I'm so glad I finally got to drop by here. I don't know why it took me ages to visit seeing how much of a Nancy fan I've been. Also, I've driven by this place SO many times and each time I literally give myself a mental reminder that I do in fact need to visit. It was my friend's birthday. I had just finished work. on a Monday. She wanted to get her cards read, so we did. It was dinner time by the time we finished. She called in to confirm if we could get a table and thankfully we were able to secure one while we were headed over. We found street parking right outside. Talk about a win! They were unfortunately not partaking in the dineLA event so we got a few dishes share. I started with their orange wine that I forgot to take a photo of. It tasted like kombucha in the best way. We shared the following: Japanese sweet potatoes Caprese Margherita pizza Pasta alla vodka Everything was so good. I was doing the dramatic pause after every bite to give appreciation to the food. They dropped off the potato first. I could have eaten that whole thing. Next up was the caprese which by the way perfectly complimented the potato. I topped that potato with a piece of that burrata and went to food heaven. There was an abundance of basil on top of that pizza and I was here for all of it. Every bite had a piece of basil. What a time! I was full by the time the pasta came so I only managed to get a couple bites. We ended with the chocolate cake. So decadent and rich. What a lovely way to start the week. I feel like having had this meal on a Monday really set off the tone for the rest of my week. I certainly ate well this week. While I didn't get his name, our server was super nice. Extremely disappointing -- especially given the recommendation I honestly don't understand the hype surrounding Pizzeria Mozza. This restaurant was highly recommended to us by some really good friends, which made the experience even more disappointing. The food was, quite frankly, atrocious. The squash blossoms arrived heavily saturated in oil, to the point where they were unpleasant to eat. The meatballs were difficult to describe--they simply did not live up to what we expected. The meat lovers' pizza was soggy and lacked the quality and execution we were expecting from a restaurant with this reputation. To make matters worse, the service was scarce. We were left waiting and had difficulty getting the attention we needed throughout the meal. Maybe we caught them on a particularly bad night, but based on our experience, Pizzeria Mozza was nowhere near the level we expected. When a restaurant comes so highly recommended by people whose opinions you trust, expectations are naturally higher--and unfortunately, this experience fell far short. Heartbreaking decline of a once-beloved L.A. restaurant. Much to my enormous disappointment, I revisited one of my favorite Los Angeles restaurants last night, expecting to find the wonderful place I had once loved so much that I was often willing to wait in line to get in. Instead, I was greeted by an extremely glum staff and an almost completely empty restaurant. Little did I know how disappointing the evening was about to become. My party ordered several dishes: two pizzas, Nancy's eponymous panzanella, meatballs, and fried squash blossoms. Each and every dish was disappointing. The squash blossoms were particularly awful--tasting as though they had been incinerated in a batch of dirty motor oil. I was especially excited to try Nancy's interpretation of the classic Italian bread salad, panzanella. Instead of the delightful fried bread cubes I was expecting, it arrived on what tasted like a burnt slab of month-old bread. The oil in the dressing seemed stale, while the bread was buried beneath a mountain of bitter onions, red peppers, and other unappealing greens. The pizzas and meatballs were equally underwhelming. Even the staff seemed defeated. The waiters appeared to have developed an intense case of Stockholm syndrome, moving through the nearly empty dining room with little enthusiasm or warmth. I cannot tell you how foolish I felt for having recommended this restaurant to friends in the past. As an Italian American, I know what these classic dishes are supposed to taste like. I was hoping to find inventive interpretations of familiar recipes. Instead, we were served food that was, in several cases, virtually inedible, accompanied by a remarkably surly and dispirited staff. It is genuinely sad to see a restaurant that I once loved decline this dramatically. I will never patronize this place again. My suggestion to Nancy: come back to Los Angeles and spend some time paying attention to the restaurant--and to the people running it--before devoting so much attention to documentaries for YouTube. What happened to Pizzeria Mozza? Years ago, this was one of those LA restaurants I would confidently rave about. I brought out-of-town guests this time and actually bragged beforehand about how great it was. By the end of dinner, I was embarrassed I had chosen it. The