son leaves for a semester abroad. We showed up 10 minutes early for our reservation, and were seated 25 minutes later. We put in our food and drink order promptly, but waited 45 minutes for our appetizer and a full hour and 15 minutes for our pizzas. We were told that the kitchen was backed up, but neither our server nor the host made any effort to make amends or apologize for the delay in any way. Our server also abandoned us to another server's attention after the entrees arrived, and didn't say a thing to us about it. It was not due to a shift change, as it was only a half hour to close at that point. I suspect he knew that we were dissatisfied, but afraid to actually engage with us. The food was fine, as usual. I don't know!!!! I want to give it more of a 3.5, I'm a bit disappointed. The salad was definitely fresh and had gorgeous, however, it was a bit acidic. To the point of almost being too much. The pizza too, I know I probably should've gotten one of the unique ones but they should also do classic pizza well. It was so wet, I'm not even sure how it'll heat up since it was almost falling apart on arrival. The staff were nice though and my waiter was asking how everything was. The calamari was tasty but a bit too much batter. The lasagna was the least exciting of the night, it was definitely well done, I know they crisp the top a bit but the bottom was burnt and the middle noodles were hard to eat. It had been a while since I'd enjoyed some really good Neapolitan pizza, so when an old friend came into town recently and suggested hat we share some Neapolitan pizza, I made us reservations at Pizzeria Mozza. To work up an appetite, we spent a sunny winter afternoon doing three hours of hiking. By the time we showed up for our reservation at Mozza, we were ready for some outstanding carbs, and that's exactly what we got! Arriving at the door at 5:30pm, we entered and were immediately struck by the wonderful smell of outstanding Neapolitan cuisine, along with the upscale, bustling, warm and friendly vibe of the restaurant. We were seated promptly, and were brought water and breadsticks immediately. To promote the serious study required by the task at hand, I ordered a bottle of beer and caucused with my friend over the menu. After much deliberation, we decided to share the bone marrow al forno and an order of Pane bianco with extra virgin olive oil as appetizers. For our main course, we easily agreed on the "meat lovers" pizza - Bacon, salame, fennel sausage, guanciale, tomato & mozzarella). We then brought our waitress into the huddle, and she suggested that our 2nd pie be the Bianca with fontina, mozzarella, sottecenere & sage with sausage added. When the marrow came, it was served with a small container of melted butter with fresh garlic cloves floating in it. I tasted the marrow, and it was exquisite! My only complaint would be that there didn't seem to be enough of it, but I probably would have said that if it had been a half-pound serving ;-) Looking back, ordering the Pane bianco was over-kill, even for a carboholic like me. It looked like exactly what it was - a couple of big hunks of crusty fresh bread with oil. Despite the eminent threat of carb overload, with some of the melted butter and garlic added, it was exceptional, and we caused it to vanish in short order. Now, let's talk pizza! 1st up, the crust is perhaps the best Neapolitan style I've had in recent memory. It was chewy, not too crisp, not too soft, tangy, tasty, and perfectly cooked both at the edges and in the middle. Next, the sauce is zesty and perfectly seasoned to stand up to the toppings and compliment without over-powering. My friend and I very much enjoyed the meat lover's pizza, but the surprise hit of the evening for both of us was the Bianca. It's combination of cheeses provided a tasty and well-balanced blend of gooey, cheesy goodness; the cheese flavors complimenting the tastes of the sauce, crust, and extra sausage perfectly. When we were done, we looked at the dessert menu, but even with full knowledge of my intent to go for another hike the next day, I couldn't bring myself to contemplate any additional culinary excess at that sitting. More like 3.5. Great for a small party of 2 or 3, but do not recommend for a large group or family style setting. I haven't been here in a while, so I was excited to eat here for the first time in a few years. However, I came with a big group and did not have the best experience. They don't really let you order appetizers & wine first and then order the entrees later. Our server said we needed to place our entire order in at the same time. This was kinda a bummer and made the experience feel rushed and inauthentic. Aside from the pizzas & the sweet potato dish which were great, the rest of the food is mid at best. We got the garlic bread, pasta, fish and salads and nothing really hit. Also, their wine list isn't the best. Think paying $90 for a bottle of Two Buck Chucks from Trader Joe's. It better to bring your own & pay the $50 corkage fee. Overall, it's not bad and it is not great. I do think it is a decent restaurant for a relaxed date night or small group dinner, just not for a group. I won't be rushing back. read more