stuffed squash blossoms were awful, completely overwhelmed by a heavy, greasy fried taste, as though they'd been dropped into a vat of bad olive oil. There were no actual squash blossoms in sight!!! It was basically deep fried cheese , very deep fried. The pizza wasn't much better. The sauce had an oddly sweet, almost ketchup-like taste. Ketchup is not what I expect when ordering pizza at Mozza. Just as disappointing was the service. The staff seemed noticeably unhappy and disengaged, not one person bothered to ask how our meal was. Perhaps they already knew the answer. For a restaurant with this reputation and history, the entire experience felt tired and mediocre. Mozza was genuinely great years ago. Sadly, it has gone very far downhill. I'm saddened to even have to write this type of review, especially because I've been a huge fan of Nancy Silverton going all the way back to her Campanile days. I know how great her restaurants can be. I sincerely hope Nancy gets to read this and hustles back over to Pizzeria Mozza to restore it to the crowning glory it once was. Pizzeria Mozza has been on my Los Angeles pizza bucket list for quite some time. It regularly appears on "best of" lists of pizza in L.A. I live in Santa Clarita, so it's a destination spot for us. Well, we made the trip, and it was worth it. They serve Naples-style pies (though crispy so you can eat the slices with your hands, unlike in Naples where it's mostly a fork and knife situation). There are plenty of vegetarian (and vegan) options, and other non-pizza choices such as pastas, apps, and good-looking wine and cocktails. My family shared three pies: 1) The Margherita...This was fantastic. PLENTY of delicious sauce. 2) The Burrata....This was gorgeous, especially the way the squash blossoms were placed on it like rays...We didn't love the taste so much...the squash blossoms gave a little bit of a weird texture without much flavor addition. 3) The Corn Pizza was FANTASTIC. Everyone loved the unique flavors of this one. It's a seasonal pie, so cross your fingers that it's there when you are....Well worth giving it a try. We had a reservation and were seated immediately when we arrived in a room that looked like a wine cellar. A little more intimate than the main dining room, and the sound was kind of funky...folks at the next table were very loud, and it made it difficult for us to talk to and hear each other at our own table. Not sure if that's the acoustics of this room or the unique loudness of those people, but we probably would have liked it better in the main dining room. Our server was great...we didn't order any drinks or apps and he rolled with that and remained attentive and enthusiastic about our enthusiasm for the food. Another well-deserved Nancy Silverton success. We made reservations and sat at the counter where we could watch the pizza being made right in front of us. The standout for me was the fennel sausage pizza - the crust was incredible and I loved the flavors of fennel, sausage, and the red onions. For dessert, don't skip the butterscotch budino - it's a caramel wonderland in your mouth, and the accompanying cookies are thin and delightful. Service is friendly, but bustling in this small space, with some awkward bumps when you are seated at the counter. Already want to come back and try other pizzas, or their busy takeout! read more

I love the theme of the restaurant, as soon as you step in the bright colors on the walls make you feel like you stepped into an Italian town! First and foremost I'd like to thank the waiter who gave us a breakdown of the menu along with the hostess. They were both so warm and friendly. I was celebrating my boyfriend's birthday, he is a big pizza guy and he was extremely happy with all the food options we ordered. We ordered the meat lovers pizza, the pepperoni pizza, lasagna, Japanese sweet potatoes, and I believe the star of the show for us was the meatballs with the garlic bread. That was the best thing I've had in a while, and it quickly left the table. Sadly this is not the glowing review once was. I've been several times since my original review and each time the food has steadily declined. What was once a staple in our restaurants for a good night out is no longer. On our most recent visit with family from out of town we were massively disappointed and have decided we will not be returning. We started with the squash blossoms which were burnt and left a horrible after taste. The cheesy bread was something that resembled something off the children's menu at chucky cheese. I got the lasagna for my entree and was surprised to see that they changed the way it's presented. Instead a classic layered lasagna which filled the whole tin, we got three small lasagna "rolls." The sizing was an absolute joke, they were so small that it cut the dish in half and still charging the same price for half the food. The chicken Parmesan was burnt and so dry and the edges were curling up. We couldn't eat it as it wasn't even chewable. So disappointing from a place