The staff was cool, seemed a little annoyed that we weren't ordering alcohol and expensive entrees. JAPANESE SWEET POTATOES- crispy prosciutto & scallion crème fraîche best dish I've had all year- not to be missed. $16 MEATBALLS AL FORNO- toasted sesame bread & herb butter- the bread was phenomenal, but this was our least favorite dish of the night $21 TRICOLORE- salad with three lettuces, Parmigiano & anchovy vinaigrette. No notes, perfect! $22 PASTA ALLA VODKA- lumache, burrata & Sicilian oregano- good, would we order it again? Unlikely. $30 What sets pizzeria mozza apart? Beautiful restaurant. There's the open kitchen where you can see all the cooking taking place. They offer counter seating so you can have the up and close reviewing of the kitchen in action. I thought this would be a great place for a date night with my wife before a show. We arrived at 6:25 (show was at 8 and close) and was immediately seated and order taken - a salad and a pizza. Then 45 minutes later not one bit of food. When I asked the waiter politely about the order he said he thought the salad would be out in another 5. 10 minutes later still nothing. We had to leave with having no food. The waiter just made an excuse (we had a couple of parties and got slammed) along with a smile and an apology- no I'll get you food to go, no sorry I hope you'll try us again, no come back on the house. I'm a huge fan of Nancy Silverton and watch her all the time on the Food Network, so I was really excited to finally try this place--and I'm so glad I did. The food was absolutely outstanding. I was a little surprised they didn't have a Caesar salad on the menu (I wish they did!), but we ordered the tricolore salad instead and it was fantastic--fresh, crisp, and perfectly dressed with just the right touch of anchovy flavor. Now, the garlic bread... wow. It's unreal. Perfectly toasted with crisp edges and a soft, buttery center. The butter and garlic are baked right in, and honestly, I could eat it all day. We also got the calamari (it's only on the dinner menu) and it was excellent--lightly breaded, perfectly cooked, and paired with an amazing sauce. The meatballs were just as good--flavorful, juicy, and served with three pieces of that incredible garlic bread. Easily one of my favorite appetizers here. And the pizza? Hands down, the best I've ever had. We tried the pepperoni, mushroom, and margherita pizzas, and every one was incredible. The crust is light and airy with a subtle garlic note, and the toppings are perfectly balanced. I've been back several times now and it never disappoints. The restaurant had typical romantic/warm lighting like you would see in a date-night LA Italian place, but also had this really cool library type room that me and my group sat in. We got the squash blossoms, Bianca (white pizza) and the Napoletana pizza which did have a very good crust, which I think they're known for. I'll head right to the main point. You go here for the atmosphere, the energy, and the vibe. Not for the pizza. The pizza is just OK. You can easily find much better pizza for about half the cost. I had the Meat Lover's Pizza. $29. I'm guessing it's the size of a medium pizza, maybe 10", cut into four slices. They are not generous with the meat, and the crust takes up about ¼ of the pizza's real estate. It was an OK pizza, nothing memorable, and I'd say they were less than generous with the toppings. We split a dinner salad. Nice greens. No complaints. For dessert, we split a crumble. Very good. Nice homemade style and the flavor of the fruit really stood out. Nice work on that one. , The place is packed. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. We ate in the outdoor section. I was glad. Inside was pretty noisy. The service was excellent, and so was all the staff we encountered. It was $100 for the pizza, one salad, one serving of wine, and the dessert plus tip. You pay for the hype. Like I said earlier, it's very easy to find better pizza for less money, but it's definitely a happening place. They have valet parking but you can also park on Highland pretty easily. If you do, please be super careful getting out of your car because cars will be wizzing by just a couple of feet from your car. I won't be back, but I'm glad I had the experience. read more

This is a classic Italian style pizza place located in West Hollywood. The restaurant is quite popular and uses a valet, there seems to be a line for the valet quite frequently. The restaurant really is furnished quite nicely and is pleasant inside. We sat at the bar and the bartender gave us great service. For our meal, we did a chopped salad, which was really great. My buddy and I also shared a margarita and Napolitana pizza. The salad was my favorite part of dinner. It was plentiful and had a lot of good ingredients. THE QUINTESSENTIAL LA EATERY SUFFERS BADLY WITH TIME Went last night and I have to say, after coming here for years and taking every visitor to LA here, the quality of food and service has declined to the point that I felt the need to write this updated review. Pizzeria Mozza is iconic. Created with love, it really showed what good minds, ingredients, and service could deliver. It radiated California. Whether you sat at a table, at the bar, or in the back, it was always great. Last night, I found that the menu has declined. They have taken off items that were staples. Prosciutto and fruit--a classic--and the Margherita pizza with prosciutto are gone. Even asking for simple modifications, we were met with, "Sorry--can't do that." The