we once loved. The pizzeria has degraded and it ressembles more of a cafeteria serving pizza. The server was inattentive and you can't blame the crowd as there were a few tables empty. The meatballs were spicier than usual and lacked depth of flavor. I could not discern the subtleties of the original ones and the tomato sauce was not generous. For $21 for 3, ($7 each!!), they could do much better. The fennel pizza that used to be the star of the show was underwhelming: The dough tasted more like oven baked bread and the pieces of fennel sausage were cut thick and lacked in flavor. Delicious pizza of course from the widely regarded best pizzerias in LA. Why is it good? The crust! It's soft and chewy, blistered in spots and crisply charred from a wood-burning oven. The restaurant was crowded as was the valet but yet organized. The hostess did her job well and got various groups seated promptly including my table for 2. Table service was great. It had been a while since I'd enjoyed some really good Neapolitan pizza, so when an old friend came into town recently and suggested hat we share some Neapolitan pizza, I made us reservations at Pizzeria Mozza. To work up an appetite, we spent a sunny winter afternoon doing three hours of hiking. By the time we showed up for our reservation at Mozza, we were ready for some outstanding carbs, and that's exactly what we got! Arriving at the door at 5:30pm, we entered and were immediately struck by the wonderful smell of outstanding Neapolitan cuisine, along with the upscale, bustling, warm and friendly vibe of the restaurant. We were seated promptly, and were brought water and breadsticks immediately. To promote the serious study required by the task at hand, I ordered a bottle of beer and caucused with my friend over the menu. After much deliberation, we decided to share the bone marrow al forno and an order of Pane bianco with extra virgin olive oil as appetizers. For our main course, we easily agreed on the "meat lovers" pizza - Bacon, salame, fennel sausage, guanciale, tomato & mozzarella). We then brought our waitress into the huddle, and she suggested that our 2nd pie be the Bianca with fontina, mozzarella, sottecenere & sage with sausage added. When the marrow came, it was served with a small container of melted butter with fresh garlic cloves floating in it. I tasted the marrow, and it was exquisite! My only complaint would be that there didn't seem to be enough of it, but I probably would have said that if it had been a half-pound serving ;-) Looking back, ordering the Pane bianco was over-kill, even for a carboholic like me. It looked like exactly what it was - a couple of big hunks of crusty fresh bread with oil. Despite the eminent threat of carb overload, with some of the melted butter and garlic added, it was exceptional, and we caused it to vanish in short order. Now, let's talk pizza! 1st up, the crust is perhaps the best Neapolitan style I've had in recent memory. It was chewy, not too crisp, not too soft, tangy, tasty, and perfectly cooked both at the edges and in the middle. Next, the sauce is zesty and perfectly seasoned to stand up to the toppings and compliment without over-powering. My friend and I very much enjoyed the meat lover's pizza, but the surprise hit of the evening for both of us was the Bianca. It's combination of cheeses provided a tasty and well-balanced blend of gooey, cheesy goodness; the cheese flavors complimenting the tastes of the sauce, crust, and extra sausage perfectly. When we were done, we looked at the dessert menu, but even with full knowledge of my intent to go for another hike the next day, I couldn't bring myself to contemplate any additional culinary excess at that sitting. I don't know!!!! I want to give it more of a 3.5, I'm a bit disappointed. The salad was definitely fresh and had gorgeous, however, it was a bit acidic. To the point of almost being too much. The pizza too, I know I probably should've gotten one of the unique ones but they should also do classic pizza well. It was so wet, I'm not even sure how it'll heat up since it was almost falling apart on arrival. The staff were nice though and my waiter was asking how everything was. The calamari was tasty but a bit too much batter. The lasagna was the least exciting of the night, it was definitely well done, I know they crisp the top a bit but the bottom was burnt and the middle noodles were hard to eat. I'm a huge fan of Nancy Silverton and watch her all the time on the Food Network, so I was really excited to finally try this place--and I'm so glad I did. The food was absolutely outstanding. I was a little surprised they didn't have a Caesar salad on the menu (I wish they did!), but we ordered the tricolore salad instead and it was fantastic--fresh, crisp, and perfectly dressed with just the right touch of anchovy flavor. Now, the garlic bread... wow. It's unreal. Perfectly toasted with crisp edges and a soft, buttery center. The butter and garlic are baked right in, and honestly, I could eat it all day. We also got the calamari (it's only on the dinner menu) and it was excellent--lightly breaded, perfectly cooked, and paired with an amazing sauce. The meatballs were just as good--flavorful, juicy, and served with three pieces of that incredible garlic bread. Easily one of my favorite appetizers here. And the pizza? Hands down, the best I've ever had. We tried the pepperoni, mushroom, and margherita pizzas, and every one was incredible. The crust is light and airy with a subtle garlic note, and the toppings are perfectly balanced. I've been back several times now and it never disappoints. The restaurant had typical romantic/warm lighting like you would see in a date-night LA Italian place, but also had this really cool library type room that me and my group sat in. We got the squash blossoms, Bianca (white pizza) and the Napoletana pizza which did have a very good crust, which I think they're known for. The squash blossoms were nice and filled with a ricotta cheese which was tasty. I'll head right to the main point. You go here for the atmosphere, the energy, and the vibe. Not for the pizza. The pizza is just OK. You can easily find much better pizza for about half the cost. I had the Meat Lover's Pizza. $29. I'm guessing it's the size of a medium pizza, maybe 10", cut into four slices. They are not generous with the meat, and the crust takes up about ¼ of the pizza's real estate. It was an OK pizza, nothing memorable, and I'd say they were less than generous with the toppings. We split a dinner salad. Nice greens. No complaints. For dessert, we split a crumble. Very good. Nice homemade style and the flavor of the fruit really stood out. Nice work on that one. , The place is packed. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. We ate in the outdoor section. I was glad. Inside was pretty noisy. The service was excellent, and so was all the staff we encountered. It was $100 for the pizza, one salad, one serving of wine, and the dessert plus tip. You pay for the hype. Like I said earlier, it's very easy to find better pizza for less money, but it's definitely a happening place. They have valet parking but you can also park on Highland pretty easily. If you do, please be super careful getting out of your car because cars will be wizzing by just a couple of feet from your car. I won't be back, but I'm glad I had the experience. read more

This is a classic Italian style pizza place located in West Hollywood. The restaurant is quite popular and uses a valet, there seems to be a line for the valet quite frequently. The restaurant really is furnished quite nicely and is pleasant inside. We sat at the bar and the bartender gave us great service. For our meal, we did a chopped salad, which was really great. My buddy and I also shared a margarita and Napolitana pizza. The salad was my favorite part of dinner. It was plentiful and had a lot of good ingredients. I came on a warm Summer day to have hot pizza. Upon entering we were greeted by waitstaff and then taken to our table by the window. All the seats were filled with people, all socializing and having a great time. There wasn't a table that had no people in it. Pizzeria Mozza has been on my list forever, so I finally locked in a reservation and checked it off. PARKING Valet is the easy route. If you skip it, expect to hunt. We ended up walking a few blocks after finding street parking. AMBIANCE We were seated in the wine cellar, darker, quieter, and more intimate. One of the best areas of the restaurant. Very Italian, very moody. FOOD Nancy's Chopped Salad $24 Iceberg, radicchio, red onion, caciocavallo, salami, pepperoncini, cherry tomatoes, ceci, oregano vinaigrette. Fine, but forgettable. Slightly soggy and nowhere near worth the price. Rating 3/5 Margherita $24 Mozzarella di bufala, tomato, basil. Solid pizza, but that's it. The crust was good, just not thin or chewy crisp enough for my taste. Nothing bad, nothing memorable either. Rating 3.5/5 Butterscotch Budino $17 Caramel sauce, crème fraîche, Maldon sea salt. This was the standout. Rich, balanced, and maybe worth that price tag. Easily the best thing we ate. Rating 5/5 OVERALL We were seated about 15 to 20 minutes after our reservation time, not a dealbreaker, but worth noting. The food is decent, but when the dessert outshines the pizza at a famous pizzeria, that's a problem. I'm glad I experienced it, but I don't feel the need to go back. THE QUINTESSENTIAL LA EATERY SUFFERS BADLY WITH TIME Went last night and I have to say, after coming here for years and taking every visitor to LA here, the quality of food and service has declined to the point that I felt the need to write this updated review. Pizzeria Mozza is iconic. Created with love, it really showed what good minds, ingredients, and service could deliver. It radiated California. Whether you sat at a table, at the bar, or in the back, it was always great. Last night, I found that the menu has declined. They have taken off items that were staples. Prosciutto and fruit--a classic--and the Margherita