vodka pasta has gone stale. The wedge salad was literally inedible; it was so much of the lettuce core and so bitter. I should have just sent it back ASAP. The food gems: the Japanese potato is a new treat. I have to say, it was a meal highlight. The Tin Roof Sundae was also a standout. Pizzas are still the best part of this menu; the fennel pizza was a good one. Service--well, there is sometimes no rhyme or reason to it. You might see your server at your table, then working the bar, then they disappear. You are left stranded asking the busboys to take orders or other waiters to pack up your extras. There is no consistency. The host staff was nice, though. All the seats were filled with people, all socializing and having a great time. There wasn't a table that had no people in it. The crust was good, just not thin or chewy crisp enough for my taste. Nothing bad, nothing memorable either. Rating 3.5/5 Butterscotch Budino $17 Caramel sauce, crème fraîche, Maldon sea salt. This was the standout. Rich, balanced, and maybe worth that price tag. Easily the best thing we ate. Rating 5/5 OVERALL We were seated about 15 to 20 minutes after our reservation time, not a dealbreaker, but worth noting. The food is decent, but when the dessert outshines the pizza at a famous pizzeria, that's a problem. I'm glad I experienced it, but I don't feel the need to go back. Unfortunately, the meal fell short of what we'd anticipated. It was extremely underwhelming. The pizzas we ordered (margharita and meat lovers) were mid at best. The dough and undercarriage were solid: thin, authentic, and with good char. However, the sauce, cheese, and toppings were lacking. Not exactly sure what it was, but the flavors were just... bland -- no flavor. Our pasta dish (pasta alla vodka) was super inconsistent. Some parts were soft, while some others were burnt/overcooked. Vodka sauce didn't taste like vodka sauce at all. More like cheap tomato sauce with a touch of cream. Our favorite part of this dinner was undoubtedly the Japanese sweet potato! It was perfectly cooked, refreshing, and an amazing combination of flavors we hadn't tried before. Do yourself a favor and order this! Not a dealbreaker, but I do have to include this. Beer selection was lacking. How do you not have Peroni or Moretti as an Italian restaurant? As far as the vibe goes, it is very lively with a tight seating arrangement. Expect loud music and loud chatter from folks as a result. We had a few slices of pizza and some pasta leftover, but we had zero interest in taking them home.... When you're spending around $100 per person at a sister restaurant to a Michelin-star, expectations run high for quality and consistency across the board. Regrettably, this visit didn't meet them. Celebrated a friend's birthday at Pizzeria Mozza! The ambiance is perfect--dim lighting, wood accents, and an open kitchen create a lively yet intimate atmosphere. They have a fantastic bar and an amazing wine selection. Started our meal with the Squash Blossom which was light and flavorful with creamy ricotta also got their Caprese salad. The Funghi Misti pizza was delicious, topped with wild mushrooms, fontina, and taleggio on a perfectly blistered crust. To finish, we had the Mozza Sundae, which was the perfect sweet ending. Came here with a reservation for 6 people on a Monday at 5:30 pm, but we had 2 extra friends who wanted to join. While the hosts were kind enough to let 2 more people join us, we had to split into 2 tables. They didn't give us 2 tables next to each other, which was disappointing since we saw 2 available. I wanted to try this place since my friend said it was her favorite pizza! The meat lovers pizza was really good- you can tell by the crust. The squash blossom pizza was soo pretty- but my friends didn't like that the burrata on top of it was cold. My favorite dish here was the chopped salad- it had so much flavor and was so fresh, would definitely order this again. Least favorite was the pasta alla vodka- the pasta noodles were overcooked. The one thing we didn't like was how the dishes were coursed out. We didn't get the pizzas until after we finished the entire chopped salad, and the pasta came after we were finished with the pizzas. AMAZING pizza but $$$ We stopped here after going to Universal Studios and just ordered 2 pizzas. No appetizers, drinks, or desserts but it ended up being $74 for 2 pizzas after taxes and tip... that's $37 each! They're 12" (personal size) and we had no leftovers, so the price is a bit steep. We have a pizza oven at home and most restaurant pizzas don't live up to the hype, but the crust here is PERFECT and the topping ratio is spot on! Long time fan, but haven't been in a quite a while. Celebrated a birthday on July 18. Very disappointed in the squash blossoms. They were over fried and lacked flavor other than tasting fried. Also disappointed in the chicken parmigiana which was also over fried and lacked flavor. Stuffed shells were completely dried out and the shells were hard to cut through. However, the pepperoni pizza and the house made gelato were delish. Valet parking was a disaster-took over 45 minutes to get our car. They were not transparent with the true issue- keys were misplaced! IF we go back, I think sticking to the basics- pizza, wine, dessert may be the way to go. LA restaurants continue to disappoint lately. Sad. read more