pizza with prosciutto are gone. Even asking for simple modifications, we were met with, "Sorry--can't do that." The vodka pasta has gone stale. The wedge salad was literally inedible; it was so much of the lettuce core and so bitter. I should have just sent it back ASAP. The food gems: the Japanese potato is a new treat. I have to say, it was a meal highlight. The Tin Roof Sundae was also a standout. Pizzas are still the best part of this menu; the fennel pizza was a good one. Service--well, there is sometimes no rhyme or reason to it. You might see your server at your table, then working the bar, then they disappear. You are left stranded asking the busboys to take orders or other waiters to pack up your extras. There is no consistency. The host staff was nice, though. First time here and wow I was so impressed. Immediately walking in to check in I noticed the location was small but so cute and intimate. We were seated in their outdoor section by the alley and loved the lights and scooter set up. Disappointed the Japanese sweet potatoes were out but that just means I'll have to come back next time. Very disappointing experience. We clearly explained that we are Muslim and do not eat meat, yet we were still served meat. What made it worse was the restaurant's response afterward, which felt dismissive rather than genuinely accountable. We gave management an opportunity to make this right privately, but unfortunately the resolution offered did not reflect the seriousness of what happened. I would not return. read more

Even though I wasn't even hungry, having spent much of the afternoon eating one thing after another, I was excited to check out Pizzeria Mozza. We were seated at the bar, which afforded us a view of the chefs doing their thing. It was pretty cool. We shared the Squash Blossom Fritti ("ricotta, Parmigiano Reggiano & lemon") and the Fennel Sausage pizza ("panna, mozzarella, red onion & scallions"), and they were both excellent. I was worried the pizza might be dominated by the taste of fennel, but it actually worked really well and was complemented perfectly by the other components. If I'm ever in the Los Angeles area again, I'll definitely be returning to Pizzeria Mozza. And this time I'll bring my appetite with me. read more

Pizzeria Mozza specializes in Neopolitan style pizza, but with a unique touch of having an extraordinarily thin crispy crust. Ambience is classy upscale Italian American, but since it's LA you don't have to dress up too fancy. Service was mostly friendly, oddly the hostess said we only had 75 minutes until she needed our 4 top table for an upcoming reservation...but by the time we were done eating 60 minutes later, the restaurant was 80% empty. I've never worked in a restaurant, so who knows. I ordered a club soda...the waiter brought back a small bottle of fever tree and a glass of ice. $5, yikes! $25 Fungi Misti(Mushroom) Pizza...a cheesy blend of fontina, taleggio, & Parmigiano, and of course a generous spread of roasted mushrooms perfectly carmelized. The thin Neopolitan crust somehow magically supports all that goodness with barely a fold, tasty! $24 Nancy's Chopped Salad...a massive mountain of fresh iceberg lettuce, radicchio, red onion, provolone, salami, pepperoncini, cherry tomatoes, ceci, dried oregano & oregano vinaigrette. A couple of years ago, my wife and I dined at Osteria Mozza and were left very satisfied! Elegant atmosphere, attentive service, insane wine selection, and excellent food that earned its Michelin star. With those high expectations in mind, we recently tried Pizzeria Mozza next door, hoping for a similar standout experience focused on pizza. Unfortunately, the meal fell short of what we'd anticipated. It was extremely underwhelming. The pizzas we ordered (margharita and meat lovers) were mid at best. The dough and undercarriage were solid: thin, authentic, and with good char. However, the sauce, cheese, and toppings were lacking. Not exactly sure what it was, but the flavors were just... bland -- no flavor. Our pasta dish (pasta alla vodka) was super inconsistent. Some parts were soft, while some others were burnt/overcooked. Vodka sauce didn't taste like vodka sauce at all. More like cheap tomato sauce with a touch of cream. Our favorite part of this dinner was undoubtedly the Japanese sweet potato! It was perfectly cooked, refreshing, and an amazing combination of flavors we hadn't tried before. Do yourself a favor and order this! Not a dealbreaker, but I do have to include this. Beer selection was lacking. How do you not have Peroni or Moretti as an Italian restaurant? As far as the vibe goes, it is very lively with a tight seating arrangement. Expect loud music and loud chatter from folks as a result. We had a few slices of pizza and some pasta leftover, but we had zero interest in taking them home.... When you're spending around $100 per person at a sister restaurant to a Michelin-star, expectations run high for quality and consistency across the board. Regrettably, this visit didn't meet them.
